Review: ***B-STOCK: One side of gatefold sleeve has come unglued, but otherwise in excellent condition***

On its initial release in 2003, Ulrich Schnauss' second album "A Strangely Isolated Place" caused something of a stir, with many critics naming it amongst their highlights of the year. Listening back to this freshly remastered edition, it's easy to see why. It was the first time that Schnauss really nailed his now trademark sound, mixing ultra-bright, life-affirming electronic melodies with stirring ambient chords, gentle (but often distorted) beats, jangling guitars, audible nods towards shoegaze and warm basslines that drive the tracks forward. To our ears "A Strangely Isolated Place" remains his strongest album and thanks to Schnauss' smart re-mastering work, it has never sounded better.

Review: For the final part of his epic reissue series, Ulrich Schnauss has taken the chance to re-master and refresh 2016 set "No Further Ahead Than Today", which is now known as "No Further Ahead Than Tomorrow". As with its predecessors, the freshly polished set sounds gorgeous, with Schnauss adding extra sparkle to such positive and life-affirming downtempo gems as "Melts Into Air", the wall-of-sound shuffle of "The Magic In You", the undulating, morning-fresh ambient techno bliss of "New Day Starts At Dawn" and "Negative Sunrise", where Steve Reich style melodic refrains and Pat Metheny guitars vie for sound space alongside chiming melodies, crunchy beats and grandiose, enveloping synthesizer motifs. Even by Schnauss' standards, it's a big-sounding album, but that's certainly no bad thing.

Review: Ulrich Schnauss' re-mastered reissue series continues with a fresh edition of 2007 set "Goodbye", an album that saw him incorporate guitars and vocals for the very first time. Of course, these aren't standard guitars, and the 12 tracks stretched out across the CD draw more influence from the Cocteau Twins and Seefeel than they do rock or indie-pop records. By combining these glistening guitar sounds with his usual gorgeous synthesizers, ambient chords and gentle electronic beats, Schnauss delivered an album that was notably different from its lauded predecessors while still remaining in the same sonic ballpark. While it received mixed reviews at the time, "Goodbye" remains a gorgeous and largely life-affirming set that's well worth further investigation (especially now it sounds better than ever due to some fine re-mastering work).

Review: ***B-STOCK: Torn corners of outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

19 years ago, Ulrich Schnauss became one of the most celebrated new artists in electronic music when he released debut album "Far Away Trains Passing By", a gorgeous and life-affirming set that cheerily joined the dots between IDM, picturesque electronica and shuffling downtempo grooves. As part of his current reissue project (five albums have been given the re-master treatment), Schnauss has decided to reissue it. The main set sounds as alluring and life-affirming as ever, but the real bonus for fans is the inclusion of no less than nine previously unreleased cuts recorded in the same period. These aren't cast-offs or throwaways, either, but rather tracks every bit as good as those that were originally releases.

Review: Ulrich Schnauss spent much of last year re-mastering his catalogue for re-release. On "A Long Way To Fall: Rebound", he's gone one step further, re-building, re-recording and reworking 2013 album "A Long Way To Fall" in order to finally get it sounding the way he's always wanted it to. It was always a fine album of course - a beautiful mix of sparkling, unusual instrumentation, bubbly electronic beats, grandiose themes and sumptious ambient soundscapes - but this 2020 edition sounds and flows even better than the original. This in part due to the crystal-clear clarity and surround sound style mixing, but also down to some of the subtle melodic and instrumental changes employed by Schnauss. If you're a fan, you need this in your life.

Review: Now two decades into his career as one of electronic music's most diverse and interesting composers, Ulrich Schnauss has decided the time is right to offer up a sizable retrospective of his work. Suitable for both confirmed fans and newcomers, "Now Is A Timeless Present: A Retrospective" includes freshly re-mastered editions of three key albums - 2001's "Far Away Trains Passing By" (which is accompanied by a disc of bonus material recorded during the same period), 2003's "A Strangely Isolated Place" and 2007's "Goodbye" - plus extensively re-recorded and reworked versions of two more recent sets, "A Long Way To Fall" (2012) and "No Further Ahead Than Today" (2016). If that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, Schnauss has also included a compilation of "outtakes, demos and fragments".

