Deep House
Days Of Life (9:32)
Our Instinct (7:24)
Cosmic Bossa (feat Eve) (6:22)
Review: The Yore label has got some lush jazzy house delights on its hands here thanks to Shaka, who steps up to the plate with Days Of Life. The EP opens with 'Cosmic Bossa' which has golden sustained chords and Latin stuffing rhythms with a worldly vocal bringing the heat up top. 'Days Of Life' has a rich feel-good vibe with rousing horns and lots of happy pianos all stitched into another steamy and organ-laced deep house beat. Last of all is 'Our Instinct,' a playful US garage-style cut with skip in the drums and more serious synth craft full of joy.

Let Me In (7:58)
Sweet Like Gravity (6:40)
She Dances Her Story (7:03)
Review: Scott Grooves is back on his own Modified Suede label with another masterclass in true-skool US deep house from a master of the sound. There's some serious soul to sup on here, as Cjay Hill lends vocals to a pair of tracks with a smouldering intensity. 'Let Me In' has a bruk edge to the groove which goes down smooth with the lingering keys behind Hill's vocal. 'Sweet Like Gravity' is a lighter, airier joint with a spring in its step, Hill sounding more uplifted in turn thanks to his sonic surroundings. B2 track 'She Dances Her Story' is a different beast altogether, using a powerful speech from Salakastar painting a picture of a powerful Nubian woman over one of Groove's tougher beats, making dancefloor dynamite in the process.

Review: Sato is on top form on this lovely-looking silver slab via Chapelle XIV Music, with four tracks of gritty, echoey grooves stretched out the two sides. 'B01V' finds him in dubbed-out and deep techno mode with cavernous rhythms filled with icy and hissing hi-hats. 'A57V' then picks up the pace but remains a nice liquid groove, while the flipped offers two alternative takes.

El Saleroso (3:55)
Proteus (3:21)
Review: The Son Rompe Pera band is made up of the Gama brothers and is known for having reinvented the traditional Mexican Marimba sound with their own perspective and energy. As such it is now a contemporary genre in their hands and hot on the heels of their last 7" on Barbes comes this follow-up with plenty of carnival overtones. 'El Saleroso' is a slow and swaggering tune with rich layers of percussion and stunning melodies all topped off with a Spanish vocal. 'Proteus' has more contemporary synths next to the traditional instrumentation and overflows with colours and cultural charm.

Julie's Theme (7:55)
Inferno (7:17)
Track 3 (locked groove) (3:14)
Review: There's a feeling with Sound Stream records akin to supping on a cup of tea after a long hard winter day, so perfectly pitched and satisfying is his approach to making house music. On "Julie's Theme", there's some unabashed delay rippling going on, but still that ever-loving disco groove sits underneath in the bassline on the one and the natural hand claps. On the flip, the disco is thoroughly loud and proud, with "Inferno" resplendent in searing Philly strings and slinky bass that was built for grooving. Once again, Sound Stream has delivered a simple but meaningful demonstration of house music perfection.

Review: Sunshine Sound is the NYC imprint that became recognised as the birthplace of the edit, through a series of genre defining releases. It is back with another golden oldie, re-spliced with paramount expertise and respect by the one and only Francois K. The multi-layered and utterly hypnotic "I Feel Love Medley" (Francois K edit) is a long sought after rework of the well known Donna Summer classic. Over on the flip, from the depths of the label's archive is another Donna Summer classic - the unique 'Faster & Faster Medley' edited by Canada's Jacques Lessard.

Happy Song (Walter Gibbons Battle edit) (5:32)
Review: Take a journey to the dawn of DJ culture with Sunshine Sound, the NY imprint that became recognised as the 'Birthplace of the Edit'. The Francois K and Walter Gibbons resplices here of 'Happy Song' is their first vinyl release, known as the original DJ tool (and the original bonus beat) which has been the source of countless samples and imitations since it first appeared in 1977. Kevorkian's version on the A side is the most commonly known one, with its upbeat infectious rhythm, while Gibbons' take over on the flip has more stomp and was very much streamlined for his legendary DJ sets at Galaxy 21.

