Dromedary EP

Disco/Nu-Disco
Carpentaria - "Gadget Messiah" (5:35)
Carpentaria - "Der Inder" (2:58)
Hysteric - "Arabian 01" (5:01)
Hysteric - "Arabian 02" (5:48)
Review: Munich's Public Possession keep on with their new wave Balearic aesthetic ever so nicely. This time by getting some Aussie larrikins on board. First up is Carpentaria aka Sydney's Tamas Jones and Paul Harmon. "Gadget Messiah" with its infectious bassline, creepy but catchy operatic vocals equally startling synth horns that somehow grow on you, a lot! Next is "Der Inder" with its epic analogue synth arpeggio and lush strings sounding rather reminiscent of an eighties film score. On the flip there's Hysteric, getting all Italo on us with its dark vibes and that gritty EBM style bassline on "Arabian 1" with as the title suggests: some exotic instrumentation floating on top of it all. The seductive vocals of "Arabian 2" and its intense strings workout is pretty killer too..

Franz Scala - "Sweet Carillon" (7:24)
Hysteric - "Pleides" (6:46)
Beatfoot & DJ Dollpin - "Osdorp Discoteca" (5:39)
Cherrystones - "Gom Reg Raga" (6:53)
Review: The Duca Bianco posse continue to plough headlong into the thicket of vintage dance music across genre boundaries, with a crack team of deepest diggers picking out lesser spotted jams and giving them an expert re-rub. First up, Franz Scala drops some synth-pop B-side dub mix magic on 'Sweet Carillon', before Hysteric leaps into action with the staccato body-popping bombast of 'Pleides', coming on like Yello and The Human League rocking out with Thomas Dolby. Beatfoot & DJ Dollpin bring a seriously salty slice of proto trance voodoo on 'Osdorp Discoteca', capturing the magic of the sound when a melting pot of influences such as Italo disco were feeding into the musical mix. Cherrystones finishes things off with 'Gom Reg Raga', a loping, polyrhythmic meditation with plenty of mysticism folded in between the earthen drums.

Lombardoni Tool (3:50)
Lombardoni (Medley) (5:38)
Lombardoni (Lipelis Disco Megamixxx) (7:25)
Review: Melbourne digger and edit master Hysteric is back in top class fashion here with some more of his brilliantly feel good tunes. This time he dips his toe into warm Mediterranean waters and the lush world of Italo disco with 'Lombardoni Tool' which is all retro synth chords, splashy cymbals and chugging 80s drums. Bliss. The Medley Mix is more heavy on the effects while the over-seven minute Lipelis Disco Megamixxx is a big fusion of spangled Balearic riffs, house drums and future-retro disco chord vamps.

Portable Dishwasher (edit) (5:45)
Review: Melbourne digger and edit master Hysteric is enlisted here by the Pleasure of Love gang for a four track EP packed with characterful cuts. They come after he has impressed on labels like Public Possession, Ostra Discos and Centre Neptune, plus of course his own delightfully Italo-tinged Mothball outlet. The sounds here are adventurous and bright, with retro patterns, crashing hits and cheeky vocals over a range of disco grooves that span all styles and scenes. This is a timeless EP, to be sure.

Satellite (5:03)
Fate (4:16)
Etrange (4:29)
Pulse (4:13)
Review: There's plenty of great stuff going on in the loose fit world of alternative grooves in Melbourne at present, and Hysteric has a lot to do with that. Having appeared on Public Possession, Edits Du Plaisir and Bordello A Parigi over time, you know his jams are serious, and that comes through even clearer on this awesome new release for Bahnsteig 23. "Satellite" is loaded with Germanic robo-boogie panache, while "Fate" has Moroder-esque thrust melting into VHS b-movie bombast a-plenty. "Etrange" gets a French disco strut on the burn that would suit any lover of Cerrone's distinctive style, and then "Pulse" trips out into a cosmic groove that might well find a home with Bernard Fevre or some other such astral enchanter.

Brazil Wave
Mare
Bollywood Love Theme
Review: Melbournian DJ/producer Hysteric has delivered some of the best re-edits of recent times. What separates him from his rivals is a desire to dig deeper for source material, a trait that's resulted in a string of quirky, floor-friendly gems. He's at it again on this Edit du Plaisir outing, first chopping and rearranging a druggy and sweaty Italo-disco obscurity ("Pepper DJ"), before subtly tweaking a drowsy, near-Balearic South American new wave gem on the superb "Brazil Wave". Lead B-side cut "Mare" is a thrillingly camp and throbbing high-energy disco number, while closer "Bollywood Love Theme" sees him make merry with a bizarre but Brilliant Indian record that somehow joins the dots between reggae, '80s electro, and heavy '70s funk.

