Review: From the title to the artwork, everything about this EP screams high energy and peak time dancefloor explosions. And so it proves when you drop the needle into the first groove. It is Acid Mutant who kicks off with 'Disco Balls' which has lacerating synths spraying about the mix over turbo charged beats. P.I.N.O. Lopez then keeps up the pressure with 'Welcome To Rave' with its squiggly acid lines and hurried, hard hitting drums. Flip it over for the high octane thrills of Vlado's 'Drug System' strap in for one last helter-skelter in the form of 'Winder' by Acid Ray.

Review: OHM is quickly becoming a quality imprint you can count on for techno and dub techno. The ninth addition in the series, it calls for an excellent blend of composers to balance this EP out. Veteran Jamie Anderson collabs with the brilliant Owain K on opener. The 'Aqua Dub' builds a euphoria for late night smiles. Smooth is an understatement on this linear gem. One artist on here that's been making strong appearances on many dub techno labels is the ever-talented Francisco Aguado. 'Balance' is a great tribal transition track for any DJ who can it creatively to build the means to an end. On the second side, Star Dub offers the very addictive and techy 'Forst'. Ending on a high note, the brisk and flighty 'Ever Growing' by Volpe completes the ninth edition in a rapturous mood. If you like deep techno, the OHM series is a must to collect.

Techno
Review: Underground Resistance likely owe much of their mythology to the Interstellar Fugitives series; a classic series telling the tale of the UR clique fighting oppression and music-industry corruption on a cosmic scale. It's certainly an experimental delight for most newcomers to the techno genre and/or those who want to trace the history of the sound. DJ S2 (aka. Suburban Knight) and Von Floyd (aka. Gerald Mitchell) are infamous members of the UR gang; both of them have enjoyed success in the genre, and as part of the clique, since at least the late 1980s. 'Post Emancipation Psychosis' is a classic slab of UR's anarchic, ironic militancy. With its orderly drum machine march, the eponymous track by S2 describes the paranoia and loss of mental clarity one might after having been freed from the coercive clutches of a former master; meanwhile, Floyd's 'Geiger Counter' is a super-early electro classic, channelling a bursting, radioactive soundbank even few producers today could replicate.

Review: DJ Trace's DSCI4 dropped the eight-track Spy Technologies X Sampler compilation last year, gathering together label classics, giving them a remaster and a digital release for the first time ever. Now this 12" cherry picks the strongest cuts and gets them back out there into the physical realm, focusing on Trace's own work and collaborations with his co-conspirators. The Concord Dawn remix of 'Mutationz' is a hyphy kick-off to the A-side before the dark n' deadly 'Move' link up with Ryme Tyme. Trace and Voyager turn up the pressure with the Reese attack of 'Sniper' and then it's Nico who joins the boss for a cooler, deadlier crusher called 'Replicants'.

Review: Milan-based minimal label Micro Orbit has been busy kicking off a range of various artist series' in recent times, with the first Pioneer and Voyager EPs now followed up by Vol 1 of the Origins Series. As ever it's a chance to get a spectrum of the label's musical interests under your belt, with Dragomir setting the tone perfectly with the crisp, tool-like hypnotism of 'Revision'. RQZ has a fuller sound underpinned by warm bass and peppered with sound design, but the script is still resoundingly stripped back on 'Panavision'. Romanian stalwart Vid occupies the first track on the B-side with the slinky groover 'Oceans' before Selidos closes proceedings in style with the shuffling, tripped-out 'Malina Fields'.

Review: Vinyl Junkie catapults a brand new label into the universe and his intention is loud and clear - Badass authentic jungle craftsmanship for the ages. He's rolling neck deep with kindred soldiers; Radiokillaz and Fleck get wild on the breaks on 'Lakes On Saturn', Riffz dusts off the detuned rave stabs for that aggy hardcore flavour while VJ himself whips up some delightful breakbeat switchery that melts into a dubwise breakdown for momentary respite. Radiokillaz close down the EP with a touch of soul on 'Time Again', a poignant space jazz joint laced with mournful strings and a yearning vocal. Meltdown.

Review: A new label fresh from Ukraine - Frequencies - gathers its forces for its first joint. For their debut V/A, four seasoned artists from around the country come together in the unity of sonic-national interest, pitting their skills behind the DAW side-by-side (nonetheless, these aren't mere bits to scratch your chin at). The deepchord-dubby 'Purkhavka' from Odesa native Rayo contrasts well with the snappier go-getter 'Mau Studio' from Vinaya, yielding an eclectic A-side from the jump. On the flip, the youngest of the bunch, Peshka, lays down 'Spozaranku', the acid-jammiest and most haunting track here, while ole' friend-of-the-label Dibe foments grittier and 2-steppier excitations with 'Exchange Pleasantries', which, despite its title, does just as well to transcend mere polite sonic formalisms.

Review: If you like your techno high speed and laced with a sense of urgent futurism then you'll love the opening cut of this new EP from top shelf pairing of Secure and Vil. It rides on a wave of optimism with buffed metal drums and amped up chord stabs that keep pushing you onwards as wet finger clicks and muffled vocal sounds finish it in style. 'Recoil' is another brilliantly lightweight rhythm that floats above the dancefloor while 'Chime Dub' very much nails you to it with its hefty low ends and percolating sense of darkness. Last of all comes 'Rumble The Funk' (Blasha Allatt remix) for another funky techno jaunt.