Review: Before it became fashionable to do so, Ulrich Schnauss was creating the kind of evocative, sun-kissed ambient and electronica that was capable of making the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. No Further Ahead Than Today is his fifth solo full-length, and first for four years. It sees him run through a series of increasingly bold and positive compositions that seemingly leap from the speakers. Following some languid and sun-kissed early moments, the album quickly progresses further towards grandiose, wall of sound territory. Check, for example, the in-your-face chords, spiraling textures and rushing beats of "No Further Ahead Than Today", or the winding, acid-flecked IDM bounce of "Wait For Me".

Review: City Centre Offices champ Ulrich Schnauss undergoes some tidy refixes on new label Script Realities, linking up with some like minded romantic souls within the more meditative corners of electronic music. ASC is in an especially floaty mood on his version, riding a slow and splayed beat in his usual brew of harmonious pads. Arovane turns in two efforts, serving up a beat-driven, soaring symphony and an ambient, shapeless bath of melody. Tycho has a more low-slung, VHS-filtered stomp on the go, of course garnished with plenty of meandering chords and chimes but definitely providing the most grit of all the tracks on offer.

Review: There's something strangely excitable about the material showcased on this latest full-length offering from German electronics boffin Ulrich Schnauss. Rather than being downbeat but beautiful, full of shoegazing chords and mouse-quiet melodies, much of the material is bold, bubbly and surprisingly rhythmic - like he's necked a load of happy pills and let all his inhibitions drift away. Of course, the glistening electronics still shimmer, but the melodies are bolder and there's a lightness to proceedings that belies his snowy, icy past. "A Forgotten Birthday", for example, is near rush inducing in its breathless positivity. It's certainly a positive change in direction, and one that should win him plenty of new admirers.

Review: Over the last 11 years, Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk have periodically got together in the studio to record ear-catching and atmospheric electronic music that frequently prioritises mood and melody over specific sonic traits or stylistic approaches. Eight Fragments of an Illusion, their third album-length collaboration, takes their 'maximal ambient' sound to sun-soaked new places, with Schauss's minimalist melodic movements (think Terry Riley's synthesizer works) and sparkling electronic sounds being overlaid with gorgeous, effects-laden electric guitar textures courtesy of Munk. It's a gorgeous, life-affirming combination that guarantees blissful brilliance throughout. To our ears, there's no doubt that it's the duo's best joint work to date.

Review: Between them as solo artists, London-based producer Ulrich Schnauss and Danish guitarist and producer Jonas Munk have many decades of experience of laying down unique electronic music. They have also do so in collaboration for much of that time, but now serve up their first new record in almost a decade. 'Eight Fragments Of An Illusion' suits the ties in that it is a reflective and thoughtful album of ambient soundscapes and blissed out melodies. The synth float, the guitar patterns drift by like clouds, and the whole record is underpinned by a steady pulse that keeps it, and you, moving forwards.

Review: Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk first got together in the studio at the tail end of the noughties, subsequently releasing the well-received album, Epic. This belated follow-up continues in a similar vein, fusing Schnauss's ethereal electronics and ambient soundscapes with Munk's evocative, shoegaze style guitar passages. It's a combination that works well. Munk's guitars add a loose, raw feel to Schnauss's impeccable but occasionally overbearing compositions, while the latter does a bang up job melding the two things into a perfectly pitched whole. If My Bloody Valentine collaborated with James Holden or Trentemoller, it would probably sound something like this.

Review: Cult electronic fav Ulrich Schnauss has linked up with Engineers founder and Liverpudlian guitarist Mark Peters for this new album, which comes 20 years after he first made his mark. Destiny Waiving is the third and final part of an ongoing trilogy that started back with 2011's Underrated Silence and counted through 2013's Tomorrow Is Another Day. It has been being written for the last four years and is an exploration of progressive melody, star-gazing ambient and lush pop hooks. From foreboding like on 'Clair-Obscur' to optimistic and rushing like on 'Circular Time,' it is a complete work that makes for a proper listening experience
