Review: Names don't get much more titanic when it comes to techno than old school German dons Timo Maas and Marc Romboy. They join their considerable skills for a new single here which is the first of a few to come. 'Die Zeit' does everything you would expect a track from this pair to do - it has the powerful linear drums, the rumbling bass lines and the epic synth craft that lights up a vast sky above. It's a tense rollercoaster with a grand ambition and lasting impact. A Synthapella is also included on the flip for even more of that melodic intensity.

Review: Six months after their first collaborative outing 'Die Zeit' in May - also on thyme Systematic label - two bonafide German techno titans have been busy in the studio once more. This time they offer up 'Der Rhythmus' on limited edition splattered vinyl and it is another timeless, terrific and peak time cut. The drums and snares are snappy as you like with distorted bass down low and suspensory arps keeping you on edge as a libidinous female vocal adds the final touches. UK duo Dense & Pika remix with a more stripped-back but not less slamming sound.

Review: The second release from Alex Egan's Utter sub label Quoth finds a link-up between Pearl River Sound and The Horn - two outlier operators with plenty to say when their machines collide. Pearl River Sound has been scattering outstanding releases on Further, Seagrave and Further Electronix amongst others, while The Horn comes from serious Devon techno heritage having cut his teeth on Evolution back in t'day. This is all about upfront material though, with a tendency towards microtonal braindance that veers from the self-explanatory collaboration 'Modular Grime' to solo forays into off-kilter, acidic electro funk. Nowhere near as derivative as a lot of current braindance, this is real freaked-out electronics for those with discerning taste.

Review: The sophomore release on Miami's Alchemista comes from Translate (Teo Pellegrino) and Joel Pulso, two rising Argentinian producers who join forces for some seriously mental techno excursions on 'Cuadricular Dreaming Pannel'. The first side of this essential 12' features the hypnotic interplanetary minimalism of 'Specific Angles' reminiscent of classic Sleeparchive, followed by the majestic and cyclical title track which this time takes its cues from Jeff Mills' unmistakable Axis sound. Over on the flip, the title track is treated to a surefire remix by the inimitable Oscar Mulero, head of Pole Group, who manages to inject more dancefloor dynamics into the arrangement, accentuating the spacey elements underpinned with a stronger rhythm department while staying true to the vibe of the original.

Review: Jumpin' & Pumpin' looks back into the seminal archives of The Future Sound of London here to reissue their fantastic The Pulse EP from 2008 which also featured tunes from Manchester pair Indo Tribe. It is they who start with 'Bring In The Pulse' which features some Happy Mondays hallelujahs, mad rave whistles and bristling electronic breaks. 'In The Mind Of A Child' (First Born mix) is then a bouncy techno cut with more visceral synth and acid lines and The Future Sound Of London kick off the flipside with 'Hardhead' (Frothin' At The Mouth mix) which is an assault of breaks, congas, whistles and rave signifiers. 'Pulse State' (831 AM mix) is that perfect tune to zone out to on a late night drive on the motorway.

'Don't B Shy (Turn Around)' is pure sleaze. A dirty banger for dancefloor madness. 'I Wanna Suck Ur Dick (Long N Hard)' is a more lithe and bouncy cut with bright hooks buried below naughty vocals and hurried drums and then 'Take Off Ur Clothes' keeps the filth going with another highly potent electro groove overlaid with some urgent synth tension. One reason might be that he was big on hip-house, a fusion of, well, hip-hop and house that never quite fully took off and got the respect it should. Review: When a label calls itself Bring Dat Ass you can bet your bottom dollar that it's going to release proper sleazy electro. Enter Toribio with a superb four track EP of just that to get this new imprint underway. 'No Pare' is a firing cut the kick off with - synths dart about with their own mind, the tested bassline never lets up and the analogue drums jack for days. 'Work Dat Shit' is a little slower and bumpier with some bright acid prickles and 'Cimarron Palace' then unfolds with the same swing of a UK funky track. 'Anti Narcoleptic' is the best of the bunch - a weird and wonderful wonky out with clattering percussion and jumbled drum madness.

