Hallucinator (7:50)
Sendak (7:13)
Review: Asusu is of course a founding member of Livity Sound alongside Pev and Kowton, yet we've not been graced with some material from him on the label for something approaching three years! He's not exactly been silent with Asusu setting up his own Impasse label last year, but we are always going to be happy at the sight of a new Livity 12" from the producer. "Hallucinator" is particularly impressive, with Stennet lacing woozy, psychedelic, acid-flecked motifs over a bouncy, electro-influenced techno rhythm. Flipside "Sendak" explores similar sonic territory, with droning, Eastern-influenced electronics shuffling across the sound space. This is underpinned by a dense but surprisingly fluid rhythm track, which rolls along impressively whilst emphasizing the producer's weighty kick drums, skittish snares and arms-flailing swing.

Velez (A Made Up Sound remix 1)
Velez (A Made Up Sound remix 2)
Review: The Livity Sound Remix series continues apace in high profile fashion as Asusu's "Velez" is honoured with two reworks from A Made Up Sound. Announced only last month, the series looks to be gathering a pace that's as unrelenting as the music brandished within, and you get the feeling Dave Huismans was one of the first names on the list when Pev, Kowton and Asusu were drawing up who to approach. Whether it's as 2562 or A Made Up Sound, the Dutchman's swung rhythms and weighty productions bare a similar lineage to Livity Sound's bass heavy mutations. It's hard to pick a winner here, with "Velez" sounding equally potent in chime-heavy form on the A Side and the flip's much weightier version augmented by some squeaky acid effects.

Rendering
Review: Despite being one third of the Livity Sound live show alongside Peverelist and Kowton, Asusu has only one entry in their label's discography, the excellent Sister 12? which was released at the tail end of 2011 which paired the WAX style house of the title cut with some flipside brooding garage-techno mechanics. After numerous Livity drops from Pev or Kowton, Asusu returns to the fore in glorious fashion with Velez, which continues his label associates recent lineage of grime and jungle-inspired productions. "Velez" sees Asusu experiment more with weighty broken techno rhythms, all stitched together with tumbling percussion of the jungle-inspired variety, while "Rendering" is a more typical deep house track characterised by its dubby Bristolian textures.

Tribal Warrior (5:08)
3 X 2 (4:40)
Review: If polyrhythmic, hard-to-pigeonhole UK bass mutations are your thing, this new EP from Roska's occasional Bakongo project is a must-listen. Starting with the tribal rhythms and deep bass of 'Oww', the veteran producer offers up a succession of cuts that blend elements of UK funky, dub techno, and what was once called '140' with weighty sub-bass, tough drums, occasional chords and plenty of densely layered African and South American style percussion sounds. The emphasis throughout is on rhythm, rather than music, making all four cuts perfect for those DJs who love to pepper their sets and mixes with drum tracks and percussion jams.

Momoweb (5:12)
Disposition (5:13)
Goulbap (3:42)
Review: Roska dusts off his rare Bakongo alias for a trip down Livity street with three technoid excursions. Every bit as sci-fi as they are bashy; opener "Momoweb" lights the touch-paper with angular android skittishness, ping-ponging back and forth as though Modeselektor have been given the keys to UK funky tank. "Disposition" twirls with a flourishing reverse loop and steppy hi-hats in a way that wouldn't go amiss in a Rolando set, while "Goulbap" closes on a more stripped back bashment trip, all creepy and laced with decaying harmonics. Goulishly good.

Just Getting Started
Tilikum
Review: UK producer Bruce, soon to debut on Hessle Audio, finds himself following up Hodge's first release on Dnuos Ytivil with more quality, off the beaten track techno. The Livity Sound sub-label provides the emerging talent with his first record and "Just Getting Started" is a frenetic session of looped tribal drums, mechanical atmospheres and full-on rhythms drunk on swing, while a more subdued "Tilikum" on the B-side is awkwardly syncopated to start, before building into something deep - to then dropping back into a funky Chicago bassline groove.

