Review: Almost a year to the day on from the release of the first release from their hush-hush Pezzate imprint, dusty-fingered Italian crate diggers Twice and Volcov with more must-have re-edits of suitably little-known gems. Check first the untitled A-side, where one of the two producers (we're not sure who edited what) successfully takes their scalpel to a sparkling slab of synthesizer-heavy jazz-funk brilliance full of two-step drum machine beats, squelchy acid-style electronics, comforting chords and kaleidoscopic lead lines. There's a more deliciously Balearic feel to the flipside edit, which boasts extended jazz guitar solos and elongated synthesizer chords riding a Latin-tinged fusion groove.

Review: Word on the street was that Volcov's edit series was supposed to finish two releases ago in 2010. Clearly gluttons for punishment - and perhaps just a tad inspired to show the current league of editors how to do it properly - Slam Jam return with five more discerningly curated re-cuts. From the frenetic bongo and minor-key chorus warbles of "City" to the 80s Wonder-inspired electro boogie of "Nine", this reinforces Slam Jam's premier position when it comes to both obscure selection skills and creative editing.

Review: Back in 2004 when Volcov aka Isoul8 unleashed the inaugural Slam Jam disco edit 12 inch there was but a handful of like minded labels and individuals such as Black Cock, The Idjut Boys and the ridiculously prolific Danny Krivit. Fast forward six years and the market has become somewhat homogenized. It's in light of such a state that Volcov presents this seventh and final edition of disco edits from his collection. Those lucky enough to have attended the somewhat legendary Garage Paradise night Volcov runs in Bologna with fellow Italian edit don Luca Trevisi will recognise the four tracks here. For the rest of us, it's a last chance to enjoy four obscure disco tracks tweaked for optimum effect. Superb stuff.

Review: Having previously compiled volume four of the long running ESP DJ Classics series, veteran nu-jazz/broken beat type Enrico Crivallaro returns to curate volume 12. As with previous installments, we're treated to a typically soft-focus and dewy-eyed selection of jazz, soulful slow jams, Latin grooves and sunny smoochers. Predictably, there's plenty for the crate diggers to get excited about, from the fluid jazz-funk of Ronny Lapaine's "Side By Side" and smooth '80s soul of Genobia's "All of My Love", to the sunshine disco-soul of LJ Reynolds' "Travellin" and twinkling piano jazz of Judy Roberts' "Watercolours".

Review: Having recently devoted more time to re-edits and compilation work, the DJ/producer known as Volcov re-launches his jazzy and soulful Isoul8 project. The producer's first single under the pseudonym for five years is little less than superb. The EP opens with the KZR Blazed Dub, a wonderfully deep and soulful treat where Paul Randolph's evocative vocal comes smothered in elongated, deep space chords and undulating jazz-house drums. The Delvyn Groove version, rich in jammed-out Fender Rhodes riffs and rubbery live bass, sounds a little like vintage Georg Levin cuts on Sonar Kollektiv, while "Speak Your Word", featuring the combined talents of Osunlade and Rasiyah, brilliantly joins the dots between jazz-funk, deep house and 2000 Black style broken beat.

Review: In recent years, former broken beat and nu-jazz producer Volcov has become better known as a crate digger, record collector and re-editor. BBE has harnessed these skills for From The Archive, a compilation of - in the DJ/producer's own words - "music that I've discovered that I thought would be interesting to share".
