Never Stray From the Path
Spooky Kind Of Love
Review: Vincent Koreman's decision to focus productions under the DRVG CLTVRE banner has paid dividends for the multi-faceted Dutch producer; last year's Everything Oblivion LP for his Snug Life label has been complemented by some fine turns on Viewlexx, Gooiland, Pinkman and now Porn Wax. The 10" shaped little brother of Tusk Wax has proved pleasantly hard to pin down since it launched and this pink slab of Koreman naughtiness adds to the label's sense of diversity. Lead track "Never Stray From The Path" chugs along with industrial force, powered by grotty Tilburg force whilst "Spooky Kind Of Love" allows Koreman to show off his talent for codeine addled 303 manipulations over a gurgling beat.

Like A Machine (Stretched Erotic dub)
Like A Machine (Andrew Weatherall mix)
System Seven Hundred
Review: It's been a while since Andrew 'Chicken Lips' Meecham has had his old Emperor Machine running, but it's still purring with cosmic style. "Like A Machine" struts and squiggles the perfect soundtrack to a robot fashion parade. With layers of dubbed out instruments weaved over a rich analogue stomp, it's an instant hypno-groove. Andrew Weatherall's remix really needs little description; stripped back, angular and acidic, it's the Asphodeller at his starkest and darkest. "System Seven Hundred" ends on a slow, rich note as pokey synth strikes play echo location against each other before a mischievous bassline slinks in and steals the show.

Swarm
Hard Work
Review: Absent since serving up a VIP issue of Off The Traxx earlier this year, Mensah dons his New York Transit Authority alias for some more crowd pleasing bass-house cross pollinations on Redlight's Lobster Boy label. Lead track "Swarm" should be familiar to most; it's been a digital dubplate weapon in the New York Transit Authority armoury for some time now, first surfacing online in his F/\CT mix last year! Rolling 808 pressure and throwback hoover raves combine with repeated "NYTA" vocal chants for an exercise in relentless dancefloor fodder. On the flip "Hard Work" sees NYTA doing edit heavy 90s house with plenty of chord stabs and drum fills.

Review: Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker adopts the rarely used alias The Reflektor for this finely judged debut on Wild Oats. The Los Angeles based artist is most commonly know for his work as Gifted & Blessed, and anyone familiar with that music will certainly need little additional information to investigate the Las Ruinas Mayas 12". Purportedly recorded as "a tribute to one of the many Mayan spiritual sites known to date", musically these influences manifest themselves with considered subtlety, allowing Reyes-Whittaker to showcase his undoubted mastery of soulful electro and primitive house music. The extra layers of sonic dust make it all the more appropriate for Kyle Hall's label.

Conduit (Volsoc Orange Problem remix)
Hashtag (Radioactive Man mix)
Review: Earlier this year saw the phoenix-like relaunch of Billy Nasty's iconic Electrix Records label after six years of dormancy with the superbly monikered Clave To The Rhythm EP from Radio Nasty setting the standard for what to expect. Back 2 Basics co-founder Carl A Finlow is a fine choice to continue the label's second ascent, and marks his return to Electrix having released the Format Years 12" a decade ago. The Boot Loop EP is the sort of tough, tech infused electro you want from an Electrix release, "Conduit" sits just the right side of Breaks, whilst "Hashtag" sounds like a disorientated Gesloten Circkel. Killer remixes too from Radioactive Man and Volsoc, the pair of Jean-Paul Bondy and Justin Maxwell who apparently got back in the studio especially for this release.

Versalife - "Ionization"
Review: James T. Cotton, Gosub and Versalife all feature on the third and penultimate instalment of Cultivated Electronics' World Electronix series. Established last summer, the series allowed the London based Cultivated Electronics the chance to champion contemporary electro from an international cast, with The Exaltics, prolific Finnish producers Morphology and Abstract Forms label chief Deixis included on the previous two volumes. This 12" is by far the most high profile however, with Nation alumnus James T Cotton turning in a tough analogue dreamer "In Transit" under the recently shorn down JTC banner, continuing the form shown on full EPs for Killekill, Hoya Hoya and newcomers Ansatz this year. Alongside this are contributions from Boris Bunnik's Versalife project, the Miami-based Shad T. Scott aka Gosub, and a collaboration between CE label head Sync 24 and Dublin based electro producer DeFeKT.