Bleak (4:27)
Sundown (4:19)
Bleak (dub) (4:27)
Review: Earlier in the year, Livity Sound's "reverse" offshoot Dnous Ytivil returned after a two-year absence via a fine collaborative release from Hodge and Randomer. This relatively speedy follow-up is, if anything, even better, with debutant Bristol duo Cando serving up a trio of cuts that fuse typically Bristolian techno rhythms and serious bass-weight with tropical sounds and pleasingly glassy-eyed synthesizer melodies. It's a formula arguably best exemplified by bustling title track "Bleak", whose UK funky-influenced percussive pressure and surging bass-weight is offset by the picturesque quality of the electronic sounds placed on top. That said, the slightly more tribal Afro-tech drums and blissful synthesizer motifs of "Sundown" are also hugely impressive, while closing cut "Bleak (Dub)" is a sparse and heavy soundscape that reminded us of fellow Bristolian Ossia.

Review: Aussie producer Jarred Beeler aka DJ Plead returns to Livity Sound with the Quick EP. On the first side, you've got the contorted yet playful groove of 'Come Quick' and its nice steel drum melody, followed by the woozy cut 'Louca' taking you deep into mystical realms. Over on the flip, there's a dubby and slow burning stepper in the form of 'El Es' getting you into a deep medi state of mind, followed by the sublime 'Skittles' with its subtle bass pulsations underpinning a rich tapestry of melodic sequences.

All The Time (5:31)
Review: Somewhat surprisingly, it's been a while since we last heard from Bristol-based bass soldier Facta (AKA former Idle Hands, Bloc and Ancient Monarchy producer Oscar Henson). He's kept it simple for his first outing on Pev and Kowton's Livity Sound stable, serving up two lusciously dreamy, spaced-out cuts. Check first A-side "Dumb Hummer", a breezy shuffler blessed with sparkling computer beeps, post-tropical machine rhythms, ear-catching hand percussion and a decidedly restless bassline. B-side "All The Time" is warmer and woozier in feel. It sees Henson wrap a gentle but weighty, UK garage influenced rhythm in waves of hazy, dreamy synthesizer chords and ricocheting, dub-wise vocal samples.

Scanners (7:21)
Review: Forest Drive West is (or are?) still a mysterious figure to us, but we kinda like it to be that way; there is something pure and intriguing about an artist who prefers to keep themselves in relative shadows nowadays, so we tip our hat to it. The producer has already appeared for the Livity Sound massive, a brief but illuminating cameo for their Dnuos Ytivil offshoot that offered two steely slices of tooled-up techno. He's back with another two-tracker, first up with "Jinx" and its reverberated filter of moody 4/4 barely held together by a swarm of percussion and sporadic kick drums - a true bog room joint! "Scanners", on the B-side, is equally cavernous in texture, dipping and rising at a pace that we're increasingly beginning to see as the Forest Drive West standard; this is techno for those who don't like the genre, or better yet, for the DJs looking for a bit more movement in their sets. We love it. This is a keeper.

Show Them (8:18)
Review: The next fresh-faced artist to follow in the footsteps of Batu, Hodge, Bruce and Simo Cell and pass through the Livity Sound School of excellence is the unheralded Forest Drive West. All we know for sure is that Forest Drive West hails from London, and is quite possibly but not necessarily named after a street in Leytonstone. Focusing on this debut release though, Forest Drive West hones in on an approach - long form track length and entrancing progression - that nods more to classic minimal techno than the usual nifty timespan of more 'UK' or 'soundsystem' minded tunes as you would commonly find on Livity. However, the mood is certainly Livity-compatible with its sparse approach to atmosphere and tough rhythmic arsenal. In simpler terms, this is another Livity 12" of A-grade club material.

Renegades
Review: Things have only been getting bigger and better for Jacob Martin of late, and following on from his appearances on Punch Drunk he makes the leap over to Livity Sound's offshoot imprint with two hi-octane rollers that see him further rough up his sound for the dance. There's an exotic thread at the core of both tracks, with the title track in particular ramping up the tension with an ostentatious breakdown that loops a vocal cry over tumbling percussion before dropping down into a magnificently limber bass led throwdown. "Renegades" has something of a calypso tone to its looping synth line and snagging drums, maximising on a powerful deployment of the soca break when the drop comes but keeping everything shot through with that futuristic Livity malaise.

