  4. Farron - "Cosmic Lies" (6:53)
  5. Kreggo - "La Mia Giungla" (4:44)
Review: Time Horizon's second episode enlists another team of dancefloor snipers delivering 5 brain-dancing tunes crafted appositively for late night use. After his appearance on the first XCPT record, Andrea is back on the label with his unmistakable shuffling drums and a heavy square bassline followed by Anybody Anytime covering the uptempo-zone with a rotative junglistic tool dressed with celestial pads; closing the A side TANS reveals his new robot alias The Sympathizer providing a neurotic electro progression fully based on his modular system. Flipping the records you will find two XCPT homies bringing the audience straight into Matera landscapes: Farron gets a 909 unceasing toms orchestra surrounded by his atmospheric leads while Kreggo illustrates clearly his hypnotic mid-low vision of breakbeat locked by a mystic bass for the whole track.

  6. LVRIN - "Black Tank" (4:58)
Review: Somewhat later than initially intended, Pinkman serves up the second volume in its celebratory "Five Years of Tears" series (the first landed back in April 2018). As was the case with its predecessor, the six-track set is made up entirely of previously unreleased material. This time round, the majority of the material is inspired by EBM, industrial, coldwave and other skewed, left-of-centre electronic sounds from the 1980s. The material is uniformly strong, with highlights including the sweaty, percussive, all-action insanity of "Al Batard" by Jann, sleazy, mid-tempo EBM pulse of Kris Baha's superb "Beatthemachine" and the pitch-black, DAF style intensity of Retrograde Youth's "Final Days".

Techno
  1. Damon Wild - "Constant Search"
  2. Ben Sims - "Vicious Cycle"
  3. Steve Bicknell - "Chapter Of Self"
  4. Tadeo - "X Marks The Spot"
Review: The brilliant Chronicle has been quiet for a minute, but comes back in fine form with this keenly curated various artists 12" that re-affirms the label's vision of cerebral, deep and driving techno. Damon Wild shows his tender side on the gorgeous, immersive "Constant Search", while Ben Sims brings a tougher palette to bear on peak time percussive belter "Vicious Cycle". Steve Bicknell summons a fearsome, metallic dervish on the monolithic "Chapter Of Self", and Tadeo takes things bleepy, loopy and uplifting on "X Marks The Spot". It's a 12" of stunning modern techno from start to finish.

  1. Bloody Mary - "Acetic" (6:28)
  2. Splice - "Tactile" (6:40)
  3. Thomas P Heckmann - "The Space Between" (9:50)
Review: Following up appearances by veterans such as Josh Wink, Hardfloor and Acid Rain (Milton Bradley), Dame Music takes no prisoners on the third installment of The Melting Pot, delivering another series of unrepentant 303 ultraviolence. Label chief Bloody Mary steps up to deliver the punishing and disorienting psychedelia of "Acetic" awash in gliding resonance from that little silver box plus clattering 909 mayhem. Splice then lunges straight for the jugular on "Tactile", a frantic session where the abrasive overdrive of the kick will have you begging for mercy. Finally, the legend Thomas P. Heckmann returns since his appearance on the series' first episode - he delivers the seething restrained fury of "The Space Between".

  5. Human Space Machine - "Places" (7:21)
Review: Indigo aera's AEX series strikes again with a solid five track selection on AEX009. Curated by Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorff they invited five like-minded friends with their take on techno and electronics.

Production duo D&S starts with a seven minutes of warm and moody grooves on 'The Invisible Workings'. Followed by the nostalgic dub tinged pads from De Lichting affiliate Kaap and Rotterdam based producer Ben Buitendijk showcasing his ambient side with 'Head In The Clouds' where he leads you to bright and dreamy territories. On the b-side ESHU's Tetelepta returns to the series with his trademark rhythmic and minimalistic approach and fresh debutant Human Space Machine closes things off with a melodic uplifting take for dance-floor ecstacy.

