Review: The second Abstract Cuts release is an EP split four ways, but with new, unconventional approaches to the dancefloor at the heart of each submission and all using vintage drum machines and samplers. The Robot Dance Connection's 'Powers Of Ten' (R2d2 live edit) kicks off side one, shiny high frequency polish played off against a gorgeously stubborn techno beat, before the slinkier and smoother 'Gold Saucer' by Brunzi offers an equally danceable but less angular counterpoint. Flip it over and Tomska's 'Lethal Overdose' (Touch dub 2022) offers rushing sonics, off kilter snare damage and four to the floor thump, before Emile's 'Jeu Froid' completes the set in grimy basement style.

Review: Fresh from releasing his "Sagittarii" album on Bear Funk, the ever-prolific Ilija Rudman is back on his own label Imogen with two stellar remixes from the mighty Ron Trent. First up is the vocal mix of the track, keeping Andre Espeut's passionate voice front and centre around a classy cascade of pattering rhythm and swirling deeper than deep keys. On the flip you get treated to the Imogen Soundsystem edit of Trent's instrumental, which finds the track charting a course for the stars in the most delicate and elegant of ways. Truly life affirming, soul-soaked stuff.

Collecting tracks from seven releases spanning from 2014 to 2021, Rubicon serves as the project's Greatest Hits (for now). Including tracks from the Cleveland-dedicated album 'Tour De Hog' as well as the sharp toothed 'Spares' and 'More Spares' the pithy 'Haul Ass' plus some cinematic favorites from 'DWB' and 'On The Lam'. Review: Having last delivered an album way back in 2014, Royksopp's return earlier this year with Profound Mysteries was naturally greeted with glee by fans of the esoteric, melody-loving Norwegian duo. This partner album has been framed by the pair as their loving tribute to the music that made them - the formative aural passions that framed their sonic outlook during the 1990s. So, amongst nods to icy, Eno-esque ambient and the moody brilliance of Depeche Mode, there are tons of riffs on early '90s UK dance music, including a handful of tracks featuring elements clearly inspired by such gems as Meat Beat Manifesto's 'Radio Babylon' and Adamski and Seal's 'Killer'. It's all impeccably executed of course, and while it's a bit more boisterous in places than some of their output, it still sounds like a peak Royksopp record.
