Bodycode - "A New Species"
Nina Kraviz - "Zlobnii Mikrob"
Review: The third Naif release surfaces with a track a piece from two of label boss Efdemin's favourite producers. Spectral Sound mainstay Bodycode burrows deep into your psyche with the worming sounds that unfurl on "A New Species". Beginning as some sort of slightly uneasy deep jack, the track accrues several layers of throbbing energy as it progresses to strangely hypnotic effect. Nina Kraviz is no strangers to Efdemin's label having featured on last year's inaugural release and the Russian presides over the B Side with "Zlobnii Mikrob". On its own, the track which sees Kraviz's whispered vocals slip out over a relentless minimal bump and liquid melody is pleasant enough, but sits in the colossal shadow of the A Side.

Too Slow (Radio Slave Panorama Garage mix)
Review: Matt Radio Slave Edwards has been in fine form in 2010, releasing everything from club friendly Strictly Rhythm edits to ambient headphone music under his Machine pseudonym. Here we see the Berlin based DJ turn Simon Baker's "Too Slow" into a chugging, raw house anthem, with razor sharp hi-hats bouncing keeping the groove tight until some outrageously deep pads enter the fray. Edwards keeps the fire burning throughout, thanks to the deft use of vocal snatches and moody atmospherics. Limited vinyl only run of 300, so once it's gone, it's gone. One for the sleazy Sunday parties.

Sequence 1
Small Moments (nb. mislabelled as "Sequence 1" (Mount Kimbie mix) on label)
Sequence 1 (Scuba remix)
Review: Mike Monday and Will Saul remix Scuba: Scuba remixes Mike Monday and Will Saul. Sounds fair right? Well that's what these diplomatic chaps have done, with Saul and Monday's Sequence 1 EP following a Scuba 12" which dropped last week. The title track sees Saul and Monday strip things back to a Roland 909, Korg Kaos Pad, and Dave Smith Polyevolver. In the true traditions of house music, they recorded their mix live, with Mike on the 909 and keys and Will on filters and effects. "Small Moments" swaps raw analogue jack for a melodic keys and shuffling percussion, offering a nice contrast. Flip over for Scuba's remix, which treads the line between house, dubstep and techno in the way that only Paul Rose can.

Axel Boman - "Modern Fluids"
Pedrodollar - "Ner I Brunnen"
Kornel Kovacs - "Baby Step"
Gino Bomino - "For Sharon"
Review: New imprint Studio Barnhus makes its bow with this rather stush 12" entitled Good Children Make Bad Grown Ups. The label was formed by Axel Boman, Petter Nordkvist and Kornel Kovacs, and it's Axel who offers the first track here, "Modern Fluids", a fine follow up to his recent EP for DJ Koze's Pampa imprint. This shares with A Side with Pedrodollar's insouciant "Ner I Brunnen", before Kovacs' "Baby Step" opens things up on the flip with on a chunky deep house tip. But it's the jazzy keys and Detroit atmospherics on B-Side cut "For Sharon" by the wonderfully named Gino Bomino that wins the Juno award for EP highlight, which comes replete with vocal loops and junkyard percussion that would make KDJ proud.

Lay In A Shimmer
Sonnensturm
Ursonate 3
Lay In A Shimmer (Fata Morgana version)
Review: With so many glorious electronic albums released this year, this 12" acts as a timely reminder to the qualities of Black Noise, the exceptional third album from Pantha Du Prince. An abundance of rich melodic chimes was the album's signature sound with "Lay In A Shimmer" personifying it most. Two previously unreleased tracks are also included, with "Sonnesturm" marrying the chime out with crisp hi-hat syncopation over rough atmospheric tones. On the flip "Ursonate" throbs with a menace more suited to the dark warehouse spaces, the sleek acid bass taking full grip of your senses once it arises through a reverberant, chime led minimalist groove. The Fata Morgana version of "Lay In A Shimmer" closes this release by adding some depth and warmth to the bass frequencies with soothing results.

Beats In Space (original mix)
Beats In Space (Scumdolly remix)
Review: London based producer Jozif drops his third release for 2010, following stellar 12"s on Wolf + Lamb and Fear Of Flying. "Beats In Space" is probably not an ode to Tim Sweeney's radio program (sorry Tim), although we can't be 100 per cent sure. Whatever the reference, the music speaks for itself; a killer low slung bassline dominates the whole thing, supported by intricate percussion and wonderfully unhinged, creaking door samples. Fabric resident and all round interesting character Craig Richards (under the Scumdolly moniker) offers an unsurprisingly leftfield interpretation on the flip, with almost all of the instrumentation sacrificed in favour of some piano, an ambient fuzz, crackling atmospherics and a spoken word vocal. Limited to 300 vinyl copies.
