Jive Kept Me Live (5:37)
Over Cold Seas (5:38)
Headhunter (5:39)
Savage Nights (6:28)
Review: Developer is back on Modularz with more steel-clad techno machinations for your toolkit. "Jive Kept Me Live" has a stern cyclical core, but there's a rich spectrum of tonality pulsing around this rhythmic focus to keep your brain twitching as heartily as your feet. "Over Cold Seas" centres around a particularly unsettling synth hook that sounds as though it's trying to punch through from another plane of existence, and "Headhunter" brings some more overtly melodic themes to the forefront. "Savage Nights" closes things out with the kind of unnerving techno incantations that you might expect to hear from Terrence Dixon - anyone who knows their techno knows that's high praise indeed.

Review: History _ its evident that Developer has been unstoppable over that last decade, but it's been an even longer time ago that Developer got his start as a DJ back in 1992 where he started djing in the backyard party scene then moving to a residency on 88.7fm Radio then eventually becoming a fixture in the Los Angeles underground warehouse scene playing alongside many of the worlds techno elite and organizing events throughout the 90s into the 2000s. In 2009 Developer retired from events and then converted Modularz from event organizer group to a techno label and began releasing his own music eventually making his way into europe and onto the world. The Album _ Sangre Por Oro, which translates to Blood for Gold, is a full-bodied album, with each track highlighting the different complexities of where techno can go and take you. The whole-room experience that he creates through his tracks high- lights his ability to unify techno lovers, all under one roof.

On this new EP titled "Off Grid he literary goes off grid from his last releases and compliments the sound of his solo label Developer Archive, laying down jam after jam of funky yet haunting tonal bits of sonic rollers. Review: There's always been a bit of a "no frills" feel to Developer's output. The Los Angeles producer specializes in the kind of functional, no-nonsense techno that comes into its own when played over booming club sound systems. The four tracks featured on this latest EP fall into the same bracket. With the exception of the melodious, chiming closer "The Sphere", what you get from these Dispatches From L.A is thunderous, in-your-face beats, unsettling looped riffs, snaking modular electronics, pitched-down vocal snippets, and occasional mind-altering acid lines. In other words, this is straight-up club techno for concrete-clad warehouses, dark and dusty basements, and wayward mornings after.

Muthafucka (6:27)
Telekinesis (6:44)
Ruthless Charm (7:42)
Gentle Surrenders (5:47)
Review: Developer's back everyone: look out! Los Angeles' techno powerhouse is coming at ya again courtesy of his Developer Archive imprint, a stockpile dedicated to the Modular main man's secret weapons. On the A side the bluntly titled "Muthafucka" is tunnelling and hypnotic, plus those pitch shifted vocals add a further sinister touch. "Telekinesis" has the same cerebral qualities of the last track but is even more ferocious in its grinding cyclical manner. On the flip we've got "Ruthless Charm" which has the cyclical and adrenalised functionality of a Robert Hood record and "Gentle Surrenders" which is the most restrained effort but quite a highlight, actually; a basic trance inducing rhythm is backed by woozy and mysterious pads, locking you into the groove superbly.

The Charmer (6:44)
Review: Los Angeles' finest and Modularz main man Developer steps up for the fifth anniversary edition of his always reliable imprint for peak time techno weapons. "Catch My Flow" is a ferocious journey through dark side futurism and is just begging to be played at techno mecca Berghain. On the flip "Abnormal Mentality" is completely hysterical: with its mentasm style melodies dancing on top of a beastly bassline and belting rhythm: it's got all you need really. Finally it wouldn't be a Developer EP without one of his tunnelling and hypnotic epics would it? "The Charmer" satisfies such cravings, executed as brilliantly as always.

Expression Of Lust (7:31)
Precious Time (6:43)
Review: The foreboding Developer Archive returns with its fifth chapter and as you'd expect, the EP is made up of four wavey techno bleepers tailor-made for floor-filling. From "Body Art" - a steamroller of a cut - to "Precious Time", Developer voices his thoughts across in a techno language, except that his moods differ on each track and although the bulk of the EP is rather bleak and grey-scaled, the sounds on a track like "Metronica" also portray a lighter side to the man's vision. Quality as always, this one's for the techno heads. Most probably supported by the whole Berghain mafia...

