Review: Lol Hammond is a former member of Spiral Tribe and early live techno act The Drum Club who now makes music on his own as Wah Wah Planet. Back in 1990 is when he penned this fantastic five track Balearic house EP alongside Russell Crone and with female vocal contributions from Lucy Sian. It very much lay out an early blueprint for UK street soul and the opener on the A-side 'Jewel' explores a romantic theme with hooky pop lyrics. Things get more left of centre on the 'Love FXU' with three trips into a smoother sound world perfect for sun kissed island dancing and with influences ranging from early breakbeat and trip hop to elements of dancehall music.

This latest EP is the first installment in the new All Hands series and it features some real house heavyweights. Review: A follow-up to last year's successful compilation 'Faith Presents: Ain't That A Groove', is given to us by the London-based label Faith ran by DJs Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson and Dave Jarvis. The high energy house party sound kicks off with Nolan who features the legendary house voice of Sir. Robert Owens. Hilit Kolet isn't shy with the extended remix of 'POV Siren'. Following up last year's 'E Da Boss' on Star Creature, 'Believe' is an impassioned plea to the would-be testifier, enjoining them to give over and into their inherent faith, which, if only it weren't for their psychic occlusion of a certain inner harmony, is bound to be fleshed out soon; aside from this sampled command on the vox, the track is effortlessly glitzy and modally shifts between bass harmonies. The inverse club mix is far sparser and dubbier at first, though slowly reveals its inner truth by way of a more stripped-back, mod-wheeled and trigger-padded experimentation.

Review: With roots as a backing singer for Stevie Wonder, Wycoff went on to become a soul ambassador throughout the early 80s. This 1982 reissue is one of the best examples of his silky, heartfelt delivery... "Looking Up To You" is a dynamic love song where traces of big 70s production build and build throughout. "(Do You Really Love Me) Tell Me Love", meanwhile, was only ever released as a B-side. Its 80s production counter the dramatics of the A-side with cool synthetic perfection. Reissues don't get much broader in production or sweeter in sound than this.

Opener 'Can You Handle This Funk' is slow, steamy, sensuous with its languid kicks, live, raw drums and drawled vocals all luring you into the groove. The remix is a subtle teak of the original and on the flip is 'Kemetic Dance Party' which brings more Afro style drums and some bold sax lines to get things going in a more energetic way.

Review: The Take It Easy label returns with a red hot one and limited edition one-sided 12" that features a Bugsy 'ReDrum' of Wema's 'Kiherehere' cut. The original artists are a five-piece Tanzanian outfit founded on community and they have a global approach to sound that plays out here. In Bugsy's hands, it becomes a club-ready cut that fuses house and techno with the original's traditional Tanzanian instrumentals and Afro-Latin rhythms. Add in a fiery vocal and the sort of unrelenting drum funk that sends crowds mad and you have another standout from this fledgling label.

Review: Dave Lee's Z Records continues to fly the flag for disco-tinged house, or house-tinged disco, from new school artists and old-school mainstays. One thing you can be sure of with music n this label is that it will be big, crowd-pleasing tackle that never forgets its roots. There is real religious rapture in the thrilling Doug Godbizniss mix of 'The Mighty Douglas' which gets the EP underway in fine style. After that is a sumptuous, string-laced house classic from Ron Basejam, a lush mix of the wonderfully ethereal 'American Dram' from lounge-y house don Atjazz and classy, hip-swinging vocal house bomb from Dave Lee himself.

The original press of 'Afterglow', arguably one of the most important songs to galvanize drum n' bass as a truly Top-40-worthy style for the 2010s, has long been out of print. Review: Almost two years have passed since Detroit deep house man Rick Wade made his bow on Rawax Motor City Edition with the awesome Another Galaxy EP. Happily, we can report that this belated sequel is every bit as alluring as its predecessor. For proof, check A-side 'Delicious', where mazy, mood enhancing electric piano solos, spacey electronics and and woozy, starlight chords stretch out across a bongo-enhanced deep house groove. Wade switches to sci-fi techno/yearning deep house fusion on the equally admirable title track ('Mystic Tech'), before rounding off proceedings via another slab of electric piano-enhanced deep house hedonism ('Nasty Night').

