Review: The Weekend Circuit imprint have had an impressive two years since their first release by Dax J back in 2013. Since then, they have released relentless dance floor missiles by the likes of Developer, Rommek and Italy's Antonio De Angelis. This week, the label inaugurate the start of their Ground Fault Interrupt series with a four-tracker by its best and brightest: "Knights Of The Round" by Dax J takes a menacing kick drum and chucks it over noisy melodies and hypnotic bundles of ambience, Yan Cook's "Hidden" is deeper and more dubbed-out, "Control Room" by Developer himself is a wonky techno brain-melter in true Detroit style, while Antonio De Angelis goes all icy and stiff-necked on the chilling beats of "Polar". A techno affair.

Techno
  1. Tiburon
  2. Shade
  3. Bodega
  4. Formu
Review: Developer continues his fine run of form with this EP for Gynoid Audio with four tracks of typically driving yet intelligent techno. "Tiburon" opens on a decidedly mechanistic tip, as factory line rhythms drive forward gaseous textures, while "Shade" is decidedly chunkier affair, with shackling hi-hats playing off against deep organ drones. On the flip, "Bodega" fills its rhythmic gaps with shrill bleeps and electro-acoustic tones, but it's "Formu" that's the real powerhouse of the release, as pounding kicks go head to head with undulating sheet metal chords.

  1. The Provoker
  2. Extension
  3. Alone
  4. Frames
Review: For power techno in 2013, all roads lead to Developer, and the first track from this EP, "The Provoker", draws parallels with some of the genres finest; namely Ben Klock's remix to Kerri Chandler's "Pong" and Marcel Fengler's string epic "Enigma". "Extension" is grubby, linear, and infinite techno that's slave to a four-four time signature, while "Alone" and "Frames" offer the dubby Berghain beats that he and Truncate do so well. Developer, take a bow.

  1. Signal 1
  2. Signal 2
  3. Signal 3
  4. Signal 4
Review: Adrian Sandoval aka Developer returns with his debut for the fledgling Weekend Circuit label! It's safe to say that Sandoval has steadily become one of modern techno's luminaries and with releases on labels such as Mote-Evolver, Semantica and his very own Modularz imprint, he has truly developed (sorry) his own sound into the history of contemporary techno. This time, you got four tracks, "Signals" 1-4 and each one is a certified murderer on the ol' Funktion One. Industrial, grey-scaled melodies and fervently stripped-back grooves create a true sense of apocalyptic madness. The man's picked up where Sandwell District picked off and we love him for it. Essential techno bangers.

  4. Chain Of Life (7:00)
Review: Following up the last couple of heavy hitting releases by Mark Hawkins aka Marquis Hawkes: he now hands over the reins to Modularz main man Developer for the label's third edition. Starting off with the tunnelling hypnotism of "Snap Over", the A side is completed by the gritty and retro influenced peak time stomper "Natives Calling". On the flip, the classic techno sounds continue on "Get It On" (channelling the timeless sounds of Djax Up Beats or Robert Armani) while "Chain Of Life" treads a similar path, but in a more evocative and uplifting way that artists like KiNK are exploring of late. With its catchy house organs and detailed 909 drum machine rides it is sure to get some hi-octane energy levels happening.

  3. Eduardo De La Calle - "The Solution"
  4. Developer - "Under"
Review: The steadily-rising Modularz imprint strikes back once more with some killer, no-nonsense techno wares from Developer and Eduardo De La Calle. Developer's tracks plumb bleak depths, where the only tones allowed into the mix clang in atonal disharmony. De La Calle's "The Solution" has a little more warmth in its pulsing dub chords, but still maintaining that linear function for elongated mixes and hypnotic sets. The real jam is Developer's funky-assed "Under" which gets its jack off the nagging hi-hat, while the cavernous hits punch out off beat for a devastating rhythmic slayer which should get techno heads body popping like there's no tomorrow morning.

  3. Developer - "More Seduction"
  4. Fanon Flowers - "Prado Obscuro"
Review: US label Modularz returns with another split 12" boasting a remix from Sandwell District don Silent Servant. The Revisited EP opens with the wonderfully unhinged techno of "Revister" by Modularz regular Developer. This vies for your attention on an A-Side boasting a remix of Developer's "Edificio" by the aforementioned Silent Servant, which chugs along with rasping hats and cavernous low frequencies. The last time we heard Fanon Flowers the American producer was TCB on a sumptuous EP for the Sect imprint, and here the producer maintains that form with the moody late night jack of "Prado Obscuro". This is accompanied by the thick loopy melodies of Developer's "More Seduction", rounding off another killer release from a label that is fast gaining a place in Juno's affections.

  4. Developer - "Indigenous"
Review: With every release Spanish duo Exium do it's like they grow an extra muscle, and at the moment they're starting to look like a well conditioned iron man. This split release with fellow booming techno cohort Developer sees the duo, on their side of the EP, deliver a stripped and sinisterly grubby "Diverse Population", while "Pulstar" sounds like a reserved and dubbed-out Sandwell District production. On the Developer-side the American provides a drivelling up-and-down arpeggio in "Promiscuous", while there's only two words that can really explain "Indigenous" properly: Developer techno.
