Review: Deep Bulgarian bass delivered on Kelpe's Drut, Migration Pads takes us on a sonic sojourn through some of the dreamier pastures of modern day electronic music. Working neatly as a consistent whole and as a collection of dancefloor ticklers, 1000 Names have maintained a great balance throughout as we're treated to gems like the slo-mo juke joint "Another Beaten Sunday", the cosmic eyelash flutters of downtempo disco cut "Enter Jules Verne", the sludgy, far-out two-step of "Hand-Me-Down-Brain" and the life-affirming rusty-synth chord blasts on "Streets".

Fever
Review: The third album from Dutchman Dave Huismans under his 2562 pseudonym is a musical tour de force from start to finish. Ostensibly a record made from the disco records a young Huismans listened to - the front artwork is a beautiful illustration of this - but were this fact not publicised when the album was announced no-one would have picked it. The overwhelming sonic aesthetic of Fever instead inhabits the murky world between techno and dubstep. The stuttering rhythm of "Winamp Melodrama" is coupled with the tough drum hits, whirring effects and neatly muffled vocal loops of "Cheaters" on the first slab of vinyl, by which stage it's already apparent this album is going to be something a little bit special. Elsewhere the gloopy bass and odd yelps of "Wasteland" and strangely evocative shuffle of the album's title track are among Fever's other high points. It's fascinating to chart the progress Huismans since his 2009 album Unbalance, and, before that, Aerial.

Review: Whether he's producing as 2562 or A Made Up Sound, new material from Dave Huismans is always met with a sense of expectation. Things get magnified further when you consider The New Today is the Dutch producer's first LP in three years under the 2562 name! The landscape has changed considerably since 2011's Fever, but listening to this eight track set you feel Huismans is still marching to his own beat as opposed to following others. Conceived over six weeks in New York last year and committed to tape in his Utrecht studio, The New Today sees the Dutchman draw from past sounds like "European synth experiments, new age tapes, musique concrete, krautrock, post punk" to weave whole new electronic patterns in a manner that sounds so very 2562. In other words, it's fckn great!

Review: 700 Bliss are DJ Haram and Moor Mother, and together they've come together to deliver a guttural take on noise rap. Packed to the brim with fuzz, like gravel clogging a phone line, Haram and Moor's vocal deliveries are clownish and playful, and hear back like mere fragments of thought, pushing against the notion of a sustained narrative. Lafawndah, Muqata'a, Alli Logout and M. Tellez all feature on various vocal and production appearances, while techno is even ticked off on a few Afro-diasporic dance music forays ('Anthology'). A postmodern revisionist history of dance music in LP form.

Review: Out Of Joint record shop chief 8Ball makes his debut on Bristol's Sneaker Social Club, with a brand new full length titled Eleusis. His releases on the Grade10 label (which he runs with mates in his hometown of Leicester) are a celebration of 'the afterparty and are rife in moody atmospherics and post-hardcore references.' A very diverse collection of tracks, ranging from dark ambient on 'Can't Hold On' and the near skeletal dub reductions of 'Equator' on side A, to the deconstructed techstep of 'Many Shapes' on the flip. Elsewhere, there's pure euphoria heard on the ambient hardcore of 'Planetz' and the twisted, bass-driven IDM of 'Tigers Eye'.

Review: Codigo de Barras ('barcode) is the second release on Principe by their homeboy A K Adrix, now based in Manchester. He further develops his mutant batida grooves, broadcasting beats from his new hometown with very succinct rhythmic messages. There's hardly any intros, with the music getting straight to the point, developing new lifeforms yet leaving lasting impressions during their short lifespan. From the ethereal beats of 'Ambiente Spiritual', the off-kilter exotic rhythms of 'Ritmo Surfista' or 'Hotttt' and the wonky aracne bass of 'FILIPADO' - the tracks appear as alien life forms.

