  1. Snake In A Hat (6:56)
  2. Pirate Of The Lost Ark (6:44)
  3. Forget The Rest (7:39)
Review: Indie-disco-house hero Moscoman is back with Snake & Pygmy; the second release for his new Treisar imprint. Given the trend for melodramatic journey tracks as popularized by labels like Life & Death, the man from Tel Aviv delivers an interesting (piss) take on the sound with his rather dark dancefloor drama of "Snake In A Hat" although it could just be a strange coincidence. It's more like the oddball producer we know on the woozy and cosmic slow burner "Pirate Of The Lost Ark" up next on the flip; full of trippy arpeggios, woozy synth leads and what sound like some live drums: nice touch. Finally "Forget The Rest" goes for some nice Middle Eastern disco vibes that merge with house beats and ample use of the cowbell; never such a bad thing.

I Ran (12")
Cat: DH 014. Rel: 21 Mar 18
  1. I Ran (8:25)
  2. I Ran (Simple Symmetry remix) (6:47)
Review: Given that this is Moscoman's first solo single on the Disco Halal imprint he inaugurated in 2015, it's perhaps unsurprising that he's saved something rather special for the occasion. "I Ran" is a throbbing, high-octane peak-time treat, where haunting Arabic vocals seemingly float over a thrusting, arpeggio-driven groove and bubbly, off-kilter machine drums. It's druggy and intoxicating, of course, but also fiendishly heavy and pleasingly unorthodox. On the flipside, old pals Simple Symmetry re-imagine "I Ran" as a sticky and trippy chunk of organic Arabic dub disco, complete with toasty bass and razor-sharp electric guitars. It's not quite as thrilling as Moscoman's original version, but it's a close run thing.

Rite EP (12" Nachpressung)

  1. Rite (8:15)
  2. Rite (Disco Halal mix) (7:46)
  3. Chumbai (7:33)
  4. Rubab (8:02)
Review: Disco Halal's latest release pairs boss man Moscoman with Ukranian producer The Organism - last seen releasing on Dushe in 2014 - for a four-track trip into Middle Eastern cosmic disco/electronic house fusion. The whole EP is as heady and intoxicating as you'd expect it to be, with title track "Rite" - all druggy, hypnotic synth-bass, delay-laden tribal percussion hits, gravelly scat vocals and mind-altering electronics - brilliantly setting the tone. The accompanying Disco Halal remix re-casts it as an off-kilter chunk of Turkish electrofunk/cosmic disco fusion, while flipside opener "Chumbai" is a suitably psychedelic and trippy slab of exotic nu-disco. Closer "Rubab", meanwhile, is jackin' Arabic house with added Middle Eastern rave stabs. Really.
