Electro
  1. Alma Construct - "Drive Your Vehicle" (4:52)
  2. Alma Construct - "Escalation 2" (4:39)
  3. J Wiltshire - "Decision Day" (4:03)
  4. J Wiltshire - "Hydrophony" (3:53)
Review: Josh Thompson (Alma Construct) and Vocalist/DJ/Producer Jacob Wiltshire inaugurate Super Hexagon with some cutting edge electro sounds. On the A side it's all about the former, who last appeared on the legendary R&S in 2014. "Drive Your Vehicle" is brooding darkside beats with all the dusty vintage flair of analogue machines. Followed by the breakneck speed and rapid fire arpeggio of "Escalation 2" sounding like classic Dopplereffekt (yes) or Aux 88. On the flip Wiltshire serves up the beat repeat madness of "Decision Day" which is more uplifting than the previous side with a nod to classic Ed DMX or Japanese Telecom. "Hydrophony" is more funky yet mysterious, finding the soul in the machines to interesting effect.

  5. Retape - "Mysteron1" (2:54)
  6. J Wiltshire - "Emporium" (3:07)
Review: In typically techno fashion, Berlin crew Mindcolormusic is keeping tight lipped about their latest multi-artist missive, presumably preferring to let the music speak for itself. That's probably a wise move, because there's plenty of electro gold amongst the six scintillating tracks on offer. We're particularly enjoying the fizzing, Drexciya-style assault of Retape's "Mysteron 1", the wild, mind-altering braindance madness of J Wiltshire's "Emporium" - think D'Arcangelo after a few too many glasses of cheap orange squash, and you're close - and the classic Detroit electro pulse of Robert Hect and XY0815's fine EP opener, "Igriegia05". That said, some of the deeper and melodious offerings tucked away elsewhere on the EP are also well worth a listen.

Electro
  1. Large Mammals (5:15)
  2. Existential Energy (3:59)
  3. DX Hell/HVN (4:37)
  4. No More Knives (5:34)
Review: It would be fair to say that Super Hexagon is Leeds' main night when it comes to the darker side of house and electro. Sure, the music is played week in and week out on plenty of sound systems, but this crew like to focus on those sounds exclusively... and they know just how to deliver the goods! They've snatched up UK electro producer, J.Wiltshere, who we've come to recognise as an impressive new talent on the streets thanks to a pair of releases for the mighty Hypercolour. SH003 is the third instalment of the imprint, and "Large Mammals" gives the EP a worthy kick-start thanks to a raucous blend of gunshot percussion and metallic bass knots, which is further explored on the vicious bumps of the acid-ridden "Existential Energy". "DX Hell/HVN" takes a more laid back approach to the electro bruisings, coming through with a blissful techno groove filled with raw percussion patterns, while "No More Knives" surprisingly meanders in an ambient zone, bereft of any beats at all but primed with plenty of contained energy from the same industrial space as its siblings.
