Review: Giovanni Damico has done plenty of great house EPs in his time but on this one he explores a retro Italo and disco sounds with lashings of synth and wave influences. His EP for Star Crature opens with 'Ashes' which could well be a long forgotten classic getting a timely reissue. The machines bring a nice analogue texture, the melodies are filled with 80s nostalgia and the whole thing is coated in dust. Flip it over and you will find the more leggy cosmic explosions and chugging basslines of 'Milky Way' which is finished with a perfect vocal and plenty of nice vocoder sounds.

Review: Fresh from an acclaimed outing on FACES, Giovanni Damico pops up on Marcel Vogel's inspired Lumberjacks In Hell label. The Italian producer is naturally in fine form here, with A-side "Tanzania" - a breezy, house-friendly rework of what sounds like a Tanzanian boogie cut - being one of the most addictive and life-affirming edits we've heard this month. You'll find more wiggling synthesizer lines on the deliciously dreamy and evocative deep house shuffler "I Need Me", while "Are You Somebody" is a successful exercise in subtly beefing up a low-slung disco-funk number. As if that wasn't enough to set the juices flowing, he completes a brilliant E.P with the jazz-fuelled deep house smokiness of "Humans After All".

Review: Hot on the heels of that rather wondrous Le Sampler Des Copains doublepack, Pablo Valentino's Faces label returns proffering a debut for long serving Italian DJ and producer Giovanni Damico. The White Rabbit Recordings boss has quite the impressive discography, with 12" shaped emissions on Bitter Moon, Lumberjacks in Hell, Seven Limited and Black Key Records. His La Dame Et Le Conga EP fits snugly into the Faces aesthetic and yes it does feature some conga on the title cut. An apparent nod to Damico's latin and jazz past, "La Dame Et Le Conga" is quite exquisite in both its original form and the accompanying Magnificent Deep remix from Rick Wade. Either side of those Damico brings some soul heavy and sample heavy house vibes with closer "What U Feel Like" a real B-side gem.

Review: Italy's Giovanni Damico return to Seven after the success of his EP with the label, earlier in 2013. The 'Old Feelings' EP was supported by a broad spectrum of DJs, with leading names including Laura Jones, Hunee and Jacques Renault. Since that time, Giovanni has gone on to release more high-end music of top labels such as Landed, Skylax, Geography and Black Key. So it's a welcome return for the Italian to the Belfast based imprint. This time for a special vinyl only release on Seven's 'Seven Limited (7LTD)' sublabel. The EP kicks off with a deep, groovy, Chicago inspired track entitled 'Summer Rain'. then leading into '2 Birds' which has a jazzier and deeper feel, reminiscent of many MCDE track. The B side then takes things a little more underground. 'Polo' starts with a more Latin House vibe, but when the acid kicks in we're led straight to Detroit. Finishing up the release is 'Balboa Jab'. The funky and live feel of this track is the perfect way to end yet another excellent release for Giovanni and Seven!

Review: According to La Chinerie themselves. after repping their dear home of France on the first volume, they are 'this time enlightening Italy's house scene through an eclectic V/A gathering eight tracks from eight talented macaronis.' Southern Italy represents in the form of Salerno's Giovanni Damico with the funky and dusty soul heaven of "No Al Maltrattamento Dei Samples" while Lecce's finest Marcello Napoletano delivers the goods as always on the gritty house shenanigans of "Insignami". Elsewhere, there's Restoration's Lucretio (via Berlin of course) delivering some muscular, hardware oriented grooves on "I Piu Piccoli" while the north of The Beautiful Country represents too, rest assured, in the from of Bologna's Bassa Clan with the bouncy and swinging NYC circa '94 vibe of "Notte Brava".

Review: Holland's young and altruistic Bitter Moon label return with the second instalment of their Lunes De Fiel series, the last one being something of a gem by the collaborative efforts of Norway's number one soundboy Skatebard, Wasted Gaze and Credit 00. This time it's another three-pronged house attack: Thomas Blanckaert aka Innershades drops the booming and kick-driven "Moments Of Euphoria", the devilish Snuff Crew come through with a percussion-driven minimal house cut in the form of "Your Hands", while "Giovanni Damico's "#Acid" takes a mid-tempo drum jam and chucks a scorching layer of 303-driven goodness over it...the prototypical acid tag!

Review: British deep house imprint Quintessentials is back after some great releases of late by Mexican producers 4004 and Soul Of Hex, Tuscany's Mat Chiavaroli and Russian Ponthy Mython. On the A side of this various artists compilation entitled Gentlemen Cuts, we have Andrea Pedra aka Kian-T from Tuscany with the deep and dusty soul-jazz of "Disco Sauvage". Nobody does deepness like the Swiss and indeed Replika's "Hallowgram" delivers the goods. On the flip we have some funky nu-jazz business by Salerno's Giovanni Damico (aka Ron Juan) in the form of "Kitkat" channelling classic Phil Asher/Restless Soul kind of vibes, while Leipzig's Kolja Gerstenberg (Suol/Smile For A While) delivers the EP's finest moment on the irresistable "Get Your Ass Up". It's a dusty and sexy jam reminiscent of early Agnes or Baaz. All killer no filler from this fine league of gentlemen!

Review: Some 12 months on from the release of the first, multi-artist The Souls of DSC EP, Dockside Records delivers a follow-up. As with its predecessor, the 12" draws together subtly soulful box jams from label artists and associates. There's naturally much to admire, from the rolling, riff-fuelled U.S style deep house pump of Dwayne Jenson's "Make Love", to the piano heavy, retro-futurist bounce of 2bar's "The Docks". Arguably best of all, though, is Giovanni Damico's contribution, a smoky chunk of Andres style deep house jazziness entitled "Ain't No Call For You". Like the Detroit producer's work, it features some killer samples and just the right balance between functional, loop-heavy grooves, and more expansive musicality.
