Review: A new Lone album from Matt Cutler represents an about turn away from the more mellow tones found on 2014's Reality Testing back in favour for the rave tropes that characterised his output circa Pineapple Crush. The nine tracks on Levitate are rife with the energetic fervour of hardcore and jungle, blending peppy tempos and nimble drum licks with the trademark graceful melodies one would expect from a Lone record. You should be familiar with "Backtail Was Heavy," already been premiered via a phone line service and "Vapour Trail" which formally announced Levitate and the other seven cuts from Lone show Cutler is at the top of his game.

Aura
Astral Travel
Review: He's back! It's been a while since Bungle last graced our turntables; his 2011 album Memories to be precise. But he's returned. And he's done so with a double-sided disc of pure D&Beauty. "Aura" is an emotion soaked stepper laced with all the grace of an early 90s ambient record but beefed up with Autonomic standards. Already being pimped as an 'impossible to top' tune of the year by some of the biggest names in the game, it's unarguably essential. "Astral Travel" is equally stunning. Rolling with a heavier rhythm but dosed with the same amount of star gazing whimsy, it's another faultless moment from the Brazilian DJ. Welcome back Bungle.

The Greatest Thing (Criminal Minds mix) (5:43)
All You Wanted (6:33)
Review: Most commonly known as Quivver, some of John Graham's earliest endeavours in the studio were that of a jungle nature. Largely regarded as ahead of his time - bucking the Bukem-esque 'intelligent' sound by a good few years - you can hear all soul-tingling progressive signatures that we've since heard as a member of Tilt, Quivver and Space Manoeuvres but over brackish, busted breaks. The eighth instalment of Skanna revisitations and remix here we find "The Greatest Thing" enjoying a subtle rework by Criminal Minds and the cosmic roller "All You Wanted" in all its untouched 94 glory. Both guarantee light and weight to any contemporary jungle/drum & bass set.

White Flag VIP (4:32)
Arcadia (feat Metrik) (3:09)
Review: Switching a lighter raising ballad with the energy and gusto of a sugar-high kid at Christmas, Delta Heavy's "White Flag VIP" has been anticipated since Andy C started teasing it around his Alexandra Palace show. Already loaded with feels, the new double time drums add even more emotion and euphoria. Flip for an out-and-out electrical fire as they team up with Metrik for a balls-out, peak time slap session. Excruciatingly good.

Ghost Racoon (5:16)
Review: Barely half a year has passed since their long-awaited second album Timeline and Glen and Zula return with four more alluring constructs: "Stand Firm" flexes into the darker side with deft navigation from Visionobi while "Ghost Racoon" goes all-out darkside with its pneumatic hammers and tongs. For deeper experiences head for the sub-rattled "Reunion" and the sublime "Shrine". With its swooning chords and rich orchestration it's near-classical in its dynamism and weight. It's not the title track for nothing... Shrine on you crazy junglists.

Random Movement - "Sleazy Bitch" (Ivy Lab remix) (6:08)
Malaky - "Falling" (Villem remix) (5:47)
Review: Featuring some of the biggest names in the game and their own label, the Hateful Eighty project from Fokuz contains some of the finest cuts the Dutch label has ever released (which is saying something). Here are just two of them; Ivy Lab's switch up on "Sleazy Bitch" is a work of wonder. Not only does it remind us of the halftime act's D&B roots but its amen work is the stuff of studio legend. Villem's remix of "Malaky" is equally on-point as all the dreamiest elements are brought to the fore over Villy's signature concrete drums. On point.

Lopez - "Beyond Fear" (8:26)
Syuss & Reality - "Missing Link" (6:28)
Review: Fans of Hessle Audio's weekly show on Rinse should be familiar with Cambridge, Massachusetts-based label 8205, with founder Pete DevNull making a recent standout guest appearance - do seek out the podcast!! To the uninitiated, 8205 is DevNull's outlet for putting his encyclopaedic knowledge of '90s era jungle and hardcore to good use with irregular vinyl and digital reissues of previously unheard productions. Paydirt is most certainly hit upon for this third 8205 transmission with a '97 era jungle cut from Lopez backed up by a collaboration between Syuss and Reality. Up top, "Beyond Fear" bristles with the sort of atmosphere that was rife in jungle at the time and its no surprise it was a secret weapon for the likes of Bukem and Subject 13. Only ever aired in abridged form on a Japanese import mix CD by Subject 13, 8205 score the full release of this deep cut some 19 years on. On the flip, Syuss and Reality's 1995 track "Missing Link" is stripped back jungle that hits you square in the gut with how futuristic it still sounds some two decades on.