Review: Cold Busted ventures into downtempo and Balearic territory here with Vanilla offering up a limited but 7" full of hazy and lo-fi beat sketches that make you ache for a sun lounger and a warm day. The gentle beats of 'Pointbreak' are offset by wonky and detuned chords that bring a sense of irreverence and 'Surfin' Summer' then casts you adrift on nice lazy sax motifs. 'Remember' keeps the grooves slow and low and 'Breeze' shuts down with another cathartic and open-skied sonic excursion. A perfect accompaniment to some mental escapism, then.

Review: Daniela La Luz is no stranger to Rawax's stable of labels - she's previously released on most of them at different points over the last decade- though Global Transformation marks the first time she's appeared on any of them as Vanilla. The Berlin-based artist sets her stall out with the raw, punchy and occasionally sparkling title track - all woozy keyboard riffs, weighty electro-meets-house beats, tipsy chords and heavy bass - before opting for a deep, druggy, acid-fired and percussively propulsive vibe on 'The Last Window of Time'. 'Daddy Beat' is a percussive beast leaning in on dexterous breaks from less-mined sources and keeping the pressure up around the 130 zone. Review: Long-time quality deep house operator Andy Vaz has a classically inclined sound that is infused with his own European perspective. Never has that been more obvious than with this EP on I'm In Love which assembled some of his best work. A Collection Of Trax Vol 1 is a limited 12" that opens with 'Only', a lively rhythm with jazzy chords and smooth vocal hooks, while 'Balances' strips it back to deep, warm, diffuse basement house. 'Deutz Motorcity (From The D)' channels the best of the Motor City with its balmy pad work and 'Little Acid' brings some raw 303 lines to a twisted house sound for the freaky after-hours.

Review: Venda brings a deft touch to this new EP on French label Perceive which is now approaching its tenth release. In that time it has excelled at serving up tasteful minimal sounds of which we have more here. 'No Visitors' kicks off with bubbling bass and delicate wispy melodies that make for a dreamy late night vibe. 'Out Of Range' is a deep and dubby cut with phased effects and nice undulation in the rhythm while 'Claire' is a little more abstract and heads down for the afters. 'Sun' completes the quartet with a streamlined minimal tech sound.

Review: Cedric Vermue's Perpetua album from this time last year explored neo-classical and ambient with a mix of piano, organ, synthesizer, electronics, woodwinds, horn and even a female choir. Now one of its most standout cuts gets reworked into a more club-ready sound by master sonic craftsmen. Italian deep techno son Donato Dozzy goes first and brings his signature smoothness, supple rhythms and bubbly drum and bass combos for a delightfully heady trip. Then comes a Grand River rework, also of 'Patterns', that is more tense and textural with fizzing drones marbling the rising synth work and suggestive minimal rhythm.

Review: Versalife is a master of the deep and one of many aliases from the Dutchman born Boris Bunnik. From dub to techno to the electro he explores here, his grainy sound is impossibly atmospheric. 'Copepods' opens up with far-sighted and sustained chords that speak of a future metropolis and 'Ultraviolet' then rides a lush broken rhythm and has melodies that glow like fireflies. 'Counter-illumination' gets more turbulent with its edgy lines and rubbery reverberating bassline and 'Vortex Storm' is like a reflective hall of mirrors with tension and eeriness in the air.

This project is all about crossing over interesting artists for unique results and so we get to see what happens when the likes of Versalife and Stenny pool their considerable talents. Review: Vibez '93 is on a roll, as we recall several of the Fokuz Recordings sub-outlet's best works through a throng of EP reissues. The 'Execution' EP is on the moniker's dirtier and rawer side, launching the listener's fledgling pirate voyage with 'Wheel Up' (its breakdown driven impeccably forward by acapella vocals from A Tribe Called Quest's 'Scenario'), followed shortly by the atmosfear-strikers 'Skazka' and 'Execution', and finally coming in to land on the axe-touting 'Execution', recalling the earliest of dark LTJ in its messy-hazy breaks, tribal calls and wiggly sound effects.

Review: Lewis Bennett is a fine producer who has a knowing following and here, for the third time now, he joins up with Burning Bug Records. This time it is alongside J.A. legends The Viceroys, who provide some super steamy and loved-up vocals over a spacious, roomy and atmospheric dub that is simple, economical yet effective, with some lush strings providing a melancholic hook. On the back side is an excellent dub that adds some low end heft and trips things out a little.

Review: Viewfinder has launched Rescan Records from Manchester to explore deeper realms of techno and tech house with a vintage flavour. Following a sterling debut with The Second Phase, they're back with another three excursions into outboard production following in the footsteps of B12 et al. 'Existential' is a particularly powerful track which echoes Underground Resistance and adds some choice swing into the groove. Prague-based Sasha Nevolin sneaks a cut in on the B2 with the outstanding 'Hempus', bringing a starry-eyed inventiveness to his synth work and keeping the energy up.

Review: Dance Trax deals in just that - tracks to dance to. This 60th such outing is a no-nonsense four-track assault on the club from the joint forces of Viikatory and Manao. 'ID' opens up with high speed and clipped techno funk and plenty of rattling synth sounds. 'Track 8' is no less punishing with loopy breaks and thudding bass combining to superb post-jungle effect. Review: 'Moon Chords' aren't just any old chords; they're the diatonic delights singularly emitted through the mitts of none other than the Portuguese producer Vil. The artist's latest EP plays back in the fashion of something not unlike a four-track lunar probe; opener 'Summer Loop' pairs hard industrial techno grooves with a stylistic smidgen of hip house and electro, while the title track follows up with a deeply hypnotic hyperventilation, with every sound sci-fi'd and tuned in key. Fireground's version of the A1 is nothing less than horrifying, while closer 'The Rtm Is Burning' warns us of the ends of techno, with its tuplet kicks (not 4x4) signallng the imminent crashing and burning of our trusty lunar spacecraft.
