Bip Bam (Thank You Ma'am)
Cat: ATH 067. Rel: 26 Jul 18
Funk
  1. Bip Bam (Thank You Ma'am) (Part 1) (3:07)
  2. Bip Bam (Thank You Ma'am) (Part 2) (3:02)
Review: So good it spills over into two parts, Bill Brown's cult 1974 Brownstone release "Bip Bam" has been known to pass hands for triple figures in the past. Now you can enjoy its sweeping MGs style lavish organ and horn fusion at a fraction of the price. Deep, soulful, laced with infectious percussion and Bill's swooning scat vocal textures, this still sounds of its world and time to this day.

Dreamworld Fantasies
Cat: SDE 51. Rel: 28 Sep 20
Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Dreamworld Fantasies (4:13)
  2. Stay Off The Moon (2:33)
Review: Bill Brown and Al Hall jr met in 1971 in south central LA and shared the same flat as jazz man Doug Carn and Brownstone vocalist Billy Wilson. They often played together and some of the sessions gave rise to the two hard to find tracks offered up here. 'Dreamworld Fantasie' is a first release of an unissued 1977 disco and soul gem that muses on how we'd all like our lives to be - and right now such escapist vibes have never been more in need. Flip it over and you'll find a rare though previously released 1971 single 'Stay Off The moon', which delivers a poignant political message that resonates to this day.

Love Under The Apple Tree
  1. Love Under The Apple Tree (3:23)
  2. Fool-ology (3:24)
Review: As with many of Super Disco Edits recent releases, "Love Under The Apple Tree" was never released when Bill Brown and the Soul Injection recorded it way back in 1971. While the track was later re-recorded with a different vocalist and backing band, this is the first time soul and funk heads have been able to purchase Brown and company's arguably superior original take. Interestingly, it was recorded at a high-profile Hollywood studio and you can tell. Brown's lead vocal, the female backing singers and the assembled players - drums, bass, glistening guitars and hazy horns - all sparkle thanks to a genuinely high quality production. This isn't quite the case with the spacey and bustling flipside "Fool-ology", which sounds like (an albeit high quality) demo recording.
