100th Monkey & Tristan - "Gobi Desert" (Parallax Deep edit) (7:51)
Four Carry Nuts - "Bunker" (Parallax Deep edit) (9:08)
Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Tensnake - "Coma Cat" (Chloe Caillet remix) (5:45)
Harry Romero - "Revolution" (House Masters edit) (5:13)
Prunk & Rona Ray - "Keep It Simple" (6:41)
Review: The mighty Defeated has got a fun package on its hands here with some fat disco and house anthems primed and ready for big room summer fun. A'Studio's 'SOS' (feat Polina - Skylark remix - Nic Fanciulli edit) is chunky house with a hooky vocal and rolling groove designed to sweep you up and away. Chloe Caillet then remixes Tensnake's classic 'Coma Cat' into a hands-in-the-air house stomper with epic strings. Harry Romero's sweaty 'Revolution' gets its drums buffed up and well swung by a House Master's Edit and Prunk & Rona Ray steal the EP at the last with their lush vocal house cut 'Keep It Simple.'

Takadoum - "Boulevard Hofmann" (6:05)
MLM & Max Cohle - "Contraste" (Anjou mix) (7:17)
Ginko - "Hors Serie" (6:06)
Review: La Menace is a shadowy collective hailing from France committed to the craft of minimal tech house, with the focus squarely on the tunes on a series of various artist releases. This time around, the proceedings get going in fizzy, freakout style with Abdul Raeva's proggy stormer 'Concorde', while Ginko locks into a slender beat construction on 'Jungle Palazzo'. Takadoum creates an emotive strain of acid on 'Boulevard Hofmann' and MLM & Max Cohle get one of those groovesome, subby basslines rolling on the guaranteed floor worker 'Contraste (Anjou Mix)'. Ginko returns to close the EP out with the sparkling, shimmering splendour of lightly breakbeat-powered joint 'Hors Serie'.

Terrence Dixon - "Daily Routine"
Obsolete Music Technology - "Past Virtue"
Plural - "07"
Jamal M - "Fine & Mellow"
Windimoto - "Friday Night: UBQ"
Review: A hefty double 12" from Generator features a slew of basement techno bombs from both sides of the Atlantic (oh, and Australia). From the pounding, relentless throb of Abstract Science's "The Grinder" to the shuffling groove of "Detroitism" by DJ-T 1000, the eight tracks cover the full breadth of techno's rich sonic landscape. Other highlights include the broken beats and woodblock percussion on Plural's "07" and the more experimental vibe of "Fine & Mellow" by Mathematics boss and general Chicago underground legend, Jamal M. An unmissable collection of tracks packaged in highly collectable artwork by Alan Oldham, who was also responsible for the superbly illustrated Defenders Of The Deep House World EP that surfaced on Third Ear a few months back.

Alex Jangle & MatztaM - "Glowbones" (7:04)
Faer - "Serious Repitions" (7:43)
Deadbeat & The Mole - "All Creepy No Sleepy" (5:45)
Review: It is no mean feat to last 10 years no matter your business, but to do so as a record label in this day and age is worthy of maximum respect. Fair play to Det Gode Selskab then for marking the occasion with a tidy new 12" that showcases just what the label is all about. There is chunky tech with grinding bass but lush old school melodies on 'Can't Cure Curiosity' while Alex Jangle & Matztam's 'Glowbones' cuts totally loose on dreamy synth daubs, painterly lines and rubbery house loops. Faer takes a more dark, heads-down path for his spooky 'Serious Repetions' and as you would expect of Deadbeat & The Mole they bring off-kilter loops, unbalanced drums and a ramshackle rhythm that will have you shaking your bones.

Review: Alzaya is a boutique label from Milan that has put out a select few EPs over the last three years from names such as Paula Tape. Now it kicks off a new Various Artist series with five quality tunes. Akasha System's 'Midnight Tide' is a nice neon-lit future tech cut with bubbling, soft focus melodies. Tape Hiss offers the old school piano laced joy of 'Scirocco' and Manuel Darquart slips into deep cosmic house lushness with 'Low Tide.' The mellifluous melodies keep on coming with Cosmic Cherry and Nicodemo who offer a pair of sleek and stylish sounds.

Books - "Cosine" (4:57)
Review: Fresh off the back of Cryptographic's intense 'Echo' release comes this fitting V/A from the ever-intriguing Swiss experimental 170 label Re:st. Music to realign our Covid-ravaged chakras to 'Re:align' introduces three new names to the label; Alternate Current steams out of the gates with a dub techno juggernaut 'Borrowed Language' while Dreadmaul & Tobe:n whip a rhythmic stampede that's screaming to be unleashed on a big system with 'Homunculus'. Flip for two slightly more cosmic tales as label founder LCP gently pats us down with the trickling lolloping loops of 'Off Limits' before Books signs us out with the sparse and skippy 'Cosine'. Refine your alignments.