Review: Tyler Myroon AKA Abstrakt Sonance has released some of his most potent music since joining Truth's Deep, Dark and Dangerous label, so hopes are naturally high for this first missive for the imprint in two years. Title track 'Ishtar' is particularly potent, with the self-proclaimed "bass music force" wrapping clandestine chords and creepy melodies around punishing dubstep drums and gargantuan sub-bass. The EP's other instrumental cuts, 'Behind Closed Eyes' and 'Nightmares', offer deeper and hazier variations on a similarly bold and aggressive theme, while the two vocal cuts - and in particular opener 'We Nuh Pay', where Killa P, Long Range and Crowell trade verses - sound like future party-starting classics.

Review: Of the many fresh faces that have come to light on Pinch's Cold Recordings, Manchester-based artist Acre has represented one of the most diverse propositions with his spots on Lost Codes (and more recently Codes), but he also has managed to follow label mate Ipman in bridging the gap over to Pinch's original institutional imprint Tectonic. After the Icons EP back in 2014, Acre now steps up with an album which fully explores his unique take on UK bass traditions. There is a lot to take in at first glance, from experimental excursions such as "Spiral" through to winsome beat studies such as "Always Crashing", with plenty of room for moody attitude in a reflection of the ever mutating definition of British soundsystem music.

Review: 50 Weapons indulge Tony Williams's expansive take on current dance culture as Addison Groove. Put simply, Transistor Rhythm looks gorgeous, with design heavily indebted to Williams' clear passion for the Roland 808 and the tracks spread gloriously across two slabs of thick vinyl (there's an even beefier 3xLP version out too!). Musically, Transistor Rhythm explores the same areas of crisp, finely sculpted rhythms that have graced Swamp 81 and 3024 in recent times, with the smart sample usage on tracks such as "Night To Remember" complemented by a clutch of guest spots.

Ain't It Love
Review: Stepping up with his second album for 50 Weapons, Addison Groove is once again mining the rhythmic excitement of juke and footwork and working it into his blue-hued melodic headspace. Standout vocal cut '"Just You" is a prime example of the upbeat flavour across the album, while "11th" matches the plush harmonies with moodier switch-ups, and "The Spirit Level" drops the tempo into a house bump that lends itself to the illustrious synth sweeps. Typically though the beats are in that twitchy middle ground between dubstep and footwork, leaving plenty of space for razor-sharp constructions and dazzling edits as best demonstrated on the dynamic acid roll of "Space Apples". Chaos abounds on the B Side where Developer's frantic side is shown via "Promiscuous" whilst the tightly wound "Pulstar" is quite hypnotic.

Review: In his career thus far Rob 'Airhead" McAndrews has been closely tied to celebrated school friend James Blake; the pair are regular collaborators, McAndrews plays guitar when Blake steps on stage and both are involved in the clubnight/label 1800-Dinosaur. Evidently a talented musician in his own right, the promise shown on some decidedly weird Brainmath material and more recent R&S releases is expanded here on For Years, the debut Airhead LP. The ten track set might finally see Airhead gain recognition without the need to mention Blake; there's certainly an accomplished approach here that focuses on willowy textures and slow builds and owes as much to post rock as it does post dubstep.

Review: It has been almost two years since the Fatima Al Qadiri's debut LP dropped on Hyperdub, and we're as excited now for her follow-up as when we'd heard the first one. This is because Qadiri provides us with everything to satisfy our need states; through an awry and granular sound, the artist is able to transmit a whole spectrum of moods and feelings. This makes Brute an album for anyone, and it can be enjoyed both by the party-goers and the moody corner-dwellers. The intro is a detached sort of skit that distances itself form any sort of shape, but so we're dropped in a post-futuristic world of pseudo grime, broken, detuned techno and tropical electronica. To be honest, there would be no other place for it than the mighty Hyperdub. Big release.

