  1. Floorplan - "Never Grow Old" (Mark Broom dubplate mix) (5:38)
  2. Mark Broom - "Jungle" (5:21)
  3. Floorplan - "He Can Save You" (Re-Plant) (8:53)
Review: Some tip-top Transatlantic business here, as EPM Music brings together Motor City legend Robert Hood AKA Floorplan, and veteran UK techno producer Mark Broom. There's a treat on side A as Broom finally allows us access to one of his secret weapons: a previously dubplate-only remix he did of the Floorplan gospel-techno throbber "Never Grow Old". Broom's version is tough and percussive, but also makes great use of rumbling bass, restless organ stabs and glassy-eyed late night rave riffs. Broom's own techno jack-track "Jungle" - a blizzard of distorted percussion and wild electronic noises - opens side B, before Hood offers up a chunky "Re-Plant" of classic Floorplan roller "He Can Save You". It not only features spoken word preacher-man vocals, but also a mind-altering riff reminiscent of Lil' Louis classic "French Kiss".

  1. Aquatrak (FM AM mix) (7:53)
  2. Amerikadegari (453-459 mix) (7:21)
  3. Hurricane (Purple mix) (6:25)
Review: Norwegian producer Henning Severud AKA Telephones has decided to launch his own label. Fittingly, he handles the imprint's debut himself, dipping into his archive to serve up three tracks recorded at different times between 1998 and 2018. Our pick of a warm, colourful and loved-up bunch is "Aquatrak (FM AM Mix)", where jangling, Balearic house style piano riffs and dreamy chords splash around atop a chunky disco bassline and rolling drums. The quality threshold remains high throughout, though, with the '90s New Jersey-influenced deep house flex of "Amerikadegari (453-459 Mix)" and the late '80s Italian deep house vibes of "Hurricane (Purple Mix)" being almost equally as good.

Powerful wavetable & virtual analogue software synthesiser
Notes: An immensely powerful wavetable and virtual analogue software synthesiser, 20 years in the making. This is Pigments, and it's going to change the way you make music.

Taking that spark of imagination and transforming it into sound is the most fundamental, exhilarating part of creating music. Pigments makes that process natural, intuitive, and colourful.

Pigments gives you the finest elements ever found in a software instrument, letting you create pioneering, exciting, and deeply personal sounds. Laying everything out before you, Pigments lets you fully express your creativity in a way that's never been seen before in a software instrument.

Pigments features a twin audio engine, letting you mix virtual analogue and wavetable oscillators to create the perfect starting point for your patch. You can even morph wavetables, or import your own.

What you do next is up to you. Experiment with 3 envelopes, 3 LFOs, and 3 function generators. Assign modulators to animate your sound, and breathe life into it. Add controlled, or totally wild random changes to any parameter with a Turing probability generator. Run it through 2 filters, with any combination of iconic analogue filters or modern formant and surgeon filters you want. Process your patch with exciting contemporary effects like wavefolder and multifilter, or vintage studio reverbs, delays, and EQs.

For 20 years, we have been analysing, emulating, and refining the most iconic synthesisers ever made.

Working with Dr Robert Moog, Cameron Jones, and many other industry legends, we have built our reputation on creating world-class instruments. We turned the music industry on its head with the release of our trailblazing, affordable analogue hardware synthesiser, the MiniBrute.

With multiple awards under our belt, you could say that we've done our homework. Pigments combines our passion for vintage FM and analogue sound with modern wavetable synthesis to create what is, to us, the ultimate software synth.

Smoky Clinic EP (reissue) (12" Nachpressung)

Deep House
  1. X-Rays (7:08)
  2. Underwater Acid (6:50)
  3. Hocus Pocus (7:00)
  4. Starship (6:29)
Review: When Mark Ambrose's "Smoky Clinic EP" first appeared in record stores way back in 1997, tech-house was still a relatively new phenomenon. Ambrose's productions were in keeping with the freshly minted style's original ethos, fixing the futurism and sci-fi intent of Detroit techno to the rhythmical approach of New York and Chicago house. As this reissue proves, the record has aged well, sounding as deep, melodiously, hypnotic and far-sighted in 2018 as it did in '97. While there is one trip into tougher, slightly darker territory - see "Hocus Pocus" - it's the blissful, intergalactic melodiousness of tracks like "Starship" and dreamy opener "X-Rays" that lingers in the memory.

