Techno
Bobby Champs - "Krenshaw" (J Tijnn drum tool)
West Norwood Cassette Library - "Drop" (Knowing Looks remix)
Kevin McPhee - "In Circles" (Kamikaze Space Programme drum tool)
J Tijn - "Flat" (West Norwood Cassette Library remix)
Review: Issued back in late 2012, the first volume of We Are Family signalled the West Norwood Cassette Library's expansion from the 10" format to the 12" format and did it in style with cuts from Don Froth, Milyoo, label boss WNCL and Knowing Looks. Since then, Bob Bhamra's label has really stepped it further with 12"s from J Tijn, Spatial, Kevin McPhee and the excellently named Kamikaze Space Programme. It seems about the right time for a second volume of We Are Family and this 12" sees cuts from Bobby Champs, McPhee, J Tijn and West Norwood Cassette Library getting the remix treatment. The Drum Tool refix of McPhee's "Circles" from Kamikaze Space Programme and West Norwood Cassette Library's Remix of J Tijn on the B Side are proper!

HEHF (6:05)
Fat Controller (4:43)
Malaria (5:28)
Decimated #8 (3:41)
Review: London young gun J Tijn is back: look out! In such a short time this guy has fast made a name for himself with some killer releases on Pennyroyal, Power Vaccuum and Bedouin. This time it's for WNCL Recordings and has four cuts of tough and rusty techno for inner city basement parties. Starting off nicely with the deep vibes with "HEHF" but it's no more Mr. Nice Guy after that. "Fat Controller" is a harsh, overdriven drum track whose kick and toms will properly rattle your speaker, but not before its high hats cut right through them. It's more of the same on the flip with "Malaria" whose wacky bird call melody will get some hands in the air at peak time. Finally "Decimated #8" is another awesome drum track with the most raw and vintage high hats and claps this side of a L.I.E.S. or Opal Tapes release.

MOR
MOR (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: BDN 005. Rel: 16 Jun 15

Techno
Kanon VIP (4:46)
MOR (5:26)
Shy (4:58)
Review: Hard techno advocate J Tijn is next up to supply Bedouin with a heavy hitting package of industrially charged techno entitled MOR. London-based producer Jesse Kuye first surfaced as J Tijn on WNCL in 2013 and since made his way onto Untold's Pennyroyal and the glorious Power Vacuum label. MOR has been a long time coming (it was initially due in January) but it's been worth the wait if you like your techno to sound like a smack in the chops! Lead track "Kanon VIP" best typifies that approach, a dense bassline throbs away unpredictably like an agitated wasp as Kuye lays down the drum machine pain. The title cut seems inspired by the Rotterdam school of sewer techno whilst "Shy" is anything but with Kuye going full speed ahead on the dirty synths and raw beats.

Techno
Yearn
Innart
Nuke
Review: UK artist J TIJN continues his endeavours to redefine the very meaning of tortured, visceral techno with another release on Untold's no nonsense Pennyroyal label. If you've caught recent J TIJN contributions to Power Vacuum or Oversee Assembly, you should be well aware of the levels of intensity the producer is currently operating at, though this three track release should still come brandishing a warning! It's "Yearn" that packs the most immediate punch, with Pennyroyal themselves claiming it's like being "creeper massaged by the wet knuckles of every touch point of rave past present and future". On the B Side, "Innart" is lopsided, broken techno with aquatic sound design that will causes issues for the techno selectors out there with weak bladders, whilst "Nuke" is as potent as the name suggests.

Henry
Review: Pennyroyal and Power Vacuum have already put out J. Tijn's tortured techno, and now it's the turn of Overlee Assembly. For all those producers making laddish industrial techno, ILGD should act as a wake-up call. The title track re-defines the word 'visceral'; screeching riffs, like a thousand cats being electrocuted simultaneously, shoots through the murky rhythm, crashing drums and acrid acid. "Henry" is just as deranged. With its insane Hoover-led noise and frenetic, high-tempo rhythm, it mixes squat party techno abandon - is the title a cheeky reference to Dave The Drummer? - with hard-core rave excess. Gothic gloom merchants should listen and learn!

Decimated #4
Review: Since surfacing last year with a contribution to the New Jack Techno compilation for zeitgeist chasers Turbo, the London based J. Tijn has more than lived up to his billing as an 'up & coming' producer. This year he inaugurated Untold's techno-focused Pennyroyal label with two 12-inch singles as well as appearing on the OHWL#Ten series from Belgian label Other Heights. J. Tijn's third release sees the young producer combine the one track of Detroit house, "Flat", with three cuts of decidedly dubby and Berlin-centric techno, showing off a more cultured side to his productions.

Jack 2
Fucklebucks
Hamerhoofd
Review: J Tijn is quickly becoming a recognised name after a strong contribution to a three-part techno series by Belgium label Other Heights, as well as his role in Turbo's New Jack Techno sampler, which saw his "The Anti Mixdown" cut into an EP with other up-and-comers Locked Groove, Gingy (minus Bordello) and Milano. A further example of J Tijn's rising repute is demonstrated on this Jack 2 EP which inaugurates the new Pennyroyal label from Hemlock boss Untold. The title track lurches through a rough mess of sludge and scraping hi-hats that sound like something from Terminator 2, while "Fucklebucks" heads toward ravey-Blawan territory. The snigger and growl of "Hamerhoofd" share similarities to Regis' early '90s material, suggesting like J Tijn, like Regis then, is only in his techno-adolescence, with plenty more to come.

J Tijn - "Three 0 Freedom"
VVV - "Burrowing"
Ozka - "KMZ"
Myztical - "Summer '91"
Review: Other Heights round out their decorated entry into 2013 with the last of three various artist EPs. Like EP I / III, which raised its curtain with the debut of Gaust, EP III / III sees newcomer J.Tijn open in frenetic and acidic style with "Three 0 Freedom", while Texan dubstep producer VVV's stomping "Burrowing" shares many similarities with Ghostek's "Cryon" from Other Heights seventh release Leaving For The City Of Saints. On the flip, Ozka returns to the label after a split EP in 2011 with Jakob Altmann, and he supplies the loopy and bass-centric "KMZ". Another prize picking from label owner Kerschot is the inclusion of Myztical's rough and dusty house jam "Summer '91" - a name to look out for if his Analogue Experiences EP on upstart Nicz Records is anything to go by.

Objekt - "Balloons"
An-i - "Convo"
JoeFarr & J Tijn - "Mustard Sucker"
Positive Merge - "Note"
Review: Since 2012 Power Vacuum has made a name for itself by releasing unrelenting rave and acid fuelled techno. After a strong second year of releases that included contributions from Mark Broom and EDMX, as well as several releases from label founder Milo Smee, the first Power Vacuum release of 2014 introduces five new artists on a split release. Although the highlight for many will be a rare track from Objekt, the angular shock and awe techno of "Balloons", the rest of the contributions are equally great. Turbo's latest recruits Joe Farr and J.Tijn team up for the steamroller that is "Mustard Sucker" while Ukrainian hard techno producer Positive Merge delivers the relentless gabber-esque stomp of "Note", but perhaps the most eye-catching inclusion is the new An-i project from Lee Douglas that recently debuted on Minimal Wave's sister label Cititrax, with the ex-TBD man delivering the scrambled frequencies of "Convo". In a word: essential.
