Daniele Baldelli - "Jazz Carnival" (5:02)
Azymuth - "Young Embrace" (Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi remix) (4:15)
Daniele Baldelli - "Young Embrace" (3:22)
Review: The legendary Discoteca Cosmic resident Daniele Baldelli played these two tracks by MPB-jazz group Azymuth in his DJ sets extensively back in 1979. Today he remixes and models them as he deems most suited to a Cosmic DJ set. Their famous hit 'Jazz Carnival' is reworked as a hypnotic and bass-driven stomper in conjunction with Marco Dionigi (Quantistic Division), while Baldelli flies solo for a low slung cover version up next. Over on the flip, Baldelli taps Dionigi one more time for a session of meditative slo-mo tribal groove on their rework of 'Young Embrace' also taken from the acclaimed Light As A Feather LP.

Review: They don't come much more legendary than DJ and producer Daniele Baldelli. Whenever he steps out with any sort of new project it is always worth giving it your full attention. Cosmic Drag is a record inspired by his time as resident DJ at Cosmic, a nightclub by Lake Garda that it is where Baldelli honed his craft and eventually earned his glowing international reputation. He played records at the wrong speed, layered in effects and drum machines and generally wrote his own rule book. This album pays homage to all that with its era-spanning disco and cosmic sounds, hypnotic drums and hints of everything from Afro to electro.

33 VS 45 (3:36)
Review: It's been emotional... A year and a half since "Cosmic Temple 1" first landed, Italian legend Baldelli hits the sixth and final chapter of his series. Across the collection we've experienced some of his wildest ideas and inspirations and it seems he's saved some of the best for last. Don't be alarmed if you lose hair, hours of your life and your mind to the dubby eastern horns and cosmic bubbling 303 of "Taxon", the glam psych guitar jamboree of "Kevlar" and slap bass and sparkling synth syncopation of "33 VS 45". Long may Baldelli continue to don the dance in this esoteric way.

Kata Sandi (6:28)
Esaedro (6:11)
Dioxide (4:46)
Review: Daniele Baldelli: Unquestionably one of DJ culture's longest-standing and furthest-thinking selectors drops the penultimate edition of his epic "Cosmic Temple" series with three more exception slabs of creative disco fusion. "Kata Sandi" is a cloud-leaping homage to the new romantic with just a dash of futurism with the trippy roboticised voice processing, "Esaedro" goes for a much more direct dancefloor approach with strong references to Moroder in the initial groove before daringly flipping to a much warmer, smoother jazz dynamic mid-way. Finally "Dioxide" closes the show on a freakier note as a beautifully processed human voice elements are twist inside out with an almost animated energy. Quintessential Baldelli.

Gandharva (6:12)
Kosmaro (5:14)
Isotropofunk (5:20)
Review: The cover artwork for this third installment in Daniele Baldelli's Cosmic Temple series appears to have been designed by someone under the influence of 1960s strength acid. In many ways, it's fitting, because the music inside is deliciously trippy. Like previous installments in the series, Baldelli is happy to mix things up musically, with the Balearic-inclined Italo-disco dreaminess of A-side "Gandharva" being contrasted by the live-sounding, rock-tinged cosmic disco-funk of "Kosmaro". As for closer "Isotropofunk", it sees Baldelli doing his best Bob James impression, with suitably solid results.

Joka Joka (6:00)
Vhanessa (4:48)
Archetipo (6:29)
Review: Daniele Badlelli's Cosmic Temple series reaches its fourth chapter, and as usual the Italian legend is in a typically mixed-up mood. Somewhat surprisingly, opener "Joka Joka" sounds like an Afro-cosmic take on Acid Jazz (think jaunty clavs, Tony Allen rhythms, hearty African vocals and goatee-sporting saxophone solos). On the flip, Baldelli goes back to his roots with the sharp guitar solos, kosmiche synths and metronomic, Italo-disco grooves of "Vhanessa", before pitching things down to minus eight with the outer-space synth chug of "Archetipo". With its' delay-laden drum hits, heady sound effects and killer analogue bassline, it's the closest thing on the EP to the cosmic disco blueprint.