Light Waves (6:17)
Joe Likes To Dance (5:47)
Review: Livity Sound stalwart and all round Bristol hero Hodge returns with more of his fascinating techno derivatives of the bass driven persuasion. Delve deep into the exotic with the ferocious tribal groove of "No Single Things" which starts off the EP in explosive fashion. On the flip, "Light Waves" sees him dabble in neon-lit 80s aesthetics again much like he did on the Forms Of Life and Body Drive EP from last year on No Corner. With its EBM arpeggio and metallic synth textures backed by a rolling lo-end: this one is indeed fierce. Finally, the affectionately titled "Joe Likes To Dance" really nails the label's sound down to a tee: it's a killer!

Tilikum (Hodge remix) (6:07)
Review: Ahead of the release of the Ytivil Dnuos compilation, Peverelist has opted to turn out a 12" that revisits two tracks from the recent past and sheds some fresh light on them. The label boss himself takes "Amor Fati" by Hodge to task, and turns out a delicately poised but satisfyingly weighty version replete with twinkling synth lines and jagged rhythmic incantations. Hodge meanwhile gets to have some fun with Bruce's "Tilikum", and weaves an emotional techno variation out of the component parts that stands amongst his most impassioned works to date, thanks in no small part to the heart-rending sweeps of chord that blanket the peak of the track.

Second Freeze (6:04)
Simple As (5:43)
Review: Speak to anyone on the Bristol scene, and they'll happily tell you that Jacob Martin AKA Hodge is willing to open his studio doors to almost any like-minded soul. His latest collaborator is the similarly productive Randomer, fresh from inspired outings on Clone Basement Series and Dekmantel UFO Series. There's a real energy about A-side "Second Freeze", which slowly builds on waves of punchy, polyrhythmic percussion and creepy noises, before bringing in a similarly bold and speaker-hugging bassline. The talented duo goes ever further in this African-influenced direction of thrillingly percussive flipside "Simple As", where additional drum hits pepper a dense, polyrhythmic groove. It's one of the best drum records we've heard this year, and that's saying something.

Bun So Nude (4:38)
Review: The funny thing about Bristol's Livity Sound is that it manages to take on a new life with each and every release that emanates from its star-studded catalogue. Recently, we had Mosca and Hodge dropping some badness, while Peverelist and Kowton have been holding it down for donkey's years thanks to constant fluxes of new, game-changing bass music. This time it's newcomer I III who delivers the goods, coming through with the wonky steps of "Dolce" at first, a bouncy bit of side-step techno with that inimitably loose UK flow at its epicentre. On the flip, "Bun So Nude" ups the tempo and unleashes a formidable blockade of bleeps that'll have you hypnotised in no time - not to mention that sweet cascade of tribal rhythms too!

Review: Man Band mandem Toma Kami returns to Livity with more sharp tools and insanity, this time in the form of "Negative Extasy". Each cut primed with big roomy broken beats, each cut more beguiling and trippier than the last, each cut rising in intensity; "E-Ache" warms us up with soothing harmonic stabs over a cavernous beat, "Aces" spins us round the stars with housey chords and pretty percussive vapour trails while "Suomi" is nothing short of a 24th century funeral march. For most the title track will be the highlight; more upbeat and bumping, with fat layers of percussion, it's Toma in pure peaktime mode... And everyone's invited.

Mzecal (3:40)
Review: After three years away, Toma Kami returns to Livity Sound with his third EP for Pev and Kowton's inspirational imprint. In keeping with the label's trademark sound, the Paris-based producer first joins the dots between polyrhythmic techno, dub techno and hazy, early morning deepness on title track 'Amapaciante', before opting for a deep dubstep-inspired sound on the even more spaced-out and sub-heavy 'Zone Bruma'. Kami gives his take on West African-inspired tribal techno chug on 'Later To The Bone', while 'Mezcal' is a pleasingly hallucinatory modular ambient excursion. All four tracks are infused with a suitably psychedelic sense of atmosphere, with the percussion programming is naturally up to Livity Sound's usual sky-high standards.