Review: Some wicked underground sounds coming out of Ukraine (and beyond) on offer here by new imprint Hypnohouse. Darren Woollard aka Dawl who has been putting out some wicked grooves on Libertine, Furthur Electronix and Klasse Wrecks lately gets into some proper bleep techno action on "Output" while Kiev-based Trippsy finishes up the A side with the strobed-out and tunnelling sensations of "Flashback". Flip over for Uruguay's Fede Lijtmaer who channels some Dopplereffekt vibes on "Passing By" followed by Wulffius' retro techno jam "Salty Breeze". Tip!

  3. Tristan Da Cunha - "Move (Let Me See U)" (5:40)
  4. Freakenstein - "Feakin' Time (+ Freak-A-Pella)" (7:24)
Review: Leeds-born session Hearlucinate makes the leap to wax with a special series of 12"s that correspond to line-ups for parties in London, spearheaded by resident Tristan da Cunha. On this first release, Dawl shores up on the A side and sets the bar very high indeed with the killer bleep techno stylings of "Energy Overdrive" and the tough, punchy electro of "Cyborg". Da Cunha himself follows up on the B side with the equally tough and thumping "Move (Let Me See U)", a seedy and sensual peak timer if we ever heard one. Freakenstein completes the set with a rabble-rousing booty bass beat down that will appeal to those who likes their electro fast and nasty.

Cat: DEFP 018. Rel: 05 Mar 19
Deep House
  1. Mitchell's Fold
  2. Fontaine Bleau
  3. Swelted
Review: REPRESS ALERT: London's Default Position label has thus far released music by Sebastian Mullaert, Terry Francis and many more. Now El Choop and Tim Gee step up to the plate with two seriously deep immersions. Bristol-based producer El Choop has previously popped up on a tape release with Heavenchord and also released a solo 12" last year on Etui, while this single marks Tim Gee's first outing to date. The two sound utterly at home in the dub house furrow they're digging into, leading in with the cavernous echo chamber meditations of "Mitchell's Fold" before slipping into the slightly more energised "Fontaine Bleau." "Swelted" graces the B side with the most upfront set of drums on the record, while maintaining the shimmering elegance of the dub chords that permeate the other two tracks.

  3. Shahrokh Dini - "Owl Flight" (Delano Smith remix) (7:31)
  4. Truby Trio - "Galacia" (Zenker Brothers Esotheric remix) (6:03)
Review: Celebrating their 25th anniversary with due class, Compost are about to drop an epic 10 x 12 compendium of classics, rarities, exclusives and remixes. And these limited Overture 12s act as a cheeky tease of what's to come. Now on the third edition, here we're treated to four brand new remixes of cult Compost cuts... Fauna Flash's 2001 Latin sunset jam gets a new coat of deep house armour by Recondite. Joakim takes Marbert Rocel's debut album track "Dance Slow" literally and winds it down to a star struck cosmic pulp. Delano Smith whips back to 2006 and switches up Shahrokh Dini's jittering SoundofK-era funk-up "Owl Flight" into a glittering tech gem while the Zenker Brothers take Truby Trio's iconic 20 year old "Galacia" and flip it into a marching 3am techno parade. Essential... And plenty more to come when the full collection drops in April 2019.

  1. Marcel Fengler - "Cortex" (5:30)
  2. Alienata - "The 8th Passenger" (6:00)
  3. James Ruskin - "TZR" (5:06)
  4. Tripeo - "Sequoia" (5:50)
Review: It's quite remarkable just how much quality Ben Sims has managed to pack into the Tribology mix and its accompanying series of vinyl samplers. The fifth round shows no signs of going soft as it leads in with the sledgehammer thump of Marcel Fengler's "Cortex", showing the Berghain resident to be on formidable form. Alienata shakes things up with the slick yet sinister electro strains of "The 8th Passenger", and James Ruskin lands some heavy blows with the delirious synth cycles of "TZR". Psyk finishes things off in his signature style, looping up some nervy blips and bleeps around a restrained set of drums for the ultimate in techno hypnotism.

