Review: Having signalled the end of their Originals series in fine fettle with a wonderful selection from the New York based producer and selector Alex from Tokyo, Claremont 56 send out the end product of what must be one of the most onerous tasks in recent years. This rather dashing 5xLP box set house two tracks a side from each of the ten Originals compilations issued since the series commenced back in 2008. Aside from the sticky issues of actually legally licensing these tracks for a vinyl release, there's also the factor of having to whittle out just two songs from each of the compilations. Regardless, Paul Mudd Murphy has done a splendid job with inclusions such as Donna McGhee's superb disco cut from the Rong Music volume or the undervalued Anthony Watson gem from the final installment getting the approval of the Juno review team.

Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Disco Dimension"
Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee - "Sweet 2 Me"
Luvless - "Deluvation"
Jay West - "Now That You Know"
Review: Straight outta Chopsville, Canada comes the popular and hard-working Editorial camp with a seventh round of edit-shaped goodness for all good contemporary discotheques. Label stalwarts Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee are naturally present and correct and this time they share sides with Rose Records head honcho Luvless and Candy Dealers, the edit-specific alias of Argentinean deep house don Jay West. Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee call shot gun and lay down two sublime A Side cuts with the luxuriant and warm swagger of "Disco Dimension" complemented by the Tiger & Woods style 80's boogie-beat down hybridism of "Sweet 2 Me" which has an excellent twanging bassline. Face down Luvless heads in more explicitly house territory with the shimmering "Deluvation" which has a touch of the Lauers about it whilst a certified disco classic is chopped up by Candy Dealers on "Don't Let It Go".

Left The Sun Shine In
+1
Review: Having contributed to Man Make Music's recent under-the-counter Edits 12", the mysterious U returns with a more conclusive demonstration of his/her production capacity with a second 10" release for the label founded by Georgey FitzG and co. Lead cut "I" is based around a pretty darn soulful vocal hook and the way it's edited shows U to be quite the talent. The production work around it is reminiscent of Daphni at times and the overall result is one of those tracks that will immediately grab a dancefloor. Premiered on Pitchfork, B Side cut "Left The Sun Shine In" shows U is eminently capable of more than feel good house music, feeling more like a less introverted Forest Swords track whilst "+1" is a wonderfully fuzzy piano vignette.

200
200 (Khidja remix)
200 (Asphodells remix)
200 (Asphodells dub)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Especial is delighted to welcome Baris to the roster. Known for his edit series of obscure Turkish Psychedelic, Rock and Disco, here he takes the producer's chair to present "200". Working with musicians and singers to create a completely original production. The song's message for equality (of the sexes) highlights the bigotry and backward political and religious boundaries his country faces and acts as a siren to the current troubles. Handed to Emotional Recordings over 5 years ago but with no label to release it at that time, now we are delighted to be able to release 200's message. The original is backed with remixed from new production duo Khidja, as well as East London's finest, The Asphodells. Teaming up with guitarist Balabas, Romania's Khidja turn in a deep and introspective interpretation mixing their own heavy eastern influences, while the B-side sees Weatherall and Fairplay don their Asphodells mantle for two renditions that firmly lay it before the ALFOS alter. With artwork (by Jamie Paton) highlighting the struggle for fairness and freedom in his homeland, we hope the release can be seen as a support for their tribulations and highlight the talent that lays East.

On Point
Golyak
Review: On point... Not just an apt name for the latest instalment of his super-collectable 7" series, but the perfect way to describe Eddie C's abilities as a disco and funk merchant. Released just weeks after his killer album Country City Country was repressed (by popular demand), both of these original cuts shimmer with funk decadence; "On Point" is a stripped back slap bass and string groove with heaps of space that allows the big squishy synth licks to shine through on the fills. "Golyak", meanwhile, stumbles and lulls with a rustic south European folk soul. Beautiful.

Saffron
Night Addict
Review: Golf Channel's All Star trans-Atlantic duo Dr Dunks and The Rhythm Odyssey cross swords for a fourth time on the heavyweight (and long overdue) Saffron. The collaborative project between Chicken Lipper Dean Meredith and Rub N Tugger Eric Duncan was founded with a view to concocting the very finest analogue assembled proto House and modern disco and it's worked a treat thus far. The approach continues in ripping fashion on "Saffron" which regular attendees of the more considered international discotheques will no doubt recognise thanks to the upfront promos delivered to a select few selectors earlier this year - never have a piano motif and bullying drums sounded so effective! "Night Addict" meanwhile, demonstrates Dr Dunks and The Rhythm Odyssey are equally capable of operating at a slightly slower tempo, splaying heavily delayed and dismembered vocals over an angry little arpeggiated bassline - one for the 4am crowds!

In The Disco Last Night (Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco edit)
Disco Brothers (Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco edit)
Review: With the Ableton grasping fad hunters having lone ridden off into the sun set in search of the next bandwagon to saturate, the art of the disco edit has been left in the expert hands of those methods are tried and tested. Chief amongst them is the Disco Deviance label who crank out a thirtieth transmission here, with two long term contributors at the helm in the shape of Pete Herbert and Dicky Trisco. Both "In The Disco Last Night" and "Disco Brothers" will be familiar to the diggers and come with the following glowing recommendation from Disco Godfather Ashley Beedle: "Both cracking renditions and the right amount of gayness ?. Big support!" Nuff said!