  1. Bad Trip (5:43)
  2. Tune In Space (5:49)
  3. Alpha 101 (6:27)
  4. Dark Space (6:48)
Review: Over the last year or two, Darren "Dawl" Woollard has proved to be one of British techno's most on-point revivalists. Here he pops up on Libertine with more mind-altering peak-time fare full of subtle references to records of old. There's something particularly wild and psychedelic about EP opener "Bad Trip", a throbbing chunk of mid-tempo techno rich in ghostly chords, glassy-eyed spoken word samples and layer upon layer of TB-303 acid lines. "Tune In Space" doffs a suitably oversized cap to "bleep and breaks" style early UK hardcore (think "LFO" chords, "Testone" bleeps, heavy sub bass and skittish drums), while "Alpha 101" sounds like the kind of record "Evil" Eddie Richards might have made around 1990. "Dark Space" meanwhile, is a killer electro cut laden in bleep-style melodies.

  2. Warrior - "The MBO Theme" (9:29)
Review: During a record digging trip to South Africa a year or two back, Rush Hour co-founder Antal stumbled on an obscure local cover of Klein & MBO's Ron Hardy and Larry Levan favourite, "The MBO Theme". The Warrior version, which was recorded at some point in the early '80s, is a little slower and breezier than Klein and MBO's original, with even finer fretless bass flavours and the track's famous melodies re-played on some particularly spacey synthesizers. Helpfully, the Klein & MBO version is on the A-side, so you can easily compare the two: Warriors' little known cover is definitely our pick of the pair.

  3. Harry Wills - "Clout" (7:02)
  4. Harry Wills - "Clout" (Jack Dusty mix) (7:59)
Review: Having launched the Orbital London imprint with a fine solo EP last summer, Jack Michael has decided to share wax space with pal Harry Wills on the label's sophomore outing. Each offers up a fresh track, which is then in turn remixed by the other. Michael handles side A, delivering the Reese bassline-powered revivalist UK garage bustle of "Never Said That". Wills offers a punchier, organ-heavy two-step flex on his sparkling remix of the same track, before opening side B with the wonderfully weighty dark garage vibes of "Clout", which reminded us a little of the Maddslinky singles that appeared on Sirkus in the early 2000s. Michael retains the same clandestine vibe on his version, whose snappy two-step come accompanied by wobble bass and trippy vocal samples.

Review: Less than a month after volume one landed in stores, Samuel Andre Madsen serves up a second salvo in the "Prolific Trilogy 009" series. This time round, it's all about "Money Blues", a fine, far-sighted cut that's available in both original and instrumental interpretations. It's the former, stretched out across the A-side, which hits home hardest. Madsen makes great use of a blues vocal sample, placing it at the heart of the action alongside elongated, glassy-eyed chords, near Balearic melodies, bustling deep house drums and a wonderfully rich and persuasive bassline. It's really rather good, with the vocal-free instrumental sharing the A-side's loved-up positivity and obvious dancefloor weight.

  2. Fill U (6:53)
  3. Kill (6:21)
  4. Elevator (6:09)
Review: Andrew James Gustav's Marginal Returns label debuts with something rather special: the first every vinyl outing from Two Phase U aka Hernan Gonzalez, an obscure Uruguayan artist who previously produced one CD-only album "Techknowledge" way back in 1998. As you'd perhaps expect, there's a delightfully retro-futurist feel to the four tracks on show, which riff on various aspects of '90s electronic music and were apparently all made with period equipment. Our pick of the bunch is probably "Elevator", which sees the South American wrap emotive chords and cheery melodies around a snappy electro/braindance backing track, though the breakbeat-driven, R&S-goes-to-Detroit-via-Sheffield flex of "Fill U" is also impressive. You, though, may have other favorites; it's one of those EPs that includes four formidable tracks.

Review: It would be fair to say that great Italo-disco albums are few and far between. Ago's 1982 debut album, "For You", is undoubtedly one of the rare examples of an Italo-disco artist getting it right across an entire LP. As this timely reissue proves, the artist (and his production team) was more heavily influenced by U.S disco, boogie and early electrofunk than many of his synth-pop and new wave-loving peers, giving the set an authenticity and warm instrumental feel often lacking in similar Italian exercises. You may find the accented vocals a touch tongue-in-cheek, but the choruses are great, the instrumentation brilliant and the production spot on.