Review: Kimochi Sound welcomes back regular artist Shielding for another standout entry into the label's catalogue, this time on wax with a lovely hand-sprayed sleeve. It's a deep exploration of supple rhythm here with 'Ceiling Licker' mix up diffuse ambient arps and organic sounds from the great outdoors with a bubbling bassline. 'Hundred' is a trippy late night cut with a ghostly atmosphere and muted bells and chords drifting into earshot from way off in the distance. 'Kvadrat' is a late-night collaboration with Maeteriet from Sewer Sender Records that overlays a rubbery minimal rhythm with deft synth details and curious hooks to make for dark but ultimately charming listening.

Sometimes It Rains (feat Kaivili) (5:24)
Rich Man Poor Man (feat ROB) (6:24)
Okere (feat Bade) (4:51)
Hold Me Tonight (feat Steve Monite) (5:57)
Review: The star-studded Sai Galaxy project returns, bringing together West African legends Steve Monite and Rob with multi-instrumentalist Simon Durrington, guitar maestro Alfred Bannerman, and Egypt 80 trumpet player Bade, for a second EP of vital Afro-disco and soul. Following up 2020's 'Get It As You Move' EP, the likes of 'Sometimes It Rains', the homonymous 'Okere', the truth-to-power 'Rich Man, Poor Man', and the live and swinging coda 'Hold Me Tonight' paint a multifaceted picture of a trio, equally as concerned with groove delivery as they are with narrative storytelling. Most emblematic of Sai Galaxy's approach is their inspiration by analog production techniques of similar Afro-soul albums from the 1970s and 80s, adding a modern touch informed by Simon Durrington's Digital Afrika project.

Franco Cinelli - "Eternal Chant" (13:16)
Neuronal Netwrok - "Basic" (7:37)
Sascha Dive - "FEOS Treatment" (6:03)
Review: The always classy Movida calls upon Franco Cinelli, Neuronal Network and Sasha Dive for this new outing, which takes a deep dive into smooth techno with plenty of healthy Motor City overtones. Cinelli goes first with 'Eternal Chat' which rides on deep and supple drums with deft synths peeling off the groove. Neuronal Network's 'Basic' is a textbook dub techno cut with frosty chord vamps and icy hi-hats over super deep kicks. Last of all, Germany's Sasha Dive brings a little light and playful mood to his 'Foes Treatment' with its shiny leads and more tech house-style grooves.

Review: The Far East is calling once more with this latest Japanese take on reggae and ska from the good people at Urban Discos. It is a high tempo and raucous offering from Scafull King with two different versions of the same tune on both sides. 'Lyin' Ass Bitch' (Kaela Kimura version) is first and brings bustling drums and imposing ska rhythms with layers of organ and fiery vocals making for a big and in-your-face sound. The second version is even more rock-edged with hammering drums and walls of fuzzy guitar.

Twenty Seven (4:03)
More... I Like It (instrumental) (5:01)
Review: REPRESS ALERT! Best Record Italy take the time machine all the way back to 1979 to revisit the wonderful Italo-Disco delights of Adolf Stern, whose "More... I Like It" represents the strangest end of the genre as it was taking shape. With heavily processed vocals injecting some serious strangeness into the chirpy disco backdrop, it's the kind of track to turn heads without a doubt. "Twenty Seven" on the B-side is equally magical in its capturing of the era, with the more obvious surface elements underpinned by a truly intoxicating line in synth arpeggios. Once again Best comes up trumps refreshing the history of Italian music of all shapes and sizes.

Review: Sanderson Dear's Stasis Recordings released the original Time Capsule compilation in 2020 - a 20-track exploration of ten different ambient techno artists exploring two ideas each in compact form for a box set of 7"s. Now the label has revisited some of the project's standout moments and offered a chance to enjoy extended versions gathered on a single 12". From Maps Of Hyperspace shaping out atmospheric halls of synth work on 'Beta' to Glo Phase offering some gorgeous, sparkling grooves on 'Fire Flies', there's plenty of ground covered on this release. Of course the mighty John Beltran is a big drawer too, and his typically stellar 'The Descendent' doesn't disappoint in its full extended version.

