Thomass Jackson - "El Hihat" (6:17)
Thomass Jackson - "Naive Song In E Minor" (6:52)
Review: Multi-Culti has invited us to join their "Calypso Cult", a shadowy musical organization with two named leaders. First to set out their tropical pagan manifesto is Mexican maverick Inigo Vontier. He first layers trippy, dubbed-out spoken word snippets and whistling synth lines atop a chugging arpeggio groove on "Jubile Is OK", before reaching for the hand percussion, dark electronics and weird noises on heavyweight throb-job "Masicka". Fellow cult leading light Thomass Jackson steps up to the podium on side B. His message is a little hazier and more spaced out, with the hypnotic eccentricity that is "El HiHat" being followed by "Naive Song In E Minor", a wonderful combination of undulating melodies, locked-in tropical percussion and feverish Balearic flourishes.

Head Rejection (Boot & Tax remix)
Review: After kicking off with a strong various artists release, Mexican label Calypso Records returns to showcase the talents of Argentine producer Thomass Jackson, who has previously been spotted on Gomma amongst other labels. "Head Rejection" takes on a ghoulish 1970s vibe that sports a little schlocky horror and a little spaghetti western in its discoid grooves, while "Witzelsutch" feels equally vintage but with a more cosmic lilt to its oddball tones. "Creepy PC" gets more of that noirish goodness lurking around the mix, and then Boot & Tax come on board to remix "Head Rejection" with a heads-down tribal patter that keeps the atmosphere of the original intact.

Thomass Jackson - "Big Plastic Room" (9:01)
Thomass Jackson - "Slow Train" (7:15)
Inigo Vontier - "Jungle Tungle" (6:58)
Inigo Vontier - "Hipocampos" (5:38)
Review: When it comes to heavy chug, Multi Culti has always known exactly where to strike to make the most memorable or - more accurately - inescapable impact. Thomas Jackson's 'Slow Train' is just the latest case in point, then, drawing dancers and listeners alike in with its warm-hued, hypnotic synth lines, stabs and warbles in all the right places to ensure that while not that much happens, you'll be stomping about like everything was going on at once. Far from a one-track-wonder, Calypso Cult II is the label setting out all its stalls with aplomb. 'Jungle Tungle' is a strange, somewhat shrill, constantly building and percussively dominated workout that's tough and yet not actually that tough. 'Big Plastic Room' is peak time acid meets Kraut oddness, while 'Hipocampos' brings things to a beautiful close with beguiling, downtempo sludge.

Thomass Jackson - "Maquina De Bongo" (6:51)
Thomass Jackson - "Lavora!" (6:07)
Plot Pilot - "Babylon" (6:22)
Plot Pilot - "Move To The Nida Beach" (5:48)
Review: The third drop in the Correcciones Calypso series finds the Mexican label turning to regular fixture Thomass Jackson for the A side, where he brings some heavyweight crossover pelters for the ever-broadening tastes of the dancefloor. "Maquina De Bongo" is a fierce percussive throwdown with a chuggy cosmic disco sound that drives crowds into a frenzy, while "Lavora!" follows on a similar tip albeit with a slightly punchier EBM undercurrent. On the flip, Plot Pilot has an equally adventurous sound that draws on freaky synth flourishes and Eastern motifs for a pan-continental trip on a seductively dark tip. "Move To The Nida Beach" slows things down to an insanely catchy, chant-along synth pop pulse.

Thomass Jackson - "Urzsula" (5:41)
Simple Symmetry & Inigo Vontier - "Prayer To The Spiritual" (7:05)
Facets - "Distant Chants" (6:37)
Marvin & Guy - "There's No Matter" (6:38)
Review: The latest joint on Mexican label Calypso brings together a whole host of talented operators tweaking out the traditional structures of house. Thomass Jackson is first up with the loose and freaky robo-disco roll of "Urzsula", a delightfully wild trip through clanging metal pings and wobbles strapped to a solid groove. Simple Symmetry and Inigo Vontier sound more direct with the stomping "Prayer To The Spiritual", although there's also a mystical charge in the track aimed at sending the dancefloor skywards. Facets gets low down and dirty with "Distant Chants" and Marvin & Guy cut up some serious funk for "There's No Matter", completing a set full of curveball club tracks to make heads turn.