Review: ** Repress from the Livity Sound dons **The Bristol based Livity Sound imprint, run by Peverelist, Kowton and Asusu, is fast becoming a buy on sight label thanks to releases which seem to pay no attention to genre or fads, swerving between raw house, experimental dubstep and swung techno from record to record. This time round it's Kowton's turn to step up, and on the A-Side absolutely rips it up with the track's turn of the century grime strings and savage claps which sound like a more brooding version of Helix's recent drop on Night Slugs. On the flip he strips it right back with a thumping percussive creeper which makes impressive use of the most sparing of elements which would no doubt be best served in the darkest of basements. Awe inspiring stuff.

Iodine (5:46)
Review: BOOM! A brand new Kowton two-tracker on the man's own Livity Sound imprint - is it Christmas? No, its slap bang in the middle of spring, but we love that Kowton plays with our sense of time like that. The Bristol bass engineer has been absent for a little while, so "Pea Soup" feels like a breath of fresh air flowing onto our shelves, especially because it belongs to his very own, inimitable brand of pseudo techno with that noticeable layer of 90s jungle grit. The flip, a tune called "Iodine", is much more steeped in a contemporary Berlin flair, a subtle techno bullet with a dreamy, washy UK bleep artillery riding the crest of its drum beat, and it's yet more proof of the sort of high quality 4/4 that this man can deliver. Class.

Holding Patterns (6:12)
Review: Bristol bass boy turned house expert Kowton deserves no introductions, and the producer really has come a long way in the last five years. This is partly thanks to the development of his own label, Livity Sound, on which he appears herein with two new bullets in his familiar style. "On Repeat" takes over the A Side with a dubby approach that wields a wild collection of sparse beats, airy melodies and considerable levels of bass in its underbelly. The B side, "Holding Patterns" is straighter and less detached - that's not to say we didn't love the A Side - focusing more on the beats, the dancefloor and everything that comes with it. Tough and proper, like always.

Review: Manchester's Lack is back on Livity Sound a year after his last masterclass on the Inside EP. Once again he takes out his scalpel and does some precision work together together UK bass, minimalism, dub and techno. Every track is floaty light yet muscular. The drums hit hard but are also somehow barely there. Floating ambient pads drift next to skeletal jungle rhythms and dark bass hops or lurches beneath the precision drum programming. 'Grapefruit' is a downtempo opener to get the vibe going, then the quiet artistry of 'Microshift' gets the party going, 'Make It Circular' is for the heads at 5am and the fluttering melodies of 'Constant' make a shout for tune of the EP.

Review: Given his long-running friendship with key members of Bristol's vibrant - and distinctive - techno community, it's something of a surprise to find that this marks Leif Knowles' first appearance of Peverelist's Livity Sound imprint. Happily, we can confirm that it was worth the wait. The genius of the EP lies in the unique combination of the long-serving producer's inventive, African-influenced rhythms and deep, rich and life-affirming musical flourishes. Both A-side "Igam-Ogam" and B-side opener "First Image" boast intricately programmed (and impressively layered) drums, as well as either drowsy deep house chords or ear-catching melodic loops. Then there's closing cut "Seeker", which sounds like his take on late 1970s Tangerine Dream.

Peyote Stitch (7:43)
Review: Mosca aka Tom Reid is back for Livity Sound with more of his interesting techno derivatives which sure pack a mighty punch. "Don't Take This The Wrong Way" is without a doubt the most hi-tech that he has ever sounded, bordering on IDM where the beats are broken, the sound design is immaculate and basically what techno should be sounding like 2017. On the flip it is a more organic and restrained affair on "Peyote Stitch" with its slinky bass driven groove supported by some trippy and textured samples: all creating a woozy atmosphere beneath that entrancing bleep melody. Following up some great releases on his own Not So Much imprint, Mosca delves deep into his dub chamber and delivers the goods once again for this defining UK label. Highly recommended!

Livity
Review: Although Peverelist was last spotted with Kowton on Hessle Audio where they delivered the blinding "Raw Code", this new solo outing is the first release for the Livity Sound imprint he runs with Kowton and Asusu in nearly a year. Once again taking on the truncated Pev moniker adopted for his recent Kowton collaboration, "Aztec Chant" continues the producer's recent forays into slower rhythmic terrain, combines the producer's unmistakably dubby breakbeats with an primitive, atonal melody. "Livity" meanwhile recalls his Hessle Audio classic "Dance Til The Police Come," sharing a similarly unhinged, ravey quality bolted together with ramshackle piano chords. TIP!