Provider (5:19)
Request Line (5:17)
Review: It's a cracking month to be a Spirit fan. As well as his release on Commercial Suicide comes this uncompromising doublet on one of the most authentic jungle imprints in operation right now. "Provider" is all about the drums edits that slap, chop, smash and smack differently on every beat. The subs and eerie riser play a role in the energy but you'll barely notice them such is the strength of the rhythm. "Request Line" is cut from the same heavily detailed cloth with so much attention placed on the breaks you need two or three listens to really catch the bass variations and reggae elements. True to the craft.

Review: Shogun knows how to throw a party... Their "100" celebrations started in March and they're still going strong three months later! A chance for the label's artists and friends to stretch their skills and signatures, there's been some really exciting, subversion work throughout the series. This final piece in the puzzle is no exception; Fourward deliver their funkiest track to date, Karma gets all soulful, Total Science get all drifty and ethereal while Break simply reminds us why we love him. All four cuts glistening with long-lasting gold, Shogun can carry on celebrating their 100th release for as long as they like as far as we're concerned.

Review: Wilkinson gets his sample flex on with a big horn-coated seasonal roller. Joined by Wretch 32, the balance of early 2000s liquid soul is kept in check with his well-paced, spacious narration. As with previous Wilkinson heaters, this has potential to soundtrack the summer for many. For a deeper twist flip for Nu:Logic's twist where we're whisked away on a future-focused slink-out and an extended halftime drop provides ace space for Wretch's yarn. Expertly played.

Mindgames VIP (6:04)
Review: A piquant side-dish to the epic feast that is his debut album Dispositions, Emperor delivers two delicious VIPs that aren't on every format of the LP. "Control VIP" subverts the bassline while our emphasis is still fully squared on the mechanical snare slaps. "Mindgames VIP", meanwhile, is just mental incarnate. An absolute molten lava belter of a track, the levels of distortion on this are just unreal. Obscene.

Bad Flow (4:12)
Review: From the makers of "Gambino" comes "Bambino". A true roller coaster of a track with all its twists and turns, it's every bit as electrifying and densely textured as you'd expect from one of Ram's most heavyweight duos. For something a little on the leftside flip for the tripped out triplet rhythm with its downpitched vocals and strange synth flurries. The two sides of DC Breaks showcased in true style; it's yet another straight-to-dancefloor classic.

Review: Already spotted on Rupture LDN this month, Spirit comes back with a second helping on Klute's ever-dependable Commercial Suicide. Taking the deeper route than his last EP, each cut on this three-tracker rolls out with real widescreen, pad-heavy system majesty. "Consciousness" is all about the hook, "From Creation" is all about the heavy atmospheres while "Without You" rolls out with a mid/late 90s Headz texture. Serious business here, no time wasters please.

Review: Brazil's reputation for forward-thinking drum & bass has developed ever since Bryan Gee imported Marky and Patife almost 20 years ago. Now serving up its third generation of talent, Hospital's close ties with the country garner some of the best dancefloor tracks Brazil has given us to date: Highlights include Urbandawn showing off a much more dramatic string to his bow on "Messiah Complex", S.P.Y continuing to strip things back to bare-bone basics on the super-dark "Hidden Fire" and Nitri subverting jump-up with a classic nod to the squelchy signature set by Moving Fusion all those years ago. And that's only half the EP. File under essential.

Review: Fokuz's "Hateful Eighty" project continues to deliver with another superlative slice of liquid fizz: Macca & Loz is a powerful vocal swinger that tips a huge nod at the legacy and influence of Break. Silence Groove's "Kinky Questions" retains the early 2000s soul sparkle but with more of a sultry edge thanks to the deft use of a classic E-Smooth acapella sample. Review: Whichever substyle he explores - from gritty, unabashed tech to melodic bliss - Nymfo has made versatility his signature. One of the few D&B artists who can appear on Renegade, Dispatch and Spearhead consecutively, his screen is one of the widest in the game. Case in point: this EP. From dreamy cloud-chowing ("Everyday Emotions", "Melting Pot") to Shogun-style MC-laced techy rollers ("Cheetah") by way of synth-led space-steppers ("Big Air"), Nymfo's repped a broad and highly accomplished spectrum once again. Review: Nolige is power: heritage heavyweight SB81 takes us back to the source with three ravishingly rusty breakbeat slammers. "90s" captures the hardcore trajectory into jungle perfectly with its wall-of-sound style drums and menacing basses beneath. "Memories Of You" whisks us a little further down the decade when Alex Reece reminded us of the sunshine. Finally "Pache" provides a whiplash dash back to 91 with embittered hoover stabs, more broad-shouldered breaks and iced out atmospherics. Nostalgia is power.