Ichi (7:49)
Go (Le Porc Du Havre) (7:48)
Ju (6:19)
Review: There's no better way to kick off the newly formed Omakase catalogue than with a sizzlingly acidic minimal/tech house release from Antraum - the collaborative project from producers Anton and Traumer. On the A-side, 'Ichi' is a mouthwatering introduction to the project, exploring what happens when the details of a track are fixed to the backdrop - subtle flecks of vocals, instrumentation, and acid-hued gestures offered as a gift to the most attentive listeners. Flipping over to the B-side, 'Go (Le Porc Du Havre)', features expertly spliced vocal samples, paired with animal calls that sound either pre-historic or extraterrestrial - either way, they're out of this world. The final track, 'Ju', is the deepest of the three - cosy synths duet beautifully with the fragmented, bluesy vocal sample, riding the wave of the track's irresistible groove. Three distinct tracks tied together with perfection, this is a stellar first release for Omakase.

Review: Omakase keeps up the momentum of its fine first release with a second sizzling followup, this time from Trauma alongside Anton under their collaborative guise Antraum. It's a case of super silky sounds only here with deft and dubbed out tech on the opener 'Hachi', which is defined by a superb vocal hook. 'Roko' is a jittery rhythm with breakbeat and icy cold hits all warmed through by a fine bassline. 'San' shuts down with a nice laid back tech beat that encourages you to sink deep into it.

Review: Disco Queen just keep on pumping out the good stuff with two more divine edits from house music's spiritual and dearly missed father Frankie Knuckles. Two sides for two different peaks of the nights; Steve Arrington's "Dancin' In The Key Of Life" is that classic 11pm feel good warm up that's layered with clever momentum while The Trammps' "Disco Party" lives up to its name with incredible energy and soul and a dynamic drop into the original midway. Review: First released a decade ago and revisited periodically ever since, Arftul and Ridney's collaboration with UK soul queen Terri Walker is a 21st century house classic. This 10th anniversary edition - released in limited numbers for Record Store Day 2023 - pairs fresh revisions with classic reworks. Michael Gray steps up with a funk-fuelled, disco-tinged revision, before the insanely talented Opolopo opts for a deeper, jazz-funk-flecked revision that's as classy as it is soulful. Elsewhere, Eric Kupper's 'Directors Cut Tribute To FK' version is a strings-and-piano-laden treat, while Ridney's own 'Rework' is a tasteful, piano-sporting deep house shuffler.

Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Review: Melodic, love torn, inspiring, euphoric and heartfelt are all words to help explain the emotional drive of the music Matthew Dear makes as Audion. They are all certainly applicable to new Kompakt jam "Dem Howl" too, and this is thanks in part to the vocals of Troels Abrahamsen, lead singer of Danish indie rock group VETO, who turns a moody bassline dub into a meaningful house production not too dissimilar to classic Junior Boys material. And who else better to remix a track like this than Kompakt legend Michael Mayer who keeps Abrahamsen's voice up front, adding a slight choral and extra chiming percussion. Kompakt striking all the right notes here.

Review: 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' represents a pivotal moment for Roy Ayers and Ubiquity, marking a departure towards a funkier and more laid-back sound in 1976. With its languid tempo and dreamy atmosphere, captures the essence of summer with its joyful lyrics and hypnotic groove. Ayers' vibraphone melodies intertwine seamlessly with the band's instrumentation, creating a mesmerizing sonic landscape that resonates with listeners. Tantra Motion - "To U" (6:29)
Review: Tel-Aviv-based label Tofistock helped shape out their sound with the first volume of Hyper Love in 2021, and now they return with another round of fun and feisty club tracks which speak to the Israeli love affair with psy-trance while offering a modern context for the sound. Babylon X takes a richly melodic approach which fuses big synth pads and sweet 303 lines with a smart, pulsing drop for a proper gear shift when you want to lock a crowd in even deeper. Asphalt DJ & Gzardin have a whale of a time with the punchy, pumping pressure of 'Sweaty Ride' while MYKI & Matris keep it turned up to the peak time with a catchy, vocal-speckled workout. For our ears though you need to make sure you check Tantra Motion's dreamy 'To U', which tips over towards heady machine soul for the subtler corners of a set.