Review: Any new single from the musical hive mind of Tom 'Peverelist' Ford and Joe 'Kowton' Cowton is cause for celebration, but Signal 3 is particularly potent even by their high standards. The title track is particularly more-ish, with twisted, looped bleep melodies and muffled rave electronics reclining over a typically dubbed-out, bass-heavy, dystopian rhythm. As with much of their material, it's formidably out there, but with enough weight to the spaced-out groove to suggest real dancefloor potential. "Low Strobe" feels a little deeper - despite its' picturesque elements - with some quietly attractive synth chords adding a surprise shimmer to an otherwise thrillingly low-slung techno groove.

Remnants
Review: Ahead of the much vaunted Livity Sound compilation slated to arrive later this month, the label issue this rather tasty platter of screwed-up Bristolian techno from Pev and Asusu. Although Pev & Kowton have worked together extensively under the Livity Sound umbrella, this release marks the first time Asusu has done work outside of the solo realm. The two tracks here show two very distinct sides to the pairing, with "Remnants" typical of the measured dub-leaning approach both have taken with their recent solo material, and the significantly more surprising "Surge", which sounds like what you might get if Throbbing Gristle created the score for an 80s sci-fi movie.

Jam01 (Beneath remix)
Review: Should you ever find yourself in a conversation about remix projects with a cynical soul, any arguments that they are little more than shameless cash grabbing can be brushed aside with the stellar example set by the Livity Sound label. This year's ongoing series of remix 12"s has been superb so far, with Pangaea, MMM and A Made Up Sound all adding their distinct signature to tracks from the Livity Sound trio of Peverelist, Kowton and Asusu and opening the source material up in interesting and exciting new ways. The standards are more than maintained on this third 12" in the series with UK producer Beneath and the LIES pairing Ghost 202 (Morelli and Svengalisghost) reworking Kowton and Pev respectively. Beneath transforms Kowton's mechanical "Jam01? into something with a little more of organic rhythmic swing similar to his own productions, while Ghost-202 turn Pev's "Livity" into the kind of growling industrial monster of a track that you'd expect from Morelli and the ghost.

Review: The Livity Sound label marks something of a departure for Peverelist, moving away from his Punch Drunk homestead to create a sound space more reflective of his personal tendencies in music. The first release suggests this will be a place to visit frequently, on the strength of the alternate mixes he and Kowton have made from a shared pool of sounds. Pev's take stutters and shimmys through dystopian wraiths of melody, while Kowton pares things down with a devastating bass timbre and politely stepped beat, and very little else. For proof of how devastating simplicity can be, look no further.

Review: Since the Livity Sound project and label was founded in 2011, each of it's six releases to date from the triumvate of Peverelist, Kowton and Asusu have helped to establish a collective hybrid sound and approach that's wholly unique to their hand stamped 12"s. Later this year a self titled compilation of Livity Sound material issued thus far emboldened by some unreleased material will arrive on double CD and a pair of the latter tracks from precede it here. Both "End Point" and "Vapours" are collaborations between Pev and Kowton, demonstrating a thrilling extension of the studio dynamic shown on their Hessle Audio release earlier this year. "End Point" sees a tough dubstep-inspired rhythm collide with dystopian synths that sound like they've been ripped straight out of a sci-fi soundtrack, while "Vapours" offers a more stripped back percussive jam filled with palpable low-end pressure.

Erosions
Review: The Livity Sound output has been going strong and 2012 was they year that truly solidified its rank among the top contenders. What's more is that it gave Bristol's Peverelist a chance to properly carve his own sound and demonstrate is tough, techno-dub stance to us all. "Salt Water" has an incredibly deep and meandering beat structure, travelling without care among those freaky, spaced-out chimes - a true Bristol vibe there! On the flipside, "Erosions" takes the same beatdown vibe but places is it in a tougher structure, recalling the sparse and aqueous environments of the best dub techno plates...only much faster!

