Review: Parisian label My Love Is Underground team up with fellow French operation Favourite Records to step into the compilation game with this crucial triple vinyl release put together by Jeremy Underground Paris. Since the label's emergence back in 2010, My Love Is Underground have been at the forefront of championing 90s house music with the supreme knowledge and digging skills of Jeremy Underground Paris leading to a raft of killer reissues as well as music from contemporary producers who tap into this classicist sound. As the title suggests, My Love Is Underground: 12 House Tracks Selected By Jeremy Underground Paris contains a bounty of rare, forgotten and unknown house gems, with Aaron Arce's Jhelisa sampling "Pressure" setting the tone for what to expect. Look out for the wonderfully crunchy "Euro-Disney (part 1 & 2)" from DJ Nature's old Natureboy alias.

A Novel Gesture
We Come In Peace
Akiara
Review: Always committed to bringing interesting rhythms to bear on the world of house and techno, Aybee is back on his home turf with a fresh salvo of off-kilter drums and otherworldly synth tones that further his quest into pastures new for time-honoured dance music. "A Novel Gesture" rumbles with gritty kicks and stalking dub techno chords, and yet still manages to sound nimble on its feet. "We Come In Peace" is more purposefully floaty, swirling as it does around a central pad that takes on a three dimensional shape through some clever sound design, with just a gentle house beat underneath to keep it moving. "Akiara" is a devout bliss-out track not least in its delayed and filtered pulses pitched perfectly for heavy-lidded transcendence.

Review: ** REPRESS ** Wild Oats come through with the double plated goodness, as the oft-hinted label debut of Jay Daniel arrives in the shape of the Karmatic Equations EP. A resident at Detroit party Fundamentals alongside Kyle Hall, Jay Daniel has been a hot tip ever since he made his 12" debut last year in illustrious fashion with the rugged Scorpio Rising EP for Theo's Sound Signature label. Since then, Daniel has become an increasingly regular presence on the European club circuit - recently making his debut at Panorama Bar - lauded by FACT and dropped a guest mix on Benji B. So you could say there was a sense of expectation surrounding young Jay's next release. The five track Karmatic Equations is likely to be as popular as that SS release, further refining Daniel's rugged approach with C Side cut "Change 4 Me" and the bumping final track "4 Red" likely to be the cuts most selectors pull for again and again. Housed in a full colour reverse board record sleeve and full colour centre labels, Daniel's EP for Wild Oats precedes the promised launch of his own Watusi High label later this year.

Steve O'Sullivan vs Kashawar - "Take A Seat"
Titonton Duvante - "Such Good Taste"
Eric Cloutier - "Balsamaceous"
Review: "Mosaic Split Series kickstarts 2014 with three solid tracks of silky deepness that build upon the Mosaic sound of old whilst remaining firmly in the present.

A: Steve O'Sullivan vs Kashawar "Take a Seat"

Label boss, Steve O'Sullivan , follows up his recent Sushitech releases with this collaboration with young German producer Kashawar who has been gaining fans over the last year with his solidly atmospheric and funky EPs on Autoreply and Project London Records.

Raw, slow old school house beats is the order of the day here with a sprinkling of melodic nu school deep techno touches that help to make this track perfect for both the warm up or after party.

Just listen to the vocal sample if you have any doubts ... "Relax baby...Mr Big will take care of you in a minute."

B1: Titonton Duvante "Such Good Taste"

Despite an impressive back catalogue , including releases on Metamorphic, 7th City and Planet E , US techno veteran Titonton remains one of techno's best kept secrets and to say we are happy to welcome him to Mosaic is a massive understatement.

Fusing the melodic edge of classical Detroit Techno with the jacking dancefloor intensity of Chicago, Titonton's "Such Good Taste," is a welcome addition to the Mosaic catalogue. ....the combination of kick drum and bassline alone are a thing of beauty... there is no way your ass won't move to this beast!

