Review: Of all the many cutting edge and pioneering records put out by the iconic Black Jazz label, Doug Carn's is one of the most well known and widely acclaimed and now it gets a reissue on Japan's P-Vine. Although everything he did turned to gold, this one reached even more impressive heights with Doug himself at the helm of the composition on the 1973 release. It sees him integrate Jean Carn's majestically soulful and heavenly vocals deeper into the music which was so stylishly delivered by trumpeter Olu Dara, bassist Walter Booker, and drummer Ira Williams. The standout track will always be the rapturous 'Power & The Glory' but all the rest are frankly just as good.

Was That All It Was
Don't Let It Go To Your Head
Review: 2 of Jean Carn's best tracks for Philadelphia! Both cuts show Jean at her soulful best with the kind of perfectly sensitive backing that Philadelphia International gave her, which mixed jazz and soul, augmented with a nice clubby groove to keep things pumping. The single's a must-have for fans of smooth 70s dancefloor tracks and it's pressed up nice and loud by the folks at Expansion! Re-release of a classic.

Philadelphia International Classics: The Tom Moulton Remixes Part 3
Cat: PIR 2019003. Rel: 13 Mar 24

Disco/Nu-Disco
The O'Jays - "This Time Baby" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:53)
The Futures - "Party Time Man" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:11)
Jean Carn - "My Love Don't Come Easy" (A Tom Moulton mix) (10:45)
The Jones Girls - "Nights Over Egypt" (A Tom Moulton mix) (9:13)
Review: Philadelphia International Records continues to dip into its bulging archives and offer up double-packs containing some of the finest 1970s remixes from remix pioneer Tom Moulton. As you'd expect, there's plenty to get the juices flowing and the heart pounding on this third volume in the series. Record one opens up with Moulton's epic version of the O'Jays' "This Time Baby", a swirling Philly Soul classic that later became a favourite of sample-loving disco-house producers and disco re-editors, and continues with his sugary but floor-friendly version of the Futures' "Party Time Man". Over on record two, Moulton's inspired extension of Jean Carn's seductive "Love Don't Come Easy" is followed by his must-have version of the Jones Girls' "Nights Over Egypt".
