Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. "Want You In My Soul" is a mix of old and new, where disco percussion and cosmic synths nestle alongside a mid tempo house groove with plenty of warmth. Review: There's a feeling with Sound Stream records akin to supping on a cup of tea after a long hard winter day, so perfectly pitched and satisfying is his approach to making house music. On "Julie's Theme", there's some unabashed delay rippling going on, but still that ever-loving disco groove sits underneath in the bassline on the one and the natural hand claps. On the flip, the disco is thoroughly loud and proud, with "Inferno" resplendent in searing Philly strings and slinky bass that was built for grooving. Once again, Sound Stream has delivered a simple but meaningful demonstration of house music perfection.

Review: Up next for Adam Beyer's esteemed Drumcode imprint is Enrico Sangiuliano, a Milan based DJ/producer originally from Reggio Emilia who has been been active on the Italian scene since the early noughties, playing everywhere from clubs to illegal raves. His work of late has been released on sister label Truesoul, Alleanza, Gem Records, Octopus Recordings and Rhythm Converted. On "Moon Rocks", Sangiuliano provides a euphoric, hands in the air anthem with soaring synth leads and seriously humming Reese bassline over a high octane beat. Also on the A side is the mad diva vocal breakdown on "Ghettoblaster" which soon gives way to a dark and tunnelling epic. Finally on the flip, we have two versions of "Dutch Kiss" but for our money it's all about the sombre and emotive IDM vibe of the Inner remix.

Review: South Street's latest missive gathers together a trio of club-friendly remixes of Nina Simone classics that first appeared on the 2006 compilation "Remixed & Reimagined". Francois K impresses with an A-side revision of Simone's celebrated cover of Beatles classic "Here Comes The Sun" that sounds like a long lost Larry Heard record from his classic Fingers Inc. period. Those after something a little more rolling and funk-fuelled should wrap their ears around Tony Humphries' Dub of "Turn Me On", which boasts a seductive mixture of Romanthony style hard loops and rumbling, UK garage influenced bass. Completing the package is Coldcut's fine re-imagining of "Save Me", which places Simone's heart-arching vocal atop skittish, club-ready drums and looped guitars.

Review: REPRESS ALERT! Best Record Italy take the time machine all the way back to 1979 to revisit the wonderful Italo-Disco delights of Adolf Stern, whose "More... I Like It" represents the strangest end of the genre as it was taking shape. With heavily processed vocals injecting some serious strangeness into the chirpy disco backdrop, it's the kind of track to turn heads without a doubt. "Twenty Seven" on the B-side is equally magical in its capturing of the era, with the more obvious surface elements underpinned by a truly intoxicating line in synth arpeggios. Once again Best comes up trumps refreshing the history of Italian music of all shapes and sizes.

Review: London disco/funk/house label Tropical Disco returns, with their second edition of edits and disco remixes: courtesy of Cheshire's Simon Kennedy and London's Alex Sartori aka DJ Sartorial. They team up in tandem for a respectful remix of a right classic on "Can't Be Me": featuring the same familiar hook that J.B. Boogie used last year on Springbok. The rest of the way it's all about Sartorial - who flies solo for the remainder of the release; an edit of a classic Saint Tropez track as sampled by Moodymann on "Sunday Morning" and Black Booby more recently on "Know The Times". Finally, there's yet another golden oldie by a certain funk and disco group from the Bahamas entitled "At Midnight" and there's no guesses as to who that one's by.

Review: By now we should all know what to expect from the Tropical Disco Records collective: namely respectable floor-friendly re-edits underpinned by chunky house drums. Moodena handles the A-side, first tidying up and beefing up a disco-funk jam rich in life-affirming piano solos ("What Da Funk"), before reaching for the filter sweeps on the trumpet, trombone and saxophone-laden Brazilian disco flex of "The Horns". Review: At the time of writing, Britain is basking in what feels like its 79th consecutive day of baking hot sunshine. What could be better, then, than another dose of tropical disco reworks from Sartorial and Moodena's fast-rising Tropical Disco imprint? Certainly, we can see a few open-air parties going wild to the impeccable piano solos and George Benson style jazz guitars of Moodeena's gently housed-up opener "Strawberry Jam", while Sartorial's "Feel It" is an urgent, guitar-laden rework of a familiar disco-funk favourite that should get things going on recognition factor alone. On the flip, Sartorial and Simon Kennedy successfully play around with a Pleasure-esque, jazz-funk-meets-disco number ("Got You The Floor"), before Sartorial gets the filters out for a tops-off dance through jazzy disco territory ("Electric Lane").