Review: Tropical Disco Records rolls out more of their sun kissed goodness on an impressive 21st volume of their self-titled series. As always there is a devious selection of disco dons taking charge of the course cuts, with Dominic Balchin getting the party started with big trumpet stabs and soul train grooves. Da Lukas slows things down and goes for a more deep, swinging cut with his 'Get Disco Vibes' and then scene veteran Moodena's 'Who Got The Keys?' gets more jazzy, with some fantastic keys and funky bass. Almost two decades later the rasping bassline is as iconic as it ever was with the robotic vocals hinting at the French touch scene that pre-dated the release by a few years. Here it comes again no doubt to great receptions from the next generation of party lovers. Pig&Dan - "La Bruja" (6:37)
Julian Jeweil - "Nasa" (6:11)
Review: Some serious peak time weapons for the main room on offer here, from the ever reliable Swedish label Drumcode. Usual heroes of the label such as Luigi Madonna, Sam Paganini and Joseph Capriati step aside for some other equally reliable staples. On the A, side label boss Adam Beyer teams up with Enrico Sangiuliano on the evocative and life affirming "Preset Heaven" which takes its cues from early trance with its amazing chord progression. It is something more typical of the label next, on the pummelling warehouse stomp of "Muzik" by Bulgaria's Timmo. On the flip, there's more trance nostalgia on offer again - this time from legends Pig & Dan on the hypnotic/melodic bliss of "La Bruja" which we could imagine melting the minds of festival crowds well into the new year. Finally they save the best for last with French peak time specialist Julian Jeweil, serving up the furious, tunneling and strobe-lit ultraviolence of "Nasa" which will have your adrenaline going from the first beat. It has been a stellar year for the powerhouse label, with great releases by Moby, Dubfire and newcomer Layton Giordani.

He does it with some big old boom bap drums and some busy and funky horn stabs, while the original vocals from Ed OG bring that old school flavour over the new school sound with plenty of added scratching for extra flex. There are strong James Brown vibes on this one with The Black Dove' 'I'm Telling' being a deep cut, soul infused roller. The drums are scintillating, the organ stabs bring a churchy feel and the yelling vocals are pure fire. On the flip is a big 60s swinger from Tony From The Bronx. 'Esperanza' hints at the bygone boogaloo era with a classic vocal refrain of love me, love me not. Great stuff.

On the A-side he joins forces with a trio of musicians to offer up "Peas In An Alternate Universe": a riff on JBs classic "Pass The Peas" that layers extended organ and trombone solos over a groove dominated by crunchy breakbeats and virtuoso bass guitar. Flipside "Mister Magic" is a deeper, warmer and more laidback affair, with tidy electric piano parts, toe-tapping drums, occasional string-laden disco samples and warm bass being joined by a simply wonderful new vibraphone solo.

Review: You'd expect a collaboration between Columbia-based fusionist Bosq, Ibibio Sound System's horn section and vocalist Kaleta to be pretty darn good, and 'Song For Ehi' most certainly is. Inspired by a combination of classic Edo-funk, Afro-disco and reggae disco, the A-side original version delivers a near perfect mix of timbales-sporting dub disco grooves, reverb-laden lead vocals, Afro-funk guitar licks, Afrobeat-esque organ licks and punchy horns. The track's inherent dubbiness is further explored on the flipside revision, which adds extra layers of percussion and the kind of breathless dancefloor weight that marks out the greatest dub disco workouts. Naturally, the Nottingham trio has pulled out all the stops to make sure that the release is as memorable as possible. Review: Subsequent to the release of Vitalik's latest collaboration compilation in cahoots with Ibizan stalwarts We Love.... Space, the Spanish label presents the first in a series of vinyl samplers for the wax fiends. As samplers go it's pretty tasty and varied, stacking Martin Buttrich up against Bristol lynchpin Appleblim and 7 Inches Of Love's The Mole. "Space Babe" finds the always amusing to pronounce Buttrich in playful form, marrying a touch of wonkiness with the deep rhythms that are poised at an upward directory. Appleblim's "Moonlight" is typically revelatory, flushing all manner of stretched vocal elements with shimmering flourishes of light across a backdrop of intricately broken up syncopation and oven ready bass. The Mole dominates the B Side with the expansive, emotive, twilight slinkathon "Even Now Just Us" unfurling from the delicate chords of the opening bars into a delightfully elongated arrangement of multi faceted percussive touches and bubbling analogue tones.

