Asphalt DJ - "Blades" (6:40)
RDS - "TH Only" (5:39)
Ste Roberts - "Tune Pitch Decay" (7:51)
Tammo Hesselink - "Untitled 42" (5:10)
Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Review: Torsten Profrock’s T++ project has continually spread its wings since conception in 2005. Championed by fans of techno, dubstep, experimental and drum & bass alike, his latest EP for Honest Jons (and rumoured to be his last under this monkier) showcases the amalgamation of styles and sounds that has earnt the German such a far reaching fanbase.

If it does prove to be the final T++ release ever, then the alias will have left us with the most expressive and energetic of his works. Adding a real sense of personality, Profrock unearthed a handful of samples of the singer and ndingidi player Ssekinomu, recorded in East Africa in the 1930s and 40s in the label’s vaults for this release. Skilfully, the producer works these snippets into the complex rhythm structures, giving his music a human touch that has never been seen before. Profrock looks to the radical fringe of UK garage for the snapping 2 step vibe in these rhythms that remain central to all four tracks on the EP. This results in a clutch of tracks that take on an immensely tribal and subconsciously innate feel. They morph new structures from the forms of 2 step, techno and drum & bass around which Profrock wraps twisted FX and weighty sub bass to create one whole, throbbing organism.
So with quite possibly his final release, T++ leaves us, rather fittingly, with a record that sounds at once both ancient and modern. It has a totally unique tone, like a form of tribal language that can only speak to and be understood by today’s culture through these sub-heavy, atmospheric sounds.

Video Crash (Acid Crash remix)
Video Crash (Traxman Funkbomb rework)
Review: Tyree might not get the headlines that many of his Chicago peers do but it's hard to see why. One reason might be that he was big on hip-house, a fusion of, well, hip-hop and house that never quite fully took off and got the respect it should. Here he offers something more raw and aligned with the first wave of Chicago jack. 'Video Crash' is a scintillating analogue fusion with pushing synths and caustic perc. It gets even more acidic on the remix and then the Traxman Funkbomb rework ups the vocal event for pure destruction.

Follow Me (5:38)
I See You (4:51)
Review: Maceo Plex is best known for his Ellum Audio label but he also heads up Lone Romantic which explores a more heady and underground electro sound. And that's what we get here from Third Culture on his U Move EP. The title track opens with booming analogue kicks hitting hard beneath twisted talk box vocals and tripped-out melodies. 'Follow Me' then has fleshy bass darting about beneath fizzing synth work up top that will electrify any dance floor. Offering a third and final different look is 'I See You' which has an aloof of vocal amidst plenty of machine-made electro tension.

Work Dat Shit (feat The Illustrious Blacks) (6:19)
Cimarron Palace (6:43)
Anti Narcoleptic (6:55)
Review: When a label calls itself Bring Dat Ass you can bet your bottom dollar that it's going to release proper sleazy electro. Enter Toribio with a superb four track EP of just that to get this new imprint underway. 'No Pare' is a firing cut the kick off with - synths dart about with their own mind, the tested bassline never lets up and the analogue drums jack for days. 'Work Dat Shit' is a little slower and bumpier with some bright acid prickles and 'Cimarron Palace' then unfolds with the same swing of a UK funky track. 'Anti Narcoleptic' is the best of the bunch - a weird and wonderful wonky out with clattering percussion and jumbled drum madness.

Telecommande (Felix Bernhardt remix) (6:41)
Telecommande (Vicky Montefusco remix) (7:22)
Review: Toureua's 'Telecommande' (which is French for remote control) is a perfectly uplifting tune that layers in smart trance elements over sleek drums. On the Martin Matiske interpretation, the melodies call to mind the perfect early work of Kraftwerk and the textured bass has hints of 80s magic. All in all, it is smooth and serene and perfect for lift-off whether in high summer or the darkest winter. The original is a little more doleful but no less emotive and then a Felix Bernhardt remix gets heavy and Vicky Montefusco opts for an eerie late-night vibe.

Review: The Suara label is well known for being run by Coyu, a guy who really loves cats. Musically, he started out loving house, then tech, and now gets his thrills from techno if this new EP is anything to go by. It's a selection of remixes of 'Sunshine' and first up is the top tier duo of SHDW & Obscure Shape who go for the jugular with a hard hitting version, firing synths flashing for the metallic drum loops and a rising sense of melodic tension. The boss then brings a more textured and bulky remix which has some nice tripped out melodies and on the flip is a driving Funk Assault remix and whistle blowing 90s revival sound from Marlon Hoffstadt aka DJ Daddy Trance.

The Falcon - "Sound The Alarm" (6:17)
Grizzly Knuckles - "Mad Bell" (5:58)
The Jak - "Aftermath" (5:25)
Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. Over on side B, Grizzly Knuckles' 'Mad Bell' - a breathless, house tempo techno workout built around a nagging synth-bell loop - is followed by label regular The Jak's 'Aftermath', which sits somewhere between jacking lo-fi techno, UK funky and stab-happy Soca-house.

Review: Columbus, Ohio DJ, producer and scene instigator Teakup aka Lauri Reponen is back with another EP that follows in the footsteps of local forefathers such as Titonton Duvante, Archetype and Todd Sines. His music blends perfectly the sounds of UKG, breaks, minimal and techno both past and present. 'Signal 23' is a quick-stepping dub tech cut with clipped and funky drum programming while 'Valve' is more rhythmically loose and playful in its elastic approach. 'Felopzd' has tightly wound melodic motifs and clattering percussion over a glitchy but swinging beat and 'Pad Thai Mystic' (feat Foi Oi Oi) closes out with some tense late-night minimalism.

