Review: As per usual, those fiendish folks over at Dark Entries have amazed us once again with yet another barrel of 1980s gold from the depths of the underground. This time it's German new wave band Boytronic who see a reissue, and the EP in question is 1988's "Byllyant", which features the magnificent Plus 8 mix - a shot to the head made up of warm bass tones and hard-hitting drum machine patterns - and also the US mix, which literally sounds like it was made yesterday; for being an '80s EP, Boytronic steered well clear of cheesy and to be honest, they give New Order a proper run for their money. The 1984 mix of "Trigger Track" is a wonderful electro stormer, stamping its fast beats over eerie pads and growling basslines. This would be silly not to recommend! For the diggers.

Review: Pavel Milyakov has largely impressed since making his debut under the Buttechno alias earlier this year, delivering a pair of 12" singles that gather together short, hardware-driven experiments in a variety of dystopian styles. Here, the Russian producer debuts under his given name, once again flitting between dark and spacey dancefloor workouts, bleak broken techno, macabre electro, wonky IDM and panicky ambience. Despite the stylistic shifts, the EP hangs together impressively, thanks in no small part to Milyakov's penchant for industrial textures, tape echo and haunting melodies. If you're into the releases of L.I.E.S and Berceuse Heroique, you need this in your life.

Headcleaner (11:35)
In Norwegen Ganz Verwegen (6:25)
Review: Yes! Our main man Shack is back on his own Woe To The Septic Heart with his undeniably singular take on electronic music. Taking string influence from the likes of Muslimgauze, Shackleton has consistently blurred the lines of UK dance music over the years, never truly heading into techno or dubstep, but also never too close to total electronic abstraction. "Headcleaner" is a rich and vibrant blend of his familiarly hypnotic percussion, eerie background sonics and that wavey whirlpool of melodies. "In Norwegen Ganz Verwegen" is broken and disjointed, loose and genre-bending, offering the groove a sort of trans-like state that never quite seems to break free. Wonderful stuff, as always.

Review: Some of the best record labels out there act as a platform for hitherto unknown artists and music scenes to get wider exposure, and with this latest release Golf Channel certainly fall under that banner. Autarkic is a cold wave project from Tel Aviv musician Nadav Spiegel whose work is new to us at Juno HQ but most certainly a fine addition to the Golf Channel canon. The four-track Hello To Mrs Blank arrives with the assistance of fellow Tel Aviv outfit Red Axes, channelling both a sound and look that feels very much like a well-executed contemporary take on the cold wave and primitive electronics aesthetic.

Review: If you really want to get technical, Luke Vibert has pretty much released on every respected UK label since the mid 1990's. From Warp, to Mo Wax and now even Hypercolour, the veteran electronic pioneer has had a star-studded career. In more recent years, Planet Mu has also released pleanty of his goodness, and Vibert now returns to the imprint with a new album, Bizarster. The only way to describe this collection of tracks is that they are simply the product of many years in the game and millions of hours spent breathing many different genres and styles in. From "Knockout", an odd broken beat-grime hybrid, to the deep house vibe of "Officer's Club", and the trip hop swing on "I Can Phil It", this is an LP for anyone who is in to the UK's electronic dynasty. There's a little bit of everything in there, a collection of Vibert's journeys throughout the years.

Guilty Of Love (vocal mix) (8:20)
Guilty Of Love (Guilty Of dub) (8:29)
Review: The Unloved trio - David Holmes, Keefus Ciancia, and Jade Vincent - came through with their impressive debut single this year, the aptly named "Guilty Of Love". As soon as it dropped, our ambient, downtempo and electronica nerds went into a state of total frenzy, and it's no surprise given the charm and mystique of the tune. Their own Unloved imprint, however, has given us another cause for excitement this week by releasing two remixes of the tune by space disco legend, Andrew Weatherall. The London DJ master drops two mixes: the gorgeous lead mix which contains the original's lovely vocals but adds in a fine layer of beats and extra atmospherics, and a sublime "Guilty Of Dub" mix that goes extra deep on the beats and bass. This is so heavily recommended that we have no vocabulary to express our shivering delight...

Review: Russia's Lapti has been away from the scene for a while, because his so called brand of 'vaporwave' is exactly the sort fo thing we're into when it comes to abstract moulds of ambient and drone. He returns to action after four years with blinding album on his native Ghost Zvuk label, bringing through a truly fresh and daring blend of electronic sounds. "Ushu", for instance, deserves no categorization thanks to its odd broken beats and swelling mutant bass, and the equally excellent "plague" is an experimental hip hop tune from the depths of the inferno. There's so much in this LP that it's almost beyond description; what we can say is that if you're looking for something that truly blurs the lines, then Lapti is the man for you. Very hotly recommended.

