Review: Steve Mizek's Chicago-based Argot label is usually a reliable source of formidable dancefloor fare from currently hot or fast-rising talents. Previously, the label has showcased work from The Black Madonna, Gunnar Haslam, Pittsburgh Track Authority and Amir Alexander. Here, Mizek has managed to coax some new original material out of Mister Saturday Night main man Eamon Harkin. There's an intoxicating, psychedelic intensity about the early '90s British techno influences on the moody, string-laden, acid-flecked "Species of Comedy". "Back Down", meanwhile, is a much more robust affair, with nagging hooks and twisted riffs riding a balls-out techno groove.

Review: New York institution Throne of Blood can serve up a wide variety of club music, and on this occasion they've turned to Eamon Harkin to deliver two distinct old skool flavoured jams. "Electric Light" throbs with thick slabs of electro synths manhandled into an almost Italo-disco context. Brendon Moeller is on hand to serve up a reworking that sees him bowl the fist-pumping original into a glutinous vat of reverb. "Rigor Music" sees Harkin strip things back with a mean acid cut that ticks all the right boxes, leaving it Roman Flugel to finish proceedings off with a brilliant mutant acid offering like only he knows how.

Review: Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter's Weekends & Beginnings compilation, a one-take live mix released last November, perfectly captured the energy-packed, floor-filling eccentricities of the Mister Saturday Night parties with which they made their name. Here, they present a flavour of that mix, dropping an excellent, DJ-friendly sampler featuring a trio of standout cuts. It's particularly good to see Maurice Fulton's twinkling, deep and loose remix of Alice Smith's "Love Endeavour" again, original 12" copies of which fetch ridiculous sums online these days. There's also some woozy downtempo genius from the ever-reliable Bass Clef, and a chunk of spooky, marimba-laden techno from Nebraska (the brilliant "Green Marimba").

Review: Having impressed at the tail end of 2014 with the CD version of Weekends & Beginnings - a live mix-up recorded to celebrate the success of the Mister Saturday Night parties that eventually spawned the acclaimed label of the same name - Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter return with a second, DJ-friendly vinyl sampler. Unsurprisingly, it's packed with gems, from the deep, gospel-influenced soulful house swing of Tommy Musto's forgotten 1998 remix of Jasper Street Company's "Solid Ground", to the percussive, stripped-back brilliance of Motor City Drum Ensemble's remix of Caribou's "Leave House". Best of all, though, is Ike Release's "Phazzled", an overlooked 2012 deep house gem that deserves greater exposure.
