Review: Once again, Music From Memory has dug deep for inspiration. Very few will have come across the original 1987 pressing of Ich Traume So Leise, a long-forgotten collaborative album that brought together trumpet player Heinz Becker, songwriter Karl-Heinz Stegmann, and poet Isabel Zeumer. Predictably, though, the tracks which the Dutch label has chosen to reissue are exceptionally good. "Mein Tanzlied", for example, features Becker's meandering trumpet lines and Zeumer's eyebrow-raising spoken word vocals seemingly drifting over an intoxicatingly funky, mid-80s dancefloor groove, while "Dir" is a seriously atmospheric chunk of beatless jazz poetry. Flip for the Balearic electro-funk of "Der Schnupfen" and the languid, new age ambience of "Abends".

Review: West End's double-pack re-edit series continues, with long-standing UK electrofunk hero and scalpel rework specialist Greg Wilson sharing a quartet of revisions. There are airings for two of Wilson's most sought-after scalpel works from the "Credit To The Edit" series - superb versions of Brenda Taylor's "You Can't Have Your Cake and Eat It Too" and Raw Silk's "Do It To The Music" - as well as a couple of previously heard rearrangements that are on-point as per usual. This new and limited 12" is packed with four hard to find gems from between the years of 1983 and 1988. They have all been taken from the original master tapes for this special reissue. Camomilla's chugging and snappy 'Queen Of The Night' opens up with a squelchy arp and heavenly melodies, Noa-Noa gets more cosmic and De Dion offers the drama and neon colour of 'Sexy Cola' with a fine extended version while Sandy Samuel's 'I Like Sado Music' is a loose limbed percussive workout.

It is a six track various artists EP that comes on silver marbled vinyl and opens with the sleazy underworld sounds of 'Selva Oscura' from Conceptual. Orbe's 'Thorax' then goes down a deep, dark late night techno tunnel in mind melting fashion and Sciahri's deft loops on 'No Fear' leave you feeling utterly in the moment. 'Re:Strain Of Stairs', as the title suggests, reinterprets the song 'Strain Of Stairs' by Japanese rock band The Pillows on the A-side, bringing a loose-hipped drum workout to the ordeal. On the B, meanwhile, Ryow goes all out on a new original featuring Kim Hill, 'Ain't Even Like Me', a song which first debuted online a least four years ago - it's an impressively-made production in contemporary r&b, with exquisite harmonies from Hill.

Review: The Soul in the Horn label is "a movement" with roots in New York City. It is a collaborative project from music curator DProsper and resident DJ Natasha Diggs that is now back with another party-ready 12", this time from Knevrmind. It kicks off with a rugged house cut that chops up some big Kendrick samples to make for something of an anthemic opener. 'Major Hot' then flips the script with more sun-kissed and dusty house loops that are nice and loose and 'Matters Of Time' slows it down again to late-night and loved-up dub house. An instrumental strips it back so the cosmic synths shine brighter.

Review: During the 1990s, there were few techno producers in Spain who were quite as prolific - or successful, for that matter - as Alex Martin. This superb double-pack delivers proof of the Barcelona-based artist's impressive early form by gathering together some of the best cuts he released between '94 and '98 under a variety of aliases, most notably Sideral and The Fat DB. Interestingly, there's plenty of variety to be found within the collected cuts, with sparkling sci-fi ambient ('Elipse') and deep, shuffling IDM (the acid-flecked brilliance of 'Mare Nostrum' and 'Butterly') nestling side by side with deep techno ('I Wanna Look at the Stars'), ragged futurist acid ('Incognita'), intergalactic techno ('Planetarium') and even cuts inspired by the soul, bass-weight and shuffle of the then emerging UK garage sound ('Can Make It').

Review: The fourth record from the French electro label Perfusion. So far, each release features multiple artists showcasing their own brand of the next generation electro. Nite Fleit's 'Off Radar' is an audio attack on your senses, a sometimes abrasive, crunchy, raw, heavy bass stormer is not for the faint of heart. Swooh's 'The Streets' also has an over-arching sci-fi sound to it revelling in the history of electro. For the second side, High Fidelity's 'Say My Name' adds a rave-punk attitude to the mixture of electroclash, gabber and techno. The EP rounds out with a breakcore romp with Juicy Selekta's 'Stackin' Up!' that features some hip-hop samples. If electro-shock was a genre, you'd point people to this track. Intense.

