Review: The latest release on Jonny Nash's Melody As Truth label sees Los Angeles-based talent Diego Herrera come forth with a new album under his familiar Suzanne Kraft moniker. It is of course just one of several projects the West Coast artist is involved in (Pharoahs, Dude Energy, Blase being several others) but the overall sunkissed, melodically rich sound he brings to them all make him a perfect fit for Melody As Truth. The seven tracks on Talk From Home were recorded over a few weeks in the winter of 2014, and feature Herrera playing guitar alongside more familiar synth tones in a mood that stays resolutely mellow from start to finish. Its three releases deep for Nash's label now and all of them have been sublime.

Group Time Hate That (5:35)
More Desire (5:42)
Review: Over the last few years, Diego Herrera's releases as Suzanne Kraft have tended towards the ambient and experimental (see his numerous collaborations with Jonny Nash on Melody As Truth for starters), though every so often he'll release an EP that reminds us of his dancefloor roots. The producer's first 12" for Animals Dancing is a perfect example. "Slam" is rhythmically off-kilter and ambidextrous, with skittish, scattergun machine beats providing a distinctive platform for jazzy synthesizer flourishes and ambient chords of spine-tingling warmth and beauty. "Group Time Hate That" sees Herrera wrap restless, all-action bass notes around another leftfield house rhythm, while closing cut "More Desire" is an up-tempo trip into loved-up analogue deep house territory.

Review: Los Angeleno in Amsterdam Diego Herrera aka Suzanne Kraft returns to Jonny Nash's (Gaussian Curve) brilliant Melody As Truth for a second full length entitled, "What You Get For Being Young". Recorded in his new hometown over the course of May 2016, he LP provides some wonderful ambient soundscapes; said to be composed using mainly digital synthesis and creating a musical world to truly lose yourself in. As the label out it best themselves, the album "offers a full immersion into Kraft's ever-evolving world."

DJ Safety Track (7:36)
Burn Me Down (5:38)
Skype (4:50)
Review: In the space of just a few releases, Stuttgart club-turned-label Kitjen has nestled snugly into a position as the latest cult modern day German record label. Sharing a similar ethos and some of the artists associated with Munich's Public Possession and Frankfurt's Live at Bobby Johnson, Kitjen look further afield for their latest 12" and get the scoop on some fresh Suzanne Kraftness. Diego Herrera's star is definitely on the rise and this amusingly-named DJ Safety 12" ranks as some of his best work as Suzanne Kraft. There's an immediacy and vibrancy to the title track that guarantee it becomes an earworm as the year rolls on, whilst "Burn Me Down" and "Skype" are fine B-side curios.

Dead Ringer: Accepted

Review: The inaugural release for the label offshoot of Australian radio show Noise In My Head, 'Tracks For Performance' serves up two new tracks from LA-based anomaly Suzanne Kraft. Originally conceived as a contemporary dance score, these proven body movers are some of the producer's toughest work to date. 'Dead Ringer' finds a snake charmer harmonising with the racket of a metal works factory while 'Ruff Bathers' tries to operate the forklift under heavy sedation.

Review: Back in 2011, Gerd Janson's Running Back introduced many people to the music LA producer Diego Herrera makes as Suzanne Kraft with the Green Flash EP that was as vivid in presentation as it was in tone. You'll be hearing a lot from Diego Herrera this year, with some high profile collaborative releases with Secret Circuit on the way; an album as Blase on ESP Institute and an Odd Numbers hookup with Willie Burns for Rush Hour's No 'Label'. Before all that, Gerd Janson welcomes Herrera, er, back into the fold with this vinyl issue of the Missum CDr that introduced the Suzanne Kraft project back in 2010. In contrast to the disco-tinged house music of the aforementioned Green Flash EP, the seven tracks on Missum take on a more experimental tone, with beats largely absent in favour of some heavily textured ambient soundscapes produced with a Tascam 464 Portastudio four-track recorder.

No Worries

Feel
Review: Since donning the Suzanne Kraft moniker last year, LA-based producer Diego Herrera has proved more than adept at turning out the sort of atmospheric, analogue-heavy electronic music that's darn tricky to pigeonhole. Having previously dabbled in revivalist proto-house and starlight disco-influenced deepness, Horoscope sees him impressively shifting between melancholic analogue deepness (the title track), sprawling proto-house funk ("No Worries"), spiraling analogue electronica ("Ritmo"), Dream 2 Science-ish deep house ("Feel") and touchy-feely nu-Balearica ("Crest"). As if to ram the point home, Secret Circuit and Max D also deliver tasty remixes that defy easy categorization, with the former's subdued analogue disco take particularly impressing. Highly recommended!

