Notes: Really nice stuff here. The filter circuit from ADDAC's 4 Voice Cluster module gets reimagined as a multi-mode stereo or dual mono filter module. A lot of filter action in just 6hp.

Supplier's Notes:

While developing the ADDAC105 4 Voice Cluster module, a new multimode filter to place after the summing mix stage- and the results were so postitive that it was released as a dedicated filter.

To make it more interesting, the circuitry was duplicated, to be able to use it in a stereo signal path.

To make it more versatile, a switch was added to set the working mode from Stereo to Dual Mono where both filters can be used independently.

In Stereo Mode the Left Cutoff is used to control the Right Cutoff.
In this case the Right Cutoff Knob and CV Input are simply bypassed and will have no impact on the Right Channel operation.
This allows immediate sync of both filter frequencies when the Stereo position is engaged.
Optionally there's a jumper in it's back that, when placed, connects the Right Controls back to the Right CV control allowing the possibility to control the offset of the Right Channel Cutoff.

Resonance is independent on both Modes and still has to be set manually to match both channels.

Both the Audio and CV inputs are normalled from the Left into the Right channels.
As standard plugging any input to the Right channels removes this connection.

Notes: This low pass filter is a very good -24dB/octave Moog filter, based on the classic Moog cascade with selected, low-noise transistors. Being the successor of the RS-100, the new "S" version features several improvements regarding stability, tracking, distortion behavoiur and also the frequency range.

Two signal inputs, resonance, manually and voltage controlled cutoff frequency. Frequency range 10Hz to 35kHz with CVs applied. The transistors used in the filter cascade are low-noise and have been selected and matched in pairs to improve the frequency response over the whole frequency range. A better stability guarantees, after a one minute heating time, that the filter can be used as a clean and well tracking sine wave oscillator.

Notes: The Serge Divide by N Comparator (NCOM) is a rare, much sought-after and very essential Serge module covering a number of functions: comparator, voltage-controlled pulse divider, and voltage-controlled staircase generator.

The #N COMPARATOR consists of two sections - a comparator (right side) and a voltage-controlled pulse divider (left side). The #N output of the pulse divider sends out a pulse on every N-th comparator pulse where N is a number from 1 to 31. N can be (pre-)set with the divider's control knob (1 #N) and can by changed with a control voltage. The VC knob (attenuator)on the bottom of the left side determines how much effect the control voltage has on "N". In addition, the divider generates a staircase waveform with N steps. This can be used to produce whole-tone steps when run into the 1V/Oct input of a VCO or as a stepped control voltage to change for instance the cutoff of a filter.

The comparator provides a number of useful "housekeeping functions": Logical decisions (if the +input is greater than the -input, the output will be high, otherwise low), Level detection (whenever a variable waveform crosses the theshold, a pulse is generated ), Pulse width modulation or Rectifying a waveform (e.g. a sine or triangle wave).

Although originally designed as a waveshaper for early Serge oscillators, this module has been found to be a excellent modifier of electronic and acoustic sounds, and is highly recommended for subtle timbral modifications beyond the range of simple oscillator/filter patches.

The R*S version extends the classic TWS concept:

+1: An additional (4th) waveshaper has been added (right after the first / bottom waveshaper) that can be dialed in smoothly using the +1 knob. Turned down (CCW) the bottom section acts as in the original (as if that additional waveshaper would not exist). Turned up (CW) the bottom section is actually 2 waveshapers in series.

Switches to link the 3 sections - bottom to top. Using these switches all sections can be set to act in series, starting at the bottom and ending at the top, providing the combined effect of 3 to 4 waveshapers (or anything in between) using the +1 knob.

Linking only the middle and top section and turning the +1 knob up (to have 2 sections in the bottom) allows you to use the module for isntance as two independent 2-stage waveshapers (using bottom in and out for one and middle in and top out for the other) - e.g. for stereo processing.

Notes: El Castillo is an arpeggiating reverb that takes pitch-bent reverb to an entirely new level.

It uses a unique combination of 3 circuit blocks (reverb, pitch-shift, and delay) to create a highly experimental, ambient reverb.

REVERB - The reverb block is the heart of the pedal. It uses the same high quality reverb brick found in my other reverb pedals. It has two controls: Level and Regen. The Level control increases the amount of wet signal, without effecting the dry signal. The Regen control controls the amount of signal fed through the feedback loop. Turing up the Regen knob will increase the decay and also the number or arpeggiations.

PITCH-SHIFT - The pitch-shift block is located in the feedback loop of the reverb. Adding a pitch-shift to the feedback signal creates a stair step effect. Each time the signal travels through the feedback loop, it will shift the pitch of the wet signal up or down. The pitch shifting section is controlled by the Quantize mode switch and the Pitch Knob (small, middle knob).

DELAY - The delay block is also located inside the feedback loop. It is a simple, single repeat delay that can range from 0-800ms. This feature causes the signal to delay going through the pitch-shift block. With the delay time set at minimum, the stair stepping effect happens very quickly. As you increase the delay time, the pitch intervals are stretched out and it creates a very gradual pitch arpeggiation. The delay length is determined by the Stretch knob.

MODES - El Castillo has 2 modes of operation: Un-Quantized and Quantized. The toggle switch selects the mode and determines the function of the Pitch knob.