Review: In terms of prolific techno artists, few others can match the output of Los Angeles-based Adrian Sandoval who has jettisoned over 30 releases in the past six years as Developer with the majority arriving via his own Modularz label. In Pure Form sees Sandoval take the raw, tunnelling brand of techno he's made his own as Developer and apply it to the album format. The full digital version of the album contains some 25 "tracks direct from the Developer factory of techno" all of which are named "In Pure Form". The vinyl edition pares the selection down to 12 and spreads them across three 12"s with this first one a perfect introduction to what to expect should you wish for a taste of the full In Pure Form experience.

Review: You'll be hard pushed to find a producer as dedicated to his cause as Modularz boss Adrian Sandoval; instrumental in the development of LA's techno scene, Sandoval's tireless production ethic as Developer has seen him release over 30 records in the past six years so it feels like we are due an album from the man. Unsurprisingly, In Pure Form runs deep with tunnelling DJ tools with the full digital version of the album packing a rather impressive 25 tracks. This second of three 12" samplers for the album covers "In Pure Form" through tracks five to eight and does show that Sandoval can implement a lot of sonic diversity to the functional techno track.

Review: It's three for three in the 12" samplers to accompany Developer's long overdue (and quite long) debut album In Pure Form which naturally arrives via his own Modularz label. Whereas the standard route for a techno artist approaching the album format is to pad out their floor focused productions with a few ambient vignettes in a shallow attempt to offer depth, Developer's approach here is to simply show how good he is at what he does; namely, wall shaking techno of various shades. The full 25 track album might look a bit intimidating but all three of these 12"s does a great job of introducing Developer In Pure Form.

Moments Of Clarity

Run For The Dark
The Galaxian
Review: If there is one producer to make punishing and dub-tinged techno for the club, it's Developer. The fourth release on his Archive sub-label to Modularz is a five-track EP of rock hard, but spatial sounding techno, which starts with the pounding and Jonas Kopp-like runaround of "Moments Of Clarity". Sharing the A-side is a settled and slightly trippy "Ursae Majoris". Combine the styles of DVS1 and Markus Suckut with Developer and you have the track "Reaching", while Mike Dehnert techno qualities shine through in "Run For The Dark". The final track of Archive 4 is "The Galaxian", which hovers above a drop that never comes, nestling into a dark and treacherous groove instead.

Sangre Por Oro
Horns From The West
The Truth
From The Womb
Review: Although his Modularz imprint has been receiving significant attention for its dark, textured take on techno functionalism, Developer's Archive imprint is an opportunity to showcase his own material on limited vinyl only runs. While the beautiful marble charcoal pressing would, in the hands of other labels, be to distract from below par music, there's nothing of the sort in evidence here, with the same intricate approach to sound design as contemporaries Silent Servant and Shifted. "Sangre Por Oro" takes a firm, yet ghostly stomp and foregrounds bleached out, ascending chords, while "Horns From The West" is an apt summation of its mood, with its Mariachi inspired melody and rolling drums. On the flip, "The Truth" goes for hypnotic key stabs shrouded in delay atop a rumbling rhythm, while "From The Womb" begins as an expectedly claustrophobic experience, with its muddy vocal snippet and shackling industrial rhythms, but slowly opening out with lighter hints of melody and gaseous atmospherics.

Developer - "Power Dynamics" (7:01)
Ascion - "Wrth 2" (4:36)
Developer - "Defined By Gravity" (6:59)
Ascion - "Exaline" (4:34)
Review: Next up on Modularz, ever-prolific label boss Developer has invited former guest Ascion back to contribute to a new split EP. Of course with Developer you always know where you stand, and sure enough the techno comes focused and functional on "Power Dynamics" where a minimum of elements is needed to stamp out an instructive techno command. "Defined By Gravity" is a busier affair with its off-key synth lines, but the beats stay right on course. Ascion however has a fuller sound that embraces bigger dynamics, even on a track as carefully steered as "Wrth 2". "Exaline" makes for the deepest kind of acid techno you could wish for, drowning the 303 in reverb for a wonderfully psychedelic effect.

