Review: For their next outing, Workshop has served up some DJ friendly, re-mastered and extended versions of 'Scribbled,' which is a cult deep house delight that first came more than 20 years ago back on Out To Lunch. It has everything a timeless deep hose track should - lo-fi and blissed out drums, melancholic ambient pads, a cute little vocal hook and delicate spieling of percussion to keep things from getting too horizontal. All three versions are superb.

Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Review: For big-room techno, there are few finer labels out there right now - or ever - than Adam Beyer's monstrous Drumcode. The boss himself dropped a huge EP not so long ago and now turns to Space 92 for the latest aural assault. The artist serves up just two tracks but both are hugely weaponised affairs, starting with 'Time.' It is lacerated by gurgling synth lines that fire across its face like lasers, while the rolling beats and edgy stabs all build the tension. Review: As Soul Capsule, Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior made some of minimal techno's most accomplished records. It has been many years since they stopped turning out new material - sadly - but their archive tracks are still in hot demand and undeniably relevant. While 1999's 'Lady Science' might be their most famous offering, this EP from 2001 on Aspect Music is no less vital and it will currently cost you well over L250 on second-hand markets. It is Ford's Trelik label who reissues it here in all its glory: the entirety of the a-side is taken up with 'Law Of Grace,' a delightfully deep and breezy minimal dub house roller with pensive chords draped over the frictionless drums. 'Meltdown' has a more experimental feel with brushed metal drums beneath a wordless vocal musing. The cult 'Lady Science' (Tek Mix) is also inched with the whole package being remastered by D&M to make this one utterly essential.

Review: Nu Zau & Sepp return to Gettraum after previously featuring on the label's recent compilation, this time with more of their groovy tech house sounds. Sepp kicks off with 'Recognize That' which pairs acid-tinged synths with thumping drums and some nice analogue percussive clatter. On the flip, Nu Zau's 'I See You' is a balmy, breezy cut with dubby low ends, silvery tech drums and nice fractured vocals stretched throughout the mix next to happy melodies. The label head Traumer steps up to remix and flips this one into a deeper, more heads-down cut for the late-night hours.

Review: German techno veteran Thomas Schumacher is in no mood to take it easy on this new drop for Electric Ballroom, which turns the rave intensity up to 11. The acid lines coursing through the centre of 'Off World' are gnarly and distorted, while the breakdowns and build-ups are expertly engineered for explosive results on the dancefloor, sirens wailing and kicks thundering. It's a sound which neatly folds old-skool 90s motifs into a sleek modern framework, sure to go off with the harder end of the techno spectrum. Review: Daniel Klein aka SIRS impressed us recently with his fine work on Robert Johnson and is now back on his own Sirsounds Records label with a seriously seductive collection of tunes. His The East Is Near EP brings melodies from that faraway land to Balearic beats. The Berlin based talent kicks off with the winky and intricate rhythms of 'Zappelnder Hindu' before 'Treibsand' layers up what sounds like a didgeridoo with loose-limbed drums. Review: It's been a while since we last heard from former Ubiquity Records modern soul starlet Jeremy Ellis. Despite his mid-2000s success, the man with the golden tonsils has been off the radar since 2010. He's sounding as smooth and soulful as ever on this surprise return to action, lending his impeccable tones to a chunk of lilting deep house from Sandman and Riverside. Kai Alice handles remix duties on the A-side, delivering a tactile chunk of heavily electronic deep house with fluid chords and extended solos aplenty. That musical fluidity comes to the fore on the flipside KZREKchampa Club Dub, which peppers a shuffling, glassy-eyed groove with selected snippets of Ellis's brilliant vocal.

Mark Knight's label has mastered the art of maximal sounds and this eighth volume of the Tooroom Sampler series is another one that will do plenty of damage. Essel's 'Sweat' is a rigid tech cut with stiff synths and libidinous vocals, then Shiba San and Ayarez get direct with shuffling tech house cut 'Twist It' complete with big skewed synths. Review: Deetron's been turning out serene house and techno for many a year but he changes tact here and presents Soulmate on Ilian Tape. It's an EP with a wide array of influences and kicks off with 'Path' which is bright, melodic, electric house music with cow bells galore. 'Zoom' is tightly coiled, loopy, dusty, turbocharged tackle with a warming intensity and then 'Screen' pairs more balmy and blissed-out chords with hurried beats and layers of FX and percussion. Last of all is the best of the lot - 'Blade'. It's a tribal, percussive cut that cannot fail to sweep you off your feet.

Review: Three years in and Guachinche are proving themselves to be an essential outpost for UK hardcore and rave styles in Spain. Making their interests abundantly clear, their latest 12" is a VA affair simply titled The Rave. You know exactly what to expect from this release then, and DJ Rasco and Bubble Couple more than deliver on the rolling breakbeat and euphoric piano of 'Old Groove'. Suga7 mixes things up a little with some trancey elements folded into a deft, moody workout, while Mutantbreakz brings all the emotions to 'Keep It Up'. Raverman completes the set with a sound which is closer to the US big beat style of the late 90s, complete with some cyberpunk acid lines and a thread of mysticism in the breakdown. If you want big, bold rave styles, this record has got them in abundance.

