Day Light (original mix)
Day Light (Jono Fernandez remix)
Review: Oh yes!!! The new round of Burrito releases for the end of 2006 starts with a tasty Burrito debut for 10 Rapid. With dancefloor bombs already under his belt for Carepack and a particularly good Dizzee Rascal bootleg, plus many may recognise the name as the winner of the Marine Parade remix competition on Beatport for his Stone Lions "Snow Over Arizona" mix. Well, as soon as the demo for this track, 'Daylight', landed on the doorstep of Koma & Bones towers we knew we were onto a good thing. Phat sounds, beefy techy bass, mad vox sample & a f*cked up vibe - an instant winner. With Jono Fernandez drafted in from down-under to add his dirty 4/4 ideas, both mixes here are special. And with further releases on Carepack & Erase on the way, plus another ice cool release signed for Burrito, and a 2-man live laptop show on the horizon, 10 Rapid is moving fast now.

Gone Too Soon (5:55)
Zero Fifteen (6:20)
Review: Rave legends 2 Bad Mice return with their first release since 2004 and suddenly the world doesn't feel like quite such a bleak place. Naturally we're treated to the full spectrum from running man, heads-down rolling breaks ("Snake Charmer") to the absolute, unabashed piano heaven and hands-in-the-air euphoria of the title track. With the classic loose drum rolls and dubby subs of "Zero Fifteen" and the stretched out drum trippery of "Limit Of Paradise" completing the set, it's a welcome (and highly timely) return for one of rave music's most influential collectives.

Review: "In Your Ear" delivers high calibre tech-funk in true 30Hz pounding drum style dancing a fine line between thugged out and bugged out. "In Your Ear" is built to get the party dancing hard! Meanwhile on the flipside, Kraymon takes over the controls to rework the original into a tech licked 4/4 thumper with a super slinky, low-slung bassline and acid cocktail electro scribbles. It's a sexy little summer number.

Review: Debutants 4D & Krunky create ravey and funked-up minimal techno, taking its cues from early Detroit techno and northern bleep styles. The grooves to be heard on the Humanoid label's are as cute as the label art: from the strobed-out shuffle 'n' roll of 'Oplescot', to the west coast breaks of 'Stunt Bubble' calling to mind the mid '90s sounds of Northern California, and the hyper aware boompty boomp of closer 'Seasaw'.

Flash Fight (5:46)
False Religion (6:45)
Review: The second release on the fascinating Mooziken Analog Room label comes not from Detroit-based Iranian Salar Ansari, who delivered the imprint's debut release, but rather British acid house, techno and drum & bass pioneer A Guy Called Gerald. The Mancunian channels the raw, analogue-rich heaviness of his early work throughout the EP, which sees him skip between twisted, cunningly swung, acid-fired heaviness ('Old Skool'), pleasingly metallic blends of electro, clonk and house ('Sugoi'), trippy and hypnotic early morning mysticism (the Berlin-friendly haziness of 'Flash Fight') and chunky, funk-tinged tech-house (the 'is it heavyweight house or light-touch techno' of 'False Religion', where Gerald makes a rare appearance on the mic).

Betaville (Timothy J Fairplay remix) (6:43)
Review: Alvaro Cabana's Madrid based imprint (though mainly digitally formatted) has now made the jump to vinyl and boy are we happy. Charmingly named after his hometown (do check his reasoning on his Soundcloud; an interesting read) this label has some real potential, having released some great stuff by up and coming stars Jonathan Kusuma and Squarewave. It is now the turn of Canadian duo Jokers of The Scene who adopt the new alias A Jokers Bizarre for this particular outing. Leading the way is "Betaville", a soulful and emotive classic house jam in the vein of early Chicago/Detroit that clocks in at over 10 minutes. It is pretty epic. "Breakwater" goes for the more slo-mo nu-disco vibe and is just made for drifting, quite hypnotising. The remix by Timothy J Fairplay on the flip, is pretty sick too we must say!

Review: The return of the hugely successful "Insane Bangers" series sees Finger Lickin's very own 'Prince of Funk', A Skillz, step up to the bootleg podium and attempt to do his worst. Fresh from re-licking Soul Of Man, re-mixing Queen and re-touching Prince (not a job for the faint hearted!), the boy wonder has turned his sticky fingers to original kings of pop - The Beatles, with "Strawberry Jam Forever", a most modern of interpretations of "Strawberry Fields"!

