Review: Cartulis Music - run by Raphael Carrau and Unai Trotti out of Hackney - returns with Santiago Uribe for the label's eighth edition after previous releases by Trotti, Z@p and Reade Truth. The Montevideo Electric Recordings main man delivers a riveting selection of tracks on the Hacia Otro Norte EP, all taking their cues from hi-tech soul and sounds of the Motor City. From the rather John Tejada sounding "Normal", the deep Drexciyan electro of "Lessismorelke" to the frantic "IDT" going for that old-school techno vibe similarly pursued on labels such as Libertine or Art Of Dark at the moment - this is hot!

Review: On his first EP of 2019, Santiago Uribe continues to mix and match house, techno, electro and tech-house sounds in thrillingly entertaining new ways. It's consistently tricky to pin down exactly what the Uruguayan producer is up to, though the results are uniformly impressively. Check, for example, the lo-fi alien electro-funk of "Viste Cuando Todo", the cheeky South American take on UK bleep techno that is opener "Montevideo Electric Sound" and the tipsy, bleep-fired acid house chug of "El De Los Vidrios". "Buseca Sin Vino Tinto", a bounding, bass-heavy jog through tech-tinged peak-time house madness, is also rather good.

  1. 24-25 (6:16)
  2. X2 (6:29)
  3. Zazzia (7:09)
Review: For the fourth release on his nascent label, Frankfurt-based Baba Osman has turned to two producers still finding their feet: debutant collaborators Nicolas Etorena and Santiago Uribe. There's much to admire on their first EP, not least fine opener "24-25". A bouncy peak-time roller propelled by raging acid bass, ear-pleasing bleeps and chunky house drums, it perfectly sets the tone for a 12" rich in nods to vintage UK techno. This is particularly evident on X2, where early hardcore breakbeats and a gargantuan sub-bass line are peppered with metallic chords and early Warp style bleep melodies. You'll find more heavy, LFO-influenced sub-bass and the more straight up bleep techno snappiness of B-side "Zazzia".