Diffrazione (5:25)
Inner Light (4:42)
Review: Cosmic don Baldelli commences a new six part project that will culminate in a mix and some beautiful six-piece 12" sleeve art collage. Igniting as he means to go on, each cut shakes and struts with distinctive aspects of Daniele's signature style: "Thyratron" is a ballroom jazz anthem-in-waiting with lavish piano splatters over an insistent disco chug, "Diffrazione" takes us much deeper into Baldelli's psyche with soaring, heavily processed guitars and synths freaking out over a pulsating bulbous bass bed while "Inner Light" brings us back into reality with a mildly Nordic piece of pop-oriented disco, all sensual, breathy vocals and a twinkling synth groove. Bring on the next chapter.

Review: For a man whose legendary status has long been assured - he was, after all, the original cosmic disco DJ - it would be fair to say that Daniele Baldelli's production record is patchy, at best. It's heartening to report, then, that Cosmic Drag, his first solo full-length since 2009, is arguably his strongest release to date. Typically trippy and blessed with both psychedelic electronics, and vintage analogue synthesizers, it joins the dots between experimental Italian synth-wave, chugging electronic disco, yearning drum machine funk, glassy-eyed soundscapes and pitched-down disco-funk, all the while sounding like it could have been recorded in the DJ's late '70s and early '80s heyday.

Review: Cosmic Drag precedes the most intriguing of forthcoming releases; a full album of original material from cosmic disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli for Japanese label Endless Flight. Baldelli is of course no stranger to the album format, but recently he's largely been seen colluding on LPs with his prolific compatriot Marco Dionigi. Whilst the full details on the album are as yet unannounced, Cosmic Drag will keep any current disco selectors more than satisfied with four cuts that cover various moods and tempos. The title track is a soaring Italo number that should be used as evidence when people ask you to define cosmic disco, whilst "Desmodromico" has a touch of the vintage In Flagranti grot about it. "Lowride" slows the pace down, with Baldelli riding a killer slo-mo funk groove and "Mooneyes" is as star gazing as the name suggests.

The end result is predictably stunning with highlights coming from all angles... Review: KZA's Let's Get Lost label has established itself as a worthy outlet for diverse edited material from the hoi polloi of revered crate diggers, with previous releases coming from the likes of like JD Twitch, Jacques Renault and Eddie C. The label's 21st offering is undoubtedly their most comprehensive release to date, welcoming Italo Disco innovator Daniele Baldelli into the fold with an eight track, double 12" cosmic transmission. Naturally given the length, Baldelli canvasses an array of styles, like the post punk and jazz fusion of "Dark Sax", the pulsating future disco of "Teens & Teens" or the Studio 54 referencing "Portorico". Baldelli also dips into some more down-tempo, ambient and darker italo stylings with "Tunnel", while taking a Latin approach with "Conflitto Mexicano".

Review: For all his skills as a DJ - and, let's face it, he pretty much created the Afro-cosmic DJ style all on his own - Daniele Baldelli's productions have not always hit the mark. It's heartening to report, then, that this collaboration with Dario Piana for Leng Records is arguably the best thing he's produced to date. "Infinity Machine", where wild, effects-laden Clavinet lines, jammed-out electric piano chords and meandering synthesizer solos ride a particularly druggy arpeggio bassline, sets the tone magnificently, before the Italian duo jogs towards dub disco territory on the percussion rich "If You Drive". Badlelli's love of spacey synths, crunchy guitars and tactile synth bass comes to the fore on closer "Air Vibes", which also boasts a wonderfully tactile breakdown.