Review: Lord Of The Isles's Dusk Delay label kicked off with a bang and now carries on with a canter as Kimochi Sound and Hanagasumi regular Shine Grooves takes control of the second EP. It's one of his best yet with 'Picture Of Mood' layering up perfectly dreamy ambient keys and pads over a supple and minimal rhythm that is suggested more than solidified. Flashback (Mike Vox edit)
Review: San Diego's Tabby Traxx is back with a second release that will again jack the club. This one is a debut from Steezy Ray Vaughan that blends old school acid into new school tools. 'Stalker' opens with a heavy drum stomp and eerie one-note melodies then Matt's Creepin' mix brings a lashing of acid madness over sci-fi tech drums. 'Flashback' has a more undulating and deep acid feel as the 303 is drawn out over razor sharp hi hats and rolling drums. 'Flashback' (Mike's Vox edit) has a little more menace for those freaky late-night after parties.

Body Blow
Review:  been four years since Chicago producer Andres "Specter" Ordonez pitched up on Theo Parrish's Sound Signature label with the smoky, bleep-laden killer "Pipe Bomb". Here, he returns to the Detroit veteran's imprint, bringing with him three more slabs of fuzzy analogue oddness. "The Gooch" is the real killer, a 10-minute freakout that sounds like a jazz band making murky techno with just analogue machinery to play with - all wonky electronics, subtle acid and loose but relentless cymbals. The bolder "Zodiak" impresses with its 303-driven aggression, while "Body Blow" sounds like Hieroglyphic Being jamming with Buddy Miles. On Mars. That's gotta be good, right?

Review: Founded in 1984 by the German duo Peter Mergener and Michael Weisser, Software is a mind-opening project in downtempo, cosmic travels. Featuring two carefully selected moments from the band's rich output, 'Sun-Beam' and 'Present Voice', German label Thank You have brought Software's patient, contemplative sound to the fore. The A-side sends listeners far out of orbit with a generous, ten minute long arpeggiated shower, growing elegantly and by gradients into something truly transcendent. The B-side is equally as otherworldly - flecked with eerie moments this track veers between Balearic bliss and an undercurrent of unease. A fantastic and beautifully remastered window into Software's soundworld.

Review: Seba's Secret Operations label is continuing its productive run into the archives with this fourth volume of reissue gold. Seba's sound is the kind which transcends the ages, sporting a luxurious, high-end production finish which means tracks like 'Special Ops' hasn't aged a jot in 15 years. 'Day By Night' on the B2 deserves a special mention - this is the Swedish mastermind at his fiercest, toying with stop-start dynamics, folding in industrial strength tones and textures and building the junglism so vivid it nearly bursts out of the speakers and manifests as a 3D object right before your eyes.

Review: Sidney Charles prides himself on making chunky house music that is raw but underpinned by a slick sense of swing. His Heavy House Society label is where most of it arrives but now he takes a detour to Nick Curly's long-running Cecille. 'Sonar Plexus' is irresistible European house music with razor sharp hi-hats, synth curlicues to soften the edges and precise drum work. 'Universal Highway' has a retro 90s feel - a sense of rushing endorphins and bobbing drum breaks that get hands in the air and 'Fearless' then gets liquid and funky with its effervescing rhythms and tumbling synth sequences. 'Turnover' closes out with a soulful US house feel and completes one of Charles's best-ever EPs.

In keeping with the Maltese producer's trademark sound, what's on offer is an attractive, highly accomplished blend of electro, glassy-eyed underground electronica, acid and ambient techno. Our pick of an extremely strong bunch is closing cut 'Memory Re-Generation', a deep, melodious and loved-up affair in which TB-303 acid lines and gorgeous melodies bubble away atop tight electro beats, warm bass and ultra-dreamy chords. There's plenty to get the pulse racing elsewhere across the EP too, including the lovely - and hard-to pigeonhole - opener 'Don't Let Go' and the tighter, tougher electro club jam 'Let The Music Take Control'.

