Review: Mystery Circles is busy at the moment with a great series of tapes, albums and 7"s all dropping in relatively quick succession. This one is a nice heavy 180-gram vinyl long player with only 100 copies pressed. It's Brooklyn's Tyler Gilmore, aka BlankFor.ms, at his best, if you ask us. His highly textured ambient uses gorgeous spinet piano, dusty and degraded tapes and analog synthesisers to make for something that evokes deep memories and transports you to places you had long forgotten. It is a touching record that leaves an indelible mark.

Review: Incredibly powerful stuff, Blazing Worlds - AKA Justin Wright & Grant Corum - recorded their self-titled latest album over a long summer in the US Midwest. Evidently inspired by what conditions were like, the official release information here opens with a reference to J.G. Ballard's landmark science fiction, The Drowned World, which, for all intents and purposes, could become a reality in the next few centuries. A planet so scorched lagoon waters that have flooded cities seem to burn by midday, there's a sense of rising temperatures about this truly hallucinatory album. Drone, ambient, use whatever label you prefer, this feels like you're either orbiting the sun itself, or looking out on lands that have long since succumbed to desertification, wondering when the scorching dunes might give way to some place more liveable. Atmospheric, futuristic, and deeply effective.

Review: Those of a certain vintage may remember Blue, an IDM and ambient techno duo who released a string of pleasingly otherworldly EPs and albums in the late '90s. The Path of Least Resistance Meets The Point of No Return marks the duo's return to action after 22 years, albeit via a set of tracks originally intended to be released as an ambient album back in 2001. These updated and reworked versions are apparently different to those in their archives, but that doesn't matter; what's on offer is becalmed, otherworldly, often unusual and uniformly emotive, with highlights including the squelchy bass and elongated organ chords of 'Spacepport', the Pete Namlook style ambience of 'Ava X', the deep space symphony that is 'She Found The Colours' and the becalmed brilliance of 'Crystalline Form'.

Review: Mark Gomes turned plenty of heads with his debut album back in 2015. Back then, it was only ever released on limited edition cassette, but now that wrong is righted with a vinyl release via Belgium label BAADM. Six years on, the heart breaking soundscapes still draw you in. On tracks like 'Chrysanthemum No 1' tender piano keys ring out into pregnant empty space, heavy chords resonate and the whole thing serves to sooth your woes. 'Meadowsweet' is another bittersweet piece with piano that speaks of pain, but also subtle hope. Closer 'Bleeding Heart' marries organic keys with synthesised sound to make for a more fulsome track, but one that still makes its point in a gentle, beautiful fashion.

Review: Born in Cannes in 1943, Michele Bokanowski has become a towering figure in the world of composing electroacoustic music. The Frenchwoman lives in Paris and this new and comprehensive four-CD collection brings together all the concert music she ever played. It is an ambitious release but a vital one that spans 1974 to 2020. Michele mainly composes for concert and for cinema but has also done so for TV, dance and theatre. She brings her own sense of mysterious atmosphere and poetic concrete sounds - which result from her studying music concrete - all with an artful cinematic editing job to finish it off.

Review: Experimental American producer Ben Bondy released his beautifully escapist cassette album Camo back in early 2022 after serving up one of 2021's finest records with Glans Intercum. Finally it makes its way on to vinyl and is one of the finest ways to soothe the soul and empty the mind of clutter we have heard this year. It is musical for daydreaming, a subtle but sonically stuffed mix of abstract field recordings, deep sonic pulses and ambient pads that drift by like wispy clouds on a sunny day. Rainy textured and scratchy surfaces, distant watery drips and muted melodies, bird calls and the sound of a breeze through long grass all make it beautifully evocative.

Bonnet in 2019 for the first volume of Cylene - a formidable exploration of sustained frequencies from a multitude of sources released on Editions Mego. Since then the pair have embarked on numerous concerts, installations and recordings, finally resulting in this sublime sequel. This is music to zoom in on, where the slow shifts in tone are sometimes imperceptible, but profound to those that hear them. Review: The more discerning and concentrated electro head will be tuned into the work of Bot1500. It is an alias of Shinichi Kobayashi, a producer who since 2018 has landed on the likes of Analogical Force and Furthur Electronix with a unique mix of futurist sounds. This one is another brilliant EP featuring cuts like 'Chartreuse 8.' It's a propulsive rhythm built from silky breaks and overlaid with the sort of heart-aching and thought-provoking chords that will send you inward on the dance floor. Review: The superb Greyscale project from the Lithuanian label continues with another gorgeous album, Strange Fog. It's a split release that finds Genning on the first six tunes and BOTN on the last five. These are evocative and picturesque ambient pieces that invite you deep into wide open spaces and have you gazing at the sonic scenery. Things start lo-fi and rather foggy but delicate melodies bright light and hope as the album plays out and you are cast ever more adrift from the real world and all the nagging anxieties that come with it.

Review: Chase Smith aka the W.T. Records and Apartment associate and documentary filmmaker Christa Majoras are back as brainwave research center with their second full length, Mosaic. Once again the sonically inquisitive pair mix up analogue synths with electro-acoustic experiments, epic and adventurous soundscapes and plenty of raw texture, hooky pop melodies and innocent rhythms. Along the way the duo take influence from their heroes including Ennio Morricone, John Carpenter and Kraftwerk on a record that was laid down in the back of Smith's synthesizer repair shop. It's an absorbing listen once more from this increasingly vital pair.

Review: Cate Brooks is now up to a seventh release on Clay Pipes and with each new outing she always evolves. 'Easel Studies' is no different and sees the artist going further than ever before beyond the pale when it comes to sound synthesis and experimentation on the Buchla Music Easel. What results is melody that's both abstract and alien but still beautifully compelling. She layers it up in hypnotic fashion across ten tracks that range from the cosmic to the synthetic, the ambient to more rhythmic. It's the sort of record to put on loud and tune in to closely and lose all sense of space and time.

In the early 80s, she released a run of new age recordings which helped define the emergent genre, and now stand proud as landmark works which reach beyond the usual sonic platitudes to strike some compelling chords.1981 album Sounds Of The Sea is now being reissued for the first time by Numero Group and its relevance feels all the more pointed in the wider appreciation and prevalence of ambient music in the present day. Mysterious and captivating in equal measure, it's a marvel of dense pad drones and soaring flute that perfectly evokes its aquatic muse.