B2: Eric Cloutier " Balsamaceous"

Eric has made a name of himself over the last few years on the DJ circuit with sets that have been described as sprawling in depth and sophistication, fusing the brooding intensity of tripping techno with the mechanic funk of contemporary house. Thankfully for Mosaic his productions do the same!

"Balsamaceous" is Eric's second release and showcases perfectly his unique take on the Detroit/Berlin Techno schooling he has obviously had: a deeply emotional yet hip wiggling take on the techno/house hybrid.

This is one that will get the more discerning dancefloors shaking this year. Pure class is an understatement!

Review: "Hardmoon London is a new independent platform solely focused to release music by the analog militants who are struggling against the loudness war of digital industry and want to spread the love of that warm, distorted sound exclusively through vinyl or special tapes. The tracks we are going to release are recorded directly on tape without ""the help"" of computers, so that interference, mistakes, and noise are all going to be apart of what's pressed straight onto the 180 grams of throttling hammers grinding away. It's all enclosed within in a special printed sleeve!
The first release comes by way of courtesy from the mysterious Hissman who captures, with his name, the vey essense of the tape's sound: Hissssss... that's the sound you hear when a tape starts rolling.

Review: It's been a swift rise for Lars Dales & Maarten Smeets, the Amsterdam-based pair known as Detroit Swindle, since they first appeared together across a clutch of 12"s in 2012. Though Detroit Swindle have graced Tsuba, Heist, Freerange and Murmur over this period, it's Dirt Crew Recordings they are most closely associated with so it makes perfect sense for Dales and Smeets to issue their debut LP on the German label. Boxed Out features some ten tracks deep across two slabs of white vinyl (attn Detroit Swindle fans: CD and Digital editions offer a further three cuts) and features guest spots from Mayer Hawthorne and Sandra Amarie. The horizontal beatdown of "You, Me, Here, Now" and Quantic sampling "Thoughts Of She" are highlights

Lost In My Brain Fog (extended outro mix)
A Variation On A Theme
Lost In My Brain Fog (Medicated mix)
Review: Cottam is proud to present the first release on his new label, Ruff Draft. Paul Cottam came to wider attention with a series of limited edition blank-label 12s released from 2009 onwards, showcasing his production talents by re-working afro-beat, neo-soul, funk & hip-hop into deep house burners, but Ruff Draft is all about original tracks, and the first release sees three tracks from the man himself. 'Lost In My Brain Fog' comes in two versions, the super deep original is an ethereal trip of shimmering strings and delayed percussion, but with a kicking distorted thump at the bottom end to still work the floor - a real trip. The Medicated Mix has a mystery vocalist mixing with dub techno chords and jacking percussion for a late night trip to the back room of a dark warehouse. The EP is completed with 'A Variation on a Theme', a gem of a deep house groover with beautiful chords and acid that creeps up and sidles its way behind and around you before pinching your wallet and necking your drink. The first release on Ruff Draft sets a high standard, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and cut loud. Keep a look out for further transmissions in the near future, from Cottam and other artists as they keep it deep and keep it Ruff.

Chillin In The Booth
Review: First hinted at on Galcher Lustwerk's Beats In Space appearance a few months ago, the breakthrough producer's Nu Day EP on Tsuba arrives with quite some expectation, especially given the sellout White Material 12" from last year was his last full release. Thankfully, it more than lives up to that fabled record, with four sumptuous deep house tracks with all of Lustwerk's trademark vocal charm. Opening track "Fate" is a heady instrumental reminiscent of the transitions in his mythical 100% Galcher mix, while "Nu Day 2" is a more driving combination of thickly filtered synth chords and crisp drum machine rhythms. The flip sees two classic Galcher vocal excusions, with "Nu Day 2" and "Chillin' In The Booth" filled with just as much charm as we'd expect from the man. This is vinyl only - don't sleep!