An original copy will cost you a fair few quid on the second-hand market so do not sleep on this one as it is incredible Egyptian-influenced Italo with Arabic vocals. It has been remade by other artists over the years but this version remains the best with its cultural sounds and worldly grooves set to bring greatness to any set.

Review: After making an impressive turn on Wisdom Teeth last year, Okand Konstnar returns to Kimochi Sound with a new grip of bubbling, left-of-centre techno grooves for those who like things supremely dubby and dipped in stardust. There are discernible grooves coursing throughout this latest Shielding record, but the beats play second fiddle to nimble melodic lines and atmospheric ripples. Even on 'Indoors', the more kinetic thrum of the beat feels closer to a tonal synth part than a beat. 'Vinter' meanwhile invites us into a beatless realm where the synthetic organisms in Shielding's biome have the run of the place. It's deep, immersive techno existing on the fringes, where the most interesting things tend to happen.

Review: Leading the way for minimal sounds in their hometown of Venice, Caposile present the second volume of their The Sound Of Garden series with another four high-quality workouts aiming at the subtler kind of dancefloor. Mihai Pol is up first with 'Sugar Rush', a trippy delight with bouncy bass and shimmering synths garnished with an iconic sample. Francesco Maddalena ups the tempo and creates a swirling dream of garage house-meets-jazzy ambient that should grease up the dancers a treat. Giuliano Lomonte locks in for a heady ride through gated chords and teasing patterns with elegance at their core, and Sublee drops something rougher with the old-skool stylings of 'Day Six', a boxy jam that would sound right at home on Nu Groove.

The open has a creeping melodic sequence that is forever subtly shifting and brings a sense of eeriness to the smooth and unhurried dub rhythms below. 'Inenarrabilis' is then a double quick flurry of tiny synth loops and trippy effects then 'Plena Lunae' allows you to breathe once more and sink into a vast dub soundscape. 'Ego Experior' shuts down with some paranoid baselines bubbling up through a slowly churning groove. Some quality work here for sure.

It is always not he move and pairs ambient pads with lo-fi fuzz. bubbling synths with thunder clouds, sprinklings of percussion and subtle rhythms. Review: We're not quite sure about the story behind this EP - Bathurst have not made clear whether it's the first in a series, or whether there's a theme - but the music on show is well-worth checking. Zoe Leonard dons the Simmerdown guise on excellent opener 'Legitimacy', a slowly unfurling affair that craftily combines sun-kissed ambient electronics with cut-up, club-ready beats, gargantuan bass and 140 style vocal cut-ups. David Hanke delivers two contrasting cuts: the shuffling, bass-heavy, spacey-but-sleazy excellence of 'Deep Shit Part 3' as Black Soyls, and the cheerier and bouncier 'Mirrorsides' under his given name. Our favourite though is ITO's 'Citylights', a jazzy, slipped instrumental number full of beautiful piano flourishes and languid bass.

It comes here as a peak time cut, deeper version, silky smooth garage-tinged vibe from Eddie Leader and darker offering from Terry Farley & Kevin Swain Angel. An essential package for sure.

Rinconade
Review: South Atoms is an artist from Argentina who brings plenty of Latin flair to this new EP on In Waves. The artwork conveys the underwater fluidity of the opener 'Bersine' which is a rolling and deep tech cut with delicate melodies sprinkled up top next to shards of piercing synth light. 'El Mundo De Las Cosas' picks up the pace with more slapping tech funk and shimmering chords. It is on 'Persea' that things slow down a little with humid pads and tropical vibes over the deep rolling kicks. 'Rinconade' might be the best of the lot with its majestic bell sounds and undulating rhythms worming their way into your affections.

