Review: There are many things about this debut album from exiled Sheffielder 96 Back that are, frankly, remarkable. For starters, it's utterly brilliant and sounds like the work of an artist with years in the game under his belt, rather than a 19-year-old who is still making his way in the scene. As you'd expect, it's rooted in electro, with the Bristol-based youngster flitting between dashing alien funk ("Matryoshka"), freestyle-influenced cheeriness ("Excited, Boy"), weighty, Drexciya style rollers ("Ghzel Tea"), sub-heavy sleaze ("Digi Trigger"), early Aphex Twin-meets-DMX Krew melodiousness ("Vennsate") and rush-inducing workouts that are giddier than your average toddler after a few too many shots of neat orange squash.

Clear (3:38)
Alleys Of Your Mind (3:33)
Review: Anyone who takes their electronic music history seriously should already be hip to this one, but a brief rundown for those new to the roots of electro and techno. Cybotron were the project from Richard Davis and Juan Atkins, who went on to help forge the sound of Detroit techno as Model 500. Released in 1983, their debut album "Enter" was a blueprint for so much music that came after, with "Clear" being the standout track that send 80s heads spinning into a state of funky future shock. This tasty little 7" reissue puts "Clear" on the A side, and 1981 sci-fi boogie belter "Alleys Of Your Mind" on the flip. Two evergreen gems no machine music aficionado should be without.

Digital Warlock (4:29)
Review: Following their recent reissue of the Elecktroids' sought after 1995 debut album, Clone offers up a tasty new edition of the shadowy, Drexciya-related outfit's only EP, "Kilohertz". Interestingly, the Clone crew has somehow managed to locate an additional fifth track - the mind-altering vocal electro sleaze of "Digital Warlock" - that was missing from the original Warp Records pressing. It's a neat bonus on top of the other four tracks, and they are all seriously scintillating. Highlights include the "Computer World"-era Kraftwerk style alien bounce of "Remote Control Hornet", the glassy-eyed, synthesizer-fuelled positivity of "Magnetic Field" and the weighty beat-box electrofunk buzz of "Kilohertz".

Au Velodrome 141 (5:17)
Glasfabrik (4:41)
Capataz (2:51)
Review: Dark Entries has been at the forefront of the coldwave and synth revival that has slowly taken hold over the last decade. Next up they turn their attention to a reissue of an out of print EP from 1988 by Jordi Guber and Krishna Goineau as Velodrome. Villalobos has been known to drop cuts from it, which should give you a good idea of its musical style: freaky 80s electro built on steppy drums, with taut and twanging synths reverberating around the mix, as exemplified by the opener. "Glasfabrik" is a hyper-speed cut with a tongue in cheek vocal, while "Capataz" is the most well-known joint with its acid bass and crashing hits.

Review: Detroit duo Aux88 always danced to a different drum than their Motor City peers, developing a ludicrously weighty trademark sound that put massive, mind-mangling analogue bass and gut-punching electro beats at the heart of the action. "Direct Drive", a 1995 release that has long been hard to find (hence this much-needed reissue), is one of the best examples of their distinctive sound. The title track (side A on this edition) is little more than a raw, thrusting bassline, snappy machine beats, spacey pads and occasional Kraftwerk samples, but it's brilliantly floor-friendly and brilliantly executed - Detroit body music for those who like their club cuts sub-heavy. Elsewhere, "Aux Express (DJ K1 Mix)" is a bouncy electro jam and the short "Bytes" tracks are wonky vocal samples for creative DJs.

Review: Unstoppable electro machine Carl Finlow (aka Silicon Scally) lands on Orson with more of that impeccable robo-funk he's so revered for. "Elastic Collisions" leads the charge with a tough and teasing workout that works around a heavy low end and plenty of sparkling sound design up top. "Octodecillion" keeps things on a dystopian tip, where a bleak future sounds as funky as it does ominous. "Probabilities" heads into a less floor-focused space where thick layers of buffed and polished synth wriggles collide in high-definition. "Mechanomics" completes the set with another taut belter geared towards the heads down section of the party.