Cult Edits 004

Manfredas - "Riddim" (5:44)
Thomass Jackson - "Build The Bridge" (7:03)
Balam - "Lentombi" (6:20)
Inigo Vontier - "Makata" (4:35)
Sano - "Bantu" (5:10)
Review: Thus far, Cult Edits has proved to be one of the most interesting and intriguing rework re-edits series around, with each 12-inch offering an impressive selection of cosmic, exotic and otherworldly reworks. Volume four continues on a similar theme. Manfredas kicks things off with the dirty ragga-house pressure of "Riddim", before Thomass Jackson has his way with a far-out tribal disco chugger on EP standout "Build The Bridge". Mid-'80s electronic Afro-chug is the order of the day on Balam's "Lentombi", while Inigo Vontier's "Makata" is percussive, heavily electronic, weird and undeniably druggy. In comparison, Sano's chant-along Afro-electro number "Bantu" is positively breezy.

Mendrix - "Transitions" (7:51)
Colossio - "Esta En Mi" (5:18)
Thomass Jackson - "Fantomas" (6:26)
Inigo Vontier - "Namaste" (6:38)
Review: It's not often we get an insight into the electronic music of South America, so all hail the arrival of Calypso from Mexico's Inigo Vontier and Argentina's Thomass Jackson. The tracks featured certainly strike a unique chord, with Mendrix weaving a seductive, noirish tale full of brooding guitar and slow ticking drums, while "Colossio" takes on a darkwave tone on the wonderfully creepy "Esta En Mi". The label bosses tackle the B side, with Jackson's "Fantomas" sporting a sharper dancefloor sensibility without ever resorting to obvious tropes. Vontier rounds the EP out with the weirdo boogie throwdown of "Namaste", sure to pique the interest of anyone locked into the sound coming out of the speakers.

Mytron & Ofofo - "Machinenhimmel" (5:18)
Barry Sunset - "Hit The Drums" (5:00)
Thomass Jackson - "Liquido En 33" (6:19)
Medieval Man - "Humble Frodo" (6:17)
Review: The mysterious Medieval Man is joined by Thomass Jackson, Mytron & Ofofo and Barry Sunset on this new split EP from the fledgling Culted label. Their edit series tackles plenty of interesting dark disco source material with beguiling results. The freaky future sounds of Mytron & Ofofo's 'Machinenhimmel' opens up with phased bass and spooky leads. Barry Sunset's twisted sci-fi disco stomper 'Hit The Drums' then takes off to the cosmos and Thomass Jackson twists and turns on loose, jangling percussion that is underpinned by fat bottomed bass. The brilliantly entitled 'Humble Frodo' is a weird and wonderful closer.

Disco/Nu-Disco
Youkounkoun - "Samoarabian" (6:50)
Inigo Vontier - "Transito" (6:11)
Thomass Jackson - "Traccident" (7:01)
Olta Karawame - "Folie Sans Dent" (6:05)
Review: Correcciones Calypso returns from a generous hiatus with the fourth edition of its acclaimed edit series, replete with four re-edits that veer from the subtle to the downright brazen. Thomass Jackson and INigo Vontier invite the French duo Youkounkoun to open proceedings with an insane early 80s edit full of big drums and exotic touches that's been blowing dancefloors all around the world for the past years - and definitely resides in the brazen category, despite a lot of work having gone into it. Olta Karawame make their debut on the series with a powerful, compact edit full of ballsy keyboard riffing and a military-sized kick drum that is guaranteed to have heads banging . To complete the release label bosses Thomass and INigo deliver edits of their own with their characteristic sound, giving this EP maximum a value for money factor and entertainment from start to finish.
