Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Review: As Soul Capsule, Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior made some of minimal techno's most accomplished records. It has been many years since they stopped turning out new material - sadly - but their archive tracks are still in hot demand and undeniably relevant. While 1999's 'Lady Science' might be their most famous offering, this EP from 2001 on Aspect Music is no less vital and it will currently cost you well over L250 on second-hand markets. It is Ford's Trelik label who reissues it here in all its glory: the entirety of the a-side is taken up with 'Law Of Grace,' a delightfully deep and breezy minimal dub house roller with pensive chords draped over the frictionless drums. 'Meltdown' has a more experimental feel with brushed metal drums beneath a wordless vocal musing. The cult 'Lady Science' (Tek Mix) is also inched with the whole package being remastered by D&M to make this one utterly essential.

Review: Fresh from releasing one of his best singles to date - the deep, melodic, peak-time ready techno brilliance of 'Granada' - Stojche returns to his own imprint, Tangible Assets, with another must-check EP. The Berlin-based Macedonian begins by wrapping spacey, dub techno style motifs around a galloping techno beat on 'Frontline', before opting for sweaty, jacking drums, throbbing bass and breathless ride cymbals aplenty on 'Body Language'. Over on side B, 'Farewell' sees him once again fuse dub techno and melodic techno tropes on the genuinely excellent 'Farewell', before pivoting back towards peak-time, shirts-off dancefloors on the sci-fi synth-sporting brilliance of undulating closing cut 'Nihilism'.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic label is back with a second volume of its dubs series, this time on nice yellow vinyl with Sub Basics and Fletcher given one side each to shine. Sub Basics goes first with 'Mediterranean', a lovely liquid dub with bottomless depths and perfectly smooth, frictionless drums. Lovely soft melodies drift in and out as the echoing hits and icy hi-hats help oil this most heady of grooves. On the flip, Fletcher offers up 'Sludge' which is a little more tense and menacing, with darker bass and more texture as well as distant groaning pads that keep you guessing and on edge.

Review: Marco Bailey and Sigvard's serve up some certified techno gold here on nice clear red vinyl via the Fundaments label. This collaborative EP opens up with the retro-sounding goodness of 'Faded Game' and its marching bottom end. It's an all-out raver that never quits. 'Live For Yesterday' is deeper, with a more nuanced atmosphere and layers of drums and synth that rise up though the mix. 'Smooth Mind' ups the ante with more loopy and strobe-lit synth energy and 'Out Of The Past' closes with more buffed metal loops and rolling drum machine sounds.

Review: A rather unique new EP in the straddled modes of trance of breakbeat, 'Celebrate The Days' is the latest V/A from German stalwarts Day By Day, and succeeds in motivating us to do, well, just that. Perfect material for igniting tearful beachside bum-wiggles in far-off global corners, it's evident that these tracks are cut from only the finest production cloth. It's in the name: 'Tear At Rave' by Sasha Nevolin sounds like it's just emerged from some kind of cybernetic waterfall, while B-side intrigues, like Nvsession's 'Endure Love', get at the more flow-static and hypnotic elements of ecstatic dance moments.

Review: James Pennington remains one of the cult veterans of Detroit's techno legacy, right there at the beginning and wholly revered by those across his work. Even if he still exists a little on the fringes compared to some of his peers, releases like this remind you how respected he is, and for good reason. 'Winds Of Fear' just hits that balance between the true, deep-rooted, classic kind of techno and the otherness which makes the best of the genre memorable instead of forgettable. The trombone-like synth line forming the melodic bedrock of the track is just not something you hear often in techno, but it sounds powerful especially on top of the rough, urgent slap of the Suburban Knight drums. As if the original wasn't enough, we get Robert Hood going in on the track with a tight but funky as hell edit and a dusty beatdown version from Eddie Fowlkes. Legends, assemble!

