Tim McAllister - "Rollin'"
Cratebug - "Get Up Move Your Body"
Rahaan - "Buari Traxx"
Review: It's a family affair as Grimy returns with heat from the windy city known for amazing dance edits. Tim McAllister takes it out the gate with "Rollin'", a classic soul/disco beater replete with joyous flute trills, Leslie speaker efx and a pumping house kick. In-demand newcomer Cratebug's "Get Up Move Your Body" is a spacious, cosmic edit of a little-remembered Canadian gem. The song ends with an intuitive synth jam that will be enjoyed by DJs and home listeners alike. Longtime Grimy associate Rahaan ends things with a bang. His largely original "Buari Traxx" mixes Ghanaian rhythms with killer disco bass and the nuanced, tracky drum programming you could find on a DanceMania record. The brilliant track is built for the floor and also serves as an apt transition into Grimy Trax, a sister label that will release all new music. Chicago's still burning.

Move Out The Way
Super Transfer
Blue Line
Review: Edit king Rahaan makes a connection with the ever-prolific Lumberjacks In Hell, and he's sounding feisty on growling lead track "Move Out Of The Way". Dirty, distorted drums and simmering acid gurgles make for a perfect seedy dancefloor lube, setting the scene for the more forthright jack beat styles of "Super Transfer". Keeping the fuzzed out Chicago styles at the forefront, "Blue Line" swoops in at the end like some long lost Trax off-cut with all the grit and guts you would expect from the earliest days of pure, electronic house music.

Sweet Stuff (Rahaan edit)
You Got The Right To Dance (Rahaan edit)
Review: **Repress** Chicago disco legend Rahaan gets busy with two on-point edits for the long running Disco Deviance label. "Sweet Stuff" is Rahaan's take on Nino Tempo & 5th Avenue Sax. Warm chords, wheezing horns and a lolloping groove that builds and builds from smooth soul to straight up jazz funk. Flip for "You Got The Right To Dance", a fizzy take on Muzic Box, the horns are buried deep under an array of disco FX and heavy reverb while the vocals cut through with syrupy charm. Show stopping.

Flip Side
War I Declare
Review: The excellent Lumberjacks In Hell imprint has served up some fine edits in its short lifespan to date, most notably from Chicago's Mutant Beat Dancer Traxx and the label's latest release turns to two other Windy City residents renowned for their collections and skills. Rahaan needs little introduction for the disco loving community with essential drops on Stillove4music, Disco Deviance and more, whilst Mr Sounds runs the excellent Bring The Heat website. This twelve is all about the A Side "Rainin Bleeding Boy" which puts a well loved UK EBM couple through the dub laden beatdown grinder - though DJs will get plenty of mileage out of both tracks on the B Side with "Flip Side" some supremely chopped up disco funk and "War I Declare" a stomping and heavily filtered bomb.
