Dekmantel 10 Years 09 (heavyweight vinyl 12" in die-cut sleeve)
Cat: DKMNTL 10YEARS09. Rel: 28 Feb 18
Techno
  1. Bufiman - "Hymn To The Moonface" (Break mix) (9:20)
  2. Betonkust & Palmbomen II - "Onrust Bij Tihange" (5:00)
  3. Space Dimension Controller - "Hindsight '92" (4:57)
  4. Lena Willikens - "Neue Obakel" (6:28)
Review: For the ninth series of Dutch powerhouse Dekmantel's 10 year celebrations they have quite a compelling assortment of tracks, however diverse they are. On the A side we have the Salon Des Amateurs affilated Jan Schulte aka Bufiman serving up yet another oddball groove in the form of "Hymn To The Moonface" (Break mix) an almost new jack swing sounding jam crammed full of lush FM synth textures to boot. We should mention now that colleague and fellow SDA resident Lena Willikens appears later with the spooky and steely brooder "Neue Obakel". The '80s vibe continues courtesy of lo-fi house hero Palmbomen II (with a bit of help from Betonkust) on the neon-lit "Onrust Bij Tihange". On the flip is Irish hi-tech soul merchant Space Dimension Controller with our favourite of the bunch: he takes you deep into the cosmos with his emotive journey "Hindsight '92".

Review: ** R&S REPRESS **Ever since his early releases on Kinnego and Royal Oak, Jack Hamill has been earmarked as a serious talent. Certainly, his work as Space Dimension Controller - in-tune with modern trends but seemingly beamed down from another planet - has rarely been anything less than inspired. This much awaited full-length album is similarly thrilling. Soaked through with his usual intergalactic sounds, heart-tugging melodies and warming chords, it's a much warmer and involving set than his previous work for R&S. Crucially, it also drifts off in disparate directions, offering a nod and a wink to Tangerine Dream, George Clinton, Model 500 and '80s soul along the way.

Review: Forever ambitious and eccentric in his output, Space Dimension Controller presents The Pathway To Tiraquon6, a double twelve inch prelude to the full debut album promised next year. Preceded by an exquisitely detailed press release that explains the concept behind the music, you don't really need to read it to fully engage in what is a sumptuous ride through cinematic hi tech jazz. The ease with which the Belfast Sun Ra veers between twinkling soundscapes and heavily compressed, jerking techno ("Usurper" being a certified highlight) is naturally very impressive and bodes well for the album proper, which is given a sneak preview in "Closing Titles".

Review: Space Dimension Controller returns to Clone's Royal Oak series in style with the first of five Correlation releases! It was back in 2010 that the then-emerging Space Dimension Controller first landed on Clone's Royal Oak imprint with Journey To The Core Of The Unknown Sphere; since that landmark release the Belfast born producer's career has taken off with successive EPs on R&S which ultimately led to this year's concept-heavy debut album Welcome To Mikrosector-50. Correlation#1 retains the intergalactic motifs that have become a Space Dimension Controller trademark, however the five tracks here find Hamill focusing on a straighter dancefloor approach akin to his earliest releases. His one concession to conceptual themes manifests itself visually with Hamill producing a series of prints relating to the mood and colour of each track. One print has been randomly inserted into each of the records included in this first pressing.

Review: In the space of two brilliant EPs and a digital-only album. All released within the last 18 months.Space Dimension Controller has become one of the most talked about artists in electronic music. This six-track EP for R&S Records looks set to cement his reputation as one of electronic music's most distinctive talents.

'Temporary Thrillz' is his most epic release to date, both in terms of scope and scale. It expands on themes previously explored, effortlessly joining the dots between deep house, Detroit techno, 80s soul, P-funk, space disco, IDM and classic 90s ambient house. Hamill's genius is moulding his disparate influences into something truly unique. For example 'Kaleidoscopic Ecstasy' sounds like an MDMA-influenced P-funk slow-jam as played by love-struck robots with a passion for Detroit Beatdown.. Even Hamill's most 'traditional' sounding house/techno cuts. See the title track and 'Transatlantic Landing Bay' feel like they come from another planet. Believe the hype: this is truly something very special indeed.

Review: Last year's first Correlation EP was something of a return to form for Space Dimension Controller. While his debut album Return To Mikrosektor-50 was arguably a little too eccentric, Correlation #1 saw Jack Hamill return to what he does best: namely making inspired, spaced-out house and techno tracks blessed with those trademark, ambient-inspired synth melodies. Happily, there's more of the same here. There's an attractiveness to the alien bleeps and delay-laden groove underpinning the brilliant "Angel Groove", while "Monodynamic" is gloriously wide-eyed - all surging melodies, cosmic effects and unfussy analogue grooves. Closer "Down in Sector H" is good, too, in that oh-so-blissful way that marks out Hamill's best productions.

Review: The Space Dimension Controller has landed for another round of Correlation explorations on Clone Royal Oak. Take us to your leader? Nah. Just play us some of your newly discovered space oddities, we say! There's some real deepness to be found in other parts of the universe, as the high tech soul of "Galactic Insurgents" proves. As does "Scatter Scanners" which throws in some seriously funky e-bass and new jack swing influence. The further discoveries are astounding: On the B side "The Trails You Left Behind" is some seriously inter-dimensional electro funk that'd make Gerald Donald stand up and notice, while the haunting "Nova Project" is a dark cinematic cut reminiscent of John Carpenter.

Review: While Jack Hamill's Space Dimension Controller project is best known for mixing colourful electrofunk synths with intergalactic ambient, techno and hypnotic house influences, his earliest musical output trod a slightly different path. His long forgotten, digital-only debut album, 2009's Unidentified Flying Oscillator, explored IDM and woozy electronica, and it's these styles that come to the fore on Orange Melamine. Like that debut album, this set - his first for Ninja Tune - was recorded in his bedroom, aged 18, with a collection of "cheap, lo-fi" and "battered" kit. It largely takes its' cues from the likes of Boards of Canada and ambient-era Aphex Twin, but retains that distinctive vibe and attention to detail that's always marked out Hamill's work.