Review: Adam Beyer's all conquering Drumcode label has kept big rooms banging for decades now. The latest artists to step up to tweak the hugely successful formula are Alex Lentini and Stomp Boxx. hey pair up on four fresh cuts that right from the off show some nice invention, with fizzing textures and wooden, block beats defining 'Solstice.' 'Split The Noise' is all about those big, panel beaten techno drum loops and 'Azimuth' surges forwards on waves of static electricity with some neat synth bubbles hidden within. 'Equimulate' closes out one of the better Drumcode EPs for some time.

Review: Packed with percussive energy, thrusting basslines and mind-altering electronic motifs, this collaboration between long-serving Swede Patrick Seich and rising star Sandra Mosh deserves to be heard by far more than the Drumcode faithful. The pair set their stall out on EP opener 'Rhythmic Reflection', where whispered vocal snippets and psychedelic acid lines rise above breathless techno drums and a throbbing sequenced bassline, before opting for a dark, wayward and more intense techno sound on 'Synchrony'. They intensify their collaborative sound further on 'PPMV1', in the process making great use of twisted electronic riffs and hissing ride cymbals, while closing cut 'Soft Light' brilliantly fuses creepy electronic melodies, trance-inducing TB-303 lines, bouncy drums and clandestine chords.

Review: There's a high-concept story attached to the TerraFirm label that is intriguingly well formed and thorough. It goes like this: "TerraFirm provides the desiccated, toxified, irradiated or otherwise uninhabitable planets of this sector with a suite of services to rectify any environmental challenge." Taking the reins for the seventh outing is Spandrel who serves up bendy, rubbery, body-popping house-cum-techno. 'Floaterz' is a deep cruiser, and so is 'Night Winds Eternal' but with trippy melodies. On the flipside, 'Ornithological Studies' gets more bristly in its cosmic excursions and last of all is the superbly hooky and loopy dub tech roller 'Colonizer Appreciation Day.'

Review: It's rare that more than four artists feature on a single EP, but Berliners Inner Tension have brought that number to five with their latest. Made up of artists who've rubbed shoulders with the likes of Semantica, Spazio, Disponsibl and Pole Group, 'Are We All Alone Or Just Overwhelmed?' sees label boss Blazej Malinowski collaborate with many a fellow producer on the label. It's a steamy deep techno slice-barrage, evidencing a command over minimalism, calm and serenity few others can convey well through the same media.

Review: Earlier this year, the Lazy Reflex Concept label launched with a mind-mangling techno EP featuring three tracks apiece from 543FF and Jeroen Search. On this sequel they've stuck to the same formula, though this time they're offering up cuts from three different artists. Lenson handles side A, first wrapping psychedelic electronics and faintly foreboding stabs around a surging peak-time groove on 'Denied Process', before adding alien-sounding bleep melodies to a pumping rhythm track on 'Tranquiliser'. 543FF provides an accompanying remix that toughens up the beats (it's definitely more tribal sounding) while making the accompanying elements sound sparse and spacey. Elsewhere, Sculpturalism's 'Psychonauts on Manali' mixes industrial strength grooves with droning chords and dub techno motifs, while Miller & Keane's 'Acid Intervention' is a TB-303-sporting late-night throb-job.

Review: US producer and DJ Sepehr returns with 'Diaspora Cocktail' for Planet Euphorique, breaking from his own imprint Shaytoon for a hair-down foray through cheekier-side of scene-setting techno. The five bits on this new 12" hark back to the titling traditions of the early 90s, with alternate mixes with denominations like 'XTC Mix' and 'Freak Beat Mix' stealing the show. It's right in the middle of a busy run right now with no fewer superb run with three new EPs all dropping in quick succession. This one is a split EP with US duo Solid Gold Playaz taking care of the a-side. As always with this pair, their sounds are deep and dusty house with exquisite melodies tugging at the heart. On the flip, Gari Romalis steps up with the slick percussive skip of 'Detroit After Dark' then 'Panties' from Brian Neal brings jacked up analogue groves that lean into techno with a big fat bassline.