---In the Un-Quantized mode (toggle to the left), the pitch knob has a free-range and can select any pitch interval between -1 octave and +1 octave. At 12 o'clock, there is zero pitch-shift.

---In the Quantized mode (toggle to the right), the pitch-shift is locked to -1 octave and +1 Octave. Turning the pitch knob crossfades between the two octave shifts to allow both to be heard at once or separately. Turning the knob fully to the left provides only octave down intervals. Turning the knob to the right provides only octave up intervals (traditional shimmer). At 12 o'clock, there is a 50/50 blend of octave up and octave down intervals.

Notes: The Karman Line is a modulating joystick delay and oscillation device that features a heavily filtered, lo-fi delay line with vinyl inspired pitch modulation.

The repeats on The Karman Line are dark and overdriven. The not-so-subtle grittiness provides the perfect tone for creating a deeply textured, lo-fi wall-of-sound. The Karman Line was designed for glitchy experimentalists, but can find its place in many musical settings.

The Karman Line features vinyl-esque pitch modulation centered on an all analog, light-based LFO. The modulation mimics the sound of slowing down a record player with your finger. The modulation can go from subtle to extreme, borderline obnoxious (in a good way) pitch bending.

The most intriguing aspect of The Karman Line is the implementation of a joystick. The Karman Line employs a delay chip that creates an audible warp as you manipulate the delay time, controlled by the Y-Axis of the joystick. The X-Axis controls the rate of modulation.

The "Swell" footswitch (center) and "Launch" footswitch (right) provide two methods for bringing the circuit into ramping oscillation. Both footswitches work by overloading the circuit with out-of-control repeats (a.k.a. oscillation).

The "Swell" footswitch is a momentary switch that allows you to create a ramping volume swell at any time. It lets the repeats crash into each other, getting louder and louder with each repeat. When you let go, the repeats return to their normal setting.

The "Launch" footswitch is a latching switch that creates a below the mix oscillation that can be manipulated with the joystick for outer space noises. The joystick also acts as a pitch selector. With the "Launch" switch activated, the O.Mix knob overrides the Mix knob to allow you to dampen the volume of the oscillation.

Max delay time is just under 500ms in "GUITAR MODE" and 1000ms in "BASS MODE." Mode is controlled by an internal dipswitch.

Notes: The Moby Dick V2 brings up to date one of the first pedals that put Hungry Robot on the map. The original Moby Dick is well known for its chimey, tape-emulating delay line with slight lo-fi imperfections and subtle modulation; a "back-to-basics" delay in the world of multi-mode DSP delays.

The V2 has an obviously smaller footprint, but the most exciting changes lie in the circuit updates. When working on the V2, Hunry Robots wanted to further explore the sonic capabilities of the Moby Dick tape-emulation, rather than a miniature version of the pedal- specifically in a lo-fi, wrecked-tape context.

One of the magical qualities of recording to tape is the lovely saturation. The original Moby Dick had a gritty, saturated quality, but in the V2, this quality was pushed to its limit. A "Lo-Fi" knob which allows you to dial in additional tape saturation to the delay line. This is done by applying pre-gain amplification to the front end of the delay chip, resulting in a wonderfully organic character when gain is applied.

The capabilities of the modulation were also expanded. The original Moby Dick had a very subtle chorusing effect. Though it sounded great, it was admittedly subtle. The V2 increases the modulation depth dramatically, allowing it to travel beyond subtle chorusing into more extreme pitch bending territory. The "Mod" in conjunction with a cranked "Lo-Fi" knob creates the most amazing broken tape-deck quality, but when these knobs are dialed back it retains the overall character of the original.

The Monastery features highly intuitive controls. Hungry Robots decided to deviated from the standard three knob "Dry,Up,Down" controls used in many octave pedals and went for a more intelligent crossfade/pan arrangement. The biggest advantage of this setup is that the volume remains at unity-gain no matter where you set the knobs. The left knobs are the "Dry/Wet" controls. They adjust the ratio of wet and dry and can go from 100% wet to 100% dry with an even split at twelve o'clock. The right knobs are the "+/-" knobs. They work in a similar matter, but control the ratio of octave up and octave down.

The most compelling aspect of The Monastery is the dual preset function. You can seamlessly cycle between two presets with the right footswitch. The top LED denotes which row of controls is active. If the LED is lit, the top row of knobs is active. If the LED is unlit, the bottom row is active.

Notes: The Stargazer V2 is the follow up to one of Hungry Robots' most loved pedals. The original Stargazer has found it place on the boards of hundreds of musicians around the world. The intent was to keep the overall essence of the orignal the same while expanding its functionality. The "Stargazer" sound that many have fallen in love with remains unchanged with its classic "hall" and "sparkle" modes.

So, what's new? The most exciting change is the "simultaneous, parallel processing" of the two channels. With the new Stargazer, both channels can be used at the same time (the original version only allowed for you to use one channel at a time). The V2 has two independently voiced reverbs that can be stacked in parallel. Layering the two channels makes for an even more lush reverb tone with added depth.

The most obvious change is the physical size of the pedal; The PCB was designed more efficiently without major changes to the circuit.

The "Sparkle" switch has been removed, but both reverb modes are still available. The left channel (red knobs) is the "HALL" channel and is a darker hall-style reverb. The right channel (blue knobs) is the "SPARKLE" channel and is a sparkly, bright reverb that has a shimmery quality without an octave shift.