Massive Birth (Mind Fair remix) (5:43)
Review: Coolly stepping out like a white-suited player on a Miami club strip, the high expectations set by any mention of Italian disco pioneer Daniele Baldelli are easily matched by the opener and title number. And things really only get better from there.
'Massive Birth' is an intelligent, freeform outing on a half-time, DJ Rocca's ever-tight drum programming clearly having some influence on the complex percussive patterns. On the flip, Mind Fair have their way with that original, turning it into a more grounded four-four workout if you listen beyond the top layer of rolls and snare crashes. For many, though, this one will be all about the Warehouse Preservation Society remix of 'Taylorpo', which puts Italo right back at the top of the disco agenda, sounding at once space age yet nostalgic, and unquestionably, unstoppably danceable.

Review: The fabulous "Funkynoizer" is typical of Daniele Baldelli and DJ Rocca's previous collaborative work, melding as it does spacey, cosmic electronics and alien noises with delay-laden guitar flourishes, funk-fuelled bass and dubbed-out horn lines. It's really rather good and comes accompanied by a trio of remixes. Selvagem embraces the duo's instinctive musical insanity while dragging "Funknoizer" further towards dub disco territory, before Pete Herbert and Dicky Trisco lay down a summery, dub-flecked Balearic disco interpretation. DJ Rocca rounds things off with a "Boogie" mix of his own that cannily draws out the original's synth bassline while adding jangling piano riffs seemingly inspired by Cheryl Lynn's "To Be Real".

Review: Chug factor set to stun, two outright disco legends team up on Nein for three slabs of wriggling, giggling analogue fun and one remix. "Kachiri" is quite the head-turner, all psychedelic and densely weaved with meandering top lines that counter against each other. "Pink Ghost" is a much darker slice, conjuring up echoes of early Black Strobe with its detuned undertones and stately risers while "Volupia" rolls on a broken beat rhythm with sweeping pads and cool 808 clicks and whirrs. Tronik Youth takes care of closing duties with a deeper, darker take on "Kachiri". With the trippiness switched for drones and a ploughman kick drum, it's yet another gold star for the Nein Records boss.

Review: Is It Balearic...? recordings latest is the Reflextion EP from Baldelli & Rocca. 3 electronic disco bombs and a quality remix from Ray Mang. Reflextion is a driving synth Italo disco stomper. Mr Mang adds a little acid and a touch of house. Side B's first track is a classically Italo disco dancefloor gem - lots of synth action and a flappy percussion give this a hypnotic quality ready for some smoke drenched dancefloors. Out To Lunch is a more quirky take on the same theme like a lost maxi 12 b-side of an Italian electro pop track from the late 80's. Great EP.

Review: For those with an interest in the lefttield side of European disco, the recent renaissance of legendary Italian DJ Daniele Baldelli has been an exciting development. For those outside of Northern Italy, Baldelli remained a marginal figure for many years. Although he - and, it could be argued, compatriot Beppe Loda - invented the "cosmic disco" sound in the late 1970s and early 80s, it's only in the last decade that the sound has been celebrated across the globe. This collaborative EP with fellow Italian spinner DJ Rocca is his first release since 2009. It sees the duo give contemporary nudisco a fresh new twist, adding obvious Italo, cosmic and old skool electro influences. Nowhere is this more evident than on lead track "RoBa Che Scotta", where the veteran duo add simplistic, stargazing melodies to a rough, appregiated groove. There's beauty within the heavy analogue beats and bassline, but they never lose sight of the dancefloor. Ichisan provides a slightly grubbier, disco-centric rework for those who dig straight-up nudisco. The EP finishes with the title track. Similarly melodic and intergalactic in its construction, 'Space Scribble' has an endearing, child-like quality thanks to a sprightly mix of original electro beats, swirling chords and analogue synth riffery. It's a great end to Baldelli's best EP yet.