Review: By the time "Touch Me In The Morning" was mailed out to American DJs in 1979, Marlena Shaw has long since established herself as one of soul music's greatest voices. "Touch Me In The Morning" was merely a promo-only affair, remixed from the shorter "Take A Bite" album version - but it did become something of a dancefloor anthem in certain underground clubs. Review: Considered "the absolute Don of Italo piano house", Don Carlos is up next on esteemed NYC label Razor N Tape with an EP of rare vintage house from the archives - 30 years old in fact. For the uninitiated, Don (Carlo Troya) and S-Tone (Stefano Tirone) released two records on Italian imprint Calypso in the early '90s under the alias Montego Bay. Features the emotive, late-night garage of 'Music All Night' (Deep In Milano mix) followed by the low-slung dancefloor heater 'Keep Dancing The Boogie' on the A-side. Review: been four years since Chicago producer Andres "Specter" Ordonez pitched up on Theo Parrish's Sound Signature label with the smoky, bleep-laden killer "Pipe Bomb". Here, he returns to the Detroit veteran's imprint, bringing with him three more slabs of fuzzy analogue oddness. "The Gooch" is the real killer, a 10-minute freakout that sounds like a jazz band making murky techno with just analogue machinery to play with - all wonky electronics, subtle acid and loose but relentless cymbals. The boundlessly potentiated space between disco, dance and jazz is their game, and 'Tropical Disco Volume 23' proves they can win it time and time again. Four tracks of trumpetting 4x4 glory-buzz dominate this EP. Review: Hot on the heels of his rather good - though not particularly sub-heavy - Beast In My Bass EP on Automatic Writing, Sweely pitches up on Mulen for the very first time. In keeping with his evolving style, opener 'Super Deep' sits somewhere between deep house and tech-house, with warming, fluttering chords and whispered female vocal snippets riding bumping, US garage-influenced drums and heavy, chunky bass. 'What's Wrong' employs similar beats and bass but sees Sweely opt for jazzier chords, glitchy electronics and spacey stabs, while 'Underwater Adrenalinn'[sic] is darker and creepier in tone whilst retaining his usual funky drums and deep bass. Closing cut 'Against Your Idea', meanwhile, doffs a cap to late 1990s UK tech-house while being framed for 21st century dancefloors.

Review: Diego Strausz's first outing on Razor N Tape, a seven-inch single released in January 2021, was a thrillingly vibrant and hard-to-pigeonhole affair, with the Brazilian joining the dots between Batacuda, Brazilian disco, boogie and deep jazz-funk. This belated follow-up features superb, never-before-heard extended versions of those two tracks: the Azymuth-esque drums-synths-and-percussion explosion that is 'Emancipacao' and '50 Anos Em 5', a TB-303 acid-sporting slab of Latin jazz-fusion with bonus spacey synths. Perhaps the package's most notable moment though is Ron Trent's inspired remix of the title track, which in typical fashion sees the legendary deep house producer add extra layers of musicality, sun-kissed positivity and plenty of killer house-not-house beats.

Review: Remastered rarities by the late Susumu Yokota under his 246 and Prism monikers. Go Up was originally a defective release which has since been corrected and remastered and Vol 3 - 02 was not released. Review: There is an immediately loveable vibe to the carefree and breezy house music that the Italian label Groove Culture deals in. This is the 15th such offering - a third volume of its Jam series - and again the good times flow from the off. 'Devoted' is a four-way collab between Micky More, Andy Tee, Reverendos Of Soul and Anduze that layers up the soulful drums and disco percussion with buttery smooth soul vocals. Serge Funk's 'Can't Get Enough' is all swirling strings and sunny trumpet motifs over funk house beats and then Micky More & Andy Tee appear to remix 'All I Want' into another future Body & Soul classic. The duo's own 'Philly Sensation" is a disco-tinged, string-heavy house dream to close.

Review: Hamburg's Sidney Charles has been doing his thing for some 10 years, blazing a trail of fun and fruity house music which has graced the likes of Hot Creations, Moda Black, Relief and Moon Harbour. You would have last caught him on Eastenderz at the tail end of last year, and he's back on the label for round two with more of that freaky tech house gear that gets bodies wiggling. 'Phantom Jam' has fun with some funked up samples which bed down into the sleek modern production like butter on hot toast, while 'Catch The Beat' goes all out on tweaked synth lines and an insistent groove. There's sass and sophistication throughout this EP, marking another stone cold hit for Charles and Eastenderz alike.

Review: For those who value the lineage and heritage of breaks, beats, funk, soul, hip-hop and crate digging, here's a reissue you won't want to sleep on. Don Alias, Gene Perla and Steve Grossman originally laid down their debut record as Stone Alliance in 1976, and tucked away within the hard grooving jazz funk cuts was a track called 'Sweetie Pie'. This particular jam had a sax break which you know as soon as you hear it - sampled to high heaven and immortalised in the culture, now 'Sweetie Pie' is available on this neat and tidy 7" with a beautifully roomy live version on the flip if you want to edge a little difference into the mix.