Review: Italian techno star Enrico Sangiuliano is back on NINETOZERO following his collaborative EP with Charlotte de Witte, Reflection. He brings a more direct and dark sound to this one which is based around "the concept of change, in all its forms." Isolated from any behind the scenes thinking it is still an effective two tracker. 'Physical Change' goes first with a fulsome sound that seems inspired by the texture of early video game soundtracks like Wipeout. Dark vocal loops and cosmic synths are all maximal and high impact. 'Pulse Of Progression' then layers in a little more tripped out and trance tinged energy that will get hands in the air.

Review: Buckle up for some no-nonsense techno thrills from a powerhouse collaboration, as Enrico Sangiuliano and Charlotte De Witte mint the third entry in Sangiuliano's self-styled 'transient record label' NINETOZERO. 'Reflection' has all the thunderous low end thrust a big room techno record requires, while the scattered hoover stabs and edgy vocal mantra bring the playful charm to the track - hold tight for the head-nagging acid drop. Meanwhile the 'Intro Mix' of the track gives DJs something to play with when kicking off one of those epic aircraft hangar sets. For something different on the B-side, Sangiuliano goes it alone and presents a tool of sorts featuring a stilted voice defining the titular 'Sources Of Propagation' in cold, clinical fashion - something we imagine will become fun to play through ample FX when getting creative in the mix.

Review: The state51 Conspiracy label comes very much correct early on in the New Year with this two-track grey marbled vinyl 12" in a fancy spot-varnished sleeve. It takes the form of two fresh Santaka reworks of original compositions by Rytis Mazulis and avant-garde choir Melos Collective which were first released back in 2020. Santaka, which means "confluence" in Lithuanian, is the coming together of DJ and producer Manfredas and drummer and producer Marijus Aleksa and here they layer up disembodied vocals and dark jazz melodies on 'Ramybe' and then 'Autoportretas' is a textural ambient exploration packed with fascinating sound designs.

This highly anticipated vinyl release naturally leads with Kon's original extended disco mix, where Furious's Sylvester-esque vocal rises above walking bass, rolling beats and Logg style piano motifs, but also includes two new revisions. Review: Unidisc's 40th anniversary series, which offers fresh editions of sought-after disco and boogie hits, each accompanied by a new remix, continues. This time, they've decided to revisit Saturday Night Band's 'Come On Dance, Dance', which first surfaced on legendary NYC label Prelude way back in 1978. The chosen remixer this time round is Z Records chief Dave Lee, in pure 'Remixed With Love' mode. His EP-opening 'Disco Mix' is a genuine bomb that expertly rearranges and re-EQs the Saturday Night Band's original mix - with the odd dash of delay here and there - in true Tom Moulton style. He also delivers an excitable, largely beat-free 'Reprise' mix and a tidy, dancefloor dub style 'Instrumental'. A lightly edited take on the 1978 original mix completes an excellent package.

Review: The Scan 7 collective is known for its archetypal Detroit sounds and meticulously designed tracks. Always with a nod to Underground Resistance, the group put out its 'The Resistance' tune 11 years ago now back in 2013. Here it gets served up once more in its original form alongside some hefty remixes. It's a sophisticated track with lush strings and spoken word musings over buoyant Motor City house grooves. The Terrence Parker mix is even more house, with loopy bass bringing a soulful touch under the more florid claps. Last of all is the UR Detroit Rusted Metal mix, which is all fizzing synth modulations and dark broken beats.

Review: Famous as the nephew of the world famous sitarist Ravi Shankar, Ananda Shankar carried the torch by contributing several greats to the continuing tide of prog rock and Western electronica. Review: Japanese producer Shinsuke Taoka is part of a long-standing Japanese tradition of flipping hip-hop, jazz and soul songs, giving them a completely new lens to analyse them under. Under Shin-Ski, the first track under attack is an unidentified Hip-hop sample of Bill Withers 'Lovely Day' (famously sampled for the soundtrack of The Bodyguard by S.O.U.L.S.Y.S.T.E.M.) for 'We'. Shin-ski takes a Caribbean rap version, injecting it with jazz elements alongside the hot flow from the MC. Track 2 'Her' is a complete transformation of Common's 'I Used to love H.E.R.', an abstract hip-hop titan on its own, now with some gentle keys and a subtle drumline that gives the track a sense of intimacy. Fantastic find here, super limited for a one-off pressing so pick up this 7" whilst you still can.