Review: Yes, here we go, another lovely reissue of this utter Mood II Swing classic from the 90's! Last time we saw this it was on a considerably grubbier bootleg and featuring only the two mixes of "Move Me"- which are obviously the bees-knees in house music and probably as pioneering as the Chicago generation before them (that bassline on the original mix is simply irresistible!) - while this time you also get "Call Me" and "Function", two dusty-as-hell floor swipers that'll get anybody swinging from side to side with the right mood...

Stevie B - "Get So Blue"

Doug Gomez - "Ohh Baby"
Stevie B - "When I See You"
Review: 124 Recordings return in 2014 with 'The Link-Up' EP-four tracks split between London producer Stevie B and NYC's Doug Gomez, both delivering their own interpretation of house music recalling the heady days of the 90s without relying on the same tired and over used formulas.First up is Stevie B,fresh from his collaboration with Victor Simonelli, and with releases on Matt Jam Lamont's Solo Music and long-time UK House stalwart Jeremy Sylvester's Urban Dubz.Opening track 'Get So Blue' reaffirms the less is more belief, with skipping drums and hats holding up soulful keys and vox, underpinned with a warm bassline and pads.Next up is Brooklyn resident Doug Gomez.Formerly of the Drrtyhaze duo with releases on Tirk and Gomma,he has also released on King Street Sounds and Ultra Nate's 411 Paradox Underground.Taking things back to his roots 'Phoenix Rising' is a blissful track full of delicate and colourful melodies, while the solid kick drums toughen things up.He open's up the second side with 'Ohh Baby',a straight-up underground house jam-with crisp drums and high treble clicks leading into a heavy bassline and a female vocal hook that really stay's in the listener's head.Last but by no means least Stevie B closes things with his New Jersey influenced track 'When I See You',where warm rhodes and strings make for a perfect late-night vibe.

John Heckle - "Emerald 66"
Malcolm Moore - "Way Of The City"
Review: AMR's 27th release features a barnstormer of a track by the legendary John Heckle (of Mathematics Recordings, Tabernacle Records, and M>O>S Recordings) that is sure to light up clubs everywhere. Its big, fat, analog bassline combined with take-charge leads and rising melodies is a floor-filler. "Emerald 66" is six minutes of dancing bliss with its in-your-face snares, claps, and tambourines. Malcolm Moore works the flip side with "Way Of The City", an affair that starts out muted but quickly expands into a drum-filled frenzy. A break in the action gives dancers a moment to catch their breath before the acid onslaught continues in earnest in the second half.

Back But Half (Lauer remix)
Botle Of Mine (Jay Shepheard remix)
LA Melody (Session Victim remix)
Weekend Lover (Luvless remix)
Review: After successfully releasing the debut of EGYPTIAN NIPPLES (duo act formed by Massimiliano Pagliara and Jules Etienne) with the 5 track EP "BACK BUT HALF" Apersonal Music now reveals the remix pack for the mini-album, commissioning 4 experienced producers seeking to maintain the high quality and old school vibe of the original tracks. It was not easy to keep the high standard set by the beautiful tunes produced by Massi and Jules, but you can be sure that names such as Lauer, Jay Shepheard, Session Victim and Luvless did their homework in the best fashion possible. German producer Lauer (who is no new name in the playground with a bunch of great singles, a highly acclaimed album and lots of remixes on labels as Running Back and Permanent Vacation) selected BACK BUT HALF to remix. Maintaining the old school US vibe of the original track, house music is the name of the game here, and at its best! Jay Shepheard, usual producer on Apersonal, gave a clubby dancefloor twist to the electro gem of BOTTLE OF MINE. It will be hard not to stand up when they drop this one on the dancefloor. Session Victim (Retreat / Delusions Of Grandeur) wisely understood the coastal vibe of the original EP (and album cover) by remixing L.A. MELODY towards a Caribbean taste with a Berlin vibe. Last but not least, Luvless (Rose Records / Razor N Tape) took WEEKEND LOVER and transformed it into a dreamy sound blaster for that special moment in your DJ set. Someone said after party?