Review: Following a string of alluring, melody-rich, digital-only EPs, Peace Symphonies makes its debut on wax with a multi-artist extravaganza. Gorge Hewek sets the tone with opener 'Peace Symphonies', a warming, sun-kissed slab of kaleidoscopic deep house/tech-house fusion that reminded us of some of the material released by the All Day I Dream label. Makebo's 'You' is a soft focus, dewy-eyed slab of sunrise-ready bliss underpinned by shuffling house drums, while 'Lazos' by Simon Vuarambon is a crunchy and groovy workout smothered in relaxed jazz piano solos and synth strings. Review: Here's something to get excited about - an unearthed, previously unreleased recording from Philadelphia International group Silk (best known for their soul smash 'I Can't Stop (Turning on You)', with modern club interpretations supplied by housed-up re-edit maestro Late Nite Tuff Guy. The band's original mix, which opens side B, is a gloriously joyful and breezy affair all told, with the group singing in perfect harmony atop a cheery backing track rich in piano riffs, glistening guitars, and a killer groove. Late Nite Tuff Guy delivers two tweaks: an A-side 'Disco Dub' that brilliantly reframes the track as a non-stop nu-disco party anthem that cannily combines the band's original vocals and instrumentation with a far chunkier, weightier, house club-friendly beat, and a suitably similar 'Short Edit' for those who want to get to the point a bit quicker.

Review: Sweet Linda Divine has a big old set of lungs on her. She proves that here with this 7" on Dynamite Cuts which comes on both ball vinyl and limited edition white wax. Both sides offer very different sounds. 'I'll Say It Again' is a raw cut with fat funk bass riffs and lively drums, expressive yelps and wails that cannot fail to bring the steaminess. On the flip, 'Same Time, Same Place' slows it right down to a more sentimental and heartbroken soul sound but still with plenty of power.

The boss himself offers up a Bluetrain special edition dub of Hidden Sequence's 'Synapse' which is all icy lines and liquid rhythms which make you think of some frozen lake on a misty morning. Sub Basics (Temple of Sound, Lion Charge Records) opens up with a fresh dub laden track with rippling chords, tons of echo and rolling drums on 'Quarters.' It is full of the sort of bliss out, dreamy, soft-edge deep house that is perfect for the warmer months and outdoor dances. Review: Prince Fatty's 'Mercedes Benz' with Shniece and Horseman is a rub-a-dub version of a 1970s hit from Janis Joplin that now gets a very special pressing courtesy of Lovedub Limited. The A-side kicks off with the spine-tingling and epic original vocal before disappearing into a world of reverb. At that point the dubby low end arrives and brings a different vibe to the stunning vocals but one that really makes a mark next to new bars from Horseman, police sirens and funky riffs. It's a tough sound system groove that is backed with a fine version and has been a firm fixture of Prince Fatty's record box for a while now.

Review: Few are better at saucer-eyed, rave revivalism than Victor Shan. He's made a habit of successfully doffing a cap to the early '90s, primarily via collaborations with Tuff City Kids and the booming Chord Memories 12" on Running Back. Here he's at it again, kicking off with a "Piano Mix" of "Work It" that sounds like a long lost collaboration between Inner City and Tyree Cooper. There's a more flustered, UK hardcore feel about "Bassline Party", even if it does contain a classic Chicago house bassline and a swinging, boompty style groove. Flip for a ghetto style "Miami Mix" of work it, plus a couple of handy DJ tools (the hip-house-goes-rave groove of the "Rave Beats" version being particularly potent).

Review: Don't let the playful, tongue-in-cheek title put you off; this EP does not contain 'Balearic gabba', should such a thing exist, but rather a quartet of largely dancefloor focused remixes of delightful downtempo cuts from the Hell Yeah! Recordings catalogue. SIRS steps up first to deliver a chugging, Italo-disco-goes-Balearic re-make of Carmel 3000's 'Super Rapido', before we're treated to one of Calm's TB-303-laden 'mellow acid' dubs, this time of Sergio Messina & The Four Twenties' gorgeous, soft and sun-soaked 'Sometimes Remember'. Over on side B, Feel Fly delivers a soft-focus Balearic deep house take on Pedro Bertho and Mariana Gehring's 'Tornei', while DJ Spun's revision of My Friend Dario's 'Acid Mosquito in a Summer Night' is a twisted, genuinely psychedelic dub disco excursion.

Review: Huntleys & Palmers introduced the wider world to the production talents of Sophie via his excellent Auntie Flo remix, and the same label offers further insight into this producer's clear understanding of how a good house track works on this killer 12". Sophie's statement that he tries "to make music which is fun to dance to-that should be the loudest voice talking" is very much evident on both "Nothing More To Say" and "Eeehhh". Already a long term favourite of everyone from Actress to Kode9 via the Numbers crew, it's great to finally have the chunky house business of "Nothing More To Say" on vinyl, whilst "Eeehhh" is even more impressive, literally exploding with vivid, colourful melodies.

Review: House legend Fred P is on a roll, with this being the second of his latest releases to fly through our floodgates this week alone. This time, however, he leases his wax space out to two fresh-faced mates: Specter and Jose Rico, who occupy the B-side and nearly snatch his crown with the wonky dub-house stepper 'You Don't Believe'. P's own track 'Inspired By Dopeness' is a climactic and tense house opus, blending funky and international influences into its mix; but it's really the night-and-day contrast between the two tracks here that make this release here on Yellow Jackets shine.