Review: Also known as CN and 030303, Norwegian noisemaker EOD lays out a bountiful breakbeat spread that celebrates electronica's most formative phases without ever coming across as overly nostalgic or sentimental. Highlights include the early Orbital/Black Strobisms of "Track 2", the Inner City-style synth evangelism of "Track 5" and the thumping, psychedelic deep-space hypno bass belches of "Track 7". Elec Pt1 - "This Is Not A Test"
Review: Whilst there's some justification to the criticism that acid house is one dimensional in the hands of most producers, there are still certain labels and artists who prove ingenuity is still possible to achieve when relying on the humble Roland 303. Andreas Tilliander's TM404 LP for Kontra earlier this year is an obvious example, whilst Absurd's Acid Test series has also provided a platform for Tin Man, Dozzy and Pepe Bradock to introduce some new ideas into the field. Dutch label 030303 has been pioneering this approach for some time and return here with a sequel to the compilation with which they launched in 2009. This second installment showcases artists both well-known artists and obscure, with the likes of DMX Krew, Lunar Disko regular Automatic Tasty, Jared Wilson and Dutch veterans Dexter and Drvg Cvltvre joined by Cosmic Force, Jonny 3 Snares and the amusingly monikered Roy Of The Ravers. The latter's "Acid Hors D'oeuvre" is one of many lysergic highlights on this double LP offering.

Review: Not a month has passed since his stunning album Bizarro World and Dutch electro champion Overdose returns with a handsome set of five new productions. Tip-toeing the line between Nordic disco, classic electro and good old fashioned house music, variety abounds while the quality, as always, remains consistent. Highlights include the uptempo swing and jazz chords of "141 Gates" the Faltermeyer style Outrun breeziness of "Nibiru" and the more menacing, loopy electro of "Sandokan". Review: Bizarro World marks the long overdue debut album of veteran Dutch producer DJ Overdose and finds a natural home on Creme Organisation through their Creme Eclipse sub-label. DJ Overdose is just one of numerous musical projects of Den Haag born Jeroen Warmenhoven, who has also released music as Model Man and as part of The Novamen and The Hasbeens. Collectively his music has appeared on the great and the good of Dutch techno labels - Bunker, Murder Capital, Legowelt's dormant Strange Life, Viewlexx and Clone - as well as like minded operations such as Lunar Disko and WT Records. With almost two decades of productions behind him, Warmenhoven belatedly adds Creme to his discography with a debut full length under the DJ Overdose name, described by the label as "a veritable tour de resistance in film noir electronics" which blends "melancholy and ennui with fear and voyeuristic tiger-lurking-in-the-bushes paranoia".

Stevie Wunderbah
Devil Fishing
Review: With veteran DJ Billy Nasty relaunching Tortured last month with a 12" from the Radionasty moniker he produces under with Radioactive Man, he does the same again with Tortured's ostensibly more experimental sister label Electrix. The title track sees the duo go on more of an electro tip than previous productions, with an 808 led sound that references Miami bass as much as it does Drexciya. On the flip, "Stevie Wunderbah" combines the same stiff electro framework to furious acid workout, while "Devil Fishing" pairs ultra stripped back minimal rhythms with simmering analogue lines.

Review: Born from Record Store Day demand, King of the edit Greg Wilson continues to keep it real (to reel) with this very cheeky collection of classic electro joints. Schooling Eddy Grant with a series of body pops and caterpillars, funking up Egyptian Lover's classic "My House On The Nile" and adding a loose riddim twist to the Extra T's, this is one of the most exciting releases he's dished up since "Credit To The Edit".

Review: Reckless Ron Cook belatedly gets his chance to shine courtesy of Big Strick's 7 Days Entertainment label on this Lost Tapes 12" that presents four cuts from the producer's archives. The former Submerge and Metroplex artist is no stranger to 7 Days Entertainment having signalled his return from the wilderness with "Night Moves" a rattling, electrofied contribution to last year's Resivior Dogs LP from Big Strick. That track should set the tone for what you can expect on this 12" which snaps viciously into action with the viper like Detroit machine funk of "Electro Soul" and the pace doesn't relent from there until "Urban Beat" reaches the run out groove.