Insomniac (6:57)
Should've Been A Drummer (7:02)
Review: With recent releases from Zomby and Special Request to their name, XL Recordings seem to be returning to their dancefloor roots in a big way. Here, they welcome back Diagonal boss Oscar Powell, who follows up his recent "Sylvester Stallone" 12" with two more certified dancefloor bombs featuring the widely publicized sampled sounds of Steve Albini. "Insomniac" is particularly potent, drawing on EBM and industrial for inspiration. The result a distorted, vocal-laden, punky affair, like DAF or Front 242 given a 21st century makeover. Flipside "Should've Been A Drummer" is a similarly full-throttle affair - admittedly with more of a standard 4.4 swing - with ragged analogue electronics and the kind of grit-laden sonic textures for which he's renowned.

Crash (7:35)
Review: Robert Henke returns with some more of his unmistakable composition and sound design, as only the inventor of Ableton could create. D E C includes three tracks, all, coincidentally, named after each letter. Well then; "Dystopia" features an immaculately programmed broken beat over stuttering snares and glitchy hi-hats while bizarre synthesis textures come at you from all ends of its audio spectrum. "Error" is a haunting ambient piece with its rich and evolving pads, transforming from dark strings to intergalactic soundscapes. Finally "Crash" gets back at you with another tight broken beat programmed to perfection while its steady onslaught of exquisite metal strikes and evil risers engulf you in 3D. Magnificent.

Hexentrix (Jordan GCZ remix) (13:17)
Review: With his passion for the unusual and unsettling, Florian Meyer's Don't DJ project is a perfect fit with Gizmo's similarly inclined Berceuse Heroique imprint. While the Germann producer's most recent previous outing explored krautrock-inspired drone textures for Emotional Response, "Hexentrix" is a pleasingly melodious affair - even if the chiming, music box melodies have a curiously chilling feel. This uneasy vibe is emphasized further via loose, organic sounding percussion and a surprisingly powerful drone bassline. Jordan GCZ remixes, utilizing many of the original elements while adding the restless pulse of a hypnotic techno rhythm.

Review: Cache-Cache head honchos Andy Votel and Doug Shipton compile, in their words: unreleased, unknown and unwanted reluctant punk and snide synth pop. Well then: '70s porn funk merges with Latin exotica on Philippe Brejean's "Hilling Car" while Melbourne cosmic travellers Cybotron (yes you heard right, Juan Atkins this 'aint!) traverse the asteroid belt on "Sweet 16/9th Floor". There's more rare gems worth checking. Try Plastiktanz, who released their one and only 12" in 1981 and the curious minimal synth jam "Mir Geht Es Danke Gut" is taken from this. Don Gere, he of Werewolves On Wheels OST (another re-issue on Finders Keepers) goes all guns blazing on the psych rock of "There's A Star In You" while Bernard Szajner aka Zed, (recently rediscovered on Agoria's InFine imprint also) gives us the epic cosmic synth journey of "The Premen" too. There's a lot to get through here and it's all rather curious we must say. Highly recommended.

Review: Oh Lord! These days there are even reissues of albums from a few years back on different labels! That just shows the state we're in right now: everybody's just vinyl hungry. Imre Kiss' 2013 cassette excursion on Farbwechsel, the aptly named Midnight Wave, is given the vinyl treatment by London powerhouse Lobster Theremin, and the artwork has been given a good makeover, too. Many of you are probably familiar with the release already, but this is the perfect joint if you're looking for house music that spans onto the bizarre and the abstract; you'll find nine tracks of meditative dancefloor delight and, as Ron Morelli would label it, it's certainly club music for shut ins. For fans of everything from Opal Tapes to Berceuse Heroique.

Nino 'Shapednoise' Pedone has already served up an enticing collaborative project on his Cosmo Rhythmatic label this year in the shape of his 12" alongside Black Rain, but the mere idea of pairing up Mika Vainio and Franck Vigroux should stop fans of the electronic avant garde in their steps. Purportedly brought together after a show in Paris in 2012, Peau Froide, Leger Soleil is comprised of nine tracks that sit neatly at the juncture between rhythmic techno and abstract noise. Sporting some fine artwork, the album will sate the appetites of anyone craving some new ear dynamite from the iconic Finn, with opening track "Deux" setting the tone perfectly for what unfolds. An epic listen that demands and commands your full attention.