Review: Here comes the second part of the RSPX presents Actualize compilation, released by Rekids, a Berlin-based label run by Radio Slave aka. Matt Edwards. Ultimately, said comp will contain 16 tracks of hard-hitting and diverse techno from a range of artists to have featured on Edwards' Rekids Special Projects sublabel, which focuses on 'no-nonsense' techno. For the time being, though, the comp split into a series of four EPs, evidently allowing the listener breathing room and time to consider each track, not least with the intention of being heard on high-quality vinyl. Slam and Radio Slave helm up the A-side for some neat meditative numbers, while relative newcomers Silvershower and Confidential Recipe deliver much wilder hard techno tea on the B.

The first release is a powerful statement of intent that draws together a crack team of sonic explorers who are all hell bent on blowing up the dance floor. The brand of extra the opener explores is industrial and mechanical, with Kim Cosmik's 'The Ascent' twisting metal and contorting synths into a ragged rhythm. The Droid's 'Upgrade' is a more futuristic blend of cyborg funk and Broken Joe's 'Fallen Crane' is full of spooky lines and jittery rhythms. Review: Perc Trax has been a gold standard for proper hard-assed and industrial techno for as long as well care to remember now. Somniac One is an artist who had a standout cut on the label in 'Junkyard Shift' so is now back to repeat that success with her 'I Hope This EP Finds You Well' EP. Once again it pulls no punches with caustic synths and slamming drums defining each tune. 'Instigator' is a squared off banger with unrelenting edginess, 'Infiltrator' fires its synths out of a machine gun over closely stacked kicks and 'Buzz Pollinator' is the most restless of the lot - a funky hard techno banger lit up with rave synths.

Review: A label's first release is always a big one which hints at what to expect in the long term and for that reason Introspective debuts with this new five track compilation. They say that "Instinctive Senses is a compilation focusing on precise and cutting sonorities." We say it is a fresh techno offering with plenty of interesting details. Grafin drops 'Vespers' which is tightly looped and quick as hell then SDB & B2 get more dark, heavy and gritty on the twisted 'Reunite.' Review: Ignez kicked off Somov in 2020 with a string of solo releases, but now he's invited a true legend in the form of Steve Rachmad to widen the label's scope. As Sterac, Rachmad's covered a lot of ground in his long and winding career, but he's seizing the opportunity to innovate at every turn by opening up this seemingly innocuous single with a grandiose experiment in soundtrack composition fittingly titled 'Score 3.0'. There is of course techno to be found elsewhere, from the driving machine funk of 'Coin Flippers' to the tunnelling propulsion of 'Manifestation Power'. 'Arutam' completes the set with an uneasy slice of classically executed dark side techno for when you want the vibe to go a little creepier.

Review: Mystique is a brand new label out of the always fertile Dutch scene and it opens its account with a no holds-barred EP from Sylvester Javier, aka Stefano Curti of Vibraphone fame. He offers three originals and two versions starting with 'Secret Ceremonies' (Italo Disco mix) which is a pulsating house cut awash with plenty of across textures and percussion. The Cocorico mix has shimmering vocal sounds stitched into the arrangement and the original has a spooky, rather eerie feel with its hurried drums and squirrelling synths. 'Lost In 1st Avenue Loop' is a gritty Detroit house cut with heart of the dance floor intensity and 'Microdot' gets as twisted as you would expect of such a track title. A fine debut EP overall.

Review: Up to this point, the deliciously devilish Renegade Methodz label has largely been a vehicle for founder Endlec's fearsome, formidable techno productions. Following his Cycle Of Doom release comes this VA drop, which helps map the contours of the techno which makes this Greek label tick. ANFS brings a claustrophobic pressure to 'Kavatza' before Scalameriya lets rip with some punishing, noisy firepower packing all the necessary punch for a big room rave-up. CTSD brings some wild sound design flair to the peaks and troughs of 'Algorithmica' while still keeping the production gnarly and then Jerm finishes the job with a deep-diving, heads-down chokeslam of a track.