Review: Ed Upton's prolific nature across his numerous aliases has really been shown in devastating fashion this year. Having already issued album length releases on Power Vacuum and Rush Hour Distribution's No 'Label,' Upton adds Abstract Forms to his impressive collection of labels with a jam packed release that sits snugly in the interzone between EP and LP. Eight tracks deep, Micro Life is filled with the quirky electro Upton has made his own under the DMX Krew banner, adopting a modernist approach to a classic sound. From the opening track "Undesirable Element" there is a sense of melody and innate funk that few others currently engaged in flying the electro flag can match. The contrast between "Hexadecimal" and "Knights Of The Eastern Calculus" alone offer a telling example of Upton's range.

Cruisin' Down 7 Mile (Oktored remix)
Review: A veteran of the Detroit electro scene, DJ Nasty has been a regular fixture on Databass Records and Motor City Electro Company in his time. Guess Who's Back sees something rather special, with three tracks originally produced between 2008-2009, and meant to be released on the late Aaron Carl's Wallshaker Records. Although Carl's passing delayed their release, they have a new home on Yo Sucka, and sound as ferocious as you'd expect from the producer. "Cruisin' Down The 8 Mile" combines Detroit futurism with breakneck electro rhythms, "Black From The Waist Down" provides a truly roof raising production, with sleek strings and urgent melodies rushing through tumbling percussion, and "Aphrodisiac" fuses funk bass and jazzy textures at a furious pace. Oktored's remix of "Cruisin' Down The 8 Mile" meanwhile offers something suitably deep to balance the original's more frenetic tendencies. Highly recommended!

Review: As you'd expect from Planet 43, "Radiant Flux" is all about undiluted, pristine electro and a showcase of the genre's potential thereof. The creative spread is evident from the very first two tracks as "Radiant Flux" goes for the jugular with sharp-toothed breakbeats and layers of sub-zero synths while "Cold Operator" is about 20BPM slower and fuelled by total melodic emotion. The emotion and mournfulness is taken to a whole new level on "Tellarium Snow" while "Cogs Are Turning" completes the set on an early 90s Orbital style 4/4 note. Beautiful.

Review: Sitting somewhere between the galaxy-sized ambient washes of ASC and the gritty, snub-nosed acid angularity of Hardfloor, Robert Witschakowski's Exaltics project represents everything that's great about the furtive creative pastures found between techno and electro. Ranging from the slinky deep space breakbeat adventures of 'Neun' to the lo-fi acid techno stomp session that is "Elf" via the dreamy, oceanic percussive "Zehn" and the full-throttle body-slammer "Acht", this highly-varied, yet solidly consistent package show Robert at his most accomplished and extensive. Review: Formed out of the Glasgow club night of the near same name, Wrong Island Communications launches in wonderful fashion with this eponymously titled record from M O O N. The awkward to type on a keyboard M O O N is the artist name of 18 year old Bostonian Stephen Gilarde who counts as his uncle the grizzly head of all things DFA Mr James Murphy! Having self released this four track EP digitally last year, Wrong Island subsequently licensed the material to launch their label as well as snaring two further EPs from Gilarde that are due for release over the next twelve months. Recorded on some brand new second hand material gifted to him by the Juan Maclean, Gilarde's compositional talent is obvious from the Syclops in anti gravity mode stylings of opening track "Paris". The deranged punk funk of "Hydrogen" is as good as anything his uncle signed to DFA in their pomp. Limited to 100 copies, this debut Wrong Island transmission is made all the more special by a picture sleeve designed by Madison McKenna and an A4 insert detailing the label's future plans.

Review: The fifth EP in Carsten Nicolai and Olaf Bender's Diamond Version series sees the duo continue their hard-edged series of techno abstractions. "The Future of Memory" opens with relentless broken beats and subsonic blips, while stripped to just a few elements, while "Operate At Your Optimum" sees lumbering drums pile up against one another as great blasts of fuzzy noise collide with depth charged bass licks. If there are any doubts that EP 5 twitches and crackles with an unpredictability and rawness, then check "Sense & Simplicity" or "Make Believe". Both feature a humming sound that could be coming from a live mic left lying on a studio floor while glitchy percussive slivers and bursts of noise crawl like diseased rodents over the duo's jittery, pared back drums and electronic rhythms.