Review: Matt Sewell is a number of things - author, artist, illustrator and curator of killer compilations - but until now 'Balearic producer' was not one of them. Sewell & The Gong is his new sunset-ready project, created in collaboration with fellow producer and multi-instrumentalist Chris Tate. The pair's debut EP is full of slow-burn, sun-kissed treats, with Sewell's acoustic guitar sounds providing a focal point throughout. They set the tone with gorgeous, pastoral-sounding opener 'Tonight We Fly' - a folksy, sun-soaked treat - before tiptoeing towards Balearic dancefloors with the throbbing and summery 'Passing oort Clouds'. 'The Stars In The Sky & The Stones In The Earth' is like a more acoustic take on Seahawks, while 'Better Words' is a hypnotic, slo-mo chugger.

Review: Novaj Records presents its second vinyl release - 'Space Energy', an electrifying compilation EP inviting listeners on an interstellar journey through a wide array of sonic cosmologies, in good stead with the nascent trend of space-age acid house emergent of late. Lauching into the boundless realms of space, the likes of Donnie Cosmo's 'Venus Transit', MLink's 'Frequencia' and Sunaas' 'Flash Dancer' are all as enchanting as they are out-of-body-experience-inducing.

Track 2 (6:02)
Review: The Revivis-run Santo Tomas label launches a new edits offshoot devoted to reworking less obvious, forgotten house and prog gems from the 90s. The A-side is a collision of techno, prog and trance with cosmic synths, twitchy pads and plenty of old school stabs. The flip is a little more stripped back - the drums slap, the acid lines grow ever more wild, and a steamy and sensuous vocal sample is run through the middle for maximum emotional impact. Two dancefloor destroyers, for sure.

Review: Sweet Linda Divine has a big old set of lungs on her. She proves that here with this 7" on Dynamite Cuts which comes on both ball vinyl and limited edition white wax. Both sides offer very different sounds. 'I'll Say It Again' is a raw cut with fat funk bass riffs and lively drums, expressive yelps and wails that cannot fail to bring the steaminess. On the flip, 'Same Time, Same Place' slows it right down to a more sentimental and heartbroken soul sound but still with plenty of power.

Atlas (Shall Ocin & Artbat remix) (6:20)
Review: Marc Romboy and Stephan Bodzin make for one of the most celebrated duos in techno. Here their 'Atlas' tune gets a remix from Ukrainian duo Artbat & Shall Orin on Systematic. They're artists at the heart of the modern melodic techno movement. Their remix here is a one-sided 12" that is designed for the main room. The percussive energy and sweeping synths build and build over the driving, rubbery beats. Its serene, well-designed, and a surefire standout cut that will get hands in the air on plenty of the world's biggest stages.

Review: Get your marching boots on and strap in for a white knuckle ride from fledgling label Body to Body. This second release from the French crew is another thrilling take on hard techno and gabba as Sina XX links up with different artists across four cuts. First, it is with Dance Divine for the flat-footed menace and lashing synths of 'Dancefloor Is Hot' then Metaraph joins for 'Color Of People,' a cut that burrows deep on an oversized bassline and edgy string stabs unsettle the mood. Sina XX & Lacchesi's 'Goth It' is a minimal excursion on tightly wrapped drums and bass that are full of pent-up tension then last of all is the most brain-frying and textural rave of the lot as Enahm and Lessss join in for 'Le Demon.'

Review: The well regarded Avoidant hits a 20th release in superlative fashion here with some hefty names offering up hefty sounds. None other than techno pin up and Berghain hero Marcel Dettman opens up with 'Motorman' which is a dystopian number riddled with spoken words, bright metallic flashy and grubby bass. Scottish legends Slam pick up the pace with the knick-snapping drums and hits of sleazy electro banger 'Into The Light' and then Luz1e get you riding on rubbery, bumping ghetto-tech drums on 'Draw The Line' before last of all comes the coruscated intergalactic battle that is Sod-90's 'Vinyl Corset.' The A-side features a special 45 version of 'Secret Life Of Us', a catchy and uplifting anthem from The Sunburst Band's fourth album. Review: Dynamite cuts are in the midst of releasing a fresh series of De Wolfe library grooves, owing to the esteemed Dutch library's impressive catalogue of obscurios which nonetheless still provide ample source material for DJs, samplers, and obsessives. These two grooves are lifted from the original, said-to-be-mega-rare Formula album by Barry Stoller, from 1972. 'Long Weekend' and 'Design' are equally tooly movers, not just rhythmic weapons, but also gateway drugs to Stoller's extensive back catalogue of distilled, two-minute-long ideas.