Review: Legendary label Le Disque celebrates its 35th Anniversary with this new various artists EP offering up the sort of sumptuous sounds it is so well known for. Cosmic legend Daniele Baldelli gets first with the driving Italo techno-disco of 'Promeni' while GNMR bangs the box with his leggy 909 drum pings and heady synth swirls on 'Modulo Rmx Downtempo V1.' On the flip, Tagliabue's 'Sogno Cosmico' is a deep and pulsing techno cut that roams at a slower tempo but is no less effective, then Simone Bauer's 'Gigantomachia' is a hyperactive and cutting edge rhythm piece that never sits still and is dark as you like in its ritualistic dance manoeuvres.

This time out he serves up Alloteva, a first joint release with Marco Diongi for the label. Baldelli always manages to show a different look with each and every release and this one is no different - it offers big, cowbell laced cosmic disco with plenty of loose limbed drums and throbbing synths. 'Alloteva' opens up with a patter of toms and congas and squelchy bass, then 'Deflector' sinks deep and low, with seductive pads and balmy sunset sax lines. There are playful funk riffs underpinning 'Sonora' and leggy kicks and snappy hits making 'Time Is Plastic' a real chugger.

However, for our money it's the inclusions from recent 2x12 Let's Get Lost 23 that really stand out with the spiky disco punk "Gregory Band," full on psyche rock ("Noia Noia") and the glamorous strut of "Hello" particularly good.

Review: KZA's long running Let's Get Lost series continues it's relentless slalom through the edit scene, inviting famed Italian cosmic voyager Daniele Baldelli and his prolific compatriot Marco Dionigi back for more cross genre oddities. Much like the duo's debut for Let's Get Lost, this new edition packs a hefty eight cuts spread across the two platters and from the cosmic leaning of opening cut "Frozen" Daniele and Marco run the gamut of spiky disco punk ("Gregory Band") full on psyche rock ("Noia Noia") and everything in-between. Fans of vintage In Flagranti disco sleaze will particularly enjoy the glamorous strut of "Hello".

Review: While Marco Dionigi seemingly knocks out an album as regularly as most people brush their teeth, his collaborations with cosmic disco originator Daniele Baldelli are frustratingly rare. Adaptors, then, is a cause for celebration - particularly as it's arguably the duo's best collaborative work yet. It sees them re-editing, remixing and remaking tracks by New York-based veteran electronic composer Richard Bone, whose early alternative and New Wave records have long been a staple of Badelli's DJ sets. Musically, the duo breathes new life into Bone's quirky compositions, turning them into druggy cosmic disco anthems, cosmic rock chuggers and slo-mo synth pop gems.

Cosmic disco legend Daniele Baldelli is enjoying recognition these days like never before, and now he's back alongside Marco Fratty with his first album in five years. As you would expect from something with Baldelli's magic touch, there's a warm '70s flavour to the music on offer here, but it's also rendered in pristine modern production quality. Particular highlights across this two disc set include the sweet flute-riffing of "Jasmine Flavour" and the freaky vocoder trip outs of "Slinky Funk", but truthfully the bar remains high throughout this impeccably executed slice of spaced-out disco business.

Review: DJ pioneer and Balearic forefather Daniele Baldelli originally released his Baia Degli Angeli 1977-1978 album way back in 2005 on CD. It has now been pressed to vinyl across a series of different installments and this third part comes on two 12"s. It is jam-packed with rarities and anthems from Baia 77/78 and on the inside cover is the Antibaia strip, a historic comic drawn by Andrew Joseph Corsaletti. Musically it's a dazzling mix of disco, Balearic and smooth sunset sounds that ooze class. Another essential outing from the one and only Daniele Baldelli.

Review: Legendary DJ and producer Daniele Baldelli has put his name to many different compilations in his time, and plenty have been on this Use Vinyl label such as Cosmic Drag and Baia Degli Angeli 1977-1978. Now he's back with a second volume of his Cosmic Step album collection which comes across two slabs of wax and includes a lovely coaster. These are disco not disco sounds with stiff synths and rugged arps over steely retro-future drum machine sounds. Kraut, wave, psych, funk and many other influences colour the tunes and help make it such a top collection.