Review: Recorded last year at Rome's contemporary art museum, MAXXI is as graceful and noble as the environment in which it was created. "Intro" sets the tone for this work with its understated pulses and chilling synths. This leads into the deeper, more textured depths of "Sonia Danza" and the aptly named "Dreamscape Generation", which features warbling streams and rivulets of sound, squelches and chatter, like a moist riverbank on a spring morning. "Orange Steps" and "Scintille" are serene and more reflective, after this veritable flurry of musical activity. The release finishes with "Max", a cover of a piece by Italian composer Paolo Conte, but its chimes and layered textures are unmistakably Neel and Dozzy's.

Review: This third album by Neon Indian auteur Alan Palomo was partly inspired by a spell on a cruise ship with his brother, who was playing in the house band at the time. Moreover, something of this experience makes its way onto 'Vega Intl Night School', which boasts not only a cosmopolitan and open-minded approach to the dancefloor but a luxuriant and licentious atmosphere decidedly redolent of vintage Prince. Yet the key to this album's power lies in his ability to balance out sonic experimentation with vibrant pop suss, resulting in a dizzying multi-colour blast of genre-destroying music that's as invigorating as it is disorientating.

Review: Donato Dozzy's previous album, Sintetizzatrice, made beautiful, avant-garde music out of chopped-up and manipulated vocals. For The Loud Silence, he's attempted to do similar with the "marranzano", better known as the humble mouth harp or Jew's Harp. The instrument's distinctive twang can be heard throughout the album, providing inspiration for trippy, droning ambience ("Personal Rock"), glitchy electronica ("The Net"), abstract techno ("Downhill To The Sea", whose industrial influences are obvious), and triumphant, post-Orbital soundtrack electronica (closer "Exit The Acropolis", which is nothing less than superb). Of course, there are musty textures and off-kilter electronic textures throughout, too, but it's the alien-sounding mouth harp the draws Dozzy's disparate strands together.

Review: Pilooski digs deep into his most experimental side with a project inspired by a 1930s-preserved time-capsule; a Vietnamese villa built during the December years of French media magnate William Berretty where he isolated himself from both the world and his fading grandeur. Over ambient, dreamy, spacious arrangements Pilooski has invited four readers: Jarvis Cocker reads from Gustav Jung's Red Book, Judah Warsky delivers his own personal homage to the sun and moon, Narumi Herisson reads an extract from Ango Sakaguchi's No Mori No Makai No Shita while French writer Liberati reads from his own 113 Studies Of Romantic Literature. The result sits somewhere between an ageless film, radio drama and a really tripped out children's audio book. Unquestionably unique.

Review: Despite attempts to retain his anonymity, the true identity of the "well-known producer" behind the Levantis project is hardly hidden (if you're still unaware, Google is your friend). Why this particular producer felt the need for an alternative alias is open for debate, because there are aspects of Romantic Psychology Vol. 1, the Levantis debut album, that feel similar in ethos, texture and execution to his more familiar pseudonym. In some ways, it's irrelevant, of course. Judged on its' own merits, this is a fine set that offers an instinctive, hugely atmospheric blend of stripped-back ambience, dubbed-out sound design, curious ecclesiastical influences, quiet melodies and glitchy, scratchy electronica.

Consisting of four tracks, The Unforgiven commences in strident Italo fashion with the title track, a real muscle-laden dancefloor number with just the right dash of electro drama and some foreboding hushed vocals. From here, Machinegewehr delves deeper into the electro sound on "You Are", whilst Gees Voorhees adds her distinct vocals to the stripped back highlight "The Geist Line". Machinegewehr heads for the dancefloor on final cut "Shield".

Review: Jim Jupp and Julian House's Ghost Box imprint has been a favourite of ours since their first releases all the way back in 2004. The English label has been at the forefront of the 'outsider' game since way before the term was even coined, and aside from releasing a mountain of interesting soundtrack sounds from all over, they've had some regulars over the years that have helped the label maintain its charisma and singularity. Among these are Pye Corner Audio, Roj, The Focus Group, Mount Vernon Arts Lab, and many others. In A Moment: Ghost Box is a stunning - and handsomely packaged - retrospective collection of some of the label's best work to date. If you're into long, trippy excursions into synths and field recordings, then this is for you. If you're already a fan of the label then it's an absolute must.

The London-based grime futurist has made a name for himself since his debut back in 2011, and he's released on everything from Ramp to Lit City Trax in the process. His debut LP is a wonderful amalgamation of electronic r&b and UK bass, where dance tracks retain a soulful edge and more soulful tune contain a dance sensibility. It's a surprising addition to PAN at first, but given Bill Kouligas' passion for UK music, it's not a shocker. In fact, it fits in ever so well. Big!