Developer - "Mover Of The Mercury"
Developer - "Gaining"
Elyas - "Camberwell"
Ascion - "The Exporter"
Review: Modularz' commitment to straight up yet intricately textured techno continues, with part 2 of its tenth entry featuring label head Developer joined by another two kindred spirits in the form of Ascion and Elyas. Developer takes up the A-side with two tracks; "Mover Of The Mercury" combines linera, tribal drumming and bleak, distant drones, while "Gaining" is imbued with a surprisingly funky character a la Gesloten Cirkel, as dark synth horns snake around precision drums. On the flip, Elyas' "Camberwell" may seem to take its name from one of South London's more picturesque locations, but the slamming techno stabs and granite drums are anything but polite, recalling Shed's Equalized material; Ascion rounds things off with the trippiest cut on the record, as savage waveforms twist themselves around abstract atonal beeps.

DJ Surgeles - "Out Of This World" (2:01)
Review: US techno wizard Developer is back on his trusted Modularz imprint, this time alongside the lesser known DJ Surgeles, and the duo pack quite the punch with these five cold-hearted dance burners. Developer's "Infinite Numbers" opens on a bit of a cavernous tip, unleashing whole swarms of chilling bleeps over a stripped-back techno beat, and "Glimmer" ups the ante with yet more speed - and by that we mean velocity, not the powdered type! DJ Surgeles' "Hidden Places" opens the B-side with an echoing, hollow mass of drums and bass, while "Pulsating Orbs" bounces up and down with a distorted tone of voice, and "Out Of This World" steadies the ships by forming a thick, oozing layer of beatless ambience. A dish best served cold...

Developer - "The Ring For Madness"
NX1 - "MZ2"
Developer - "More Matter"
Adriana Lopez - "Estructura"
Review: As his Modularz series continues unabated, Developer drafts in another two friends for some diverse techno excursions. The man himself kicks things off with the creepy and cavernous "The Ring For Madness", using a menacing melodic loop to cycle over booming kicks and gaseous hits. NX1's "MZ2" is a thoroughly strict affair, with a lonesome kick running to catch up with hats whispering in the far, far distance, in a similar fashion to the equally hard boiled minimalism of Developer's "More Matter". Adriana Lopez warms things up, relatively speaking, with a melodic chord that pulses like a lighthouse through the middle of an equally reverb drenched grey and stormy techno workout.

Developer - "Sequence 85"
Developer - "Sequence 88"
Psyk - "Transito"
Rhomb - "Reboot"
Review: Creeping ever closer towards their third year of existence, Modularz have remained steadfast in their aesthetic approach, deftly combining the dynamism of straight up techno with an intricately textured approach that has proved enduringly rewarding. Label boss Developer once again features prominently on this Part One 12" of their tenth entry, contributing two A Side cuts to the face down contributions from Psyk and Rhomb. The expansive bassline to the opening track "Sequence 85" practically consumes you, with Developer's subsequent production "Sequence 88" is markedly sparser, allowing the rigid percussion and booming kicks centre stage. Last seen on Mote Evolver, Spaniard Psyk adds further balance with the subaqueous dub techno of "Transito" whilst the unknown quantity Rhomb is on electrifying form with the Mike Parker-esque "Reboot".

Review: Peak time experts Modularz return with more sturdy techno tools aimed squarely at darkly clandestine warehouse parties. Getting straight down to business is label head honcho Developer delivering the goods as always on "Horizon". His brutal displays of power always have a majestic charm about them, aesthetically, and have a powerfully hypnotic effect as well. On the flip, we have some more heavy duty artillery: namely the return of Conrad Van Orton! The Roman producer back in top form with his loopy trance induction exercise "Routine" while Paranoid Dancer boss Patrik Carrera (Planet Rhythm/Beard Man) turns in the tunnelling and strobe-lit journey down the vortex entitled "Nis". The Los Angeles based imprint has been in fine form of late, with some stellar releases by the likes of scene legends Mark Hawkins aka Juxta Position, Edit Select and one half of Exium - Kessell.