Review: Back in November 2022, Steffi dropped her The Red Hunter album in dedication to her mother. It was a typically fierce offering from the Dutch talent and now three of its tracks get reworks by some of her finest pers. The 12" on Candy Mountain opens with 'Irreversible Cessation' (Convextion remix) which is a rumbling and futuristic techno twister, then 'Individuals From All Walks' (Rosati Remix) picks up the pace with some high speed dub techno that powers through the night in hypnotic fashion. Last off all, 'North Facing Shade' (Tracing Xircles remix) is a broken beat excursion with more astral synth sounds and a smooth overall aesthetic that is utterly absorbing.

It is now a mighty fine 20 years young and to mark the occasion has put together a series of fine samplers that explore the sort of varied and vital sounds it deals in. This first one kicks off with the evergreen Nya and bouncy piano house bumper 'Broken Needs'. Ninos Indigo's 'Luna' then gets a nice future-facing electro rework from Shanti Celeste that gets you on your toes and Dam Swindle then bring some loopy and feel-good house vibes to 'Allright (Just A Tribute)', a real nod to Chez Damier's early sound. You'll find plenty of fine examples of this on the latest instalment, volume four. Review: Mighty European powerhouse Drumcode rolls out more of its techno tsunamis here with part one of the 12th volume of its A Sides collection. The boss himself, Adam Beyer, offers up one of the biggest cuts - 'Heading South' is a surging, straight-up techno weapon rippled with deft synths that ever forever on the move. Danny Avila's 'My Crew' (feat Flowdan) is built on a foundation of earth-shattering kicks and rolling bass with hellish stabs and vocal fragments making for an intense atmosphere, and Simina Grigoriu's 'Flight Tracker' is the sort of quick-moving techno sound to lock you into a trance. Add in LAAT's 'The Age Of Juno' (oi oi!) and you have a very useful and high impact EP of contemporary techno.

Review: The North Quarter locks in another superbly stylish EP of functional but characterful drum & bass rhythms here. This one comes from LIN000 and features bunch of self titled tracks. The first is a supper, with fluid bass and low end oscillations. The second is more roomy and cancerous. It operates in an underwater world of bendy bass and crisp hits, then the flip side opens with a more raw, textural and fixing mix of synths and clacking hits before the closer pairs a high speed breakbeat with synths that twist and turn at their own speed.

Review: Steve O'Sullivan's Mosaic label is back with a second volume of its dubs series, this time on nice yellow vinyl with Sub Basics and Fletcher given one side each to shine. Sub Basics goes first with 'Mediterranean', a lovely liquid dub with bottomless depths and perfectly smooth, frictionless drums. Lovely soft melodies drift in and out as the echoing hits and icy hi-hats help oil this most heady of grooves. On the flip, Fletcher offers up 'Sludge' which is a little more tense and menacing, with darker bass and more texture as well as distant groaning pads that keep you guessing and on edge.

Review: Fresh from releasing one of his best singles to date - the deep, melodic, peak-time ready techno brilliance of 'Granada' - Stojche returns to his own imprint, Tangible Assets, with another must-check EP. The Berlin-based Macedonian begins by wrapping spacey, dub techno style motifs around a galloping techno beat on 'Frontline', before opting for sweaty, jacking drums, throbbing bass and breathless ride cymbals aplenty on 'Body Language'. Review: There is an immediately loveable vibe to the carefree and breezy house music that the Italian label Groove Culture deals in. This is the 15th such offering - a third volume of its Jam series - and again the good times flow from the off. 'Devoted' is a four-way collab between Micky More, Andy Tee, Reverendos Of Soul and Anduze that layers up the soulful drums and disco percussion with buttery smooth soul vocals. Serge Funk's 'Can't Get Enough' is all swirling strings and sunny trumpet motifs over funk house beats and then Micky More & Andy Tee appear to remix 'All I Want' into another future Body & Soul classic. The duo's own 'Philly Sensation" is a disco-tinged, string-heavy house dream to close.

Review: This is the first release by Taste The Rainbow, a new vinyl-only label founded by Seizun, a duo consiting of Benjamin Joseph and t.na with a string of releases on Constant Black, Aesthetic, Day Dream, Before, Moving People, Cira Groove, Peoples and Into The Woods already under theior respective belts. 'Bare Maximum' and 'Battery Gate', which effortlessly work in endless shuffles and variations between their relatively bare-bones skeletons, are examples of an unusually layered and textured form of minimal techno, while friends of the label Lizz and Kearun each remix a track in fine fashion too.