Jimini & Molly New - "On The Road (Sometimes)" (Flyypost Goosebump vox)
Jimini - "Hopeness"
Jimini - "Little World"
Jimini - "Wishes"
Review: A welcome return to Blind Jack's Journey for Lille's foremost exponent of deep house lusciousness Jimini, with the Frenchman having helped inaugurated the label's Dream House series back in 2012. Though he's only previously issued one full single, the digital only 2013 Dance Flight Therapy EP on Lo-Deep Recordings, Jimini is clearly suited to the format; here he treats ears to a quartet of productions that commences on a palpably sensuous note with "On The Road", a track whose emotive impact is magnified by the fragile vocal contribution of Molly Knew. The lightly break beat flavoured "Hopeness" draws from a similar sound palette, with some incandescent synths taking the show stealing place of any vocals, whilst the B Side houses two cuts that the DJs will find very useful indeed, in particular the deep grooves of "Wishes". Another fine drop from Blind Jack's Journey.

Requiem
Review: Having previously appeared largely on Lero and Cosmic Blue, Japan's Takuya Matsumoto is the latest artist to be snapped up by R&S new globally-minded Meda Fury imprint. It's a lush, starry-eyed kind of house music that Matsumoto delivers, from the sassy keys and uptempo strut of "Ram" to the energetic Detroit-isms of "Camouflaged Letter" with its neatly arranged polyrhythmic synth lines. "NY NY" is a more laid back affair as the beat simmers down to a delicate tick and live bass and piano play out in a smoky style perfect for lazy Sundays. "Requiem" too keeps the B side in a pleasant reverie, opting for more romantic ivory tinkling over a crisp minimal beat.

Fuelled by Jay and Andy's unquenchable thirst for new music, Futurists is, in their words, "a chance to shine the spotlight on some really creative new school producers who are making music for all the right reasons - they're doing things their own way and they're doing it with passion and soul". Sidney Charles sets the tone with the bass heavy groove of "Vibe", whilst this release also sees the newly formed duo REbEL & Twon shine with "Itchy Fingaz". Long term Moda affiliate Dudley Strangeways has previously impressed with releases on Klasse, Holic Trax and Albion Records and does so once more with the robust UK House stylings of "Call Girl". Be sure to check "Hats And Nuts" from Lrusse & Bleecker, the recently formed alias of Behling & Simpson which caps off this fine collection!

Review: Spreading their reach with a various artists release for their fifth bout, the Hizou Deep Rooted crew have a clear vision of the kind of heavy-lidded, keys-rich house music they want to push. James Duncan is in fine form with the hooky looping and sturdy groove of "Untitled #2", while G Marcell lets the Rhodes lead the way in the light and airy funk of "Peace Awaited". On the flip Gari Romalis brings a rougher kind of sound that leans heavy on the dusty drums to create an intense, slow burning atmosphere, leaving it to Satore to finish off with some killer keys played in a subtle style that makes "Tribute To The Roots" an unmissable gem on the end of the record.

Together
Review: The Hot Creations family extends to Venezuela with the addition of Caracas-based production duo Sergio Munoz and Israel Sunshine aka Fur Coat. With a clutch of Crosstown Rebels releases to their name, including that collaboration with former All Sainter Mel Blatt, Fur Coat are a suitably glamourous addition to the Foss and Jones helmed operation, and bring an element of darkness to the table that add some contrast to the fun loving house that's been on Hot Creations lately. Lead track "There's No Time" is all about the complement of deep growling basslines, powerful electronic keys and dramatic builds, whilst the track is taken into more explicitly acid territory on the accompanying Warehouse mix from Hot Creations favourite WAFF. "Together" meanwhile could feasibly be a Kompakt Speicher B Side.