  2. Psyk - "Voyager" (6:17)
  3. Truncate - "Rings" (5:23)
  4. Blasha & Allatt - "Broughton 93" (6:04)
Review: The fourth sampler from Ben Sims' mammoth Tribology mix features another four of the must-have exclusives from this crucial document of contemporary techno. Function leads the way with "Introversion", a spooky and sleekly designed deep driver marked out by thin slithers of displaced vocal. Tripeo plays the opposite tact with a bright and bold synth hook front and centre of the mix on "Sequoia", and then Truncate trickles down a pattering array of drum machine rhythms and fluttering melodic chimes on the stunning "Rings." Blasha & Allatt bring the tough stuff to the B2 with the jacked up energy of "Broughton 93" - their debut appearance no less and a very strong one at that.

Review: Next up on the ever-excellent Oscillat is "Spellbound" by the supremely talented Matthew Dekay. This moving deep house jam uses a few key elements to make a soul-stirring confection for truly spine-tingling moments in the middle of the dance. From the slithers of vocal to the insistent key riff that bounces throughout, this is an outstanding slice of contemporary house music loaded with feeling. Mandar then take the original and inject it with a feisty peak time energy shot through with a little trancey magic and an acidic undertone. It's not a raging beast but rather an energizing workout for the brain and the body - just what you need in the midst of a marathon.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Gravity Graffiti has been doing great things with its series of split 12"s already, but now the Italian label goes one better for its tenth release with this mighty double pack of heavy hitters. First up is the ever-untouchable Yoshinori Hayashi, who gets as straight up as he possibly could with the freaky house burner "Dissociative." Telephones is feeling particularly dubbed out and groovy on "Kalimbalimbo", while DB.Source and Riccardo Schiro take things strung out and textural on "Montevago". Dynamo Dreesen is in rave mode for the pepped up and delightfully weird "Reactivate", leaving the final side to Oyvind Morken & Kaman Leung's chugging "Tunnel Visjon" and the rubbery side swipes of Acidboychair's "The End (At Any Speed)".

  3. Luke Vibert - "The Banter Notes" (5:30)
  4. Air Liquide - "Strunkelpotz" (5:04)
Review: De:tuned's latest saucer-eyed trip into the world of previously unheard ambient techno, electro, IDM and acid is another must-have four-tracker. As usual, the assembled list of artists is heavy on producers who can trace their roots back to the halcyon days of the 1990. Future Sound of London don their more rave-focused Humanoid alias for a typically robust, mind-altering trip into acid-electro territory, before former Rephlex artist Mike Cullen presents a Kosmik Kommando cut full to bursting with warehouse-ready stabs, chunky techno drums and seriously psychedelic acid lines. Over on side B, Luke Vibert lets us read "The Banter Notes" - a typically cheeky, bass-heavy affair whose triple-time beats and trippy electronics are particularly alluring - while German veterans Air Liquide offer up the raw analogue rhythms, heady bleeps and growling modular noise of "Strunkelpotz".

Review: EYA Records presents a double 12" of plush techno and house spanning styles, giving four producers the chance to showcase the breadth of their sound with two tracks each. Innershades brings emotive 90s swoon and peppy acid to the A side, before Two Phase U slips in a little uptempo robo-disco sauce and a feisty jack track. Otis takes things in the direction of wiggy proto-trance and bleep techno, and then Zots finishes up with freaky synth work dripping with mischievous personality. This is a set of tracks that demands to be noticed - don't sleep.

  4. Skober - "Raving Ethos" (6:15)
Review: There's no pussyfooting around on Terminal M's latest multi-artist extravaganza, just wall to wall slamming techno "Bangers" for dancefloors that like it heavy and high-octane. Fittingly, Joyhauser's opener, "Killer Queen", is a throbbing, trance-inspired techno slammer of the kind regularly released by the Drumcode label. Patrik Berg takes a different tack on "Galactica", wrapping icy electronics, glacial chords and intense acid lines around a kick-drum driven groove, before Teenage Mutants and Moonwalk return to the trance with a spiraling, all-action workout that sounds like it was inspired by the genre's late 1990s heyday. To round things off, Skober steals the show via the giddy breakbeats, warehouse-friendly synth stabs, wild acid lines and heavy bass of "Raving Ethos".