Review: Al Campbell and Trinity's "Respect" is now available on 12" for the first time thanks Greensleeves. Campbell provides the vocal work, which is aloof and detached on "respect", with dreamy trumpets somewhere off in the distance as the rhythm section rolls on with real warmth. Trinity's production is fully on point throughout. The flip is more direct, with heavier beats and more reverb underlining the crisp Al Campbell, and it also features an exclusive dub mix of the same tune that is scorching hot and carries serious weight.

My Friend Dario - "Acid Mosquito In A Summer Night" (DJ Spun It's Rong remix) (9:21)
Review: Don't let the playful, tongue-in-cheek title put you off; this EP does not contain 'Balearic gabba', should such a thing exist, but rather a quartet of largely dancefloor focused remixes of delightful downtempo cuts from the Hell Yeah! Recordings catalogue. SIRS steps up first to deliver a chugging, Italo-disco-goes-Balearic re-make of Carmel 3000's 'Super Rapido', before we're treated to one of Calm's TB-303-laden 'mellow acid' dubs, this time of Sergio Messina & The Four Twenties' gorgeous, soft and sun-soaked 'Sometimes Remember'. Over on side B, Feel Fly delivers a soft-focus Balearic deep house take on Pedro Bertho and Mariana Gehring's 'Tornei', while DJ Spun's revision of My Friend Dario's 'Acid Mosquito in a Summer Night' is a twisted, genuinely psychedelic dub disco excursion.

Trilogy Inc - "Awakening"
Trilogy Inc - "Hi Cycle"
Review: Nu Groove will always be synonymies with a distinctive take on deep house - the label rose to prominance in the late 80s and early 90s in its native New Jersey and put out definitive releases from The Burell Brothers, mostly, but also a selection of other dons of the day. Some of them now come together for the first time on vinyl as Chicago legend Ron Carroll offers up a pair of tunes from his House Of Love EP. On the reverse, Trilogy Inc. come back strong with a couple of newbies in the bouncy house of 'Awakening', and 'Hi Cycle', which comes on more energetically with strong percussive patterns and classic drums. Serious heat, this.

Review: The good folks at Rock A Shaka have long been encouraging us to slow down and sink into a softer way of life, at least that's what we assume from their continually excellent output. This latest downtempo delight is a split 7" featuring Cassandra and Tyrone David. The former's 'Happiness Togetherness' opens up with heart-aching and soul-melting vocals unfolding in graceful fashion over the the lover's rock rhythms below. Tyrone David then offers 'Tell Me Why' which has more great vocals with a more indie twist. The drums remain cuddly and persuasive.

Review: Man like Kerri Chandler is very much breaking the mold by still being right up there as one of the best in the game despite having had such a long career already. His 'You're In My System' came initially back in 1982 then got some remixes from Dance Quin in Ibadan in 2019 and now the original extended club mix and one of those Quin dubs get pressed up to a vital white vinyl 12" on Kaoz Theory. The A-side sounds as good as ever - heartfelt and vocal laced deep house with punchy kicks and rich pianos. The dub is no less vital with florid string samples and nice weighty grooves.

Review: Quantize's second offering is another irresistibly lovely house EP with funky and soulful vibes to spare. It's a varied bag of artists at the controls with Michele Chiavarini going first with the throwback vocals and piano-laced house grooves of 'Let Me See You Clap Your Hands'. Emmaculate's 'Konga Madness' has stomping Afro vibes and big horn energy making for a big carnival vibe and then things get impossibly smooth and seductive on the flip with Terry Hunter, DJ Spen & Reelsoul combining to great effect on 'Warning' (feat Rona Ray. Last of all is a sunny take on Michael Jackson's 'Rock With You' that has been all re-sung and reworked by Reelsoul, Tasha LaRae & DJ Spen.

The Groove Master - "I Love The Way You Love" (3:52)
Review: For their latest missive, Rock A Shaka have decided to offer up a new pressing of The Chosen Few's early '70s classic "I Love The Way You Love", a slab of languid, soulful sunshine recorded at a time when reggae as we know it today (rather than rocksteady or ska) was still a nascent musical form. While the original vocal version has featured on a number of the Jamaican band's albums over the years, the accompanying flipside "Version" by producer Prince Tony Robinson AKA The Groove Master has previously been frustratingly hard to find. It's worth picking this up just to get it, as Robinson's additional musical flourishes - think Tommy McCook style sax, fluttering flute solos and harder rhythm guitar - lift the band's fine riddim to even higher heights.