Review: The deep techno lovers at the Modern Hypnosis label have got Sub Basics on a new 12" that will lock you into a meditative state from the off. 'Offshore' is first up and ride son icy, minimal and gently broken techno loops that are fluffed out with deft synths and wispy pads. 'E443' is another super paired back sound with a quiet, late-night approach to floating and loopy techno. 'T441' has skittish rhythms and warped synths suspending you in mid-air while closer 'Lucid' (feat Traces) has a darker intensity to its lurching drums and pulsating synth lines.

Review: Adam Beyer's notable techno label Drumcode seems to be as busy as ever of late. The label here rolls out a fourth part of its ongoing A Sides series, which is now up to volume 12. Though the Swede himself doesn't feature, some of his trusty sidemen do starting with Chris Avantgarde who brings big room, hard techno energy to 'The Last Time'. Bry Ortega keeps it just as intense with the machine-gun like synth fire of 'Discover 9', Massano brings some brighter synth loops to the stomping 'Betraya' and Spektre shut down with a mix of hardcore, trance and techno potency on 'Too Far Gone.' Some great DJ weaponry here, for sure.

The boss himself dropped a huge EP not so long ago and now turns to Space 92 for the latest aural assault. The artist serves up just two tracks but both are hugely weaponised affairs, starting with 'Time.' It is lacerated by gurgling synth lines that fire across its face like lasers, while the rolling beats and edgy stabs all build the tension. Review: Deetron's been turning out serene house and techno for many a year but he changes tact here and presents Soulmate on Ilian Tape. It's an EP with a wide array of influences and kicks off with 'Path' which is bright, melodic, electric house music with cow bells galore. 'Zoom' is tightly coiled, loopy, dusty, turbocharged tackle with a warming intensity and then 'Screen' pairs more balmy and blissed-out chords with hurried beats and layers of FX and percussion. Last of all is the best of the lot - 'Blade'. It's a tribal, percussive cut that cannot fail to sweep you off your feet.

Review: Mighty European powerhouse Drumcode rolls out more of its techno tsunamis here with part one of the 12th volume of its A Sides collection. The boss himself, Adam Beyer, offers up one of the biggest cuts - 'Heading South' is a surging, straight-up techno weapon rippled with deft synths that ever forever on the move. Danny Avila's 'My Crew' (feat Flowdan) is built on a foundation of earth-shattering kicks and rolling bass with hellish stabs and vocal fragments making for an intense atmosphere, and Simina Grigoriu's 'Flight Tracker' is the sort of quick-moving techno sound to lock you into a trance. Add in LAAT's 'The Age Of Juno' (oi oi!) and you have a very useful and high impact EP of contemporary techno.

Review: Up next for Adam Beyer's esteemed Drumcode imprint is Enrico Sangiuliano, a Milan based DJ/producer originally from Reggio Emilia who has been been active on the Italian scene since the early noughties, playing everywhere from clubs to illegal raves. His work of late has been released on sister label Truesoul, Alleanza, Gem Records, Octopus Recordings and Rhythm Converted. On "Moon Rocks", Sangiuliano provides a euphoric, hands in the air anthem with soaring synth leads and seriously humming Reese bassline over a high octane beat. Also on the A side is the mad diva vocal breakdown on "Ghettoblaster" which soon gives way to a dark and tunnelling epic. Finally on the flip, we have two versions of "Dutch Kiss" but for our money it's all about the sombre and emotive IDM vibe of the Inner remix.

Review: It would probably be a sin not to describe the work of Mike Schommer (and his affiliates) as 'atmospheric'. While the word is a music reviewers' cliche, 'City Sleeps Remixes Part 2' is also the kind of music to which it best applies. Following up the first remix bundle of Schommer's monumentally emotive album 'City Sleeps' (the first volume heard the likes of dub techno legends CV313 and Steve O Sullivan), this follow-up comes back just as strongly with a response from Deepchord, Deadbeat and Freud der Familie. Deepchord's remix is a free-associative pulse through a dejected, rain-soaked 'scape (the occasional 'night bus' vocal can be heard). FDF and Deadbeat, meanwhile, get overtly dubbier and with it. FDF's is particularly evocative of hawkishly looking out over a landscape, half-blind, its light only periodically being let through.