Review: Damon Kirkham long proved his status as a man of many genre-blurring aliases and projects before he added the Kid Drama moniker to his discography. Three years on and it's proved a worthy creative outlet for the Convex Industries man, and the Covering Ground EP finds him back on Exit, the label that debuted the Kid Drama sound. Ranging from the deep dark pneumatic rolls of "Red Magic" to the somnambulant soft-focus steps and alluring chord chang of "Luv" by way of the autonomic skips of "Wasted Time" Kid wears his heart(drive) on his sleeve throughout. The Shot Off (5:00)
How Do You Feel (4:39)
Review: Utopia bossman Mako lives up to his label's name again with three heavenly slabs of contemporary drum & bass on Warm Comms. "For Love Or Money" is lush gradual builder than assumes a deep status until suddenly throwing us to the drum wolves mid-point. "The Shot Off" takes us down a much darker path from the off; crunched out basses that seem to live in a space of their own and drums so crisp you could cut bricks, it's pure alien funk of the most futuristic order. Finally we land softly back to earth with the deep dubby rolls of "How Do You Feel?" There's no questioning how you'll feel after this.

Review: Cooking up a storm since 2009: for Ingredients' 50th feast they've recruited a collection of chefs old and new. Spirit cooks the starters. A life-long friend of the label since its earliest releases, his "Interstate" tickles the tastebuds with a pan-fried reese and peppered snare shots. Response and his brother Pilskin cook up a hearty main; detuned synths served on a bed of crushed drums and an old school reduction and a light spraying of jungle foam. Finally the bossman Clive teams up with Response for a bitter sweet desert with burnt crumb bass gloom and devilled drum roll pastries. Sonically scrumptious.

"Heart Of Gold" shimmers and sparkles with the help of Roisin Brophy who laces the sonic swoons with her soft-focus touch. "More Than Ever" is a deeper jaunt with cheeky flautist flurries and mild guitar twangs buried deep in the textures. Blend (Dorylus remix) (6:05)
Blend (Capracara remix) (5:00)
Review: Frankfurt's Lennard Poschmann aka Orson Wells sure does get around a lot. A regular at local institution Robert Johnson as well as Berlin nights such at Ohm and Griessmuhle playing his dusty and rusty tributes to classic Detroit and Chicago sounds. But he's also been quite open about his love of drum and bass of late and the Blend EP is his exploration of his love for this style. The track's early 90's jungle style even has the rough and overdriven sound quality of an old dubplate that could have been played during Fabio & Grooverider's famed night at heaven circa 1993. There's two remixes: Dorylus' one takes the track into retrovert deep house territory which is really nice and groovy while Capracara's rendition is housey and retro too, but with more stomp and gutsier, but the way the track changes in pitch is absolutely mental and sure to be a crowd pleaser.

"Enchanter" sees serial tag-teamer and one-time gabber DJ Nymfo join Dabs for a spiked out funk jam where a ricochet hook plays ping-pong deftly from side to side over a skittery groove that wouldn't go amiss in a Kasra set. Review: From the label: Jakarta based Jonathan Kusuma delivers a new EP on Cocktail d'Amore Music. After his European debut on Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliche, followed by a successful EP on Berlin's imprint Love On The Rocks, the Indonesian artist keeps carrying the vessel of the Far East sound. The title track Black Magic is a fat disco-tribal inspired groove that builds fast, eventually climaxing with a cloud of acid synths and mystical vocals. Japanese duo Mascaras, Chida and Cos/Mes' 5ive, straighten up the groove giving a 4/4 beats restyling. The result is a Proto-Techno, Trance influenced soundscape, for foggy late-night dancefloors. Urban Sorcery is an Italo inspired maze of proto-acid synthesizers, sounding like an enchanted concrete-covered forest. 90's house inspired Redvox is an experiment of cosmic influences. As the vocal becomes part of the groove, the long pads fuel this spaceship pushing it to the borders of time and space.