This debut 12" is a fierce four-track with different arts taking care of each aural assault, starting with Elektrabel. 'Sernafet' is a manic mix of loopy snares and pulsing synths, metallic drum sounds and sweeping filters. SPIDJ brings a little more heavyweight techno funk to 'Fuerza Analogica' and Akenaton then gets raw, dark and dirty with the industrial menace of 'Cambio De Actitud.' Review: Terrace is a guise of Stefan Robbers and there is a sombre sense of end of the world finality to this new EP on Cyphon. 'Territorial' is a dubby electro cut that seems to want to fight for its right to party, while 'Thermon' has a nagging bassline and bittersweet chords that suggest the end is near and resistance is futile. 'Woodward' picks up the pace with some swinging drum funk and muted acid lines that all come with a healthy dose of futurism and 'Ritual' is the most prickly and kinetic rhythm of the lot. Review: There is a great backstory to this new one on Blue Hour: when Stockholm producer, DJ and promoter Maya Lourenco aka Parallax Deep was digging for music in the local Snickers Record store, she found two classic goa and psy trance tracks that particularly interested her. As such she snapped them up, took them home and began to work on her own distinctive edits of them, rearranging sections, cutting up bits and adding extra details while never getting too far away from the essence of the originals. Her edits of those two originals - 'Gobi Desert' by 100th Monkey & Tristan from 1995 - and 2000's 'Bunker' by Four Carry Nuts - are pressed up here and both sound brilliant.

Review: The correctly titled All Killer No Filler series from the Memphis/Monevideo label is back with a second instalment to back up the fine first outing. This effective various artists release kicks off with Elias Sternin's 'Loop Hole' which is a warm, fleshy techno kicker backed up by Stonem's more lithe and broken beat workout, 'Festichola', which brings some retro 90s synth sounds and plenty of colour. Alfalfa's 'Rising Down' is the flipside opener and is a turbocharged retro-future tech sound with cyborg energy. Last of all is a deeper, slower, heavier sound from Two Phase U with the pensive 'You Are'.

Review: Following his impressive debut on Submersive's VA Osmotic Particles in 2021, Toki Fuko returns with his inaugural solo release on the label. His Hues of Movement EP comprises three original tracks and remixes by Anthony Linell and Artefakt, all of which embody Submersive's ethos of deep, hypnotic techno. Fuko impresses as always with his well crafted soundscapes blending electrical pulses with catchy drum sequences. Linell's Train remix fuses his style with Fuko's to make for a dub-influenced journey while Artefakt's 'Warble' remix takes things into darker worlds filled with unrelenting tension.

Tensal's intense opener 'Collusion' builds through twisted synths and frenzied pads until thunderous drums land to carry it away. Leiras opts for a much more minimal sound with pulsing synths over slipper rubber drums on 'Sensitive Data. Tuber's 'Rapid Eye Movement' is dark, tense and tunnelling techno for brain frying 5 am sets and last of all, Svreca shows his class with his smoother liner techno roller.

Review: Maceo Plex is best known for his Ellum Audio label but he also heads up Lone Romantic which explores a more heady and underground electro sound. And that's what we get here from Third Culture on his U Move EP. The title track opens with booming analogue kicks hitting hard beneath twisted talk box vocals and tripped-out melodies. 'Follow Me' then has fleshy bass darting about beneath fizzing synth work up top that will electrify any dance floor. Offering a third and final different look is 'I See You' which has an aloof of vocal amidst plenty of machine-made electro tension.

Review: Dynamic Reflection keeps up its impeccable run of form with a tasteful various artists EP featuring some innovative talents. Troy is first out of the blocks with the stripped-back and dubby techno energy of 'Yann' which locks you in with its loopy melodic riffs. Svarog & Ma-Gooch offers the much deeper and heady 'Spaces' with its groaning loops and super smooth linear drums. Luigi Tozzi follows a similarly economical path with the seductive bass and synth loops of the undulating and transcendental 'Haboob' which leaves Jonas Korbl to close out with 'Primal Grade.' Though still steeped in hi-fidelity sound design, this one hits harder with a more bulky low end and swinging bass.

Review: Moscow-based deep techno artist Toki Fuko arrives on Russian label Luck of Access with three cerebral tracks forming his glittering new EP, 'Sanctum'. Starting with the expanding and contracting spaciousness of the title track, 'Sanctum', Korotaev allows space for reverberating synthlines to extend outwards, skittering into the distance across the pulsating core of the track, exploring a reflective space that feels at once private and collective. For the second side, everything slows down to a patient, meditative pace. Luxuriating in a moment of slowed breathing, 'Draft' unfolds in a series of exhaling atmospheres, delicately punctuated with strokes of light, glistening on the surface of a rippling body of water. The final track, 'Drift', moves downstream, driven by a winding ambience and decorated with flurries of unravelling organic percussion. At the heart of each of these tracks is a force that feels eternal, held in undulating patterns that continue long beyond their end.