Review: Kevin Martin's latest offering for his very own imprint Pressure (named after the seminal album of the same name) comes in the form of a collaboration for the ages with the lead bassist from the bands Sleep and Om, Al Cisneros, owing to The Bug's penchant for working just as much with atmospheric black and drone metal bands as with dub artists and MCs. 'Rosin' is a spacey and immersive four-track EP. Cisneros helms the A with two tracks 'Rosin Immersion' and 'Dabby You', the latter of which is particularly heavy on the cavern reverb and infinity-mirror echo. The Bug's additions are newly stooped in heavyweight dub-techno-and-back-to-dub-again, with 'Fathoms' being a particularly apocalyptic track that combines pretty much all of Martin's influences into a singularly colossal image. The B2, known only as '50hz', is an even freakier version of the B1 track 'Venom', which presumably resonates even deeper at the tone of 50Hz.

Review: Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell's Manifestation project started life as a CD featuring early and work-in-progress versions of some of the New York based DJ/producer's most inspiring and intriguing tracks. Since then, he's delivered a couple of coloured vinyl EPs featuring extended takes on these tracks. There's much to enjoy on this third (and likely final) chapter in the series. First up is a near 12-minute version of Mental Remedy's spiritual house gem 'Noi', where expansive, improvised piano solos twinkle away atop a lo-fi drum machine rhythm and starry synthesizer chords. It's followed by the kalimba and Marimba-heavy delights of The Bayara Citizens' blissful 'Kulimba', while side two boasts the weighty, dense, sweaty and insanely percussive 'Under The Influence' mix of Residue's 'Eno'.

Review: While it initially started as a compilation and DJ mix series, Joe Claussell's gospel-focused Praise project has now spawned a string of EPs featuring rare tracks and new 'edits and overdubs' reworks by the Sacred Rhythm founder. The latest instalment begins with a wickedly percussive, predictably righteous live recording of a gospel slammer by Bishop Jeff Banks and the Revival Temple Mass Choir, which Claussell then turns into a 14-minute epic. He builds from a sparse, twinkling, piano-heavy start, before introducing weighty house drums and wild organ solos as the track progresses. Over on the flip it's all about 'God Helps Those Who Help Themselves', a turn-of-the-80s gospel disco slammer which Claussell successfully extends (the 'Edits and Overdubs Main' mix) and then dubs out (the accompanying instrumental).

Review: No one works a mixing board quite like Joe Clasusell, and his latest project is another high water mark in a career full of them: his Claussell Edits & Overdubs version of Crowns of Glory's 'Lord Look at Your People' is getting put out on a series of 12"s, with this third one being another winner. Review: There is something of an irony to the name Joaquin Joe Claussell has given this new Manifestations series on his own Sacred Rhythm label. Why? Well he is a master of long form remixes, tunes that go on for ten-minutes plus and take you on involving trips that at least seem never-ending. Anyway, Long Versions EP 1 it is, and a fine one it is too. There are jubilant carnival house sounds packed with percussion from Mental Remedy, Kalimba showcases that take you deep into a tropical jungle from The Bayara Citizens and more airy, heady deep house from Alejate and afro-drumming excellence on a second tune from The Bayara Citizens.

Review: Joe Claussell's mythical Sacred Rhythm has to be without a doubt one of the best and most reliable house labels around, and having a listen back through its catalogue immediately made us think that this dude was doing outsider house before the term house had even been coined - that's right, hear this! Residual Three is Joe stepping up under different monikers, first as Teenage Music with the loose, vocal-driven house amalgam that is "The Bargain", followed by "Freedum" on his Forest Elektrik name - a bouncy, synth-heavy dance experimentation - and a completely distorted, near beatless jam under the same name, entitled "Circuitry Haywire". Review: Frank Raines' Funk Night Records is one of Detroit's finest soul and funk music emporiums right about now, and it's fair to say that the man has kicked-off 2017 in the mightiest of fashions. Coko & The Iron Souls return after a scintillating debut last year, and the former's voice on "My Love Is True" cuts through to the core, especially seeing as it's backed by a beautifully deep, organ-tinged instrumentation from the latter group. The Iron Souls appear alone for the instrumental "Still Calling", a swinging, blissfully trippy funk escapade filled with the right sort of energy for a dancefloor. Strong.

Review: Danish-German production duo Cool Million (Frank Ryle, Robert 'Rob' Hardt) are specialists in nu-disco and neo-boogie. Until late, they've flaunted this expertise via their renditions of old funk standouts, be that from the likes of Donald Byrd or James Brown. Here, however, the pair team up with Tomas Thordarson for a front-and-centre G-funker of the squeeziest quality, 'My Life', whose lyrics match its form via mentions of 'cutting like a knife' rhymed, of course, with 'paradise'. The instrumental dub is just as glassy and arid, its standout element being the huge, zesty, quivering chords marking out the phrase transitions.
