Review: Lost In Time has laid down some killer 12"s to date from the likes of Ralph Lawson and Tuccillo, and now they welcome London-based scene staple Alex Arnout to the label with an on-point EP of explorative house music variations. "No Borders" features long time US house veteran Jovonn, and the pair whip up a tracky tech house roller with serious percussive pressure and a subtle lick of dub in the mix. "Downtown 500" is a rough and tough, bashy house jam with a fresh drum palette, and by contrast "Riddim" brings a straight up deep house vibe with classic organ licks aplenty, that almost sound like they should be the handiwork of Jovonn as well. "Jam The Dance" finishes the EP off with a twitchy house cut peppered with vocal slices.

This fourth volume in its BND Project series welcomes four more venerated names starting with Marc Cotterell whose 'Deepha' (Plastik Factory Vox mix) is all warm, smeared chords and 90s vibes, while Matt Gillespie's 'Movin' is more stripped-back to sustained pads and shuffling, dusty drums that soon get under the skin. Review: There aren't many outposts in Europe quite as deep as Dubbyman's Deep Explorer, while the selector himself is well versed in communicating with the soul. Here on The Remix Capsule it's deep, soulful overload as Jersey Real Estate and Ex Friendly both get the remix treatment from the label boss, with both cuts featuring life-affirming musings from Jovonn and Rich Medina respectively. "What Is House" is the most blissful of trips, all sumptuous pads and keys drifting into eternity while the beat listlessly rolls out on a refined consortium of bongo drums. "Journey Man" is a more punchy track (well, by Dubbyman standards) as the synths look more upwards and the beat sports a funk injection that should make it work on smoother dancefloors.

Review: Nu Groove is of course one of the foundational labels when it comes to house music. From the late 80s and through the 90s, the New York imprint put out some of the genre's most definitive deeper sounds. Carrying the torch for that sort of quality today is Jovonn who never fails to cook up classy grooves. Here we're treated to 'The Piano Fix' which plays with a lead piano line throughout and layers up subtle acid over the simple but effective drums. A Return version is more funky and then 'Let Me Tell You Somethin' is more playful house on the flip. 'Drop That Traxx' shuts down with laidback house perfection.

Review: Although born and raised in Brooklyn, Jovonn never released on Nu Groove in the early '90s, choosing instead to set up his own imprint, Goldtone Records. Given the richness and quality of his deep house sound, it's nice to see him finally debut on the revitalised NYC label. He hits the ground running with the rubbery, warehouse-ready rush of 'Raise Up (Raise Up High)', where dreamy chords and tight organ stabs emerge from behind a killer bassline and hypnotic house beats, before opting for a warmer and more relaxed, classic-sounding NYC deep house vibe on 'Sunday Ride'. Over on the flip-side, 'What' is a toasty, sun-splashed slab of summery deep house brilliance, while 'Let The World Dance' sees him cannily combine angular, early LFO-style synth bass, immersive chords, bleeping melodies and crunchy drum machine beats.

Review: Jovonn is a house mainstay. His take on the deep stuff is second to none. He opens up this new one on Body N Deep with a stone cold anthem in the making. It takes an iconic flute and vocal from St Germain and pairs it with a surging groove and delicate keys that will pump both big festival crowds and heady basement parties alike. 'I Am Man' is a floaty-light grove with skip in the kicks and spiritualism in the warming pads. The third and final track is yet another vibe entirely - pumping, pulsing, steamy house music with a spoken word vocal and smeared chords that bring the heat. Superb.

Review: Jovonn's "Hesperia Soul" first landed back in 2018 and instantly became a classic amongst deep house lovers thanks to its enriching violin leads. Now it comes again with various remixes from perfectly picked artists: the first is Kaytronik who dubs things out but doesn't take away from the magic of the violin, then Sean McCabe rebuilds it on more bubbly and rubbery house drums that will work bigger crowds into a lather. Last of all is David Anthony's Afrohouse remix which has chunky drum programming and a darker, more menacing bassline. Those violins still manage to steal the show, though.

Review: Real proper house music from the legendary Allen Jovonn Armstrong. Originally released in 1995 on New York City's Kult Records, "Satisfied" is a true classic from the underground for those who know. We're loving the standout Moodyfied mix: a stripped down, moody back room dub that begs to be played in a dark basement, while on the flip it's all about the soulful and emotive swing of "I'm Waiting". The rather pumping "After Life" which perfectly captures the zeitgeist of the early '90s sound coming out of The Big Apple is rather good too.

This surprise retrospective on Clone Classic Cuts showcases many of Jovonn's productions for the imprint, joining the dots between the supple grooves and heady melodies of "Flutes (185th Street Mix)", and the intense percussion and tribal yelps of "Back To House (Jovonn's Classic Goldhouse Mix)".

Review: Apollonia continue to welcome some legendary names into their prospering discography, but whilst Kerri Chandler's recent contribution took the form of a much needed reissue of Sunday Sunlight this appearance from Jovonn offers the NY house icon the chance to demonstrate how his production renaissance is faring with some all new material. Apparently an inspirational figure to the Apollonia trio of Shonky, Dan Ghenacia and Dyed Sondorom, Jovonn really needs no introduction for anyone who has a keen awareness of house music history and The EP demonstrates he still knows how to put together a dancefloor bomb. Specifically "Trippin Body 'N' Deep Vox (mix)" which in original and dub version offer a masterclass in rolling house music, whilst sandwiched in-between is "The March" which is Jovonn in a deeper mood.