Timeless (6:22)
Clutch (7:03)
Correlation (6:35)
Review: After debuting his Pakzad moniker on Infiltrate last year, Justin Pak makes the leap to Burnski's Constant Sound with this assured set of electro workouts built for the modern age. "Timeless" is a snappy, vibrant cut with a serious amount of techno propulsion to match the crooked funk of the beats. "Clutch" has a more trippy, melodic twist, while "Correlation" hunkers down into a more backroom vibe as detailed as it is freaky. This is seriously executed electro from a fast-rising talent - nab a copy, drop it into a set and watch the bodies writhe.

Review: With a true curation of artists, this double LP marks the eclectic and passionate works from Public System. The latest in the synth-heavy sludgedown from the ever impressive imprint, invites a new cast of characters into the dungeon dance. The common theme throughout this collection, seems to be wide, slowed down melancholy. Some tracks take a floor-focused jump, while others demand the attentive consumption of a more serene setting. These two discs are packed with dynamic, chugging, and forward thinking jams that make you mesh all things the imprint is clearly passionate for.

Review: Finnish producer Mesak steps up on Orson following the previous killer entry from Carl Finlow, and he's got just as much electro firepower to dish out as the celebrated Silicon Scally. "Sata EP" kicks off with the dystopian ripples of "Ayran Meydan," which zips through nervy, strafing synths and nimble acid licks. "Dim Sun" brings a funkier style to the table, while "Kruisata" plunges into the aqueous depths of Detroit flavoured electro. Extended jam "Iskut" stretches out for eight body popping minutes of stern-faced robo funk to fully cut loose to - it's the perfect finishing move on an EP packed full of advanced electro excellence.

Review: When you hear the crisp robo-electro of "Don't Stop The Rock" it immediately transports you back to the mid-eighties when these sounds were first emerging and blowing up the streets. A real favourite of cult Detroit DJ The Electrifying Mojo aka Jeff Mills, it will still have you doing back flips to this day with its jerking beats and serrated synth lines all looking to the future. On the flip, the urgent space crusade that is "It's Automatic" surges with galactic chords with robotic vocals that bring a brilliant retrofuture feeling. This is an essential little 7" that really packs a punch.

Review: AUX88 The 1990's launched an onslaught of projects and musical influences to a new generation of listeners to a re-emergence of electro. Paying homage to those before, a four-man crew from the east side of Detroit, AUX88, laid down the foundation of the gritty sound of the streets, and made their presence known via urban radio, dance clubs, and overseas venues. The time has come for those who were major influences to add their touch to the continuation of that sonic pallet.

Review: Bjarki's BBBBBB label has carved out its own unique niche in the techno world and next to occupy it is core label artist Stian "EOD" Gjevik. The former Rephlex artist shows off his magnificently complex and busy yet harmonic and melodic sound across five fantastically restless cuts that has lead synths taking you down a number of rabbit holes. Calming pads vie for your attention on "(Untitled) (W-R6)" while the acid laced "The Battery Poles (Are Conic!)" is so bright and shiny it'll have you reaching for your sunglasses. Review: Latvian label Blind Allies have been on a roll since first committing to their various artists series to wax two years ago. On their latest release, the A side is given over to UK producer Dexterous Numerics, who offers up two tracks of dark and emotive electro heavy on leads and atmospherics. On the flip, Lectromagnetique takes a freakier turn into sparse, dungeon-ready acid electro that should appeal to fans of Bunker Records et al. Davide Piras has a lighter touch on "Arcade" that draws from the Drexciya school of thought, and DVS NME's "Song For The Doomed" rolls out an expressive strain of braindance as considered as it is punchy.

Review: Some nine months on from the last album release under the Exaltics alias - the acid-fuelled electro of "Das Heise Experiment 2" - Robert Witschakowski is back with another full-length effort. While there are some sonic similarities to its predecessor, Witschakowski has really ratcheted up the intergalactic influences, with the vast majority of the material on show sitting somewhere between the undersea heaviness of Drexciya and the futurist, sci-fi-fired deep space vibes that have long been associated with electro. There are a few downtempo moments, but for the most part the storied producer keeps his sights set on the dancefloor. Highlights are plentiful and include the crystalline creepiness of "One", the throbbing intensity of "Skyway Chase" and the moody, ERP style deep electro of "Missing Places".

