LCR 002 (12")
Cat: LCR 002. Rel: 20 Mar 18
Bass
  1. Kouslin & Cloaka - "Ash" (5:03)
  2. Yak - "Zephyr" (6:06)
  3. Ebb - "Raiders" (5:00)
  4. Kouslin & Cloaka - "Ash" (Bamao Yende remix) (4:40)
Review: A second trip to Kousin's chamber of cats feels long-overdue but there's plenty to dig our claws into here... Kousin takes the lead with Cloaka as they kidnap us and take us deep into the dusky desert wilderness on a bumpy halftime drumset, Yak follows with a much more visceral tribal shaker while Ebb's "Raiders" takes us back to technfunk haven of yore HUM via Detroit. For added pressure Bamao Yende provides a chaotic carnival twist on "Ash". Meow.

  2. Fried (3:22)
  3. Pursuit Of Momentary Happiness (3:25)
  4. Words Fail Me (4:14)
  5. Blinded By The Lies (3:00)
  6. Interlude (1:07)
  7. White Male Carnivore (3:24)
  8. Pay Off vs The Struggle (4:05)
  9. Encore (2:17)
  10. Layin' It On The Line (4:20)
  11. This House Has No Living Room (feat J Spaceman) (8:13)
Review: London alt-rock trio Yak have revealed their much desired follow-up to their debut album, Alas Salvation. With new and old members jostled in and of the band during this album's rocky inception (including Tame Impala's Jay Watson), a rotated cast eventually ironed out its crinkles, and with the help of former Bjork and Django Django album producer, Marta Salogni, Yak's difficult second album, in 10 hectic days, was achieved. With both NME and Q magazine's tipping their nod of approval Yak's way, the steely, blue-eyed defiance of the trio dismiss any notion of the tired cliche that guitar music is a bygone thing. The freshest second album since Kasabian's Empire, Tame Impala's Lonerism and Bloc Party's A Weekend In The City.