Review: We've been loving the playful Looney Tunes for a while - they put out decent edits and left of centre underground grooves that always have a real sense of character. Next up is Supersanity with one much such track that is pressed up to a one-sided and hand-stamped vinyl. Review: Whoever is behind these STEDIT drops is striking upon pure gold, bringing a legitimately underground techno crunch to the pop edit practice. Having previously tackled the likes of Brandy & Monica and Ultra Nate, now two of the biggest pop divas of all time are getting some low down and dirty reworkings which tread the fine balance between earworm familiarity and the heads down moodiness of a locked-in dancefloor. 'Slow' becomes a slippery acid abstraction peppered with all kinds of sonic freakery, while 'Justify My Love' becomes a brooding, steadfast workout tipped towards the minimal crowd.

Review: Vade Mecum welcomes Soft Traffic for a debut release here and it is one that suggests the producer has a soft spot for the warm, deep and heady end of the dubbed out techno spectrum. Those are certainly all the words you would use to describe the quiet brilliance of opener 'Find Ya' (feat Prince Morella) which is icy cool and hypnotic. On the flipside, 'Night Drive' is another sublimely soft focus and supple techno roller with infinite horizons and milky pads that dissolve your soul. A superb debut.

Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Review: Dynamic Reflection keeps up its impeccable run of form with a tasteful various artists EP featuring some innovative talents. Troy is first out of the blocks with the stripped-back and dubby techno energy of 'Yann' which locks you in with its loopy melodic riffs. Svarog & Ma-Gooch offers the much deeper and heady 'Spaces' with its groaning loops and super smooth linear drums. Luigi Tozzi follows a similarly economical path with the seductive bass and synth loops of the undulating and transcendental 'Haboob' which leaves Jonas Korbl to close out with 'Primal Grade.' Though still steeped in hi-fidelity sound design, this one hits harder with a more bulky low end and swinging bass.

Review: This is the first release by Taste The Rainbow, a new vinyl-only label founded by Seizun, a duo consiting of Benjamin Joseph and t.na with a string of releases on Constant Black, Aesthetic, Day Dream, Before, Moving People, Cira Groove, Peoples and Into The Woods already under theior respective belts. Review: Spanish label Sungate has become a truly buy on sight label thanks to its eye-catching artwork by Abel Fdez and scores of quality digital and vinyl releases from the likes of Jozef K & Tinman, Iori, Skudge and many more. Their latest release comes from Estrato Aurora, who you might have spotted on Bliq, and his frequent collaborator Siarem. Between them, the pair whip up a classy strain of minimally-minded electro which locks into simmering, understated beats and uses subtle atmospheric touches rather than the usual punchy synth leads and basslines you commonly associate with the genre. It's a fresh approach which serves them well, and also gives devoted electro DJs some interesting tools for tweaking the energy in a set without losing the essence of the sound.

Review: The twisted and trance-infused progressive techno sound of Les Disques De La Jungle is one we have been keen to hear more from, and here we have it: a new EP featuring some of the artists who have already dropped heat here. AV1 goes first with the crispy metal drums and warped synths of 'Meta2' then Fsk24 & Felix Dulac combine for the hammering tech-funk of 'Un Eclair Dans La Nuit' which would have been a Tyrant classic back in the day. Fsk24 then hooks up with Nils for the stomping and noen-lit jungle-tech of 'Toomai Des Elephants' before partnering with Solal Reyes for the tripped out but driving closer 'Tongue Twister'.

Review: UK-based Yuri Suzuki has been sneaking out high-quality machine jams for a long time now, riffing with DMX Krew on 7777, popping up on Herbert's Accidental Jnr label and bringing the heat to Super Rhythm Trax last year. Now he's landed on German label Sketches for another expert excursion into raw outboard expression, where tension and restraint become as potent as distortion and intensity in making these dancefloor bombs. 'Drastic' is a fine case in point for build-up and release that doesn't resort to brute force but instead focuses on psychoactive sonic results. If you value rugged acid delivered with finesse, you'll be more than satisfied with Suzuki's latest set of squelchy work outs.