Review: Samann has always served up classically inclined house sounds on a variety of labels and Traxx Underground is home to his latest. Opener 'Your Touch' is one of his best ever to be honest - an effortlessly smooth cut with frayed edges, humid chords running through the middle and a simple but effective vocal sample full of soul. 'June' has more bounce and a hint of New York swing from the 90s while 'Your Touch' (Tuccillo dub mix) is a playful one for the early evening. The same Ibiza based producer offers a vocal mix of Them Blues that is great for sunny outdoor sessions.

Review: Ian Weatherall and Duncan Gray's Sons Of Slough project has done plenty of tinkering in the intersection between club and dub music, and somewhere between all that Scottish rock perennials Primal Scream often find their own comfortable nook to stretch out. As such, this 12" seems like a natural course of events, even if it came about through the pure whimsy of a day-dreaming muso (Weatherall) wondering what would happen if an obscure bonus track got stripped down and sent through the echo chamber. Bobby Gillespie was into the idea, and this record was the end result. One for all Balearic head nodders and soundsystem meditators alike.

Mark Knight's outlet is a go-to for the big room lovers and pool party crews of the world and it's easy to see why when you tune into his latest label sampler. It brings together the old and the new school with the piano laced, steely house pumper 'Make You Happy' from Mark Knight, Todd Terry and James Hurr kicking off. Review: Thomas Schumacher has been on the scene for decades and somewhat harks back to his early days with this raw 90s techno offering on Germany's Electric Ballroom. The trance vibes are heavy on opener 'Come Closer,' which has synths fired from a laser, wailing female vocals and euphoria chords up top all designed for maximum peak time impact. On the flip is the wall-rattling warehouse techno cut 'Renegade' (feat Maketech) with its shimmering chords hanging in the air above the stomping, forceful techno drums.

Review: Demi Riquisimo's 'A Lifetime On The Hips' sublabel returns to make it a hat-trick of releases for 2023 with the impressive 'Body Move' V/A, featuring eclectic club cuts from Dreamrdreamr, SY, Papa Nugs, Elfenberg, Absolute. & Ysanne. Dreamdreamr's emotive 'Zone 4 Booty Call' kicks off the A-side; it's a track that effortlessly fuses elements of deep house, trance, and r&'b, setting the the tone perfectly for an EP not bound by the borders of any genre. The titular 'Body Move' by SY is up next; a no-nonsense house chugger with flourishes of Italian 90s progressive and acid - a perfect modern interpretation of a foundational strand of club music. The A-side wraps up with one of 2023's most exciting prospects Papa Nugs and the vocoder infused, percussive, twisted jam 'Loosey Goosey'. The flip picks up right where the A-side left off with Elfenberg's 'Solarplexus', a cosmic, evolving and psychedelic interpretation of house. After, UK mainstay Absolute offers a 'Devastating Rhythm', a peak time techno floor filler that sounds like a Frankenstein mix of seminal imprints Dance Mania & D'jax-Up-Beats' output - proper gear. Finally, drawing the curtain on the 'Body Move' V/A is Ysanne's 'Tisno Tango'; a slightly more introspective cut, but with more than enough groove to make you dance, a perfect closer.

Review: A superb 12" slab of rare South London British jazz funk, originally released in the UK in 1984 by Jamaican-born producer Tony Williams, the man behind the seminal Funk Masters' jazz-funk masterpiece, 'Love Money'. Now heard again, 'Keep On Searching For Love' is emblematic of London's 80s dub disco sound, with its every constituent part recorded, arranged and processed to the discotheque-addict's letter. Gated snares and acapella croons abound, with the uplifting vocals of Linda Taylor shining as brilliantly as star at the peak of its supernova. The flipside instrumental, 'Eastern Lady', comes complete with hypnotic bassline, drum machines, synths and stabbing horn lines; both tracks have been lovingly remastered from tape and now come exquisitely repackaged for you to enjoy. Gotta keep on!

Review: Cabinet is one of those labels that has been turning out the tuned for years and the quality level somehow never seems to dip. This latest 12" opens up with a Daniel Paul edit of Da Kick Squad's 'Do This Gig' which is slick tech with hints of Melchior's smooth sound design. Daniel Paul & DJ Trike' 'Rollo' (Atitlan version) is another perfect example of nailing a sweet and hypnotic house loop and just letting it run for days. Sadan's 'Creamster Shake'is a more trippy and lithe affair with some playful melodies and Flashbaxx's 'Gold' is a deep, late night and candle-lit sound for romantic and intimate spaces.

Review: Austrian-born Salute has absolutely mastered the art of crafting simple, effective, emotional house bangers. His perfect loops seem utterly off the cuff and made in a second, but they never fail to really get you where it matters. After several outings on various labels, he now steps up to the revered Ninja Tune offshoot Technicolur with his latest slab of sublime house gold. Across four firing cuts he once again locks you in and swells your heart with his irresistibly uptempo and dusty drums and meticulously crafted synths, all embellished with perfect samples. 'Feels Like My Hands Are On Fire' is the winner here on another fine EP.