Build The Band
Review: This is the third EP (in almost as many years) that sees the Japanese abstract techno duo Cos/Mes revisit their 2007 album Sadistic Skatepark: reversions come from Discodromo (deep chugging Terje style cosmodrama) and Soft Rocks (lullaby-like arpeggios set to a bed of whimsical synth pitch bends and FX) Complementing these is the appearance of Cos/Mes classic "Build The Band" which originally featured as a B Side on a limited 7" released by the High Feelings label. If the slinky slap bass twang-out with added hip-swings and wig-outs sounds familiar it's because the track was a highlight of the classic Live At Robert Johnson mix by Prins Thomas.

Topo - "Ba Ba Go Go" (instrumental)
Edwin Birdsong - "Rapper Dapper Snapper" (insturmental)
The Crusaders - "Stomp & Buck Dance"
Airto Moreira - "Parana"
Tangerine Dream - "Choronzon"
Will Powers - "Adventures In Success" (dub)
Review: Spread across two 12"s, Star Gazer's debut collection dives deep into the late 70s/early 80s' bottomless creative party pool. Ranging from Birdsong's Yello-style formative electro to the bright, tight JB-style funk jamming of "Stomp & Buck Dance", the set is at once disparate and consistent. The Afro hinted in the title is Airto Moreira's "Parana". A cosmic unity of harmony and percussive hypnosis, along with the once highly sought-after dub of "Adventures In Success", it's one of the highlights of this ace LP.

Blue Tuesday (original)
Turkish Delight
Blue Tuesday (MZKBX remix)
Review: The Macadam Mambo Trax offshoot of the long running label run by French pair Sacha Mambo and Guillaume Des Bois looks to West Yorkshire for its second transmission with Leeds pair Joe's Bakery Band at the helm. Typically for Yorkshiremen, Craig Christon and Joe "the baker" Gill have a winning sense of humour that manifests itself in the title track "Blue Tuesday" which isn't actually a New Order edit, instead rolls out like a lost cut from a 1980s cop TV show. Complementing this, "Turkish Delight" somehow pulls elements from Italo, Arabian Dance music and 80s rock into one cohesive dancefloor burner, whilst Sacha Mambo dons his Mzkbx alias to drop a Trax-style jacking house refix of the title track.

Think Of U (LNTG rework)
That's A Groove (LNTG full vocal mix)
That's A Groove (LNTG Funkin' remix)
Review: Tough by name, sexy by nature, here we find Australia's LNTG focusing on two very well-known disco funk gems. First up is a chugging, jacked up take on Chic's "I Want Your Love". Adding rhythmic muscle and fine-tuning the bass, it's a fine example of a quintessential edit. Next up are two renditions of Tom Browne's "Funkin For Jamaica". The titles speak for themselves... Those looking for a dancefloor sing-along should head for the full vocal mix while those looking for more a bass-loving boogie showdown should head for the funkin' remix. Tough times call for Tuff measures!

Widowmaker
Afterburner
Review: After a successful debut last year on Redux the Machete Savane duo are back with two new tracks, gracing Felix Dickinson's Cynic label with the double A sided 12" Widowmaker / Afterburner. Lead track "Widowmaker is a pumping psychedelic rock disco power piece that has been doing the business to dancefloors all summer for the select few who have managed to get their hands on it. Driving bass and rock chords layered with arpeggiators and finished off with a sublime keyboard solo from Matt Watson. "Afterburner" is a house remake of "Widowmaker", although it's so far removed you'd not recognise it as such. It still has the same late night vibe, but more stripped back and electronic, with tinges of acid. Both tracks received support from the likes of Tim Sweeney/Beats In Space, Lee Douglas (TBD) and Simon Lee (Faze Action).

Review: Pressed from rarer-than-hens-teeth acetate, these unreleased versions of Candido's genre-setting "Thousand Finger Man" and "Dancin' & Prancin'" remove the Salsoul disco gloss and present a much warmer, more authentic lo-fi vibe. Untouched in every other way, both cuts act as unique portals to a time when dancefloor science was still a mysterious alchemy... And proceed to show how forward-thinking Candido was. Limited to one per customer, this is highly limited. Grab it while you can.

Review: After an absence of fifteen years, Jamie Read reignites his Push II Shove label with a fresh EP under his LHAS moniker. Those with a keen interest in contemporary house music will no doubt be familiar with LHAS jammers for Housewax, Vibrations, Knoe, Cynic and more in recent times, and Read's career stretches back over the past 20 years and includes numerous credited and uncredited releases. The self explanatory Push II Shove 3 EP sees Read return to his own label in style with four new productions steeped in the LHAS style.

Review: A bona fide boogie buzz that whisks us right back to the synth-worshipping 80s, Raw Silk Volume 1 is a celebration of electronic music's most formative flavours. Everything about this collection screams smoothness: from the bending synth lines and mooching squidgy bass of "Saturday Jam" to the smouldering falsettos of "Wanna Play Hooky" via the likes of "In Gear" and "Peak Of Summer", two talkbox jams so sexy and funky they'd make Roger Troutman blush. A confident set that guarantees to warm your soul, the 80s is alive and well at Omega Supreme.