Femme Cosmic
Review: It's fair to say Running Back have not put a foot wrong this year with headline releases from Tiger & Woods and Todd Terje complemented by some lesser celebrated but by no means less impressive twelve inches from Marco Passarani, Disco Nihilist and that stunning Son Of Sam reissue. Their latest release sees the focus shift to another under the radar producer in Suzanne Kraft, whose Green Flash EP makes for one of this year's most attractive releases thanks to distinctive green and yellow patterns that adorn the cover art. Tellingly, the music itself proves to be even better, adopting a pleasantly midtempo poise on "Morning Come" with swathes of melodies infused with sunset gradually rising to the fore. This joyous feeling flushes through the rest of the EP with both "Turning" and the title track sounding like Tiger & Woods performing from the deep end of the pool. "Femme Cosmic" provides an excellent finish to proceedings, unfolding from a tinnily reverberant slowed down proto house drawl into some midnight cruise through dubbed out mutant 80s disco boogie.

Review: The second round of crucial pop covers from alt-electronic scene darlings is here to tantalise your memory banks and delight your minds. After a fantastic first volume, this time around Suzanne Kraft has a laid back kosmische pulse at work on "Nordsee", while Minor Science does a brilliantly deconstructed dub out on "Heatwave". Sultan Shakes get somewhat frenetic after that subdued start with the headspinning cover of A Guy Called Gerald, "Oud Ou Ray", Eyedress plays out a raw guitar strumming version of "Girls" and Geller & Kaya do a remarkable job recreating chart-topping 80s funk on "Wham Dub".

Review: Downtempo dream team Jonny Nash and Suzanne Kraft join forces once more for another excursion far out to sea. Their ambient soundscapes are as lush as they come and are the perfectly transportive sounds we need right now. From mellow and melancholic piano chords to meandering synth lines there is lots to get lost in here, always with a real sense of slowly unfolding narrative and deep sense of immersion. The tenderness of this duo seems to know no bounds as they continue to find truly moving beauty in the most minimal of compositions.

Review: Given the increasing number of shared releases by Jonny Nash and Suzanne Kraft, it was probably inevitable that the pair would eventually join forces in the studio. Predictably, this first collaborative album for Nash's Melody as Truth label is a woozy, intricate and evocative ambient treat. Largely built around plucked notes of Nash's guitar, blissful synthesizer lines and occasional heartfelt piano flourishes, it largely feels like a cross between 1970s ambient material and more contemporary beat-less electronica. In other words, it combines elements familiar from their separate solo project to present something that sums up both artists' approach to ambient composition.

Jonny Nash - "Cristina & Carolina" (4:16)
Suzanne Kraft - "Roberto & Giovanni" (3:47)
Review: Jonny Nash's Melody Is Truth label has barely put a foot wrong to date, with the ambient imprint serving up a steady stream of atmospheric, sun-kissed treats. The label's latest missive marks its' first foray into the 7" market, and contains a track apiece from Nash and similarly minded artist Suzanne Kraft. While the latter's woozy, melancholic and gently whistling "Roberto & Giovanni" sounds like a brilliant cross between Peter Gabriel's "Mercy Street" and the producer's own take on ambient, it's Nash's A-side, "Cristina & Carolina", that really impresses. Full of his trademark, lilting mid-western guitar lines, echoing audio textures and shuffling, bossa-influenced beats, it's nothing less than audible sunshine.

Review: They say good things come to those who wait. Suso Saiz has been waiting more than a generation for Suzanne Kraft to come along and re-contextualise his work. Finally, then, acclaimed new age guitarist who emerged through the La Orquesta de las Nubes and Musica Esporadica projects, meets his match with the precise but organic sound designs of one of electronic music's finest contemporaries, and the result is magnificent.

The whole thing feels like it should be heard in some kind of sensory deprivation tank - floating on the water's surface, blissfully allowing the drones, tones, chords and loose harmonies to wash our minds. Of course work like "Beloved Din" comes with more of a determined impact, its tribal drums and woodwind accents creating an otherworldly vibe, or at least a sense of the exotic. For the most part, though, this is lush, tranquil, mystical and wholly inviting stuff.

Review: Now on to volume six, Dekmantel's 10th anniversary 12" series has been packed with must-have material. While all the EPs have been extremely strong, content-wise, this volume may yet be the best yet. For starters, it boasts a wonderful chunk of jazzy-but-ghostly deep house from Amsterdam scene founder Awanto 3, as well as a fine piece of loved-up deep electro from Voyage Direct boss man Tom Trago. You'll also find a sneaky tribute to the intergalactic deep house loveliness of Larry Heard's "Alien" album by Suzanne Kraft ("Moving"), and a jaunty floor-filler from Young Marco that boasts steel drum style melodies, layered percussion and an attractive synth bassline.
