Review: Chris Carrier is a long-time part of the underground. The Frenchman has released on a fine array of labels and served up plenty of ever-evolving sounds. For this one he digs into electro, tech, house and minimal starting with the praying loops and intergalactic turbulence of 'The Infinity Gate.' It's a noisy and intense one for the peak of the night while 'The Way To The Stars' is a more smooth grooving tune with nimble drums and bass. 'The Roaming' then rides on a bumping drum and bass comb that is run through with sleek and searching synth rays and last of all 'Spacevax' offers a clean and crisp electro-tinged beat on which to vibe while the sci-fi chords rain down from above with real elegance.

Review: Slum Science's Hudd Traxx is a label that just won't quit when it comes to proper, head-tripping house music for those who like their grooves serious. That makes Chris Carrier a natural participant, and the unstoppable Frenchman steps up here with a record that proves both his and the label's long-lasting appeal. "Cycle Psycho" is a simmering tech house belter with the requisite amount of funk rubbed into its limbs, while "Dimension 5" switches stance for a nagging acid workout. On the flip "Smoke And Flesh" brings a tougher thrust to the drums and then "Flying Sausage" cools the EP down with a simply fantastic deep house bump to get heads nodding all over the butchers shop.

Review: French veteran Chris Carrier first released material on Adult Only way back in 2000, and has made regular appearances on the label ever since. Here, he delivers his 11th EP for the imprint, offering up a pair of impressive collaborations in his trademark hazy, intoxicated, tech-tinged deep house style. There's a toasty warmth and impressive swing to the bouncing Hector Moralez hook-up "Galactical Dance Mate", which makes great use of sampled clarinets, far-sighted chords and barely audible vocal samples. Djebali provides the obligatory remix, turning the original into a Rbsoul style tech-house roller. Arguably even better is Carrier and Djebali's "BattleStar", a formidably percussive sprint into heavily percussive late night tech-house territory.

Review: King of the underground Parisian scene Chris Carrier delves deep into his acid house and classic old skool rhythm influences to bring you the 1000 Reasons EP on Catwash Records. Oddly the vocal in title track "1000 Reasons" only asks for one reason? Well, the 303 bassline alone is enough of a reason to catapult it straight into record bags and onto the dancefloor. "Liquid Harmony" bends to the groovier and more sensual side of Carrier as he showcases brilliant drum arrangements and crisp high ends. On the B-Side DJ W!LD takes "Liquid Harmony" into percussive and sexy realms, a whispered vocal lifting things to another level.

Review: Part 2 begins in a much more chipper mood. "Calais Douvres" seems to spill a joyous attitude out of every hole. A bristling beat and hollow percussion sets the tone from the off before Carrier's signature groove swings in and sweeps the listener off their feet and on a fun filled ride.
"Quadrilette" keeps a similar attitude, but this time adds a churning bassline that is so raw you can hear it rattling away at its deepest depth. Tribal-like percussion adds the funk and the tone is lightened further by the female vocal as made famous by Til West's "Same Man." Ending with the drum led "Le Divan Japonais," the release saunters into a rhythmic groove. Sub bass murmurs beneath the percussion at first but then makes itself more prominent as Carrier lets loose.

Both of these influences can be heard in Carrier's music, as he attempts to bring the best parts of both sounds together into one place. He manages this task with a seemingly natural ease here.

Review: French house producer Chris Carrier will release his debut full length album on Phil Weeks Robosoul imprint at the end of this month. The LP will be released in two parts first though, displaying the Frenchman's love of vintage music fused with contemporary dance music.
Carrier has been an underground icon for well over a decade now, incredibly notching up over one hundred records and remixes across a plethora of labels. Without doubt one of the most prolific producers around, until now he has never had a full length release. Gosse De Paris is a tribute to his home city of Paris in addition to his influences of his early days. Indeed the album's title is French for ‘The Kid from Paris.’ He explores his early influences amongst musicians such as Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones. As a result, Gosse De Paris blends disco, funk, house and techno all into one, ultra engaging record. Old samples amalgamate with new technologies; retro piano stabs happily sit alongside futuristic synths as dynamic beats fuse with a classic style.
Part 1 opens with "Cabaret Des Belles Lettres," summing up Carrier's approach perfectly. A classic sounding, soul vocal is joined by a dubby beat, bringing an old sound right up to today. This would get any club moving, as it gets the release off to a driving start. "Cancan" is modern funk in its purest form. A rolling bassline and vintage keys are joined by sleek electronics later in the track, making it once more, perfect for the dancefloor. Closing off Part 1 "Les Faubourgs De Grenelle" returns to a dub ethos, but adds warm synth parts and takes a much easier going stance than its two predecessors.

With more than 100 releases, his productions are played by DJ's like Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak. Here is his new EP, in our opinion it is one of his best ever! "Black Flag" is a combination of James Holden's style, acid and German electro. It sounds like a future classic. "Illusion" is a deeper track, with nice melodies which find a perfect place after-hours sets.

Review: He runs labels like Adult Only and Catwash (together with DJ Wild ), produces and mixes for respected imprints such as Robsoul, Nightshift, Get Physical, Detour, Etroneek Funk and constantly smashes up clubs worldwide with his DJ mixes between house, acid and electro - don't you ask yourself how Chris Carrier keeps up this crazy schedule? well, he finally reveals his secret, snatches off his mask and reveals a snarl of wires, circuit boards, touch and tactile sensors: he's an Android! with the swirling, hypnotic deep electrohouse makeover of the Kraftwerk classic "wir sind die roboter" he presents himself as the most recent and powerful design of entertainment androids that was modelled after those German steel characters with the red shirts, dark ties and the accurately parted plastic hair - designed for the sole purpose of bringing humans pleasure and make them shake their thing. Is that last statement really true? Sceptics are regularly pacified with the argument that those cute androids are devoid of human emotions, but why does Chris Carrier attack C&S label head by calling the reduced, dangerously simmering and sizzling stomper on the flip: "I hate Jef K"? seems like "More Human Than Human" wasn't only Tyrell's motto.
