Review: Unlock is a Buenos Aires-based label run by Gonzalo A. Solimano since 2005 which in recent times has brought forth releases by the likes of Franco Cinelli, Barem and local legend Leonel Castillo. On Collaborations 3 there's some surefire material, be assured. Starting off with (quite literally) some of the coolest names in underground house music: firstly Deep Mariano (Get Slow) with the funky, rolling, minimal-tribal groove that is "From Machines To Jungle", then One + 1 & Camilo Gil with the charmingly titled "Bitch Call", a deep and hypnotic cut that's perfectly geared for the afterhours. On the flip, they hand the reins over to Bucharest's finest; Funk E & Bodeler who deliver the tripped out trance induction of "Playa Den Bolsa" (where they really show us how it's done!) then finally homeboy Ronan Portela throws down the tough and thumping functionality of "Changing Minds" which is undoubtedly the most straight ahead offering on here. Review: Next in the OGE white series is Romania's minimal funk maestro Funk E. This guy is a real cult hero in the scene and someone with a fine grasp on sound design and the ability to make the silkiest of grooves, as evidenced by the opener 'Untitled One' which takes up all of the A-side and does great things with it too. The rolling drums and flaky snares are super silky, like liquid metal flowing downhill under trippy little details. 'Untitled Two' is just as sublime in its synthesis, with gloopy synths, whirring effects and catchy drum funk. 'Untitled Three' is a darker, slightly more intense but still perfectly reduced minimal brew.

Review: Ever reliable minimal house imprint Raum.. Musik out of Frankfurt returns this week. It's a new offering by Rominimal hero Funk E, who serves up four choice cuts aimed squarely at afterhours dancefloors on the Jazz The Two Of Us EP. Get your head down to 'Goldfinch' and feel the stripped back, bass-driven groove with its clipped rhythm programming, followed by the paranoid microhouse weirdness of the title track. Over on the flip, he gets those killer rhythms off the grid on the broken beat stepper "Mermaids Are Smoking Seaweed". Tip!

Review: The new breed of Romanian minimal producers truly is a force to reckoned with and Funk E is a fine example of such. Following up some great releases on Mulen, The Rabbit Hole and of course his own Great White Circle imprint, the Funk E man now appears on Frankfurt's Pleasure Zone. "One Hand Clapping" is deep, rolling and.. well.. funky! In the most drawn out and hypnotic way of course, working that subtle groove to the max. On the flip, he brings on the power of the breakbeat, another recent trend to come out of Bucharest's musical scene of late and something he's proven to have knack for on previous releases; he uses this booming and dusty rhythm beneath ethereal elements to wonderfully trance inducing effect on "Pe Apa Zambetei".

Review: Romanian minimal house hero Funk E inaugurated Great White Circle earlier this year after several impressive releases on Frankfurt's Raum Musik. He returns with more of his reductionist style grooves for the second release. First track "Hardcouer" is rolling and trippy deepness with a paranoid atmosphere that is absolutely perfect for Sunday morning shut ins. On the flip is "Subtle Thought Pattern", a fitting title actually! A mental and hypnotic groove that's perfect for drifting away in your head while watching the sunset at Club Der Visionaere later on, on Sunday afternoon!

Review: We all know by now that when it comes to minimal; Romanians do it better. Who better than local up and comer Funk E to take over proceedings. Half past gr8 is dark, hypnotic and mysterious. That tight and intricate programming on the rhythm front does all the work but just wait until those creepy chords come rushing in. On the flip is "Follow The Riddle" which sounds like St. Germain on drugs and sleep deprivation. With its shuffling, jazzy drums and the intermittent splashes of piano and sax beneath paranoid atmospherics this is definitely one for the afterhours. For fans of reknown local imprints ar:pi:ar and Understand: keep an eye on this label.

Review: The Great Empty Circle label launches with a 12" from Funk E, a Romanian producer who's been plying his trade on various imprints since 2012. To date, his material has largely stuck to the German techno blueprint, with powerful rhythms offset by minimal-influenced textures and late night electronics. A-side "Wu Wei" continues in this vein, with intricately programmed, rolling percussion and occasional bursts of downbeat melody tracking an impressively addictive bassline. "Drumu Starii" flips the script slightly, pairing the producer's usual locked-in rhythms with yearning vocal samples and "Deep Burnt" filter chords. The result is a track that blends the melodic, soul-flecked idealism of deep house, with the metronomic rhythms of techno.