Under the Decha alias, she presents a solo debut that gleefully sidesteps conventional electronic music tropes. Musically, it's varied and intriguingly tropical in tone, with the presence of Wehrmeister's spoken word or freestyle vocals throughout unifying a nine-track set that variously doffs a cap towards minimalist electronic pop, indigenous South American instrumentation, droning ambient soundscapes, lo-fi electronica and pleasingly out-there soundscapes. As debuts go, "Hielo Boca" is arresting and impressive in equal measure. Recommended.

If you missed out in 2011, the set is definitely worth picking up because it's rock solid heat from start to finish. London based producers Club of Jacks have been bubbling away on the underground for a while now with releases on labels including Plastik People, Blockhead, Soul Revolution and their own Club of Jacks imprint.

Here they launch their vinyl label with a 4 track EP of fresh and distinct House & Garage cuts primed for the dance floor (or wherever you like to jack your body!)

'Alright' comes correct as a dubwise Garage House jam with reggae samples and a gear shifting breakbeat in the drop to tear up the dance.

'Raw Like 94' nods to that classic 4/4 UKG sound and bumps along to a bass heavy, skippy groove with shimmering, nostalgic vocals.

'About You' is an uplifting, funky little number with a jazzy sax riff topped with rhodes stabs and soulful vocal chops.

'Who's Inside' rounds off the EP with a jackin' deep house nugget of filtered pads, punchy bass and sweet female vocal flourishes.

Review: Applied Arts party promoter and Cashmere Radio co-founder Ed Longo has spent much of the last 12 months criss-crossing Europe for recording sessions with a wide array of jazz-leaning musicians. The result is "The Other Fantasy", a debut mini-album that's said to be, "conceptualized around the quest for otherness in the schizophrenia of the digital age". Regardless of the concept, the resultant music is rarely less than magical, with Longo and his collaborators effortlessly joining the dots between jazz-funk, fusion, boogie and '80s soul. Highlights are plentiful, from the Dayton style early '80s jazz-funk perfection of "Love On The Line" and drowsy new age ambient/jazz fusion of "Arcadian Dream", to the synthesizer-powered '80s smoothness of "A Palm In The Closet" and horizontal bliss of "Trouble In Paradise".

For the release's 35th anniversary, Saunders has re-mastered and reissued the original alongside a stellar host of remixers. Seeing the light of day on fledgling label OSNS Records (Old School / New School), the A side features the classic original as well as host from fellow house music legend, Chicago's Paul Johnson. The flip side meanwhile, features new remixes from two contemporary Berlin-based acts, Arms & Legs' Kristin Velvet and Beste Modus and Elevate boss, Cinthie. Featuring three dancefloor-inspired remixes, this is a release that pays homage to the original's charms in impressive fashion. "

Sushitech has wisely chosen to breathe new life into their soulful, dubbed-out exploits by handing over the parts to a string of high profile remixers. The first of three Reconstructed EPs begins with Cobblestone Jazz's peak-time take on "Skank", where St Hillaire's patois vocals ride a metronomic techno backing track rich in restless late night stabs, delay-laden woodblock hits and bleeping electronics. Review: White label lover Truncate (AKA long-serving techno producer David Flores) is back with more "no frills hard grooves, crafted for the dancefloor". This time it's all about "Machine Jack", a track served in two distinct flavours of analogue-driven intensity. First up is "Machine Jack V1", where one-note stabs, Belgian hardcore "Hoover" noises and simple, mind-altering melodies slowly rise above a pounding techno groove. "Machine Jack V2" is equally as intense, with twisted, acid-style electronic motifs dancing above another ten-ton beat. In comparison, surprisingly tropical B-side "Missing" is rather laidback and melodious. It's still savage and floor-friendly, but boasts a rather cheery synthesizer melody and some blissful electronic touches throughout.

Tyree- Follow Me
Side A. 1. Original Mix- Raw house track with stripped down jazz vocals
Side A. 2. Acid Mix- Classic acid bassline that really appeals to that original Chicago acid house sound. It's true to it's nature with 808 kick drum resonating thru the track. With small vocal stabs to bring the track to life.

We have had the tracks for a while now and they have all been road tested and will guarantee some serious dancefloor action for your warm up, after hours or main room needs. This record is as deep as it gets. As usual, this is for the underground house djs who only care to bring emotion and memories to their audiences. This is set to be a classic of it own.

