INDEX 007 (12")
Cat: INDEX 007. Rel: 14 Jul 20
  1. Seven & Seventeen (7:25)
  2. Kiwami Formed (5:36)
  3. Seven & Seventeen (GOD69 remix) (3:55)
Review: Index 007 gets shaken and stirred with this high grade broken techno right here from young Ike Zwanikken. Freeform, uptempo, icier than a lockdown doghouse, each cut rattles away with a sense of mischief that could easily be compared to Si Begg. "Seven & Seventeen" lights the first with glacial ripples and skittering drums. "Kiwami Formed" errs more on the trad electro side with its pneumatic beats, staccato riff and liberal amounts of lasers. For a final spicy chaser GOD69 provides a powerful remix climax. Woozy.

  5. Take 2 (4:30)
  6. Kalimbo (5:20)
Review: Bean grinding business from Sydney newcomer Unpin on brand new label from the Velodrome collective. Six tracks deep, each cut as springy and tightly coiled as the last, the well-oiled funk of "At Traction" kicks us off before the acidic "Bang Tool" takes us into bumping ghetto territory, "Calling You" is the essence of rave over razor-sharp two-step and "Itchy & Scratchy" goes straight for your mind and mushes it up good and proper. Elsewhere "Take 2" is a wonderfully wonky slab of bluesy UKG and "Kalimbo" closes the show on a dreamy jungle tip. What a crucial debut.

Body Movement 002 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BMVMT 002. Rel: 13 Jul 20
  1. Robert James & Jack Michael - "B2A"
  2. Lvca & Sidd - "Chroma"
  3. Frazer Campbell - "One Armed Bandit"
  4. North Phase - "Zone 1"
Review: Robert James already made a splash with releases on Hot Creations and Viva Music before launching Body Movement last year. Now he's back on his own label with a various artists 12" that widens the scope of the project, leading in with a collaboration from the man himself and Jack Michael - the dynamic and twisting electro funk of "B2A". Lvca & Sidd take body-popping machine music in a more minimal direction with the sleek "Chroma", while Frazer Campbell kicks off the B side with the uptempo pulse of "One Armed Bandit". North Phase flips the script with some dynamic, electronica-infused garage styles on the system-ready "Zone 1".