Review: Though Romanian artist Laurentiu Gavrila first unveiled his Funk E project back in 2011 with a contribution to Desolat X, it really took shape with his subsequent pair of 12"s on Raum. Issued under the banner Into It, those two records established Gavrila's sound and paved the way for appearances on Appolonia's Fabric mix as well as further 12"s for Adult Only and Kurbits Records. A third edition of Into It for Raum is a fine way to open Funk E proceedings for the year, delivering two trademark extended productions that utilise all available space to build a mood with a degree of accomplishment and subtlety. Review: Over the course of its four-year lifespan, the In Haus Wax label has served up some seriously solid tech-house and deep house, with Adam Shelton, Ekkohaus, Chris Carrer and Liam Geddes all making sterling contributions. Their ninth release boasts four tracks, and plenty of floor-friendly roller. We're particularly enjoying the trippy, late night hypnotism and bumpin' bottom end of Dan Fraserelli's "Daylight", and the darting, undulating deep house funk of Bolumar's "Enki", though there's little to fault throughout the EP. Many will naturally be drawn to the spacey tech-house shuffle of Funk-E's epic "Duffy Dutch", which opens the E.P in fine style.

Review: It is 11 up for You Know What and it comes in some style as a three-pronged attack from Funk E, Narcis and Naf Naf. 'Out Of The Blues' opens up with stylish and stripped-back tech with nice dry hits and a rasping bassline that is peppered with toms and wispy chords. They occupy to mind while the feet tap out the rhythm and then 'Flipstone' gets more watery, dubby and ethereal for those freaky after-hour sessions. It is 'Fara Numar' which closes out with more of that lovely dry tech sound design, barely-there synth works and suggestive rhythms that lock you in.

Review: Always nice to get in some new wax on Bucharest's Curtea Veche, who we can always rely upon for quality Rominimal vibes. Its 15th release comes from local stalwarts Guy From Downstairs and Funk E, who serve up some typically understated sounds on the Time EP. On the A side it features two tracks; first is the hypnotic after hours deep house of "Da Jam" followed by the low-slung groove of "Mutu Swing" which makes equally worthy tackle for the Sunday morning set. Over on the flip, it's all about the dusty, woozy microhouse of the title track. Tip!

Review: Spain's Vinylclub have been busy representing more interesting corners of minimal and tech house since 2006, and amongst their most trusted artistic compatriots is Luc Ringeisen, who appears once more on the label as part of their new Vinyl Club Concept series. Ringeisen is in no mood to mess around, keeping just the bare bones of "Beat Design" on show for a crisp exercise in percussion. Meanwhile on "Rolling Drop" he plies a more dense kind of production with plenty of texture and sound design at work in amongst the steady-ticking track. He's joined by Tolga who drops a funkier kind of micro house with a killer shuffle and an absence of frivolous melodies. Funk E meanwhile works on a more attention grabbing fusion of bass and drums with some playful samples that bring the track to life.

Review: New Chilean label Secret Society kicks off with a split 12" called Sheep that features a who's who of the current minimal scene. Kicking things off is none other than SIT, aka Cristi Cons & Vlad Caia, with the deeply rolling, superbly emotive and utterly hypnotic "Near Jam". Subtlety is the name of the game on Funk E & Luc Ringeisen's "Your House", with its simplistic bump and shuffle getting you stoned into the groove. Finally, on the flip we've got the downright creepy and paranoid "Juice & Bread" by Joaquin Lledo & Cleymoore; its chilling atmospherics and dubby low-slung groove are perfectly suited for sleep deprived Sunday afternoons while it's raining down at Club der Visionaere this Fall.

Somfay opens up proceedings with 'Arborvitae' (A Voice Like Water) which is a zoned out roller with chords that encourage you to gaze off to the future. The b-side starts with Luc Ringeisen & Funk E's 'Treinta Y Siempre', a tender electronic lullaby with gently broken beats and then things get much more scuffed up and dubby with Polyfan Polyphenix's 'Polymorph 2' which is a languid rhythm that makes you want to move nice and loose.

Review: There's plenty to get sucked into on this latest 12" transmission from Germany's Movida. It is Part 1 of a new Waterdrop EP from a quartet of artists. Somfay goes it alone to start with on the far-sighted and zoned-out house of 'Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water). Luc Ringeisen & Funk E then link up for 'Treinta Y Siempre' which is a lithe and sleek electro-tinged rhythm with lovely downbeat bass notes and more uplifting melodic patterns. Last of all is Polyfan Polyphenix, a jittery and rugged rhythm with razor sharp hi-hats and twisted vocals that bring a leftfield sound to 'Polymorph 2.'

Review: Unisson is Romanian duo Alex Draghici & Teodorescu Nicolae who head up UNS Records. Its latest release is a split EP with Rominimal scene hero Funk E and is jam packed full of hypnotic tackle. On side A, Unisson capture the main room with the rolling and etheral tech house adventure of 'Freeler' followed by the slinky bounce of 'Kelly Watch The Stars By Air'. Over on the flip, a similar vibe continues where Funk E gets a bit of assistance from Ogeid on the lean groove subtlety of 'Harrypoppers' followed by the glacial back room dub of 'Pink Freud' which is aimed squarely at the afterhours dancefloor.