Feeling (BFX remix) (6:45)

Above (Brice Kelly remix) (5:55)
Review: Proud and in charge, Exzact returns with more unfaltering electro aimed at the purists in the room while still exploring avenues that will appeal to ears of a wider sonic disposition. Three tracks of broken futurism all equally accomplished and irresistible. 'Feeling' is perhaps the most upfront here, its arpeggiated introduction building atmosphere before beats drop that can only really be described as fresh, picking up tracking high-hats as things progress before introducing an echoed synth arrangement plucked straight from Bladrunner's deleted party scene. The BFX remix throws in four-to-the-floor sections, using these to build tension, breaks acting as explosive moments to unleash the true vibe. Kenethetic joins on the high pitched 'Above', while man of the moment- in this genre at least- Brice Kelly turns said track into a moody, evil work of genius.

Review: Relentlessly prolific Boris Bunnik brings his electro-focused Versalife alias to 20/20 Vision, a label which has been excelling at a renewed focus on the sounds of electro in recent years. The 808 beats are crisp and snapping, like they should in proper electro, but the synths shape out the atmosphere in brooding, dystopian strokes shot through with a certain mournful quality. It makes for engrossing, emotionally charged material perfect for the dancefloor as much as headphone reveries - just flip to the gorgeous "Aegis" and feel yourself drift away to somewhere mystical in the far reaches of the future.

Review: Fresh from delivering two killer cuts on a split release with pal Jack Michael on Orbital London, former Osman artist Harry Wills pops up on LEMAK. There's plenty to admire throughout, from the subtle deep garage influences, bleeping melodies and rolling tech-house grooves of opener "Quench", to the shuffling deep electro pulse of ghostly closing cut "Grebe". By far away the most arresting cut on the EP, "Capri Swung", is sandwiched between the two. This sees him continue to develop his trademark garage-influenced tech-house sound by wrapping glitchy electronics and jammed-out organ chords around a bonkers, Luke Vibert style bassline and swinging two-step drums.

Review: Not An Animal regulars Ess O Ess are back with an effervescent 12" that spans starry-eyed electro and pastoral electronica. "Voice Inside" comes in French and English versions, depending on what flavour you want from the sultry spoken word turn on the top of the plush harmonics of the production. As well as the killer original track, there's choice remixes on offer too from The Backwoods and Craig Richards. The former takes a cosmic, trippy approach to the track, but keeps the focus sharp thanks to a snapping 4/4 beat. Craig Richards meanwhile takes things far away from the original with a brilliant slice of discordant electro weirdness for the after hours crowd.

Mechatronica welcome them for four more hard hitting jams after their "Vapour Waves" EP on this label got plenty of people talking. These are tunes with an old school feel that will blow up your bass bins and tear apart your tweeters with their mix of low end heaviness and bright melodic patterns. The first release is a various artists affair that kicks off with the bold and expressive sound of rising talent Gilbert, last spotted on two excellent Innate releases. Mindless Evolving Objects takes a similar approach laden with harmonious pads and twinkling arps, while Datawave takes things in a darker direction without losing that melodic nous. Review: With brand new interest in beats and rhythm once again coming into play, Puzzlebox label owner, Keith (K-1) Tucker, has now decided to revise and revisit the music from his catalog as "Puzzlebox Classics." "Atomaton EP" opens with "Nemesis", which brings on Tucker's signature Electro/Techno beats, a tough as nails funky bassline, and his trademark eerie strings. "Oscillator (bonus beats)" maintains that perfect beat, a dramatic bassline, and swinging percussion attitude to the fold before closer "Techno It's On My Mind" with its mind-bending arps and clicky pecussion shoot this off-world thumper into overdrive for your ears. The Glasgow-based producer starts in suitably big fashion via "External Observer", where what sounds like an orchestra of synthesizers gets to work over a skittish, bass-heavy electro beat, before exploring more dystopian dancefloor pastures on the moody, alien-sounding and otherworldly "Fuzzy Clouds Of Potential Existence". On side B he gives his out-there interpretation of early jungle ("Coming Up For Air"), batters a broken computer into submission and makes electro gold out of it (the slightly melancholic "Mechanistic Control Fantasies") and soundtracks the end of days (or possibly Brexit) on weirdo closing cut "Terminal Phase".
