Review: The Cronenberg referencing Crimes Of The Future label from Messrs. Fairplay and Fraser gathers further pace on their second release, looking across the Atlantic and focussing on the enigmatic works of Elizabeth Merrick Jefferson. From her Detroit base, Jefferson has one previous release to call on in the shape of the Urban Off Road 12" for the Argot label. The promise demonstrated there is explored further within the context of this four track Quetzalcoatl 12" for COTF, expounding colourful take on Detroit house filled with rich star gazing qualities that would attract the attention of Timothy and Scott.

Astronomical Twilight
Review: Rising out of the unknown, Detroit producer Elizabeth Merrick-Jefferson makes a worthy debut on the Argot label. Prior to this twelve inch, Merrick-Jefferson's only credited track was the unreleased "Bubo Blakistoni", used by Alex Israel in his LWE podcast, and the man Israel has taste so it's no wonder LWE editor Steve Mizek has sought out further productions from her for his Argot label. "Go Home" is a flurry jacking drums and gnarling synths that sound like Kraftwerk on overdrive, while "John Kronk" - cut from the same cloth as the aforementioned - is less hectic, with a melodious synth line and lighter percussive elements nipping softly in the background. "Astronomical Twilight" sees Merrick-Jefferson round out her debut EP with animated electro beats, subtle phasing effects and chiming Drexciya-like arpeggios that sound like they were played at high terrestrial altitude in a hypobaric chamber.