Whether going to new school artists or old school legends the results are always the same - epic and explosive. This time out we get both on one EP with Teenage Mutants going first with 'Dark Clouds (feat Heerhorst & Peter Pahn). It has synths fired from a hadron collider as they shoot over the face of the acid and bass-laced drums. Review: As the founder of his own Pushmaster Discs platform, Mattia Trani has been able to steer his own course into the field of hard-edged techno over the past 10 years or so. Now he's offered up his 2021 album Scenery to a heavyweight cast of remixers, spread over two releases to give greater prominence to the powerful results contained within. On this first version, the one and only minimal master Robert Hood leads the charge with a clangorous, industrial version of 'One More Step' before Ken Ishii brings a tightly-wound pressure to 'Scenery'. Then Luke Slater dons his Planetary Assault Systems cap to take 'One More Step' skywards before Marcel Dettmann offers a surprisingly deep, trippy yet measured version for the warm up hours. Review: Back in 2021 Italian hard techno producer Mattia Trani released his standout Scenery LP on his own label, Pushmaster Discs. Two years on, he's amassed a frankly staggering cast of remixers to cast their spells over his original tracks, compiled on two separate volumes. After the likes of Hood, Ishii, Slater and Dettmann performed their rites on part one, now it's the turn of some breakthrough names you'll be wanting to take note of. Indira Paganotto brings an eerie, trance-flecked atmosphere to 'No Future', Paul Ritch opts for a cavernous kind of dub techno pressure and Luigi Madonna tweaks out some acid styles on 'Inner Hardships'. Meanwhile the B-side opens up with Alignment's jackhammer workout on 'End Of Days', and Lee Ann Roberts closes the circle with her rave-ready, 303-toting version of 'Biologic Horror'.

The first release is a powerful statement of intent that draws together a crack team of sonic explorers who are all hell bent on blowing up the dance floor. Review: A couple of years back, the revitalised Hooj Choons label released an album of orchestra-sporting covers of classic dance cuts of the 1990s under the HEO: Hooj Ensemble Orchestra tag, then got rave revivalists Borai and Denham Audio to remix their new version of trance classic 'Cafe Del Mar'. Here those mixes - a frankly filthy, bass-propelled 'Rave Booty' mix and a more acid-flecked, grandiose breakdown-sporting 'Pluck Dub' - finally make it onto wax, alongside the Club Glow duo's similarly previously digital-only reworks of Transformer 2's early 90s 'Hooj' classic 'Fruit of Love'. More tactile and loved up, with tactile bass, pleasing pianos and glassy-eyed vocal snippets, the pair's 'Redux' mix is simply sublime, while Borai's solo dub is a deliciously dreamy, rush-inducing affair that sounds like a future rave classic.

Review: Nation of Jak offshoot Dirty Blends was established by label chief Melvin Oliphant as a vehicle for "interpretations" and "homages" - in plain-speak hush-hush reworks, tribute tracks and those that sample liberally. The label's latest release is a compilation of sorts, featuring as it does cuts from a trio of artists. The Falcon steps up first with title track 'Sound The Alarm', a raw, jacking, bouncy and positive mind-melding blend of lo-fi synth stabs, sweat-soaked beats, fire alarm noises and restless drum machine fills. His style is rooted in a futuristic take on techno with plenty of liberal acid deployment as demonstrated in this EP on the 5511 Records label. Review: 2023 was a knockout year for Portuguese artist Temudo, taking in techno totems like Blueprint, Klockworks and Hayes in pursuit of his driving, sharply-focused sound. Now he lands on Italian label Sublunar with more of that refined, precision engineered gear for the wormhole crew. 'U Where My Second Choice' is a taut, edgy workout with a nagging synth hook, but 'Asset 2' ratchets down to a pure, heady locomotion which will take you tunnelling deep into the night. '2029' has a restrained funk which will work the body good and proper, and 'Affection' simmers down to a minimal palette peppered with pointed blips moving in expertly sequenced formations - smart techno at its finest.

Review: Tensal's take on techno is a perfect blend of heady soundscapes and potent drum programming. He brings that to Arts collective to kick off his 2024 in typically excellent fashion. He opens his account on this one with the pulsing basslines and zippy synth textures of 'Virgo' before 'Molecular Base' heads down a darker rabbit hole full of late night allure. There is more of driving and linear feel to 'Black Annis' which locks you into a meditative state and ready to gaze on at the passing synth loops and last of all 'Chromatic Aberration' ups the ante with more frosty synths and cosmic synth tension as busted techno drums loops below.