Review: There's messing about on this fresh 12" from Abdul Raeva, a duo made up of Joonas Arro and Steffan Todorovic. They only debuted last year but have since offered up four EPs on four different labels, each with their own vibe. This one has a bulky old-school rave-house sound to 'Vapordisk' and the and dance floor dynamite keeps on coming with 'Acidflex'. It's 3 am business on 'Vela' - a smooth and cruising groover with nice drum loops and tripped-out breaks close out with 'New Horizons'. Super stuff.

Review: Veteran Belarusian duo Access Denied drop the third in their Access Granted EP series, melding the lines once again between techno and breaks. Review: Three huge mixes of breakbeat duo Afghan Headspin's 2008 anthem 'MSG' on their own Valium imprint. Australian's Karton throw everything into the mix - breakbeat drums are merged with hoovering dubstep bass stabs for a truly filthy slab of fun. XXSR boss Mars drops some Stalingrad wobble, with some rattlesnake percussion and full fat drums filling out their mix nicely. Yoof (one half of Sons of Mecha) brings the South London vibes on his remix with typically banging results.

On The Rise (Timmy Schumacher dub mix)
Review: Agent Alvin is a man on the rise in the New Zealand drum & bass scene, with an album on Capital records and tunes forthcoming on labels as diverse as the legendary Full Cycle, Klute's imprint Commercial Suicide, G2, Incite and Cyanide. For Resin he has handed a stand-out tune to Timmy Schumacher for remix duties, a man responsible for dropping bombs on the dancefloor as part of Baitercell & Schumacher on labels such as Passenger, Funkatech, Zone and last year's banger on resin 'The Bass is Injected'. 'On The Rise' follows up from where 'The Bass Is Injected' left off. Taking an insanely catchy vocal hook and a smooth but potent and rootsy MC Spikey Tee verse, Timmy Schumacher rivets them on to the undeniably visceral, dancefloor energy of bassline-led breaks. On the flip is a dubbed out version of the track, full of head-spinning vocal cuts and fx for those that prefer it raw. "Insanely Catchy" (SOTO)

Review: There sure is an appropriate sense of futurism in these new breakbeats from Ahu. Opener 'Jina' is run through with far-sighted chords that bring to mind the glowing metropolis of Ridley Scott's 'Bladerunner' - it even feels like there's rain falling in the tune as well as subtle celestial vocals and deep, driving bass. and spoken word samples to add that cinematic ambiance. 'Jina (Mahsa)' is soulful machine music - fans of the glorious 69 project of Carl Craig will doubtless dig it - and then 'Nika' rides on a much more rubbery and lovely, lumpy Herbert-esque beat with molten synth melodies and a darker energy. A stylish EP, no doubt.

Review: Cairo based producer Hassan Abou Alam joins the revered ranks of the Banoffee Pies label here as it clocks up the 20th release. It is a punchy techno offering that opens with the roaming, brain-numbing leads of 'Kesibt' (feat SHBL-LBSH). The bass comes heavy, the percussion is raw, the refracted vocal a great hook. 'Fasla' (feat SHBL-LBSH) is hyperdrive double-time techno with wobbly bottom ends, 'Mawkif' further plays with the rules with its hopping hits and driving bass and this more original and inventive of offerings closes with 'Hanshoof', a physical bit of percussive techno funk.

The Albino Sound EP on Turnend Tapes finds him "translating visual into sound through his own experience. The sound designs is immense, from crystalline leads to hallucinatory synths, tiny bits of sonic grit to perfect designed drums. Review: Destination Baltimore 1995, Alienage (AKA Tony Pegas and Don Corrieri) indulged in a little lysergic and sonic experimentation. The results were a series of seriously heady club bangers released on Gargoyle and they still sound fat as hell 25 years later. This latest reissue sees Alienage take the lead with necksnap electro breaks, a sultry vox and buckets of sub before Pegas goes solo with his Madd Scientist alias on the b-boy style 'Funky Dreamz'. Review: If you've been amongst the sweaty throngs worshipping at the altar of Alkan of a Friday or Saturday night over the past few months, you will no doubt have heard Erol laying down the oddball house stylings of "Balls Of Steel" by Beau Wanzer. So it's little surprise to see the Nation and LIES artist one of the names called on to rework tracks from Alkan's overdue debut EP Illumination. It's even less of a surprise that Wanzer's 'adjustment' of "Bang!" stands out, removing all the sharp edges and turning it into an effective techno bludgeoning tool that will shake sweaty basements apart. Don't sleep on the A Side either however, as U's version of "Check Out Your Mind" is even more twisted than the chopped up original.