Techno
  1. Tracid (8:05)
  2. That Break (7:14)
  3. Acid Rhytms (7:06)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Uruguay's finest house and techno export Z@p continues his welcome return to active service in the freakier end of the scene with this spot on Cartulis Music. "Tracid" has a clue in its title, and it doesn't take long to detect the brazen 303 baiting taking place through the core of this peppy workout. It's an effective weapon used in just the right way that should get bodies wriggling with approval. "That Break" meanwhile diverts into a kind of braindance territory with the titular drums matched with more wobbly synth leads and spooked out pads, and then "Acid Rhytms" rounds the EP off with a more reflective cut for calmer moments in the dance.

2-channel quantizer & step sequencer - 8HP
Notes: Scales is an 8hp dual-channel note quantizer and step sequencer. Fundamentally, it takes an input voltage, quantizes it to notes in a user-defined scale, and sends that quantized voltage to an output, where you can use it as a melodic pitch source for oscillators or any other module that expects to see discreet note values at its input.

Scales goes far beyond the fundamental, allowing you unprecedented control of the pitches and intervals hiding inside your control voltages; turn LFO's into arpeggiators; random voltages into harmonic counterpoint; and unquantized external CV sequencers into chromatically tuned note sequencers.

Quantization can be locked to an incoming trigger. There are a number of trigger output options as well, ranging from no triggering (good for pitch shifting drones); through triggers that sync with either of the two outputs (or both); to a trigger or gate transmitted in sync with one sent to the module's TRIG input.

Shift:

Scales features two independent outputs, enabling you to create shifted harmonic intervals within your chosen scale using only a single pitch input. Using the SHIFT input you can modulate changes on OUT A and/or OUT B.

You can also use the shift input to switch between scales or to change the root of any existing scale pattern or split Scales into two quantizers - each conforming to a common scale, but fed entirely different voltage sources.

Sequence:

Scales also features a 128-step SH-101 style step sequencer (complete with storage for up to 35 fully programmable patterns) - allowing you to feed OUT B with sequenced notes and rhythm patterns, while OUT A continues to function as a standard pitch quantizer for external voltages. You can even sync the sequencer to quantizer events on OUT A.

4 track gate & trigger sequencer - 8HP
Notes: Steppy is a 4-track programmable gate sequencer with eight internal memory slots, external clocking, numerous tweakable parameters, and a performance-first design aesthetic.

Each track features numerous independent parameters that govern its playback independently of the other tracks. Specifically:

- Each track has its own length, which can range from 1-step to 64-steps, allowing for polyrhythms, fills, or constantly evolving gate interactions between tracks.
- Each track has its own gate length, which ranges from very short to very long, with tied gates possible at the extreme setting.
- Each track has its own clock divider, allowing patterns to play out over completely different periods of time.
- Each track has its own swing setting, which offsets the timing of every other step.
- Each track has its own delay setting, which offsets the timing of every step.
- Each track has its own probability control, which sets the likelihood that each programmed gate will fire when called upon by the pattern.
- Each track can be shifted (or 'rotated') forward or backward by a number of steps. So if you've created a pattern that 'feels' like it has its downbeat on step 3, you can shift that pattern two steps to the left, so that the downbeat sits on step 1.

Tracks can be programmed by entering active steps on the grid or tapped in live as the sequence is moving. Tracks can be selected and modified in real time as the sequence plays. A select button allows you to directly access each track (and each page of 16 steps within that track) directly through Steppy's intuitive multifunction buttons array.

Tracks can be individually muted and unmuted, and a special performance mode (called "Loopy") enables you to touch any two gate steps and instantly create a performance that loops between those steps.

Track patterns can be cleared without clearing its playback parameters, and all track patterns (along with their individual playback and performance parameters) can be saved as a preset to one of eight internal memory slots.

8-loop true bypass switching pedal
Notes: The Super Switcher, as its name implies, offers a powerful solution for players who are tired of "tap dancing" around their pedalboard. In effect, it moves all of your pedals to your pedalboard's front row while delivering control of them with one button push. The result is that it puts the player back in control of an unruly pedalboard!

It's also perfect for any guitarist using the "four-cable method" because it makes it easy to properly route effects that should go in front of an amp and those that are best in the effects loop.

When it comes to live performance, the Super Switcher can efficiently organize presets into banks that are easy to recall and match your show's set list. If you're playing to a click track and want to have the presets recalled via MIDI programmed to a song, the Super Switcher can handle that, too. It's also a great way to sync time-based effects to the same master clock.