Review: After a five-year hiatus, Peverelist makes a triumphant return with his latest solo offering on Livity Sound, celebrating its 60th release. Tom Ford's reputation for innovative and sharply-focused club music precedes him and is evident across the four tracks spanning a wide range of tempos. From the crooked formation and pointillist bleeps of 'Pulse I' to the strafing techno synths of 'Pulse III' and the surefooted, bass-loaded house jack of 'Pulse IV,' the E.P. showcases Pev's skillful craftsmanship and infectious melodies. It's a release that's both fresh and unmistakably Pev, sure to leave an indelible mark on club music enthusiasts.

Review: You wait ages for a Peverlist solo EP, and two come along at once. As the title suggests, Pulse Modulation is a partner 12" to the recently released Pulse EP, and continues that release's titling system and subtly eclectic approach. The Livity Sound founder begins with 'Pulse V', where rising and falling, trance-influenced lead lines ride a hissing and a jacking drum machine beat, before peppering a minimalistic, sub-heavy techno groove with spaced-out bleeps on the superb 'Pulse VI'. 'Pulse VII' opens side B via an attractive blend of warped and metallic motifs, deep sub bass, snappy drums and dreamy chords, while 'Pulse VIII' draws proceedings to a close in excitable fashion - think skittish jungle breaks, booming bass and sparse, echoing synthesiser lead lines. Tried and tested treats from one of UK techno's most distinctive musical operatives.

Sitting In The Clouds (7:22)
Afloat (8:17)
Waiting 4 Us (7:08)
Been Here (5:49)
Review: If there's one thing you're not going to accuse Ido Plumes of it's being reductive in terms of arrangements. Balancing offers four distinctly different tracks bonded together by one common theme - complexity, albeit without getting anywhere close to the kind of sonic territories that make dancing akin to presenting a thesis on the psychology of human movement.

From the word go, or 'Sitting In The Clouds', the stall is clearly set out. These are either mutated breaks or ghostly garage, audible edginess born in the darkened corners of some warehouse, basement or other, but with an undercurrent that's pure invitation to get involved. Incredibly useful weapons that nobody is ever going to see coming, and few will be able to work out a way to escape from. Pure Livity goodness, then.

Piste Jaune (5:45)
Review: Having previously used their dnuoS ytiviL offshoot to release material from their nearest and dearest (think Batu, Bruce, Hodge and Alex Coulton), Bristol's Livity Sound crew turns to unknown French producer Simo Cell. The two tracks showcased here are a rather fine introduction to this newcomer, with opener "Piste Jaune" offering a clandestine blend of stuttering electro bass, discordant analogue percussion hits and spooky electronics. The mystery man goes for the jugular on "Cellar Door", with pitched-down, bleep style melodies and liquid electronics riding an off-kilter, broken techno groove. Another fine Livity release.

Review: Frenchman Simon Aussel is Simo Cell, who appeared for Livity Sound's sister label Dnuos Ytivil last year on the rather brilliant Cellar Door / Piste Jaune 12". For his new Gliding EP, he proves that he is right at home on the Bristolian label with his blend of raw, rough and ready broken house jams fitting right in with the rest of the label's aesthetic. Starting out with the rusty shuffle of the deep and dreamy title track, the A side also presents "Obi 1" for something a bit more darker and intense; sonar blips face off with cavernous kicks and sparse, delay drenched percussion: a very paranoid experience. On the flip, the stripped and tunnelling techno tool "Away From keyboard" will appeal to a wide cross range of DJs, until he closes out this fine EP with the lush and immersive ambient journey "As Long As We Have Those Things".

Review: Following her beguiling debut album Draw Me A Silence, Azu Tiwaline continues to join the dots with this four track EP on Livity. Here we find her weaving between dub, techno and her influences from her Saharan homeland. Collaborating with sound artist Cinna Peyghamy, once again Azu wraps us up in a sandstorm of frequencies and textures. Unhurried and spacious yet intense and immersive, each cut takes us deep into the desert from the hypnotic, camel's slouch rhythm and dubby mirages of the opening title track to the gradually unwinding sunset meltdown of "Tessiture". Magnetising.