Review: Multidisciplinary artist Fatima Al Qadiri aligns with Hyperdub to release Asiatisch, a keenly anticipated debut album that's described as a "simulated road trip through an imagined China". First coming to prominence on the UNO label in 2011, Al Qadiri has subsequently provoked critical acclaim for the 2012 Desert Strike EP for Fade To Mind that played on her time spent living in Kuwait as a child, while her work under the Ayshay moniker for Tri Angle explored vocals in a unique manner. Asiatisch expands on the political themes of Desert Strike in a new and unexpected way, and acts as a homage to the style of grime known as "sinogrime". Asian motifs and melodies are prominent throughout whilst conceptually Al Qadiri runs through "the fantasies of east Asia as refracted through pulpy Western pop culture". If that wasn't enough to sell you on the concept, opening track "Shanzhai" is a "nonsensical Mandarin" language cover of Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U".

Review: After the barnstorming Dispel Dances long player of last year, Anstam returns with another album of subversive beat science for 50 Weapons, fusing wild sample digging with bold synthesis across a range of tempos. Each new track presents unexpected delights, moving from the monolithic 80s funk stylings of "Hopes Soliloquy" to the schizoid vocal jazz-beat psych out "Me & Them" and then on to the drunken synth warbles of "Hearts Soliloquy". The breadth of ideas that Anstam covers on this LP, as with his last one, is quite staggering, hitting on a rich well of originality with every new tune.

Review: Lars "Anstam" Stoewe has long been part of Modeselektor's extended family of artists, releasing his first two albums on their 50 Weapons label. While those first two sets were characterized by a desire to blend punishing dancefloor rhytms with elements of IDM and dark ambience, Names - his third LP - is a largely more considered affair, with shards of light amongst the gathering gloom. Of course, he's not totally abandoned the skittering rhythms and maudlin basslines - see the sweeping chords and intense beats of "I Stopped Counting" and the rushing post-dubstep blast of "Fragments of the Good Old Days" - but these moments are countered by hazy songs and sweet soundscapes, with the superb "The Obvious & The Impeccable" standing out.

Made up of Iranian electronic composer Pouya Ehsaei and a trio of Cuban musicians (Oreste Noda, Yelfris Valdes and Hammadi Valdes), the quartet makes long, drawn-out workouts that join the dots between contemporary electronica, traditional Cuban music and a touch of Middle Eastern charm. These four tracks on this debut album originated from live jams, where mazy trumpet lines and rolling hand percussion wrap themselves around Ehsaei's intricate, rumba-influenced drum machine programming. It's a blueprint that results in music that's often rhythmically dense and hypnotic, but also haunting, melancholic and strangely intoxicating.

Review: By now, it should be more than well-known that Joe-Armon Jones and Maxwell Owin are two of UK's jazz's most prominent and deserving fixtures, with the former having made a name for himself as part of outfits like Ezra Collective, and the latter for his unique blend of jazz and future garage. Together, they have an unmatched synergy; not staying too rooted in the potential quagmire of jazz alone, Archetype is a critical exploration of genre, as both Armon-Jones and Owin segue through explorations of their favourite non-jazz genres (dub, funk, garage, hip-hop) as "archetypes", paying homage to their infleunce on the music they make now. Guest features from Mala, Fatima, Lex Amor and O The Ghost cement this notion of tribute and versatility, making for a serene and virtuosic albu that best falls under the category of "jazzifyer".

Review: Icelander-in-Berlin and card carrying member of the experimental shape-shifting oqko collective, Astvaldur's debut album enjoys the vinyl attention it deserves. A delicious web of splinters, shards and shadows, the whole body of work tessellates and twists in crazed games of contrasts - the eerie ambient and broken glass drum hits of "Flesh" the stuttering kicks and gurgling bass of "Locked On" and the warped reverse tones and textures of "Rotary Credo" are just three examples of the stark, futurist fusion at play here. Tip.

Review: With his many achievements in the field of true, critical deep house, Aybee has no need to remind anyone just what kind of imagination he has when it comes to crafting music, but he does just that on his latest LP Worlds. Just look to a track like "Landing", which shudders on some alien groove that's part jungle, part broken beat, and all sci-fi. Likewise "Moon's Whisper" plots an unknown course through galaxies of pads, and "What Is" equally revels in a cluster of starry chimes and tones. This is without a doubt an album of cosmic magnitude, carrying the futuristic torch that was passed on from the true techno fundamentalists and taking it somewhere fresh.