Review: Witch singles are well known by collectors of worldly sounds, but they have never sounded as good as they do now on this reissue seres by Sharp-Flat. Each one has been remastered from the original analogue tapes for the first time ever. These two are taken from the Zambian band's seminal 'Movin' On' LP from 1980. At that time they had survived the Zamrock years and built up a fine catalogue of psych and prog sounds but then took inspiration from the newly emerging electronic sounds of the 80s and reaches new highest. These two brilliantly funk and soul-filled disco stompers prove that and cemented the band as African disco powerhouses.

And the Widnes-born vocalist, songwriter, composer and musician certainly delivers on the deal, and drafts some incredible names from her home region to work on stellar remixes. A great argument for the current strength of the 'M62 scene', then.

They link up again here on this new 45rpm 'Supreme Trunks'. Review: Sonic Wax is dropping a couple of Jackie Wilson specials this month. Both are one-sided and limited edition 7"s, one being 'Light My Fire' and the other being this, 'Don't You Know I Love You', originally on Brunswick and found on Jackie's 1972 long player Beautiful Day. It's a life-affirming bit of upbeat and optimistic soul powered by soaring Philly strings, happy flute melodies and those beautiful, burning male vocals as well as some soothing female coos in the background. It's a northern soul gem that still does the business.

Review: When it comes to gospel-powered 21st century dance music, Detroit trio Dames Brown have been involved in many of the most memorable records - not least Sophie Lloyd anthem 'Calling Out' and Horse Meat Disco hook-up 'Message To The People'. Here they join forces with fellow Motor City musician Waajeed for another arms-aloft classic in the making. Review: Local Talk has quietly but assuredly become a vital voice in there underground. It has done so over the last 13 years and now makes that occasion by doing what it does best - serving up timeless club sounds that mix under many different subgenres. This is another feel-good offering from four of the label's talents or as the label puts it, "producers that we love and respect." There is funky bass and soulful vibes from the Soul Renegades opener, Wipe The Needle's 'Light Years Away' is a more serene cosmic journey and The James L'Estraunge Orchestra offer a broken beat and jazzed-up dancer in 'Broken Spells.' Nico Lahs brings some cuddly depths to his slow-mo house jam 'Happenstance.'

Review: WAFF has been churning out effective club tracks for about a decade now. They're all pretty similar but equally impactful and very useful for DJs as well as being appealing to dancers. Hot Creations is one of the labels to which he often returns and that's the case here with his Slapfunk EP. The title track opens up with brain frying synths and slinky tech house drums while 'Questions' gets deep and loopy with some throwback filter house signifiers as well as freaky vocals that are super fun. 'Next Game' closes out with high speed and spaced out tech house goodness.

Review: French "house music purist" Phil Weeks flaunts his domestic absolutism on the very latest EP 'Nasty Girl' for Robsoul, bringing funky and snappy flair to a nasty vocal uptick. Review: .There's plenty to talk about with The Who's historic show at Fete De L'Humanite, a huge open-air event hosted by L'Humanite, the main newspaper of the French Communist Party. For starters, on the day - Saturday 9th September, 1972 - an estimated 400,000 people were in attendance, a crowd size that dwarves pretty much anything we can think of today, and remains the band's largest ever gig. Taking to the stage as evening set in, they set to with a typically ferocious set, and four of the most standout pieces for the show are immortalised here on record. Unsurprisingly, that timeless anthem of misspent youth, love, rebellion, and hope for change, 'Baba O'Riley', is a dominant factor, although epic finale 'Relay' is perhaps where the might of their rock 'n' roll juggernaut is most felt here.

Review: The Roulade label is doing things right - not only is the music they are serving up superb, but so to do this second 12" comes with great and original artwork. Its neon glow and diffuse light capture the vibes of the synths on the opening cut 'C'est Party' perfectly. It's a melodically rich tech house cut with rubbery bass and great spoken words from a world disco dancing competition. Occibel's 'Give 'Em Some Rest' is busy and dense with whirring sci-fi synths, funky Prince riffs, thudding house beats and plenty of colour.