Review: Livity Sound crops back up again, this time with a little but charming EP made between first time collaborators Azu Tiwaline and Al Wootton. Hailing from Tunisia and London respectively, we hear both cities channeled into each producer's now laser-focused, hotly fused sound world. 'Nine Points' is the EP's refreshingly swaying techno-into-future-garage bit, while 'Last Scene' takes us into dubbier and more ambient backroads.

Review: It's a London meets Bristol thing right here as the Tribal Brothers and DJ Polo go toe-to-toe with some beautiful drumcraft. Sitting between kuduro, UK funky and afrobeat, each of these four club-ready cuts are stripped back to the bare rhythm essentials, honing our focus on different elements. On the opener '12hrs' it's the steel drum shimmers. On 'Three Tribes' it's the raw minimalism and human textures while 'Bullet Rise' is all about the big bulging bass tones. Finally 'The Problem' switches to a halftime, creating even more space and mysticism in the mix. It's high time we all linked up.

Review: A new enigmatic duo from London named Two Shell present Livity Sounds' next installment. Their debut "Access EP" draws influence from the South London underground of the late '90s and early 00's, with a nod to more contemporary Bristol sounds across these four wicked tracks. From the off-kilter stepper that is "Heart Piece', through to the glacial and deconstructed dub techno of "Contactless" and the rolling bass-driven entrancer "SYNC-2020" - they have forged an EP of warm but stripped-down, deft UK style grooves to mark an anthemic debut. More groundbreaking future sounds from the ever reliable Bristol label.

Tempora (5:13)
Review: Via Maris, who mysteriously also calls himself B.Burke, first appeared late last year on the newly founded Mechanical Reproductions, a confident and promising label in itself. However, today is all about Livity Sound, and the fact that they've spotted this young talent. As usual, the Bristol dudes get top marks, both for presentation, and also for having swiped an artist who is perfectly matched to their inimitable sound. Via Maris bursts through the A-side in what is a veritable "Swarm" of bleeps, kicks, aqueous cowbells, and exactly the right sort of grimey swagger. On the flip, "Tempora" clicks its broken, slithering percussion over a bed of hollow sonics, and we have to say that it really is a rather ominous affair. We love it, though. Both tunes. Big up, Livity.

Review: The steady rise of Joe Cowton has been such that Utility, his long-awaited debut album, is arguably one of the most hotly anticipated techno sets of 2016. Happily, it's a fine set, brilliantly showcasing his instinctive way with booming, stripped-back drum patterns, sparse textures, and alien electronics. While there are forays into more house leaning pastures - see the dreamy, metallic shuffle of "Scido" - and cascading ambience ("Some Cats" and "A Bluish Shadow"), it's naturally the album's more bombastic, club-ready stompers that really stand out. These include two subtle reinventions of early British bleep techno ("Balance" and "Shots Fired") that aptly showcase the London-based producer's Northern roots.

Review: Stop the press! Peverelist is back in the game. This is a special announcement for various reasons; first and foremost, the mythical Bristolian hasn't been all too active on out charts as of late, and he most certainly hasn't turned in an album for quite some time. Back on his own Livity Sound stable, the artist's new album, Tessellations, sees the man take a different route to his previous excursions, one that's much more focused on deep tribalism and percussion. The first four segments, from "Burning Sea" to "Sheer Chance Matters" all approach the equation through slightly different lenses; the first two being grounded in ambience of polyrhythmic movement, while the following two mould into a subtle 4/4 flow, but the same ambience is present throughout. This is the same for "Wireframes" all the way to "Plateau", where Peverelist has shaped a new sort of minimalism into his rolling punch of tech-minded bass. Could this be the start of something new? We definitely think so...

Review: There are plenty of surprises dotted throughout Tesselations, Peverelist's third full-length (and first for Livity Sound, the label he jointly runs with frequent collaborator Kowton). For starters, it's a largely positive and melodious affair, with the Bristol producer's usual weighty bass and punchy machine drums - this time veering from clandestine Teutonic techno to sprightly IDM style electro, via a fair few nods to broken beats - being accompanied by ear-pleasing electronics, cascading melody lines, and even a few Head High style boisterous rave riffs. The pacing is superb, too; for every warts-and-all club jam there's another cut that's either contemplative, beat-less or softly spun. The result is a set that shines from start to finish.