VII Circle - "Everything Or Nothing" (5:59)
Review: SNTS sub-label Sacred Court serves up some real club-ready heat here with a new various artists EP that calls upon some real talent. HATELOVE & Wanton open up with the hellish, gothic, industrial techno banger that is 'Permanent Brain Damage' with its flat-footed drum stomps and fizzing walls of synth. There is no let up through visceral, caustic tunes from Hybral or the dark and heavy stomper that is Tim Williams's 'Son Of Perdition.' Last of all is the high-speed white knuckle ride that is VII Circle's 'Everything Or Nothing.' Spooky stuff just in time for Halloween.

End Of Days (Alignment remix) (7:15)
Biologic Horror (Lee Ann Roberts remix) (5:24)
Review: Back in 2021 Italian hard techno producer Mattia Trani released his standout Scenery LP on his own label, Pushmaster Discs. Two years on, he's amassed a frankly staggering cast of remixers to cast their spells over his original tracks, compiled on two separate volumes. After the likes of Hood, Ishii, Slater and Dettmann performed their rites on part one, now it's the turn of some breakthrough names you'll be wanting to take note of. Indira Paganotto brings an eerie, trance-flecked atmosphere to 'No Future', Paul Ritch opts for a cavernous kind of dub techno pressure and Luigi Madonna tweaks out some acid styles on 'Inner Hardships'. Meanwhile the B-side opens up with Alignment's jackhammer workout on 'End Of Days', and Lee Ann Roberts closes the circle with her rave-ready, 303-toting version of 'Biologic Horror'.

Videogame (Marcel Dettmann remix) (7:49)
Review: As the founder of his own Pushmaster Discs platform, Mattia Trani has been able to steer his own course into the field of hard-edged techno over the past 10 years or so. Now he's offered up his 2021 album Scenery to a heavyweight cast of remixers, spread over two releases to give greater prominence to the powerful results contained within. On this first version, the one and only minimal master Robert Hood leads the charge with a clangorous, industrial version of 'One More Step' before Ken Ishii brings a tightly-wound pressure to 'Scenery'. Then Luke Slater dons his Planetary Assault Systems cap to take 'One More Step' skywards before Marcel Dettmann offers a surprisingly deep, trippy yet measured version for the warm up hours. See, we told you it was heavyweight.

Sanctum (8:12)
Draft (5:32)
Drift (6:36)
Review: Moscow-based deep techno artist Toki Fuko arrives on Russian label Luck of Access with three cerebral tracks forming his glittering new EP, 'Sanctum'. Starting with the expanding and contracting spaciousness of the title track, 'Sanctum', Korotaev allows space for reverberating synthlines to extend outwards, skittering into the distance across the pulsating core of the track, exploring a reflective space that feels at once private and collective. For the second side, everything slows down to a patient, meditative pace. Luxuriating in a moment of slowed breathing, 'Draft' unfolds in a series of exhaling atmospheres, delicately punctuated with strokes of light, glistening on the surface of a rippling body of water. The final track, 'Drift', moves downstream, driven by a winding ambience and decorated with flurries of unravelling organic percussion. At the heart of each of these tracks is a force that feels eternal, held in undulating patterns that continue long beyond their end.

His debut EP Rejected inaugurates Trylion Records, featuring the deep space sonar transmissions of 'Incoherent' that's aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor, followed by the cerebral and droning hypnotiser 'Rollback'. Review: Pretty much all Drumcode releases are colossal and anthem-like - it's the imprint's niche, after all - but this two-tracker from Stockholm stalwart Tiger Stripes is particularly sizeable. A-side 'Nocturne', for example, is as driving, mind-altering and breathless as they come, with Hardfloor style acid motifs, twinkling piano breakdowns, trancey riffs and enveloping aural textures rising above a blisteringly tough and intense beat. The pulsating tech-trance vibe is further explored on 'Renegade', a track whose elongated, slowly rising breakdown - which comes complete with glassy-eyed vocal samples, does a brilliant job in stirring the senses and raising the pressure out on the dancefloor.

Review: Spanish label Involve hits release number 40 and continues to grow old disgracefully with some face-melting techno from a fine crew of miscreants. Regal's 'Undisputed' is a pilled up old school techno banger with flashy synth work, while DJ Emerson's 'Xtc' is just as intense but this time from the synth patterns, acid and banging drums which all coalesce into a thrilling ride. Tensal's 'Metaverse' is edgy and unsettling with its nerve stabs, fractured vocals and unrelenting kick drum power then Asstnt's 'La Linea' closes out with 90s white knuckle techno and filthy guitar riffs in amongst the action.

It comes from Toki Fuko and opens with the spine tingling depths, ambient pads and dub chords of 'Ajna.' Theer is then a blissed out and roomy roller in the form of 'Narration 4' and mystic, misty pads and fathom deep bass on 'Black Hole' that sinks you way below the surface. Review: Tensal has quickly established his self-titled label as a place to find fresh and innovative techno. The Spaniard now returns with some of his own wares in the form of this M EP. 'MA1' is an off balance stomper with psychedelic synths rippling over the hard-assed drums. 'MA2' is more raw with fizzing leads ticking your inner ear and dark stomping drums down low. 'MB1' brings percussive flair to the mix with more loose limbed drum funk and all of the above is combined on the dark and intense closer 'MB2' to make for another very useful EP.