Girls Like Me (4:53)
Oz-Talo (4:18)
Review: Nu-disco does't really do Hysteric's tunes enough justice. The Melbourne-based DJ and producer is not one to shy away from a good sample, or even a little house now and again, so we like to see him as someone who merely produces GOOD dance music. After several appearances on his native Public Possession, as of late, he lands on Violette Szabo for the label's fourth drop, and we have to say that "Amour D'Ete" is a wonderfully charming piece of electronic boogie - fit for any sort of DJ set. On the flip, however, is where Hysteric flaps his wings; "Amoureuse" recalls the romanticism of the 1980's, and the European wave of disco-not-disco that was so strong back them. All in all, a pretty strong appearance from the Aussie lad. Tip!

Summer In Cairo (6:11)
Discotheek De Marathon (6:53)
Pescara Beach (4:38)
Southend Pier (5:34)
Review: Melbourne producer Hysteric is becoming a go-to man for those looking for killer re-edits of obscure, left-of-centre Italo-disco and synth-pop oddities. Here he serves up a fresh batch of reworked gems for new label Fuego International, following inspired outings on Bordello A Parigi and Public Possession. The title track is a steamy, exotic Italo-disco gem blessed with electrofunk flourishes and AOR disco guitars, while "Discotheek De Marathon" is a throbbing, synth-heavy chugger that makes great use of extended drum solos and synthesized cowbells. Flip for the sweet, Afro-Italo fusion of "Pescara Beach", and the pitched down, electro-influenced new wave shuffle of "Southend Pier".

Computer Wars (4:42)
Belly Dance Fever (4:18)
My Man (6:23)
Propellerdisco (3:29)
Review: If this smart re-edit 12" is anything to go by, Bordello A Parigi and Public Possession man Hysteric owns some killer records. Released as part of the Under The Influence series, Mappamondo boasts a quartet of intriguing reworks of little-known gems. He begins with the whistling synthesizer lines, modem bleeps and rubbery disco groove of "Computer Wars", before taking a trip to Persia on the unfeasibly exotic "Belly Dance Disco". Flip for the Balearic-goes-camp, shirts-off-in-Rimini flex of dreamy Italo-disco rework "My Man", and the strutting, Magueritas-style cheeriness of jaunty Italo-disco dancer "Propellerdisco". All four reworks are subtle and spot-on, making this one of the most essential re-edit singles of recent times.

Tuareg (5:56)
Agave (4:10)
Desert Ilusion (6:38)
Review: Melbourne prankster Hysteric is back after appearing recently on local imprint Noise In MY Head and Public Possession. It's more of the same on Oasis Room; balearic oddities and tricky disco vibes. "Tuareg" is brazenly 80's in sound with those loveably cheesy presets (pan pipes and funk bass, among others) and sampled vocal parts being re-played on the keyboard. It's sounds like Yello on happy pills. "Agave" sounds like a creepy old MIDI file played off a discarded old Yamaha synth, until the samples come in, sounding more like Boney M or some other Frank Farian project. Likewise on the flip for "Desert Illusion", but in much more grandiose fashion. Actually, you must hear this!

Good Block - "Vuudu" (4:35)
Maybe Tonight - "Pacifique" (OTE Maybe Tonight Refix) (5:28)
Review: Orange Tree serves up more low hanging, perfectly ripened disco fruit from four master diggers here. Melbourne's Hysteric open up with 'Forza,' a stomping bit of 80s synth work that radiates warmth. London duo Good Block offer up two cuts, the first of which is the dark and dubby 'Mondo', then 'Vuudu,' a steamy and percussive, heavy and edgy chugger with real presence. Parisian favourite Maybe Tonight closes out with the most dreamy of the lot - a track with swirling pads, steamy vocal whispers and a slapping groove overlaid with new age motifs.

Mike Burns - "Possess Me" (5:50)
Afrobot - "Good Daddy" (6:38)
Review: Salamanca return with the fourth volume in their highly limited series of synth pop and disco edits. First up Hysteric unearths a quirky obscure blood sucking banger by Empire - "Ooh Dracula" - twisting it into a stomping Queen-meets-Ram Jam post disco gem. Mike Burns' digs deeper with the percussion-heavy "Possess Me", a slinky cosmic disco roller a la late zeroes Terje. Afrobot closes the show with the strangest track of the pack; part late 70s alien space shuttle gossip, part fairground, all angular 80s funk, it sums up the Salamanca spirit winningly.