Lemmi Ash - "Presence" (7:10)
KOOLMFL - "Atonbow" (5:14)
Sonic Weapon - "HOMIE" (5:30)
Review: Japan's Thinner Groove flesh out their distinctive aesthetic with every new release. This time around, they welcome none other than Lemmi Ash, KOOLMFL and Sonic Weapon for a collaborative three-track EP of lowercase minimal tech and textural vignettes. The aim of the game is best encapsulated in the label's commentary: "each track can add a distinctive touch to the night, as like completing your cocktail with lemon and/or lime". Each track indeed sounds to the ear akin to how a fruity garnish tastes, with Ash's 'Presence' bringing tart citrine breaks notes to a gracefully held glass vessel. KOOLMFL's 'Atonbow' is drier bitters, barely availing itself of its trembling chords and sampled vox after an ultra-snappy initiation featuring a mere bass and kick-clap. Thinner Groove know all too well that good music is like an excitation of the flavour palate, and that minimality is the thing that lets such flavours sit.

Review: Few are better at saucer-eyed, rave revivalism than Victor Shan. He's made a habit of successfully doffing a cap to the early '90s, primarily via collaborations with Tuff City Kids and the booming Chord Memories 12" on Running Back. Here he's at it again, kicking off with a "Piano Mix" of "Work It" that sounds like a long lost collaboration between Inner City and Tyree Cooper. There's a more flustered, UK hardcore feel about "Bassline Party", even if it does contain a classic Chicago house bassline and a swinging, boompty style groove. Flip for a ghetto style "Miami Mix" of work it, plus a couple of handy DJ tools (the hip-house-goes-rave groove of the "Rave Beats" version being particularly potent).

Review: Some Trans-Atlantic collaborative action here, as New York deep house and techno don Fred P joins forces with London-based French producer Smbd (formerly known as Simbad) for the very first time. Given both producers' undoubted abilities and musical approaches, you'll be unsurprised to discover that 'When The Mantras Return' blends deep, jazzy and intergalactic sounds with beats that variously reference jacking house, broken beat and intergalactic techno. Highlights include the jazzy, deep space house of 'Be Your Self', the acid-fired heaviness of 'Conscious Feedback (Part 1 & 2)', the dubby, spaced-out house excellence of 'Rawness', and the ambient techno meets broken beat wonder that is 'Innerspace'.

The A-side cut is sublime ambient techno awash in layers of intricately woven textures, led by a gently bouncing arpeggio. Over on the flip, the second offering takes a more abstract turn with an emphasis on the hypnotic polyrhythms that underpin its overall ritualistic and psychedelic arrangement - altogether geared for pure enlightenment. Review: Samann has always served up classically inclined house sounds on a variety of labels and Traxx Underground is home to his latest. Opener 'Your Touch' is one of his best ever to be honest - an effortlessly smooth cut with frayed edges, humid chords running through the middle and a simple but effective vocal sample full of soul. 'June' has more bounce and a hint of New York swing from the 90s while 'Your Touch' (Tuccillo dub mix) is a playful one for the early evening. The same Ibiza based producer offers a vocal mix of Them Blues that is great for sunny outdoor sessions.

He keeps on doing that too and is now back on his own label Strictly Jazz Unit Muzic with this new and epic single 'Pleading Prayer'. It's a spiritual and soulful sound with the fantastic vocals of Swaylo adding real spine tingling goodness.
