Review: Since debuting on Stilove4music in 2012, Brooklyn duo Devin Dare has offered up an irregular smattering of brilliant EPs for the likes of Apron, Misterio and La Mission, including a couple of notable outings alongside London badman Stevie J AKA Funkineven. Here they showcase their scalpel skills via a first outing on local label Razor-N-Tape. They begin by offering an extra-percussive, party-starting revision of a low-slung, turn-of-the-80s deep disco-meets-punk funk affair ("Clash & Burn"), before romping their way through a weighty revision of a high-octane disco stomper ("KOHO2"). Over on side B, "Dust" sees them successfully re-wire a Hammond-heavy chunk of gospel disco-funk, while "Stop" is a pleasingly percussive revision of a soaring disco number.

Review: Party-starting rework specialists Devin Dare (AKA producers Duane Herriott and Sean Marquand) were last seen on Mister Saturday Night edit offshoot Misterio, serving up a scintillating slab of peaktime disco goodness. While there's nothing quite as shamelessly celebratory as that on this La Mission outing, it's still packed full of cheeky, floor-friendly treats. Check, for example, the Clav-happy, synth-laden disco-funk of "Naufrage", the low slung, bass-driven thump of "KOHO", or the trippy, early house-meets-Italo disco clatter of "Wanna Dance". Arguably best of all, though, is the sweaty "On Somebody", which somehow joins the dots between early U.S garage, proto-house and mind-altering Chicago acid.

Review: Super rare Apron runnings pressed up for Record Store Day featuring a much requested Funkineven cut and a equally fine jam from Devin Dare. First surfacing in Mr Even's all killer no filler RA podcast last year, "YM2" is a fine Funkineven tweak of Yellow Magic Orchestra with dare we say a dash of Bobby O pomp to it's groove, and should be filed alongside "Chips" and "Dreams" in the canon of classic Apron edits. On the flip Duane Harriott & Sean Marquand don their Devin Dare outfit for "Best" which is a high octane disco funk jam every bit as good as their record for Stilove4Music from 2012. Highly limited so don't sleep less you have to deal with the Discogs vultures.