Review: You can always count on Capracara to bring something a little spicy to the table, but the results are even more unpredictable when you throw UK house magician Simbad into the mix. If you like your house music extremely grubby, blippy, analogue and slightly unhinged, but still soulful, you're in the right place. 'Roubaix Cube' jerks and bumps along with all kinds of bleeps and rugged beats, and the pads sound delirious but still inject some real heart into the track. 'Prowler Report' heads further off into discordant freakiness, but there's still plenty of punch down low. 'The Ozone' is the smoother offering, with some gorgeous keys, chords and pads interweaving for a still-rugged but oh-so-sweet strain of deep house music.

Review: NYC based Onysia Records recently launched its sister label Convent for dub that it deems to be more heavy and edgy. This seance release is just that. Scientist vs anyone is going to be worth hearing. Scientist vs J Gabriel is about as good as it gets as, since making his debut, Gabriel has blurred the boundaries between electronic dub, deep house, dub techno and minimal. Here he's in full-on dub mode, with Scientist handling mixing duties for extra authenticity and a typically spaced-out sound. Mike Shannon and Deadbeat both step up on the flip-side to add their own delicious and hypnotic dub techno take.

'Rumors' is one of those composed, slow-burning tunes that is full of plenty of promise so keeps you on edge as it rides the gritty drums, journeys through some epic breakdowns then comes alive with dark rolling bass and frazzled pads. 'Stimulation' on the flip is an equally serene affair with far-sighted pads and supple synth arps all rising up through the sky to lead you on an intergalactic prog trip with plenty of subtly bleeping melodies.

Review: Back in November 2022, Steffi dropped her The Red Hunter album in dedication to her mother. It was a typically fierce offering from the Dutch talent and now three of its tracks get reworks by some of her finest pers. The 12" on Candy Mountain opens with 'Irreversible Cessation' (Convextion remix) which is a rumbling and futuristic techno twister, then 'Individuals From All Walks' (Rosati Remix) picks up the pace with some high speed dub techno that powers through the night in hypnotic fashion. Last off all, 'North Facing Shade' (Tracing Xircles remix) is a broken beat excursion with more astral synth sounds and a smooth overall aesthetic that is utterly absorbing.

Review: Elias Landberg continues to press ahead with the instantly identifiable Skudge sound, where the best of contemporary techno locks in for tight but funky grooves of the highest calibre. It's not often we see the project break away from the self-titled label, but here it's gracing Syncrophone with some of the finest uptempo, deep-diving gear you'll hear all year. 'Wander' has a snappy strut to the beat and lead riff alike, with the drums coming on like uptempo house as much as techno. 'Hidden Location' locks in harder thanks to the enduring creep of the background pads, while 'The Wind' takes on the dubbiest duties as it stretches out across the B-side.

Review: The correctly titled All Killer No Filler series from the Memphis/Monevideo label is back with a second instalment to back up the fine first outing. This effective various artists release kicks off with Elias Sternin's 'Loop Hole' which is a warm, fleshy techno kicker backed up by Stonem's more lithe and broken beat workout, 'Festichola', which brings some retro 90s synth sounds and plenty of colour. Alfalfa's 'Rising Down' is the flipside opener and is a turbocharged retro-future tech sound with cyborg energy. Last of all is a deeper, slower, heavier sound from Two Phase U with the pensive 'You Are'.

Review: Marcus Suckut is a bonafide techno titan and his own label backs that up as it approaches its 100th release. It might be true that you always know what you're going to get here but that doesn't mean it isn't always high-functioning techno. 'Metal' is a dubby and linear cut made from minimal components, then 'Pressure' gets even more paired back and deep with an eerie sense of tension pervading the whole groove. There is a little extra energy to 'Moving Walls' but it's still a heady roller and 'Concrete' then shuts down with a nice languid bassline and dub hits that echo to infinity.