Review: Robot Says A is a stunning EP that showcases the dub techno skills of Jukka Hanninen aka TM Shuffle, a Finnish producer who has been making waves in the scene since 2012. The four tracks on this vinyl are all deep and atmospheric, with lush pads, subtle melodies and crisp rhythms. 'Moonset' is a dreamy and hypnotic track with a soothing vocal sample and a warm bassline, followed by the more upbeat Infinity' an energetic track with a catchy synth hook and a driving groove. Over on the flip, 'Kupliva' is a collaboration with another Finnish dub techno artist, Monoder, and it features a swirling and spacey sound with some glitchy effects. Finally, 'Echo' is a minimal and dubby track with a sparse and haunting vibe.

Review: Foxbam Inc is a new label from underground Scottish talent Foxtrot and countryman and long-time acid lover Egebamyasi. Both feature on this first EP which is a various artists affair inspired by many years of playing and partying in the dance world. HIs 'Freaky Foundations' kick off with flat-footed and hard-assed techno, then comes Mr Gasmark who has roots in back metal but loves "a dark acid cocktail". He serves up a high-octane 303-laced monster banger here in the form of a remix of Araknoid. Egebamyasi's 'Fryer State Of Unconsciousness' is a wall of distorted noise and sheet metal synths that never let up. Last of all is a remix from Mark Archer, half of the legendary Altern8, and here offers up a jacking house cut with fat acid lines tearing it up.

Review: Gregor Tresher is one of the artists who can say has just about completed techno. He's been at the top table for decades and always cooks up monstrous sounds that will slay any seized club. That he is now back on Sven Vath's Cocoon makes perfect sense as both are titans of the scene. He offers two direct and to the point tracks here - one on each side of this 12". 'Black Halo' channels the sort of intense energy and cosmic vibes you would expect of a tune with that title and on the flip, 'Phantom Dancer' is another irresistible techno tune awash with electric synth work and smart drum progmaming.

Review: DJ Hyperactive's now-defunct Contact was the label that first put out this cult cut from 1996. Some 25 years later it now gets a welcome reissue on Truncate's own self-titled label and features a remix from the techno titan himself. 'Reptilian Tank' gets a breath of new life and a refreshing new remix by label boss Truncate. First up is the original - a head-wrecking, panel-beating techno rave-up with wispy pads and pulsating bass that is full of pent-up energy. The remix is a speedy, stripped-back version that races ahead with all the urgency of a shooting star.

Review: .The year is 1996, and Chris Sattinger aka Timeblind has just dropped his Verticle Disintegration EP on All Ears. It sounds like the future. The year is now 2023, and the same still holds. This is high class techno which has come to be much sought after and rather expensive over the years, so a reissue is well overdue. The title track pairs rough edged drums with dub chords and warped synths into a perfectly bouncy groove. There is more grit and grind as well as a manic vocal loop to 'Charred' and 'Wander The Earth Like Cane' is more percussive and tribal.

Review: Stockholm label Kvalia has been shaping out a sound which tips towards heads-down, dub-minded techno from artists like DJ Nobu, Psyk and Mary Yuzovskaya. Now they're strengthening their vision with a masterclass from one of the best in the game, Andreas Tilliander. As the chap responsible for those incredible acid dub techno workouts as TM-404, Tilliander sounds utterly comfortable and compelling in equal measure on 'Oroia' and 'Veia'. The sound is dense and warm, full of subtle details but understated like the best deep techno should be. Luigi Tozzi and Svreca pop up on the B side for remixes which hold true to the overall meditative vibe of the record, making this a must for all heads-down, eyes-closed DJs.

Review: We've very much enjoyed the return of trance to the underground and though purists will say the sound has never gone away, it sure has been some years since trance, for right or wrong, has been seen as cool. Now it is permeating all worlds from electro to techno to house and this EP does that as well as any we have heard recently. TYWI opens with the prog-tinged house banger that is 'Reality Checkpoint' complete with serene synth work and euphoric energies. Review: Legendary label Le Disque celebrates its 35th Anniversary with this new various artists EP offering up the sort of sumptuous sounds it is so well known for. Cosmic legend Daniele Baldelli gets first with the driving Italo techno-disco of 'Promeni' while GNMR bangs the box with his leggy 909 drum pings and heady synth swirls on 'Modulo Rmx Downtempo V1.' On the flip, Tagliabue's 'Sogno Cosmico' is a deep and pulsing techno cut that roams at a slower tempo but is no less effective, then Simone Bauer's 'Gigantomachia' is a hyperactive and cutting edge rhythm piece that never sits still and is dark as you like in its ritualistic dance manoeuvres.
